What Lesson Did Brown Teach Obama/Democrats? Apparently Pass Bad Stuff Faster
by Warner Todd HustonOnce Scott Brown took away the Democrat majority in the Senate by becoming the Republican’s 41st vote based in large part on the fact that Massachusetts voters were unhappy with Obamacare, one would think that President Obama and the Democrat Party would learn a vital lesson. A look at a dozen or so stories across the media over the last few days shows that the Democrats have indeed learned a lesson from Scott Brown’s victory. But is it the right lesson?

Did they learn that they’d better slow down their freight train of extremely left leaning policies? Did they learn that with 58% of Americans standing in opposition to Obamcare they’d better reassess their direction? Have they learned from an entire year of raucous healthcare townhalls, multiple loses at the polls, and tea party protests that brought out over a million people that they might be agitating the American people?
Nope.
Looks like the lesson they’ve learned is that they have to pass their bad policies faster before they really lose power in the November midterm elections. It seems that a certain self-righteous arrogance is what we are seeing from Democrats instead of an acknowledgment that the voters have chastised them in Virginia, New Jersey, and now blue, blue Massachusetts. Democrats have not learned that they’d better listen to the voters but instead have decided that they better move on their agenda even faster. It’s hubris that they’ve assumed not a mien of humbleness.
For his part the president has boldly claimed that even as more Americans every day are turning against his ideas he’d rather make of himself a “really good one-term president” and pass his cherished policies than win a second term. In yet another TV interview Obama told ABC’s Diane Sawyer that he doesn’t care if he pays a political price at the hands of an unhappy electorate.
The president has previously admitted the convoluted process of cobbling together the huge bill had alarmed voters, but said today he will not back off of tackling large issues despite the political jeopardy involved.
So it’s Katie bar the door, and full steam ahead as far as this president is concerned — voters be damned.
The president isn’t the only one. One-time Senate Majority leader Tom Daschle — a man who himself was thrown out of office by his constituents — told reporters about the lesson Brown taught him. Oh, it isn’t to slow down and think harder, no-siree. As far as Daschle is concerned the Dems need to hurry up and “do the right thing” and pass the hard bills that Americans are against. That, to Daschle, is “political courage.” Some may call it political suicide, others extreme arrogance, but, well, you know.
Another voice of the Democrat establishment is campaign wunderkind David Plouffe who the president has called back to Washington to help the donkies retake victory at the polls in 2010. Did Plouffe advise his patrons to step back and reevaluate their position? Uh, nope. Plouffe immediately began by saying that the Democrats should hurry up and pass Obamacare.
In a recent mass emailing, for instance, Plouffe told supporters that they have to push even harder on every policy that has caused the voters to rise in anger against them.
The President’s resolve has never been stronger to keep fighting for health insurance reform, for lasting job creation, and to rein in the big banks and fight the undue influence of lobbyists. Wednesday’s speech will be a pivotal moment for us all to get on the same page and continue the fight together.
Lesson learned? Hardly.
These few aren’t the only ones. The Associated Press is reporting that Congressional Democrats are gathering to unite on a health care strategy and that strategy is to pass through the House of Representatives the same Senate bill that drove Massachusetts voters to vote against their Democrat candidate for Senate.
Lesson learned: Hubris, not humbleness.
So what are the Democrat’s rewards thus far? Check out these headlines:
Poll: Americans glad Dems lost supermajority
CNN Poll: 3 of 4 Americans say much of stimulus money wasted
Republicans Pull Ahead on Generic Ballot
If these headlines are any indication the voters really are trying to teach the Democrats a lesson. But if I can paraphrase a saying, Is Demmie learning?

Several times now, Obama has alluded to himself being a one term President. Is he setting up his own standing down?
The Progressives/Socialists do not have a clue what the American people want. They hane no clue on how to run a country other than running it into the ground.
I must also say, there is no lesson you can teach them, they know it all already, just ask them.
He knows there is no way in hell that he will get reelected.
"The president has previously admitted the convoluted process of cobbling together the huge bill had alarmed voters, but said today he will not back off of tackling large issues despite the political jeopardy involved"….
What he really meant was…"despite what the American people want"!!!! He doesn't have a clue as 'how to create jobs'…that's not his job description anyway!!!
Obama is a Democrat in its purest form—force liberal/Leftist experiments onto an unwilling public which must pay for them and abide by their mandates, deny all the bad fallout, and continue to push Leftward while condemning anyone who has the 'gall' to question their actions and motivations.
Doesn't this illustrate how in touch a community organizer is? He doesn't have a clue, all he has is his idealogy, so he repeats it over and over, hoping somebody will like it.
I for one am not surprised by this. So now what ? They aren't going to listen and NO ONE is suppoesed to mention any type of Violence to get the people that are voted into office to do what the voters say, SO NOW WHAT ? Anyone ? These creatons DO NOT work for nor are they concerned about us in the least, they work for SOROS AND THE PROGRESSIVES.
Sometimes, I think he never thought he would actually win the first time. I remember the change in his demeanor after he left his first one on one meeting with Bush.
I could see this situation playing out.
If Nancy and Harry employ the nuclear option and ram this through, Obama could veto it. Then he plays the Hero.
When are these politicians going to understand that the long played game is over and that the American people have had enough of it?
Maybe when We the People remove them and replace them with Statesmen?
We knew this was what they were going to do. BO said he would rather be a one term President & pass his agenda then be a two term President with lame duck record on policy. That says it all. He will get what he wants done to reshape America in the progressive/socialist image whether we march to the Capital, call, write, blog, sign petitions or do whatever we can. BO is determined to show us that our votes won't count in November because the damage will have been done. The fight is only in it's first year & we have 3 yrs. to go. Even winning Congress back will not stop this train of Hitler youth trying to force this way of life we don't want on us.
I disagree a little bit Gary. I think they know, it is just that they don't care. Like you said – they know better.
The swamp is full of a ship of fools and the ship is sinking. Our goal is to keep the wake from drowning the entire country. Come on November!
I have to say it goes much further than that. It is the built upon model Chavez laid out for his grand plan of a socialist regime. The keys to control have already been into motion by this government so we can't back down.
It's a trick.
Rome’s Spectacular Rise and Inflationary Fall….The god emperors of Rome constructed their empire by implementing hard money. The hard money was paid out to its armies which in turn conquered most of the ancient world. Jack Weatherford explains in his book, The History of Money, “Rome’s fame and glory came from the military and from conquest, and their riches, too, derived much more from the achievements of the army than from those of the merchants.” As long as Rome’s legions conquered new lands, the empire thrived. But each new occupation required ever greater resources. In a few years, Rome’s spending doubled from 25 million denarri (a Roman silver coin) to 50 million. By 63 B.C., the budget grew to 75 million denarri, and spending was beginning to spin out of control. Vast strategic ambitions and social expenditures were beginning to mount. When Augustus siezed the throne Rome was at its apex, spending rose to an astonishing 250 million denarri or 10 times what it had been 60 years earlier. By the time the Empire had conquered Europe the cost of its army vastly exceeded the treasure it was repatriating. Yet spending continued to climb even as revenues declined. Sound familiar?
It is more of a world agenda. Many countries in the world have begun to pressure the US into accepting their leftist agenda & they are @ the right time in history with the out of balance power in the US power structure. It's easy to ignore us when he has friends in high places. He says he is worried about main street when all I see is the man worried about his image. When you have all these College students for years telling him how great he is, it's kind of hard for him to take the negative feedback he is getting. He doesn't understand we are already in the real world & see his policies as a detriment to our society.
" The President’s resolve has never been stronger to keep fighting for health insurance reform, for lasting job creation, and to rein in the big banks and fight the undue influence of lobbyists. Wednesday’s speech will be a pivotal moment for us all to get on the same page and continue the fight together. "
I read that statement 3 times slowly and each time it made even less sense. What ? ? ?
Obama and the Democrats know exactly what the American people want from this government, that's why he'll make a speech about how he will "create jobs" while he continues to trash the economy on the way to making this country look like Venezuela and himself look like Chavez. Obama is a marxist thru and thru and will never change his stripes, ever! Do not believe this traitor, no matter what he says. Rather, just watch what he does, or attempts to do, as he continues his quest to "fundamentally transform America" from a free market Republic to a marxist dictatorship. His problem is that we're on to him and it ain't gonna' be pretty if he continues down this path. God bless America.
It took Rome thousands of years to self destruct, America is doing it at record speed.
I hope O'Keefe cuts the wires to Obama's teleprompter on Wednesday night. I'm sure we'd all be impressed with Obama's ad-lib.
This administration has made the American people realize just how far out of touch our representatives really are (both parties). They continually and arrogantly ignore us while pursuing thier own personal agendas. History shows that when angered or motivated, the American people can accomplish great things. It's time to do some great things and get these career politicians out of Washington for good!!
Lessons learned?
Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!
I agree…watch your wallet as they point to the stars!
Sadly he is akin to a about a 2 year old – it's all me me me. Is it ego, stunted emotional growth, narcissism or just plain dense? I have no clue but I do see someone who has proven yet again, he doesn't stand for America, he sure doesn't stand for me, it's all about him – now that is scary. All the loons that miss this obvious truth are what cause me concern. Show me any relationship that thrives where on balance, only one sides needs are being met. I just can't wrap my brain around this faulty thinking.
The Obama already has his place in history secure…he'll just keep loving up the perks, jet-setting around the world, playing super rich guy, hobnobbing with the leftists around the planet, giving out lip-service of "Help" now with the "Hope and Change"…
If it is a Dimocrat, from local, state, or national, it has to be put out of office, whether they participated in this debacle or not: "Dans ce pay-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres."
Exactly…
noooo… the have a clue… they simply don't CARE what the American people want. Please remember that they consider themselves to be the "intellectual elite" and the rest of us are nothing more than taxable entities.
The Fabian Socialists this administration is laden with could careless about learning anything from anybody. Their agenda is set in stone, and they shall not waiver until they have accomplished their "fundamental changing" of this country…
But, if they did learn anything at all…It's that they need to get ACORN rolling again, and find another way to steal elections…
I really like that. Is that your own phrase? Great!
Oh my gosh, it's a Roman Ponzi scheme!
Obama is not a Democrat and he certainly is not a Republican, He is a socialist
I know that a lot of Democrats are so close to the far left such that they can see Russia from their back porch.
Thus, they are, to a certain extent, open to the idea that our American way of life needs a huge transformation. But I pray God that deep down inside they are still American.
Obama, on the other hand, is marching to a completely different drum.
This is the only way one can rationalize his "…. I would rather be a good one term…."
His definition of what is "GOOD" (for America) is somehow explains why people in Massachusetts voted the way they did.
The unbearable one commented recently that he has been "neglecting talking TO the American about what their priorities are." He seems to have forgotten that God gave us 2 ears and 1 mouth, so we should be listening two times as much as we speak. That's all he does is speak, and doesn't listen. You would think with those huge wind panels on the side of his head he would be able to hear more. I'm sure it is his elitist ego that has himself and his cronies convinced they know what Americans want more than the people. Tonights speech will be all about the problems he adopted when he took office, how he singlehandedly saved the economy, and how he deserves the time and respect to waste more of the taxpayers money….that we don't have. IDIOT!!
Jim, calm down, first things first,
A) the 2010 elections
B) the 2012 elections
C) retake the American classrooms
It's a shame that we have a president that don't know about the country, and it to run it. But he only knows the way lawyers know how they work, talk, ect. You are not in your home town. You are in the white house. It a whole different story.. And he's talking about how he's doing a good job, He really needs a wake up call. This is not his world. It's the real world. People are tring to speak up going to the white house,Kill the bill, election came up people speak out, went to town halls…No sending, small government,no globle warning, no higher taxes, if Florida gets this ballot train the taxes are going up. Did the people think about that. The president is really working to get the health care plan through in pieces..So, watch out….Alot of people who are out of work and he is going to try everything under his power to this pass…Or he will try something to take control. And the people will raise or follow. Be careful…
There is more than "political jeopardy" at stake here ; our Founding Fathers revolted for much less than this! Why they would try to foist a Marxist agenda on a heavily armed populace is beyond me. Hopefully, they are smart enough, just enough, to figure out this will not stand. I do not think they are.
Ah! there was a time when I would argue with you on your sentiments about being a Democrat.
When this arrogance took over the party of my blue collar roots, I really can not pin point.
Hopefully someday, we will again have a two party political system where issues are discussed within one singular ideology.
Perhaps they don't need our vote.
Did you mean Dhimmicrat, perhaps?
As to your quote, this is the meaning of "sacrifice" you opine they embrace and employ? If so, I would agree.
As in Africa: One man one vote -one time.
For those who think that Obama and company don't know what they're doing,
get real! They know exactly what they're doing. As has been in the news lately, over 80 of our fine and upstanding congresscritters, and senators are "in the bag" with at least the Socialist Party. Now what would a bunch of Socialists do, if they had strong influence in this, or any other country? Exactly! Start by pushing through a citizen of a foreign country, as president, and the rest is easy, sort of. People, stop and look around you. Look at his playmates. Look at the leaders of the Democrat party. Look at the books he reads, "After America". Some title, huh? Don't ever say "they don't know what they're doing". They Know!!
Yeah, they know. They are hoping you have been drained of any fighting spirit so that you will let them push you around, like the bully in the schoolyard will. As with the bully, they are outnumbered. Their days are numbered.
"Once Scott Brown took away the Democrat majority in the Senate by becoming the Republican’s 41st vote"
The Democrats still have a majority in the Senate. They only lost their "super" majority – which apparently is required to overrule filibustering by the minority party.
"For his part the president has boldly claimed that even as more Americans every day are turning against his ideas he’d rather make of himself a “really good one-term president” and pass his cherished policies than win a second term"
That is actually is a sign of leadership. In this case, not good leadership. But leadership just the same. You can't accuse him of putting his finger in the wind (as did President Clinton) to determine what's leading the polls today.
If we're fantasizing about teleprompter sabotage, I'd rather see someone replace the middle third of the speech with "Green Eggs and Ham".
Incurable narcissism, sprinkled with a health dose of always getting his way, topped with never having to face real criticism.
He was coddled and groomed in the Chicago political cesspool where people always took care of him and told him what to do and how to vote.

Worst President Ever.
Does anything they say make sense?

And, what about the "riots" that would occur in all our streets?
It is like the movie STARMAN starring Jeff Bridges. The alien learns from his earthling friend what the lights mean of a traffic light. Green means" go", Red means "stop" and Yellow means "go faster". But in the OBAMA-MAN movie elected means " go fast" and Scott Brown's election means "Go Very Very Fast"
I think Barney is up for reelection in 2010 and Kerry in 2012. MA should do us all a favor and get rid of both of them.
Obama is a Democrat in its purest form—force liberal/Leftist experiments onto an unwilling public which must pay for them and abide by their mandates, deny all the bad fallout, and continue to push Leftward while condemning anyone who has the 'gall' to question their actions and motivations.
Hello, if obama just approved a bill to spend all our money over the next 3 years; how does it get stopped? Where did he get that power?
Wake me when he starts talking suicide.
good, let them continue to be intentionally obtuse! More for the taking later on…now, when is John Kerry up for re-election?
I would be happy to assist in the outing of Barney Frank from his nice comfortable senate seat but he is in a different district. Can't wait to see whose campaign I will be donating to to get rid of Barney..Kerry, I can just vote against him!
Could you just imagine that…!
The Dims went apoplectic when Brown was elected…they just might completely seize and die if that happened…
I wouldn't allow them to hold the reins of an electric powered horse ride outside a grocery store, either…
Damn the Teabaggers, full spend ahead!" Admiral FairlyGutless
I hope that the American people have learned an important lesson too:
NEVER ALLOW DEMOCRATS TO HOLD THE REINS OF POWER.
Why do you think they had to have all these things passed in the first 100 days. After that deadline it was the first year.
THEY KNEW THAT THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WOULD CATCH ON. And try to stop the madness. I think that they truely believed it would last until the midterms though.
Makes the point about Obama in 30 second video.

"As an American I am not so shocked that Obama was given the Nobel Peace Prize without any accomplishments to his name, but that America gave him the White House based on the same credentials."
–Newt Gingrich
People really don't like vote buying, bribery, voting on bills at night on the weekend, shoving things through, secrecy, trashing the consititution, economic collapse and the coddling of terrorists.____
So now a bill is making it's way thru the senate to ban fillibustering. The Dems will stop at nothing – not even changing the law – to get their socialist agenda passed.
Poster above is right. I've been saying for months that Breitbart should publish a list of all the Dems who are members of the Socialist Party and/or the Communist Party. It is alarming.
It's not the economy (although it should be). It's not healthcare legislation (in and of itself). "It's the Liberalism Stupid" It's expansive, expensive and oppressive government. It's intellectual arrogance.
[Thankfully] the Left doesn't view Scott Brown's victory in Massachusetts as a referendum on their agenda and policies. Rather, many are blaming the legacy of George W. Bush. Others believe that there is a morass of constrained thinkers in this country who were swayed by the likes of Rush Limbaugh or Tea Party activists. Some, such as Howard Dean, actually believe the Massachusetts result was a vote for their agenda…
"Yesterday, the problem was, the people wanted more. They wanted to send Washington a message. They want real change."
The one thing we can thank the Obama administration for is lifting up the skirt of the "progressive thinkers" in this country and exposing them for what they really are — Socialists. That unobstructed view has foreordained a major defeat for the Democrats in the 2010 Senate elections and may serve to extinguish the flame of far-left politics for the foreseeable future.
Where were these eloquent verbiages of discontent when bush was destroying our country for 8 years? The SILENCE was deafening. Let me count the ways…9/11 ATTACK on American soil—UNFUNDED deceitful war—–UNFUNDED tax breaks for the obscene rich–BILLIONS added to our deficit (when a SURPLUS was inherited) Disregarded health care issues, Katrina needs and breaks for the middle class (too busy clearing brush)– War monger and profiteer Cheney running the country–Wall St collapses resulting in a recession and near depression. Obama inherited this debacle from this moronic, inept, neanderthal president. We the people have and will continue to suffer because of the derelictions of this man for eons. I predict history will bestow on him the dubious honor of the top five worst presidents.

Also, people don't think when they are going to get the ballot train in Florida, there going to get taxes and also, where is this going (will people have to move?? And where is the people going? Does the people think about that….The people are not working and can't keep there homes?????Boy, he was talking about this…..No,just how we are going to get this.Nobody, thought about this…..
And on what credentials did W win the WH all knowing and wise one??
Eagle – its not just a USA problem that voters have with politcians. Here in the UK, we have our own general elections coming up this year and whilst your new president has approached healthcare reforms with much gusto, it can only be a matter of time before the costs become unbearable and like our own Labour party, unelectable. Tough times face us all. Tough decisions are inevitable.
