College Students ‘Breaking Up’ with Obama and Democrats
by Zach HowellYoung people hate big government policies. This may come as a shock, given that Obama won 66% of the 18-29 voting demographic, but as we will examine, recent polling supports my belief.
When Obama was campaigning in the general election, he talked as if he were a centrist. He promised to end political polarity, he promised tax cuts, he promised to clean up corruption, and he promised to be fiscally responsible. These were all desirable attributes in a candidate, and the power of those ideas paired with his “cool” factor helped him win the election.
Unfortunately, the President broke his campaign promises. His policies have been detrimental to all Americans, but none have been more adversely affected than my generation.
At a time when the Democrats have already added $4.71 trillion dollars to ‘stimulate the economy’, how is it that unemployment for young adults is hovering at 20%? Weren’t we supposed to be the benefactors of the Democratic agenda? Weren’t they supposed to be looking out for our generation’s best interests? Of course that’s what they said, but as the old adage goes, “judge me not on what I say, but on what I do.”
The Democrats will be held accountable for their failures this November. The fact that every child born today will owe more than $118,000 to the national debt alone is resonating with young people. College-aged students are standing up and speaking out for their futures, and taking proactive measures to ensure that there is a Republican resurgence this November.
The GOP gets it. After a decade of spending like liberals, we have seen the error in our ways. That is why fiscal issues are at the forefront of this election. In November the choice becomes clear: either you care about reckless spending or you don’t. College students in particular are pledging to vote for candidates who believe in conservative values and absolute fiscal discipline.
The CRNC has just launched www.ourtab.org, a comprehensive site that paints a picture to young people about what debt, deficits, and wasteful spending look like under the Obama Administration. Pair this with the fact that Obama’s approval margin has narrowed by 18 points in the eyes of 18-29 year olds, and things start to look good for conservatives.
Young voters were tired of some of Bush’s big government policies in 2008, yet they got bigger government policies from Obama. They have realized that the Democrats have put us on a unsustainable fiscal course, and this November they will make a difference in shaping our country’s future.

No jobs curtails clubbing life … Obama kaput. Only the young bought the crap about freebies being endless.
The Soviet Union fell on it's face with the cheap fax machine.
It is indeed refreshing to know that many from that age group now understand the Democrats' progressive ideology. These young folks were duped, know it and are taking steps to prevent the progressive agenda from destroying their futures.
P T L …my daughter has seen this change in her campus (having been a professional student for the past 10 years). From UBBER Liberal to Moderate to "Don't Care". Luckily, she has converted MANY, carries a gun and will officially be a Doctor at years end …and heavily in debt (student loans).
do not worry about the debt since 80% of all income tax comes from the top 5% of earners you will not have to pay the bill. However I think they will inflate the money which will hurt all the old folks on Social Security-either way the young will dodge the bullet
Great video here. It is simple, Tell the Truth.

Our parents warned us,I like it,our kids do listen to us,a good education begins AT HOME.Teach a child in the way the he should go,when they are older they will not depart from it.
"The GOP gets it. After a decade of spending like liberals, we have seen the error in our ways."
This has NOT been proven yet. I am willing to give them one more chance. But to use another quote from the article.
“judge me not on what I say, but on what I do.”

You know you really have to be at least 40 to realize what is going on.
Heck I voted for Jimmy Carter as my first vote. And ended up graduating and still no job at the end of his miserable term.
My son is 27 and just finished college with a degree in the Arts. Daughter is 25 and has a BS Degree and a decent job in Healthcare IT. I paid most of the way for both of them and they have worked and both have modest education loans. This home has always welcomed the young. In 2008 I could not break thru the Kool-Aid induced coma. Now I know very few who have not changed their focus. We know the Seniors are hacked off as they should be with the Medicare debacle. The Independant adults have shifted based on the economy and their paychecks. We are on a trajectory for smaller Government and ACCOUNTABILITY. THANK GOD and keep up the intensity!!!
I agree. As far as I'm concerned right now, some in the GOP are just saying whatever they feel they need to in order to gain or keep office, and once they stay or get in, they'll do whatever is in their own best interests. If it happens to also benefit their constituents, well, that's great- they'll make endless speeches about it and remind the voters how well they're being "looked after".
I don't trust the GOP any more than I trust the DNC, honestly. ACTA NON VERBA. Merchant Marines know it, and so should every so-called "representative".
No matter what happens after November…. KEEP THEM ALL ACCOUNTABLE!
Really what other options are there? Except, Tea Party candidates. After we rock the Washington establishment, WE THE PEOPLE WILL RECLAIM OUR RIGHTFUL ROLE. I believe this is just the beginning.
Viva La Tea Party
Bummer!
It's like over… you know… lol
Well I can attest to this video…got duped twice (thank god 04 didn't pan out…) went from moderate left out of college (09) to staunch conservative reading up on the likes of Friedman, De Sousa, and other authors that my goverment education teachers wouldnt even suggest. Couldn't find a job, so I'm working a 1099 in medical sales, too bad small practices don't want to buy anthing…thanks obama. However I can thank him because I'm putting my butt in law school to be a conservative voice and hope to one day be a voice to stop liberal intrusion and to stop the gross overstep of the 14th amendment's phony derrived rights…
Off topic: Urgent update.
Union-label Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has hatched a plan to ram the speech-killing "Disclose Act" through the Senate IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
This is an emergency, so please call and/or email your U.S. Senators IMMEDIATELY and insist they vote for free speech and against the "Disclose Act" (S. 3628).
Buy 'em books and send 'em to school and what do they do?
They eat the pages…… and Vote for Obama.
I blame them for the mess they are in, the mess we are all in.
Really! The young will dodge the bullet?? You must be a product of the public school system were 2 + 2 =10! So let me put it in simple terms so that you can understand! The debt is so large that even if you took all the money the top 5% earn, it still won't be enough to pay the debt!!! So guess who will also have to pay….go ahead think…before you answer.
Dude… Where's my job?
Derision and distrust is not hatred.
Your deck is all out of hate cards to play.
It's been said that if you're not a liberal before 30, you have no heart, and not a conservative after 30, you have no brain.
Leave it to Hussein and our Clown Car Congress to lower that threshold…considerably!
This improved political discernment bodes well for scholarship, too: conservative kids are going to apply themselves harder because they will not expect (or want!) handouts.
Not yet. But it is like a slow train wreck. I can't take my eyes away. LOL
Speaking of trains. I hope the Dimmocrats can see the light at the end of the tunnel, because it is the Tea Party Train coming at them.
LOL I can just hear the smacking and popping of the wad of gum in mouth, whilst they twist their hair as they say it.
Three of the four masterminds behind Obama's stimilus/job creations – GONE .. only one left .. Tax cheat Geithner !!!
Rahm leaving …
The rats can't even hagn around .. I guess Air Force One isn't all that Obama says it is … Slumlord Valerie will staick around though .. I think she is the top military advisor left
I think most have just lost interest or unhappy that they cannot find jobs, unless they took a paper shufflin job in DC.
So when it comes to mid term elections, most of the young liberals will be voting "not present"…but the young conservatives will be out in force.
Yeap….time for us to save the world…..yet again!
Everyone is in the same financial woes. College kids included.
Also – I guess that $50.00 ACORN gave those kids to vote for Obama didn't last long
…carries a gun and will officially be a Doctor at years end…
There are no doubt many lefty lurkers who just choked on their lunchtime mocha half-caff soy-mylk lattes after reading that.
My take? If she is put upon by one or more thugs with evil intent, it's time for a little "preventative medicine!"
I've been seeing it only a little. I have noticed the Obama bumper stickers on the cars have the corners of them torn, probably from trying to yank them off. A majority of college students are still a bit braindead though; most of the ones I talk to just think that conservatives and average citizens protesting are stupid because Stewart or Colbert said so. I hate my generation.
I think they just realised that they'll be the first generation to do worse than their parents…
Dude…you took the words right out of my mouth!
We do all the heavy lifting, and the Liberals will want to take all the credit, once again.
And they would except this Internet thing is killing them, the Liberals thought they had everything wrapped up with the MSM and all, but, no one really looks at the MSM any more.
What these Progressive Democrats have done is shameful and they must pay for it. Obama's campaign in 2008 depended on people not knowing him. It depended on the people seeing what he was great at and extrapolating that talent to other governing disciplines. America knows him now and it's good to see more of our youth waking up to this fact. There will no longer be any projection of his one talent to other areas.
Even more shameful is our so-called Media. They must pay dearly. They are already dying on the vine. The harvest is over now and it is time they are turned under so a new crop of truth-seeking reporters can be grown. Just the facts please, leave your political bias at your alma mater. Our future generation depends on it. Thanks for your very important work and well written article.
Yeah, a 'Death panel' of one……….
"do not worry about the debt…" ?? I have to respectfully disagree. One could confiscate ALL the money earned… 100% of "the top 5% of earners" wages and this would not make a dent in the 14 trillion dollar debt. That doesn't even address the $100 TRILLION dollars of unfunded liability we as a nation are going to have to come up with. The "young"… as you put it… will suffer enormously when (not if) the money is inflated to bring down the debt. I'm sure most of us will have serious problems when we are paying $10 for a loaf of bread or $15 for a gallon of milk. And that's not even considering what will happen when all of the "young" people get out of school with degrees yet no jobs will be available. Because… you know… when you tax the job makers out of existence… you are taxing JOBS out of existence as well.
Now if we could actually depend on your generation to vote we could return to the constitution, but I won't hold my breath.
He planning for all of US too work in the soup kitchens like the great Depression.
I'm amazed at how few denizens of Ohio's "Little Berkeley," Yellow Springs, sport 0b*ma bumperstickers on their four-wheeled fossil fuel-power environmental juggernauts. I mean, this is a town where the head shop delivers! (When they can find the address, man.)
I live in the super liberal Bay Area. I have many friends in the 'young' demographic (18-25) who voted for Obama but to my surprise have since turned a sharp corner. So, all hope for future generations is far from lost. But I will say, there are many in my generation who, when they find out the rights that are going to be taken away from them and the utter debt we're going to be left in, will be utterly pissed (many are completely clueless now). The key will be convincing them not to turn violent. I know I'm doing my part.
More like smoke the pages and binge drink.
I'm surprised the internet hasn't been shut down already and it still might be before the election.
I feel their pain.
I believe what you say is unfortunately true.
They say that breaking up is hard to do. Well, maybe not since 55% of ALL likely voters view bho as a Socialist, which we know is not true. BHO is a full-fledged, hardcore Marxist/Fascist/Progressive.
+Hanzo+
Nah …there is hope. I've 3 kids (19, 30 & 31). ALL 3 are conservative. My youngest knows 100% more of what is going on than his friends. BUT he disseminates and OUTS the Leftist Agenda and the RINO's …true, most of these critters don't care, don't know …but they hear. And they will awaken come 2011 should the Health Care Bill not be repealed in full …1/3 to 1/2 of their paychecks will be going to the Feds for ObamaCare.
We have not been as aggressive as socialists have been in recruiting and slowly shaping our childrens thoughts with their Radical Ideologies. They stole our childrens minds while WE paid the Taxes and Tuitions!
Now we see the results of that, and now the GOP parents are intervening earlier to show the difference between living in a "commune" like Cuba, and living under The Constitution, like U.S!
Keep emailing your kids good links from here!
Interesting math:
$4.71 trillion would employ 15 million people for $78,500 per year in salary and benefits for four years. So where did all the TARP, Stimulus, and other deficit spending go in the last two years?
Obviously, we are not smart enough to know the answer. It apparently went somewhere more efficient than the private sector.
Lazy Jack
say "no" to commie MLK. Wonder who he plagiarized that quote from.
We will continue to vote them out of office, every two years, until we have the representation we demand.
"At a time when the Democrats have already added $4.71 trillion dollars to ‘stimulate the economy’…"
Citation, please? This just sounds like a made up number.
This is why term limits are a horrible idea. Lots of lame ducks then.
Do the
CurlyKeynsian Shuffle!Amen…
Yeah like, he was my BFF and I guess TMI from the Net totally showed what a loser he really is.
Did I miss something? I read and re-read what he wrote and I still don't get it. I am not in the top 5% of earners ummm I am like at the lower end of middle class and I feel like I am toting the entire tax burden. I also paid for my daughters tuition and am paying for my son's now. Is there anyway that I can just skip the middle man, and get my share of money from the top 5% earners? That was a rhetorical question.
Why in the HELL didn't they research Obama before they voted for him on that little invention that this age group is savvy in…….THE INTERNET. It's time to stop running life on feel good emotions and have some good old fashioned discernment which requires using your brains!
We appreciate your intestinal fortitude in admitting that you voted for Jimmah……..;-) +Hanzo+
Racist are you?
I'm gonna have to steal that one.
………..Sounds like a catchy title for a new action movie, maybe starring Clint Eastwood, or Jet Li……….+Hanzo+
It must be a really wet slap to those who engage in magical thinking about voting for lefties who appear to mean well, and mouth all the trite platitudes, only to find that they are, almost to a man (or womyn), the worst sorts of political opportunists who have no solutions besides the more-equal redistribution of misery.
Here's a towel. Welcome to the light side of the force!
No no you all have it wrong…were supposed to be in herds cracking rocks and building roads! They are shovel ready!
Then Uhhhbama's portrait ought to appear on the face of the first-ever trillion-dollar note to remind Americans who's responsible for their ongoing misery. He's your hero, so you won't mind… right?
They didn't do the research because, like, the choice was obvious. I mean, that Nazi McLame was, like, old, and he eats live puppies!
Memo to young voters: Welcome to the real world of liberal lies and deception.
Maybe you could land a cushy job like czar of something or other. I hear bho's still looking to fill vacancies concerning his administrations shortcomings. Hell, I guess we'll all have jobs then!
+Hanzo+
Well said! I know many youth that voted for the one….saw very rapidly their error of their way!
Hope all is well with you!
You're welcome to it. I've got many more……..
You have me there. I believe that as well.
It does go back to TARP under Bush and the Dems had both the house and senate in 06. So $700 billion there, another $800+ billion stimulus, $900+ billion healthcare bill, any number of spending bills in the tens of billions. So, if you take every spending bill since 06, $4.71 trillion is a close number to what is actually spent by them.
Sorry VoiceoIdiot, its not a made up number. Sad that the only things Dems do is just spend, spend, spend with no results to show for it.
The folks hardest hit by Obama's job-killing Marxist policies are his voting base: Young people and minorities.
The older folks are on pensions and the wealthy can sit back and coast.
At some point even the dimmest bulbs among us will wake up and decide to restore America and save her from the Obammunists' decadent path of statist, redistributionist "social justice".
Let's take a course. We'll call it "Uhhhbamanomics 101." Every dollar figure you're about to see is the national debt attributable to every man, woman and child who was alive in the year cited. These sums are the a result of dividing fiscal-year-end "debt held by the public" – money the government has to pay back to someone besides itself – by the number of people living in the United States that year. The statistics came from the Bureau of the Public Debt and the Bureau of the Census.
A century ago, the national debt was $28 for every person then alive.
By 1950, it was $1,453. This was a meteoric increase, of course, yet most citizens considered it reasonable because this debt had helped to finance the New Deal and to save Western civilization during World War II.
After 30 more years went by, public debt had doubled, to $3,142 per person, thanks to the Cold War, the Great Society and the Vietnam War. A few politicians on both sides of the aisle were becoming increasingly concerned about the ballooning debt.
The public debt tripled again by 1990, to $9,696, as the United States won the Cold War. Over the following decade, growth in the national debt slowed thanks to the “peace dividend.” Even so, it still grew to $12,116 per person – a 25-percent rise – by the end of the century.
The debt became increasingly worrisome to citizens across the political spectrum during the tenure of George W. Bush as it doubled again, reaching $25,445 per person by 2009.
After one full year of the Uhhhbama administration and nearly four years of Blameocrat control of Congress, the per-person public debt is on track to hit $31,854 when fiscal year 2010 ends next week. This $6,409 increase is entirely the responsibility of the current president and congress. It's half the increase that occurred on Bush's eight-year watch – IN ONE YEAR.
At this rate of spending, the per-person debt will reach $51,801 at the end of Uhhhbama’s first term. In other words, every American born in 2013 will face an obligation the size of a small mortgage as soon as they draw their first breath.
Is it any wonder why the kids are alarmed?
He was al like.. OMG… lol
At his age …Clint is definitely a 'death panel' candidate. Although he has enough $$$ to beat the new EVIL system.
You do know deficit spending goes on the debt right? http://thenationaldebtcrisis.com/the-national-deb...
Here is national debt by president. Obama currently has NOT put $4 tril on the debt. Only 1.4 tril.
But Bush put $4.8 tril over his whole 8 years. Obama at his current rate will put $6.5 tril on the debt in his first term. At that rate, in 8 years Obama will put over $13 tril on the debt.
Since we see NO sign of Obama slowing spending, cutting to any real effect or even being fiscally responsible (even the CBO says Obamacare will cost a Tril more, not less), there's not confidence that the democrats will do anything to curb this spending other than to kick the can down the block.
The republican continuously submit budget cut bills that are shot down by the democrats.
Also this wiki page is pretty informative http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_debt_by_U.S...
Notice under full R & R house and senates we get the lowest increase of debt spending. Under full D&D house and senate we get the most spending. Under Clinton's second term he had the lowest debt spending with a majority R and R house and senate.
Also under Bush's second term debt spending went UP when democrats had sizable power.
Again given this trend there is no evidence to show democrats will reign in deficit spending NOR cut budgets. even a child can add up a constant rate.
The wealthy provide jobs and can afford to leave the US. Furthermore, it's ridiculous to demonize the John Galts because not everybody can afford a home in the suburbs.
Somebody on another topic mentioned Cisco and capital gains tax: President Medvedev promises Cisco a capital gains tax rate of zero; President Obama promises to retire the evil George Bush capital gains rate of 15% and increase it to 20% in 2011.
http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/07/no_ones_ca...
There is a reason democrats go for the youth vote. Kids have no worldly experience. Kids are self centered. Kids will do whatever is popular at the time. Being a political activist brings them into contact with more of the opposite (or same) sex. Kids don"t think about what their decisions will mean to their future. Wisdom comes with age. But not to worry a whole new group of credulous kids turn 18 every year. Should we go back to being 21 to vote?
And pay more to the government for that privilege to boot.
It's funny how living in your parents' basement with $40,000 of student loan debt and no job prospects make you re-evaluate what your poly sci teacher told you about the wonderful big gov't and the "evil" corporations which have the jobs they want.
"Evil corporations" kills me, especially when compared to the truly evil gov't.
They'll also be the first generation to hear their Grandparents brag about how good they had it when they were kids………
Heh.
*thinks of one to reminisce over with the grandkids* I drove a gas guzzling Buick 455 GS to school, up hill, both ways.
Of course Amoco 103 octane was under 30 cents a gallon in those days. Good thing since that animal got ≈8 MPG… if I behaved.
from the Charles Bronson schoold ofmedicine and justice?
We did have it pretty good, didn't we? But no iphones…
Wait, is that really a good thing?
I'll admit to buying gas at 11 cents a gallon during a gas war. The engine in my '59 Caddie was balanced and blueprinted and got 20 mpg on the highway…..if I behaved.
"Obama's campaign in 2008 depended on people not knowing him."
Too many people had never been exposed to a Chicago-style hustler before so they fell for Obama's con game. Hopefully they're now wise to his scam.
http://tinyurl.com/BigSpendr
They twusted their feewings.
You should see some of em. Morons think they're now gonna get healthcare for free under Obamacare. You should see the looks on their faces when you tell them they're going to have to pay for it! Then comes the realization that they were lied to and used, then the anger. Like I said, there's hope for the younger population, albeit relatively little.
"However I think they will inflate the money which will hurt all the old folks on Social Security-either way the young will dodge the bullet."
Here, let me try to explain this to you in language that you may understand. IF they "inflate the money", as you say, that iPhone that you just bought now costs $1,990 and the iTunes songs that you put on it cost $9.90. Only, IF you are lucky enough to have a job it only pays minimum wage, which stays at less than $10 (because it is not indexed to inflation). If you are out of a job, tough luck, because everyone that could have provided them has gone broke, because they could not raise prices quickly enough. So, there is going to be a short (as it relates to the age of the planet) rough time where there are a lot of unemployed, that can afford nothing (including food). Do you still think that "the young will dodge the bullet"??
I've managed to live without one…….
Give them time, there will be other factors besides age…….political affiliation, perhaps………
Good luck with that………..
LOL I think we should vote in the Little Rascals next !! That would make us at least some happy happy feewiinngs.
Speaking of McLame, I happened to catch his Rino daughter Meygan, who did an interview on Fox about her stupid book which talks about the Republican party needing more moderates. Anyway, Meygan talks just like they do in this video…..Like, like, like a valley girl from CA who was fur sure going to get all those young girlz to come to the Party even though all of us "Far righties" make them feel unwanted.
Hey Meygan, you can kiss my conservative patriotic American butt because my daughters will never emulate an air headed traitor like you or your loser father………GOT THAT! (I think she might post on here as "thelastbesthope")
I can remember 22 cents a gallon gas war prices but that's the lowest I can recall.
A '59 Caddy! Mighty fine car. My dad had a '58 Coupe DeVille. 365 cubic inches, leather interior, auto dimming headlights, a wonderbar radio, and on and on. Lots of spiffy stuff for back in the day. I loved that caddy. I'd love to find a decent '58 to restore.
The General could build a nice automobile in those days.
My dad gave me that car when I came home from 'Nam. Yes, it really was a sweet ride. Later, I got a '69 AMX, and ran the damn wheels off of it……..
Thank you and all will be wonderful once we get our country and economy on the right track.
I have a P220 Compact! They are AWESOME!!! I have the all Stainless Version. It's called the P220C3-45-SSS!
You should be able too get the Regular P220 Compact from any Gun Shop… they usually can order you one…
We will have to hold the GOP's feet to the fire and loudly support the fiscal pain that must come in order to get us back in the black and provide a prosperous future for our kids. I think an across the board cut is the only way to avoid the whining and protesting. Public sector unions must be curtailed. No one working for the government, paid by taxpayers, should belong to a union which calls strikes and holds services hostage to greed. Then, some major tax cuts to encourage manufacturing jobs. Oil drilling and clean coal should be given an open door to develop our own resources in a safe way. The EPA and the FCC and FTA need a very long vacation. SEIU should become letters we never see again….too violent. It's time to turn away from government and take care of ourselves. Only then will our kids be able to create a real life.
I wanted the beavertail model for my nestmate, thinking that it would prevent slidebite with a two-handed grip. I've got my FFdealer looking, but may just have to settle for the regular one. Does the compact hold the full size mags?
Go with the truth, it's the best option. Just mark me down as young and dumb.
Oh my, Pelosi's district.
You poor dear. *pats*
Bring up Cloward and Piven, the debt, etc. and you either get "That was all Bush" or a glazed, absent stare. This is from someone attending college in Lancaster, which is basically the Pennsylvanian equivalent of what liberals know and loathe as "the Bible Belt." I can only imagine the obliviousness in the Bay area.
