Illinois’ Gov And Senator Think Terrorists Bring ‘Good-Paying Jobs’
by Warner Todd HustonOnce again we see how clueless Democrats like Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Senator Dick Durbin are on matters of national security. With Barack Obama’s decision to treat the terrorists at Guantanamo Bay as if they are common American criminals, as the president bestows constitutional rights upon them, and with his decision to spread these monsters out across the U.S.A, we see Quinn and Durbin idiotically asserting that terrorists equal “good paying jobs.”

These jobs might come from the sale to the federal government of the Thomson correctional facility in west central Illinois where Obama could send some 100 detainees in preparation of closing down the Guantanamo Bay, Cuba facilities. Obama is struggling to figure out what to do with these detainees after his hastily made, ill-informed decision last January to close down the terrorist detainment facility.
After the idea was announced both Quinn and Durbin found themselves all excited to welcome these monsters into their state and both imagined that the occasion means that Illinois gets jobs. Durbin is quoted in the Wall Street Journal as saying that this is a dramatic opportunity.
“This is an opportunity to dramatically reduce unemployment, create thousands of good-paying jobs and breathe new economic life into this part of downstate Illinois,” Mr. Durbin said. “We should not let the unsupported and misplaced fears of a few stand in the way of this historic economic boost to our region.”
And the Journal reported that Quinn was lobbying Obama for just such an “opportunity.
Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn said he had a brief discussion with President Barack Obama this month about using the facility. He also wrote a letter last Thursday to Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Mr. Holder, saying the federal government would be hard-pressed to find a more secure prison.
Quinn told reporters “This is an economic opportunity that comes once in a lifetime for the people of Illinois,” and thinks that Illinois will see 3,000 jobs if the terrorists get sent to his state.
Can we review what is going on here? Quinn and Durbin are willing to give terrorists constitutional rights, they are willing to bring terrorists among the families of their own constituents, and they are pretending that this will bring jobs.
First of all, what are these so-called jobs? Are they real jobs that contribute to the state’s and the country’s economy? No they are not. They are faux jobs born of the federal treasury, not jobs that create any new economic activity. All these so-called jobs will do is shuffle money from other parts of the country (in taxes) and shift them to these make-work jobs in a federalized prison project.
These are not legitimate jobs. They are federal largess.
But all that pales in comparison to the fact that these folks are falling all over themselves to give terrorist enemies all the rights of a natural born American. These politicians are prepared to bestow Constitutional rights on these murderous cretins and bring some of the most dangerous people in the world into our communities.
There is another aspect of this that is absurd enough to border on the surreal. One of the things that leftists held against the Guantanamo Bay facility is the expense of maintaining the facilities. Many Democrats and leftists said it was too expensive for the American people to continue paying for. Of course the Guantanamo Bay facility is one installation, right? Now comes Obama to spread these terrorists all across the country effectively making the costs to house them many times more expensive to house these murderers because now instead of one facility we’ll have multiple facilities to pay for!
After all this, who can deny that Democrats are not to be trusted where it concerns national security?

Just one more reason to kick Illinois out of the Union!
Excellent article!
"These are not legitimate jobs. They are federal largess."
That sums it up. Sums up the modus operandi of the Obama Administration. Payola for Predators, Obama delivers!
This headline should read: Murdered New Yorkers Good for Chicagoans
Terrorist do bring jobs to places.
Look at all the construction jobs the 9/11 hijackers brought to New York.

One more payback for the “Home Boys”
This isn’t even legal to try these men in a civilian court. Any statements made to interrogaters is not admissible. So what does the Prosecutor have to go on. If they keep their mouth shut there is no evidence to hold them or even continue to detain them now if we move them onto American soil. What is funny is that the lawmakers up there are exicted about it. I am surprised Obama didn’t just send them on down here to Texas to be deported with all the other illegals.
Although I was momentarily shocked by Durbin and Quinn here, I was in no way surprised by their craziness. This is routine Democratic (and often Republican) corruption visited upon the people of Illinois. But it never ceases to amaze me that although much of it comes out of Chicago, the voters downstate (and elsewhere) rarely rise up to vote against it, they just take it. Please, Sir, can I have another!
Another payback to the "Home Boys".
Not admissable. Exactly what Obie is aiming for. Once again looking after his primary "Home Boys".
They'd also say that terrorist brought construction jobs to New York.

Turbin Durbin is at it again.

If the terrorist trials are good because they bring jobs, then these politicians must really enjoy a successful terrorist attack. Look at all the jobs that are created when a terrorist attack succeeds. It creates work for the First Responders, work for the medical personnel to treat the wounded, funeral work to take care of the dead, construction work to rebuild the bombed out buildings. And of course you’ll need some new workers to replace the dead and injured employees. There’s probably more jobs there than the trials, I’m surprised those politicians don’t want to just let the terrorists keep on committing their attacks just to keep people employed. What an innovative solution to the unemployment crisis.

Of course, the One, the 'Mighty' Quinn and 'Big Dick' Durbin find ways to seize taxpayer dollars and make things worse for all of us. Illinois is in the midst of a huge financial crisis due to the ineptness and corruption in Springfield and Chicago. But instead of directing efforts at real reform and financial responsibility just prior to an election year, the Dems pull out their distraction tactics and say 'OOOHHH shiny new jobs! ,,, and it won't cost you anything'.
It will also be a security nightmare when these terrorists have thousands of their relatives and followers enter through the gates of O'Hare or Midway Airport so they may be able to legally visit them. Who will keep track of these security risks? The One's civilian security force? SEIU? ACORN?
the voters downstate (and elsewhere) rarely rise up to vote against it
They don't have the numbers to vote against Chicago…even without the votes of the dead.
One government agency selling a prison to another government agency to create jobs that the first government agency could not afford to staff. Wait until they start selling clinics and hospitals between themselves.
First, I can't reconcile the "employee to prisoner" ratio,
but secondly, all I see is the introduction of an "element" that will give reason for an escalated "police state". This is the same scenario I envisioned in Montana. It is extremely naive to think that an economic boon is going to be derived from harboring the wet works equivalent of anthrax in a community. With 3000 employees, I dare say there is room for MORE than Guantanamo graduates, and God help anyone that has ever been in contact with any of them. You will also be nonredeemable… a potential threat. No telling what they may have taught you in the dark…
Folks..we are LOOKING for reason to bury Posse Comtatus with this one.
What else would you expect from democratic dirtbags like Quinn and Durbin.Quinn's the governor who tried to force the families and primary care givers of the disabled in Illinois to join unions.Luckily the citizens voted that down which wouldn't have been possible had the democrats been able to pass cardcheck.
Illinois is a welfare drowning Durbin enabled blue state. The non taxpaying welfare sludge keep people like Durbin in office because they know that Durbin will always do what's bad for the state and that's to always vote on legislation that hoses the taxpayers.Bringing these terrorists to Illinois is a terrible, terrible idea.
The only "new job" we should have out of this is a needle jockey for the executions…one I would readily apply for…
These socialists in the new Administration, paired with the usual suspects in the Congress, have re-set the bars everywhere in the levels of graft, corruption, and protection buy-off…
I suggest we purchase the Gotti's and other OC people for muscle and hitmen against the Gitmo detainees and other terrorists…get more done against Islamofascism cheaper and quicker…
Better the Devil you can hire…than the one you elect…
If either of those two dumbazzes ever had a coherent thought it would be a miracle! illinois, you must be so proud of your leaders! I bet you can't wait to get all those cool jobs when the terrorists finally settle in your state, huh?
I wonder what the constiuents of Durbin and Quinn think. I kind of have a feeling they do not share the same excitement of these 2 Political Blunders. At least we know that Mayor Daley is not the Lone Idiot in Illinois!
Are they going to make sure that the terrorists get their Koran??? I say take THAT right away from them!!!!
Illinois, the Land of Stinkin. Terrorists? A perfect fit.
Notice they bring the only kind of good job Obama recognizes: Government Jobs.
For starters these homicidal dirt bags captured on the battlefield do not belong on American soil. We didn't bring captured Nazis or Viet Cong onto our soil for good reason. It would have been absurd. Guantanamo solved that problem. It made sense to everyone but a Constitutional, history and morally challenged libtard.
And, since when are correction officers' wages "good paying jobs'? They aren't.
More Government crap to me – so why was this prision built it if was never used ??? Sounds like more government waste to me….
More and more still sucking off my titt!!!!
People of Illinois, WAKE UP! You have TWO CLOWNS representing you. I say Durbin's interview. How PATHETIC to think that bringing terrorists on American soil to creat jobs is a once in a lifetime opportunity. All from the state that brought us Blago, Burres, Ross, Emmanuel, Axelrod, Jarret, OBUMMER! UNBELIEVABLE!
the devil could come to town and Durbin would take hm it it meant more gub-mint money….
That was too icky. You are right though, same mindset. In that train of thought, rapists and child molestors provide a need for psychiatrists and byextension, the drug industry. Murderers provide business opportunities to funeral homes and cemetary real estate. I am going to stop now, or I will puke.
This is hearsay from a caller in to a talk show: The man said he grew up in the town and said that the prison needed to be demolished and rebuilt due to construction and mold issues. More 'fine' building from the corrupt state of Illinois. I've looked a bit to see if there was anything written about the prison buildings specifically but haven't found anything. Anyone in North Illinois heard anything on this?
It wasn't Osama bin Laden (OBL) who came up with the idea of using airliners as ballistic missiles. The scheme had to be sold to him by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed (KSM).
Islamic terrorists fly jet airliner into one of the World Trade Center towers in New York on Sept. 11, 2001.
Photo: AP
Born in Pakistan, raised in Kuwait and educated as a mechanical engineer in America's South, the comparatively secular KSM became fixated on punishing Washington for its support of Israel, even as OBL was focused on expelling the infidels from Arabia.
On Friday, US Attorney-General Eric Holder announced that KSM, the brains behind the 9/11 plot, in US custody since March 2003, would be put on trial in Manhattan federal court along with his co-conspirators, Ramzi Binalshibh, Mustafa Ahmad al-Hawsawi, Ali Abd al-Aziz and Walid Bin Attash. All face the death penalty.
Holder insisted that the decision to forgo a military trial and place the case before a civilian jury sitting just blocks from Ground Zero was his decision alone; that President Barack Obama was informed after the fact because the president, himself a lawyer, did not want to intrude in the justice system.
BUT AREN'T the 9/11 attacks more a matter of national security than of criminal justice?
Holder's decision regrettably treats what the conspirators did as a major crime rather than an act of war.
Moreover, it provides KSM with the opportunity to turn the trial into an enormous "reality TV" extravaganza, in the words of New York Times columnist David Brooks.
It gives Islamist terrorists fresh incentives to target New York City.
It risks exposing in open court the methods US intelligence employs to combat Muslim extremists.
Finally, although Holder insinuated that federal prosecutors have ample admissible evidence against the plotters, an open, possibly televised trial, will divert attention from the conspiracy to the fact that KSM – a "ticking bomb" if ever there was one – was repeatedly tortured.
This will not play well on Al-Jazeera.
In 2008, the US Supreme Court ruled that alien terrorists were constitutionally sheltered by the same protections US citizens enjoy, because they were held at Guantanamo, an enclave in Cuba that is under US jurisdiction. Similarly, they will enjoy the same appellate protections as Americans.
Sen. Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vermont), chairman of the Judiciary Committee, said, "By trying them in our federal courts we demonstrate to the world that the most powerful nation on Earth also trusts its judicial system."
Yet does it not also reinforce a false and dangerous impression that the shock troops of global jihad are, at the end of the day, mere criminals as opposed to enemy combatants?
Indeed, in an interview with Jim Lehrer of PBS, Holder referred to the 9/11 attacks, which took over 3,000 American lives, as the "crime of the century" pledging, "This case will be treated as any other criminal case" and not be allowed to deteriorate into a "show trial."
But where will 12 New York-area jurors be found who are sufficiently detached from their environment to assess the evidence and render a judgment on the law to insure a fair trial? On the flip side, what if a jury, falling under the theatrical spell of KSM or his lawyers, repeats the stunning behavior of the 1995 OJ Simpson jurors and acquits?
It would have been preferable, say many Americans, for the defendants to have been put before a military commission that could have better protected both US national interests and the constitutional rights of the accused as defined by the Supreme Court.
As Brooks, the Times columnist, persuasively argued, 9/11 was not aimed exclusively at the victims but at the United States. The purpose was to terrorize the country and force a change in its policies. The attacks were carried out as propaganda and trying their perpetrators in open court affords them fresh propaganda opportunities that will be lapped up by susceptible satellite TV audiences around the world.
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed previously entered a guilty plea before a military tribunal, but now has reason to delay his martyrdom. He does not see himself as a bin Laden functionary, but as a major theoretician and consummate jihadi.
Holder's protestations about a "show trial" notwithstanding, the US Justice Department – with President Obama out of the loop – may have inadvertently handed KSM a world-class stage to rationalize 9/11. this was found in The Jerusalem post..The actical name is A matter of justice please read..And check into this
I guess that wee Dickie Durbin and Quinn have forgotten that Chicago ( the Sears Tower ) was part of the original terrorist plans for 9/11. It and a couple of other American landmarks were dropped, due to the fact that there weren't enough crazed Muslims who could fly a plan into a building, available that day.
If this idiotic plan goes through, you better believe that Chicago will become a "prime target"! There's nothing much downstate to blow up, so it makes sense for terrorists to hit Chicago; especially if they also plan to break out the jailed jihadists downstate.
Another "POOR JUDGEMENT" decision from a bunch that are not ready for prime time.
Holder has said they will not go free. Well, then why bother with this sham show trial? This is to put Bush/Cheney on trial to satisfy the far left, expose the CIA and its methods to our enemies and secure billions for IL.
After all, Obummer failed miserably in his bid to win the Olympics for his cronies in Chicago. His amateurish presentation cost them billions. He has to make up for that by sending 5 terrorists there and provide them with billions in stimulus money for a prison.
Can you wait till I get the hell outta here first? Illinois politics is driving me outta town. I think I need some Texas hospitality!
Why would anyone with a family want to be on this jury? How will they feel if any of the jury's family is killed once he names are run on Al-Jazeera? If you think that the "media" will protect the jury you are in for a sad dose of reality.
I personally would love to be on a jury that convicted KSM, but I would chose prison if given the option.
Only the government could create "THOUSANDS" of jobs to house 100 prisoners.
hey moe and curly…if any of those primo new jobs include burying 200+ islamo scum suckers head first in a cornfield…I'm all for it.
didya notice these terrorists need to come to illinois?…that's cause the whitehouse is maxed out.
Quinn and Durbin should have to be the correctional officers who, on a daily basis, will have to put up with these terrorists. Who knows, after a few short months these two clowns may decide waterboarding ain't so bad after all…..a pox on their house for bringing these terrorists on our soil….
They could use the prison to house prisoners from other states that do not have space and are releasing prisoners way before they are eligible for parole. But that wouldn't make the powers to be money which is the only reason I can see for putting them in IL.
The voters south of I-80 seem mainly concerned about how much taxpayer money they can draw down from north of I-80. DuPage County and suburban Cook serve as a pretty good counterweight to the City of Chicago in terms of votes. The downstaters swing it one way or the other.
If they have to be housed in Illinois, house them in Stateville and start a rumor that they're pedophiles.
