VP Biden Says Obama Plans to ‘Control Insurance Companies’

Tapper asked VP Biden what he’d been hearing from the members of the Democrat Congress that are vulnerable over this healthcare debate and Biden’s reply let slip the administrations ultimate goal; full government control of the insurance industry. (My bold)
BIDEN: Well, I yes. Some of them I say they say, well, Joe, look, man, I mean, you know, you guys haven’t massaged this very well. And, you know, this thing has gone on so long, I don’t know. And my response is, hey, man, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I’m telling you, you know, pre-existing, they’re going to be covered. You know we’re going to control the insurance companies.
Granted Joe Biden is the court jester of the Obama Administration. He is a fool of the highest order. It would be easy to dismisshis words. However, the idea that Obama wants to take full federal control of the insurance industry fits quite nicely with Obama’s claims as a candidate — that he was for a single payer plan all along.
Barack Obama fully intends to destroy the health insurance industry and replace it with a socialist nationalized healthcare program.
Call your representatives in Congress and tell them to vote “no” on this un-American legislation.

I appreciate the sentiment of your comment but strongly object to the government TELLING private companies how much profit they can make. It is precisely the govt. intervention into health care that causes the prices to rise. They will also be the reason the quality will decline. Get the govt. out of the health care business, get congress to remove the anti-trust provisions and let free market forces prevail. In every case and in every part of our economy, it is comeptition that keeps prices in check.
My theory is that Obama and Biden just found running the banks and the car industry boring. Maybe they will find running the insurance companies ( and the medical schools … and the hospitals … and the drug companies … ) more stimulating!

When Obama decided to act as a third term of Bush and increase troops twice to Afghanastan and continue the quagmire in Iraq (we will never leave by the way, all "non-combat" troops will stay, see S. Korea), and continue Bush's TARP bailouts, he raised taxes, they just have not been collected yet.

I will give you another pro tip, you can raise taxes on the middle class indirectly by raising taxes in other areas.
Bottom line, you can borrow and spend and defer the tax, but you have not reduced the overall taxes.
This is only accomplished by reducing spending, and of course Obama deficits show this is not the case.

While we agree on lots of things, and disagree on a few, I think the intent of this article isn't to convince conservatives/libertarians that Govt. wants control of healthcare. We already know this and we have known it for about a year now. I think the intent is to give some proof to indepenents that this is truly the course of action the Govt. plans to take, and they probably won't stop with healthcare. It's truly a complicated problem that I believe will never be solved by Govt. Yes, we need some common sense regulation, but this is truly an objective vs. subjective fight.
It's funny that Obama actually tried to milk the cigarette tax again. He finally killed the goose.

I wish the process of electing officals was more like a job interview instead of a popularity contest. Most of those people would not be there.
The good ones that have savings/money will retire. The others will do what it takes to pay bills. I'm guessing we end up with more, young doctors that simply lack experience. I'd bet they'd also consider nationalizing all medical schools to attract new doctors that believe in the progressive system. We'll have decent health care for basics and a lack of any specialists (so if you get something bad or weird, it will suck). I sure hope it doesn't pass, or that it's later repealed.

The single biggest reason for high insurance premiums is due to cost shifting from low Medicare and Medicaid payments. In other words, governmental plans are responsible in large part for high private insurance premiums. Doctors and hospitals have to charge private insurers more to compensate for low government payment because the government dictates what they will pay, and it is below market rates.

A new twist in the Air Force's 10-year effort to build an aerial refueling tanker may bring a bid from a Russian state-owned aerospace company for the $35 billion tanker contract, according to the company's U.S. attorney.
The company, United Aircraft Corporation will create a joint venture between a still to be announced U.S. contract company and UAC-America, according to John C. Kirkland, a Los Angeles, California-based lawyer representing UAC. Kirkland would not identify the American partner.
"The Russians spoke with Hillary Clinton today about it," Kirkland said.
While no mention was made of the tanker bid by either Secretary of State Clinton or Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin when they met Friday, Putin did urge greater access for Russian companies in the U.S. market.
"As far as our economic cooperation is concerned, certainly our major companies are very much interested in such a cooperation and they're expecting us to support them," Putin said to Clinton. "A message should be sent that they are welcome both in the economy of the United States and of Russia."
"We would very much like to get into specifics about how to remove barriers and open opportunities," replied Clinton.
The Russian-American joint venture would be based in Los Angeles, Kirkland said, but he said the aircraft could be built anywhere in the country.
Kirkland said the aircraft the company would put forward is based on the Russian Ilyushin Il-96, a four-engine commercial airliner.
Also on Friday, European aircraft maker EADS said it remains interested in bidding the tanker contract despite its U.S. partner, Northrop-Grumman, dropping out of the competition earlier this month.
"Yesterday the U.S. Department of Defense indicated it would welcome a proposal from EADS North America as prime contractor for the KC-X tanker competition," EADS said Friday.
"This is a significant development. EADS is assessing this new situation to determine if the company can feasibly submit a responsive proposal to the department's request for proposal," the company said.
Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said the Department of Defense has received a request by EADS to extend the time to submit a proposal by 90 days.
"The department is considering it," Whitman said.
Until Friday's announcement, Boeing was the only company to bid on the contract.
Northrop and European partner EADS, the parent company of Airbus, originally won the contract in February 2008, but a protest by Boeing reversed that decision, forcing the Air Force to change the requirements for the plane. Northrop dropped its bid on March 8.

Insurance companies are businesses. To survive they need to make a profit. So how is being forced to cover pre-existing conditions going to work. Either those with pre-existing conditions are going to have to pay very high premiums depending on their condition or the cost of covering people with pre-existing will be have to spread so that the healthy are subsidizing the unhealthy. Either that or insurance companies will go out of business. To me forcing insurance companies to cover people with pre-existing conditions is like allowing home owners to take out home insurance and claim on it AFTER their home burns down. No business or industry could survive under those conditions.

- Mandate what their policies will cover.
