White House Celebrates: Health Care Spending Increases Because of Democrats’ Health Care Law
by House Committee on Ways and MeansToday, the White House spin machine attempted to use a Health Affairs report authored by the economists and actuaries from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to tout the supposed success of the Democrats’ health care law. The report once again cites that national health care expenditures will increase as a result of the law.
Recall that previously, the Obama Administration stated that slowing national health spending was the “single most important thing” we could do improve our nation’s finances. However, the chart below from the report shows national health care spending will increase drastically as a result of the Democrats’ health care law.
As our nation careens towards fiscal disaster, with the driving factor being health care costs, we find that we are much closer to the edge of the cliff. The Democrats’ law may well drive us over the edge.

Obamacare makes healthcare cost more?
Well, whodathunkit?
Personally, I no longer have faith in anything my Government says, or does.
a simple question begs to be asked:
Do they want to take us to the edge of the cliff to get universal heathcare?
Or do they want to use this as an excuse to drive us OVER the cliff so they can 'fundamentally change' the system?
What do YOU think?…
Let's solve the medical care problem. Give half of everyone who is unemployed a medical degree and declare them doctors. Give the other half Law Degrees and declare them lawyers. Those careers can't be all that difficult, after all Obama is a lawyer and he fixed health care.
See! problem solved, now where is my Nobel Prize for smart ideas?
Two weeks ago my 60 year old G.P. told me he is closing his practice because he can't afford the $350,000 to go to an electronic charting system that will now be mandated. He said several of his fellow doctors will retire also. This also leaves his staff unemployed. So I am not "keeping my doctor."
Dee,
I think we have already gone over the edge, into the darkened abyss, and have been in free-fall since CONgress passed the first TARP while Bush was still in office. It has greatly accelerated since Obama took office.
I do not know what lies at the bottom. It could be sand, or it could be jagged rocks, but I can guarantee one thing, the bottom is coming up fast, and there is going to be one helluva splat!
The sad part is you can almost count on the fact that these estimates are off by at least 50%, and maybe as much as several hundred percent. We went over the cliff when they passed healthcare…we just haven't hit bottom yet.
That is an excellent idea.
Then everyone who is a Lawyer, can sue everyone who is a doctor, and all that new found profit can be taxed at windfall profit rates. Just think how many trillions that will pump into Obamas sagging economy.
WOW!
You are an economic genius.
Yes.
But perhaps earlier.
See my thoughts below.
starve the beast, only claim what must be claimed, ask to be paid in cash, etcetera
If they told the public up front that this was their goal it never would have passed. The stupid part is that now that they are bragging about this increase the libs are to dumb to understand that the free healthcare they promised is going to cost us our way of life.
Wow just the perfect cut to help stay within the debt ceiling. Not only does healthcare cost more, they used your money to create this mess.
At this point, most of my time spent researching is what the end game looks like. Severe depression? Prolonged recession of a decade? Little House on the Prairie? The Road Warrior world of savages and a wasteland? Few people are discussing what their vision of the end game will be. I am preparing for the absolute worst.
If someone in Obamugabe's Cabinet saw this thread, I bet it would get serious discussion as a real policy. That's how uneducated I think our ruling class is.
I am prepared for the absolute worst.
I try not to think of it.
Tell me, what is your vision of the absolute worst?
0bama . Just doing what he does best which is to destroy.
Anything he touches turns to crap.
Exhibit 4 shown above is for the year 2014 only. The reason that they included a graph for this particular year is because that is when most of the benefits kick in and there is an expected spike in costs for that year.
Exhibit 3 in the report shows the comparative costs between the current and previous health care systems from 2009 and 2020. In that graph 2014 shows as a spike with all other years showing Obamacare costs below the pre-Affordable Care Act costs.
Of course the BIG sites would pull the Exhibit 4 graph out of the report and imply that it is representative because that is what they always do.
I keep switching from week to week. I'm not sure if you read Chris Martenson's web site, but he talks in depth about peak oil, peak water, peak food, essentially peak resources and how those are all becoming very scarce. He also addresses the economic future we face. It's all backed up by independent research and fairly depressing stuff, but it's still factual. The real question becomes the timing. Does the dollar collapse then the economy or do we have a massive oil shortage followed by economic collapse? Is this a controlled plane crash that we can guide to a limited extent? I'm unsure. When I look at history, Argentina's collapse had pockets of severe violence and desperation, but it wasn't global to the country, and they still "functioned" until they righted the ship (to some degree). Same was true for some eastern European nations (con'td below)
These radicals from the 70's learned a big lesson. They don’t have to burn down buildings, blow up government offices, and shut down universities in order to take over the system. Bill Ayers is a perfect example of a leftist radical who followed Antonio Gramsci’s model for revolutionary (communist) change. After building their coalition “they must enter into every civil, cultural and political activity in every nation, patiently leavening them all as thoroughly as yeast leavens bread.”
To change the culture, Gramsci argued, “would require a ‘long march through the institutions’—the arts, cinema, theater, schools, colleges, seminaries, newspapers, magazines, and the . . . [media].” And that’s what they’ve done.It was Saul Alinsky who wrote, “Do one of three things. One, go find a wailing wall and feel sorry for yourselves. Two, go psycho and start bombing—but this will only swing people to the right. Three, learn a lesson. Go home, organize, build power and at the next convention, you be the delegates.”Today, Ayers and many other former radicals are the system.
"Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company." George Washington
However, we are the world's economic and military power. We have a citizenry that is dependent on the gov't, uneducated, violent and without morals. I look at Katrina and see the collapse looking more like that than what happend in Japan (which would be ideal from a safety perspective). So in my mind, it will be New orleans post Katrina for a prolonged duration and nation wide. The people in the rural areas will be more spared while detroit will be even a bigger war zone than it already is. That's why I am trying to get land away from the gov;t dependents, form a "community" of like minded educated people with resources NOW so that when the storm hits, a collection of us are prepared and have each others backs.
Sorry to ramble. What is your vision of the absolute worst? Post apocolyptic? Great Depression 2? We are a far less civil society than we were in the 1930's. Much more violent, much less trusting or caring of others. I think people will act of their feral instincts. I would avoid LA, Memphis, Detroit, Chicago, NY, Atlanta etc.
The best indicator of the future is the past. If you believe health costs are going down you are a fool, all graphs and charts be damned.
I am not familiar with Chris Martenson.
When one looks at the largest, most recent collapse, it would have to be the old Soviet Union. They came through largely in a non-violent manner, but that was 20 years ago, and they had US dollars, and US aid to help them.
This could be much different.
As far as the Great Depression, we were still largely an agrarian society, and that helped ease the pain. This time it will be different.
Take the largest cities. There is a constant, steady stream of trucks hauling in 24/7 the essential items that people need to survive. Bread, milk, etc. Stop that supply chain, and within 24 hours, there are shortages and ensuing panic, at which time the barbaric hordes will start coming out into the country side, roving, in search of anything and everything.
It is not a pretty picture.
Of course, I might be wrong.
It could be like Katrina.
They could wait for the Government to send boats, and free cheese and butter.
In a perfect world, in the world of my youth, I would not be spending time talking about nonsense like this. I would be doing more important things, like teaching my grandsons how to tie the seven knots every boy must know, or teaching them how to ride horses.
Obama has touched even me, unfortunately.
Canuck, that was silly. So based upon your comment I bothered to LOOK at the report (easy, click on the link in the beginning of the article) and IMO it is worse than the article here represents. Your spike??? is IN ADDITION to not improving anything going out to 2020. Just pulling out Exhibit 4 is a courtesy to this report.
PS: you used a very key phrase.
"Feral instincts".
That is worst case.
That is real, and it is fact.
At "their" best, they are nothing more than partially housebroken animals.
Just wait until panic ensues.
Oh, and another thing Canuck, those "benefits kick in" ? See Holdmynose above…he WILL loose his Doctor. I know this is true because I am in Massachusetts, with the precursor to 2014 and I DID loose my Doctor already, my insurance cost have skyrocketed, and my ability to get "preventative" care, i.e. allergy shots, are no longer locally available to me. Not because I don't have health insurance coverage, I do, but because it now take me a full day, and a long drive, to go to the only facility left that provides this care and I do not know how much longer they will continue. Is your argument that this is better?
Yeah Obamacare is a disaster. So much extra crap was stuck in that it's nothing close to true UHC, it's nothing near Obama's original vision, and it's basically a big handout to insurance companies.
I was also sad when I heard Obama privately met with insurance companies to promise not to include the public option in it. As if we needed more proof we were becoming a plutocracy.
Gritty, show me one government program that has come it at or under projected costs. I won't hold my breath.
It is quite ironic that during the Obamacare town hall meetings two summers ago, Democrats ridiculed the idea that Obama would take away Grandma’s Medicare payments (or even pull the plug). Now, Obama is threatening seniors with their lives: “There may not be the money in the coffers” to send out August-2 Social Security checks. I keep going back and forth on this. The empty rhetoric and posturing. It's astounding really. The ability to inflict harm on a large chunk of humanity simultaneously. It's monstrous, really.
the production to consumption cycle in this country, regulated by bar codes, is Three Days…
That's how prepared 290 million Americans are. Another 6 or 7 million are fully independent with food stores and the ability to produce more. FEMA has been busy buying up hundreds of thousands of MRE's and other prepared meals.
Why?
If there is, say, an attack on the grid (likely) by 'unnamed sources' within 72 hours there will be widespread panic followed by looting, Within ten days of a massive power outtage Martial Law will be declared and Northern Command will take over all law enforcement.
In 90 days the United States would more closely resemble a cross between 'Mad Max', 'RoboCop' and Darfur. Tens of millions will starve, and the Bad Guys will release killer virus strains to cull the rest of the herd.
They will hide underground, wait for the coming Earth Changes and then come out in 3-5 years. How likely is this scenario?
We'll give it a one in five…
Is it too late to put my head between my legs, kiss my arse goodbye, and start praying?
Well d, I'm going to have to agree with CL on the free fall. It appears that some of the conspiracy theories are becoming a sort of self fulfilling prophecy or they were founded on more than theory.
I have believed for some time that the "resource based economic system" some have talked about is the goal of the elite. Unfortunately, I also believe the resource they refer to is human capital. A debt based economy can never last and I believe we are seeing the end. What comes next is again from CL, the landing. Hard or soft it will be relative. We can capitulate and expose our bellies while giving up on our Constitution thus making it a softer landing or we can stand firm and accept no part of denouncing our American Heritage thus making the landing much harder. The later will be hard for dissidents and patriots alike but IMO the patriots will prevail because they are willing to make the hard choices and sacrifices once again.
You mean you thought your government was going to create a solution that would actually help you? You made your bed now lie in it….and watch out for those stray rounds.
never TOO late.
Perhaps we can still take our country back from these people.
Time is growing short, though…
tough times call for tough decisions.
We shall see just what kind of stomach the American people have. They allowed Obama and his handlers the keys to the store, which they are raiding with no end in sight.
But we have triumphed over these people before- never quit is OUR mantra…
I was going to make the three day point as well. Perhaps I am more pessimistic than you all are, and I certainly hope that is the case. I have stocked up food, water, currency, guns, etc. Let's just hope none of it ever has to be used.
The book "The Patriot" covers this in a fiction scenario that will scare the socks off of you.
chrismartenson.com Go through his course. Look at how fragile our global resources are.
CL, I COMPLETLY agree with you about the time spent dealing with this garbage rather than productive rewarding things. I hate this sort of stuff but have to keep abreast to protect my family.
By the way, when I don't post for a week+, it's because I'm on vacation. I try to avoid reading this tsuff in my home free time because I don't want to read something that will put me in a foul mood. My family deserves better.
Agreed. I have thought often that the outcome of the 2008 election was for the better. In light of comments made by McCain since, I believe the road may have lead to the same place just a longer ride which in turn would have us still sleeping until it was too late.
We were hoodwinked by a media and press who chose for us. Awakened and determined we won't allow that to happen again.
I live in Canada. Canada's health care system sucks. For numerous reason. Enough said.
…for quite some time now…
As Obama, Reid and Pelosi successfully and correctly predicted, the "cost curve" is being bent downward.
What they left out, because they are too stupid to understand the laws of physics, economics, reality, etc., is the part as the curve continues to bend, it comes back around and extends rather extraordinarily straight up our taxpaying A$$e$!
Trouble is just what is the absolute worst? I've long been a fan of "End of the World" stories and movies, I'm envisioning something like The Postman, with Kevin Costner. I can see how we can block off our community, here in the Ozarks from the roving lunatic bands, but how we get food to stay alive is kinda beyond me, not much fertile ground in these hills…
I know what you are saying about faith, but I think that's the problem with this country. Too many have started placing their faith in the government instead of in God.
our resources are much stronger than Mr Martenson posits…
But what IS the problem is sustainability and the demands of increased production. The Powers That Be are inherently evil, and want to reduce world populations drastically.
This would be done by destroying both resources and the ability to exploit them…
That's the best hope, IMHO, the true looters, like after Katrina, will just not know what to do and sit down and scream bloody murder for someone to help them, lying down to die, essentially. It's the gang leaders that are the worst of my fears, they'll set themselves up as little generals and loot and destroy everything in sight.
Soon our free health care will be on par with Cuba's. So will our lifestyle.
It is just the beginning. Millions more on Medicaid, doctors refusing the low pay and not seeing medicaid/medicare patients, no plan at all in Obamacare to train a workforce to take the added work… it will be a nightmare, provided the economy doesn't collapse first…
McCain is a Progressive as well; he just differs in degree.
But they are all utopians, and beleive in telling others what to do, and THAT is problematic for all of us…
Why would anyone think a man who includes peole making $200,000 a year in a group he calls "millionaires and billionaires" would be bad at basic math? I don't know about you, but I'd have never seen that one coming. Although, there was that pesky "Michelle doesn't let him control the family checkbook because they'd be broke" thing that might have tipped me off…
Welcome to the group.
Welcome to Havanna North. Please leave your freedom and your cojones, along with your wallet and your first born child, at the counter before entering.
We got some rain this afternoon!
You apparently can't read. The comparison is between GROWTH RATES. Not costs. That being said your criticism is meaningless.
GunWalker.
OK, I will accept the Nobel Economic prize also, I need bookend anyway…
Say good night Gracie.
What was Obama's original vision?
"The Democrats’ law may well drive us over the edge."
Well, it has already driven me over the edge….
You are hilarious. And you were expecting Hope? Not with this puppet, or any other Marxist=Progressive, or NEOCON for that matter.
STOP SPENDING STUPID
BINGO!
Yeah, we all know just how great those UHC systems are working : http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-an...
"Hip replacements, cataract surgery and tonsil removal are among operations now being rationed in a bid to save the NHS money.
Two-thirds of health trusts in England are rationing treatments for "non-urgent" conditions as part of the drive to reduce costs in the NHS by £20bn over the next four years. One in three primary-care trusts (PCTs) has expanded the list of procedures it will restrict funding to in the past 12 months."
Never lose sight of the 'fundamentally transform this nation' theme. Therein lies the true nature of Mr. Obama and his agenda.
We need a Republican president AND a Republican Senate, and then we can completely repeal Obamacare in its entirety, and fire every single government employee that was hired as a result.
I have faith that they'll do exactly what I expect of them; which is to work contrary to the precepts of the founders. Precisely the reason citizenship is not a spectator sport.
just for your information: our private insurance for just one of us has gone up 80.00 in two years. Where do you and these idiots come up with how good this is?
AARP is is bed with the "O". I have dumped my participation with them and will go elsewhere. They were to stand up for the Seniors and they have not said squat about no cost of living increases! They are not gettting my business nor should they get any of yours!
Good content, I actually found this blog on Google. It has stories on it that need to be shared so the people can see what is truly going on. Thanks and keep on sharing.
