Politics: Democratic Stimulus Haul is Almost Double Republicans
by Veronique de RugyYesterday The Hill reported that Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that “keeping a Democratic majority in the House is ‘too important to the country,’” which is why “she had no intention of ceding control of the House in this fall’s elections, despite Republican optimism that they can win control of the chamber.” Appearing on PBS, Pelosi addressed potential Democratic losses due to Sunday’s health care vote, “I’ve said if passing this bill means I have to walk out of my office that night, it would be with the greatest pride.” However, she cautioned, “I haven’t any intention of losing the Democratic majority.”

Sure. Here is another reason Mrs. Pelosi might want to keep a democratic majority. That’s because, as it turns out, based on my new analysis of the Recovery.org data, Democratic districts are getting 1.8 times more money on average than Republican districts. Using Recovery.gov data, and cleaning it up seriously to be able to use it, we find that Republican districts are getting on average $260.6 million in stimulus awards while democratic districts are getting on average $471.5 million. The average is award per district is $385.9 million.
Interestingly, my data also confirms that the stimulus funds are not allocated based on unemployment rates or even variations in unemployment rates. So basically, if the administration believes that government spending can create jobs, the allocation of the funds doesn’t show it.

Let's run Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann in 2012! That's what we need to straighten this country out!
Speaking of bizarro…
http://www.seiu.org/2009/03/seiu-coalition-partne...
They are about to steal ALL of your investments…
Here is a link to the puppet masters behind this insane act and their who's who information..
http://www.epi.org/publications/entry/why_we_need...
Today's articles all seem to be reminding us that the democrat actions are corrupt and evil.
Translation:
It's a slow news day.
My guess Ms Piglosi….anger goes a lot further than money. Oh and about that money you are stealing from the American public to win the elections in the fall….we know what you are up to…
Entitlement is a manifestation of greed. Both sides are guilty of boondoggle!
Gov Palin said the Whitehouse and Congress needed to be cleaned up. This shows us.
On the other hand, unemployment and recession are much greater in the blue state areas. The Dems know how to choke growth even before Obama came along.
Not necessarily John, I thing they are trying to take a look at the work ahead and point out what is coming at us next, a "refocusing effort" if you will…
Gotta reward and grow the loyal PLANTATION POLITICAL DISTRICTS!!! Wholesale Restoration of Voting Rights for Felons, Ammnesty for Illegal Aliens… We've already got all the UNIONS and all the Gov't Workers we hired now. What OTHER VOTING BLOCK CAN WE BUY? I wonder if the Chinese want a vote when they start drilling here to collect their debt from the American Taxpayers I put into Indentured Servitude…
Quote from the BHO thought police daily since election 08
i know this is way off target, it's due to the latest headline, what are the odds that NK tries to start a war with SK right after hc passed? i think lil barry has come full circle in redefining the axis of evil.
Nice idea, plus chicks are incredible at multitasking. In addition you ever notice how they kind find stuff, like in closets – it's unbelievable. One huge bonus, they can pull the gender card. Lets go with it.
Of course, the only reason they want this so badly is due to the fact that their pensions are massively underfunded… They want to shift the buck to the Fed before they go underwater.
Yes! Michele Bachmann is my all time favorite congresswoman. She should take our once free country and give it back to it's freedom fighters! Bachmann 2012!!
OMG, I'm shocked!!!…realy SHOCKED!!!
Look at the "flawless timing" of this, HC overhaul first, then "financial system overhaul", followed by the news that SS will "go into the red" this year, an impending "immigration overhaul" and a country filled with frightened seniors unsure of their future…
This is a power play like no other in the entire history of man…
That's right California Patriot. It's a great idea all around. Plus, both Palin & Bachmann will sign the right-wing "loyalty oath"! And just think, for the first time in our country's history, we will have the first first man and the first second man!
I know, Missy. Just a weak attempt at humor. (My sense of humor has been suffering since last Sunday)
But from my personal perspective, I'm so aware of the work ahead and what's coming next that any "refocusing" effort for me is completely redundant.
Of course I welcome the articles for those who haven't had the same focus up till now.
Yes indeed! Let's elect Michele and get her to give our country back to George Washington, Thomas Paine, and Benjamin Franklin!
But what about the history of woman?
"we know what you are up to…"
And she doesn't care. For her, any criminal means are justified for the sake of her sociaIist ends.
She is quite PROUD of her criminality.
Funny, John Edwards uses a similar looking graph when paying child support.
It is implied…
Stimulus money is nothing more than a gigantic democrat slush fund. We need to stop the bleeding, stop the spending.
Even if Gibbs or Axelrod (anon) reads this, the techniques to destroy these good people are not going to work this time around.
I also saw an article about how we are going to share our un-manned air technology with our allies. For the first time in my life I had to think who those allies were and who they might be now!
I could go for that. I'm liking Michelle Bachmann more and more each day. Of course you can't get any more conservative than Sarah Palin but I'm a bit skeptical how well her image has weathered the constant attacks. What's more is that the MSM would surely present any old attacks and smears as fact hoping their age alone will offer some perceived form of credibility to them.
I'm a grant writer and found the same pattern in a DOL grant that I did not receive. I decided to do a little analysis on the projects awarded: 71% of total number of awards went to Democratic districts; 74% of the funding went to Democratic districts. It a bit suspicious when compared to 59% for Dems in the House. I know a little about government and grants. There are supposed to be safeguards in place to minimize political influence. This is why I have made a Freedom of Information Act request for review notes and recommendations. However, I have not received a reply and they are close to going past the deadline to respond.
I think we all know what you meant, John. I read all the Bigs daily, and sometimes wonder if it's just preaching to the choir. But then I hope that maybe someone who's kinda of asleep or neutral about this stuff reads a Big link I post on my Facebook page, or sees Andrew Breitbart on some show, and is curious enough to come check it out. Hoping for the whole "fishers of men" deal.
REMINDER to our America-loving citizens. It only took 545 of these sleezy, deceitful bastards to ruin this country of 310 million people. We are, indeed, a sickly nation that we would allow and tolerate this to happen. Just look accross the pond, people.
435 members of Congress
100 members of the Senate
9 Superme Court Justices
1 Evil lying SOBPOS in the oval office
It's time…either November or…. The Washington Mall would be a wonderful place to display these sick people for the citizens to walk by and spit upon.
Its called BRIBES! Its unconstitutional and grounds for IMPEACHMENT! Will someone PLEASE stand up and do what our founding fathers expect you to do??? IMPEACH These RATS!
Yeah, I'd love having Andy Stern in charge of my retirement account!
It's under State summaries. All you have to do is total red/blue state totals
i work in grants also & saw this from the very beginning, too
You are mistaken. I'd love for those two to run.
And since RomneyCare er ObamaCare passing just knocked Mittens out of the race it might be the only thing you've got.
Run with it. Please. I could use the laughs.
"I'll bet you right now that the government teat sucking red states again get a lot more than they paid in."
"Care to show your work," anon? "I think you're a liar. There is nothing of the sort of what you claim on recovery.gov."
Oops. Did I just turn your own words around on you anon?
Yes indeed…but she greatly mistakes the power of "We the people…"
My husband reminded me last night that the progs have grossly overestimated the time to pull off their coup. They should have waited till our generation was gone and they would have pulled it off right nicely. When we take our country back we will set them back for another 100 years…
Piglosi will account for her actions…maybe not on this celestial orb…but none the less she will account for it.
It's coming and the groundwork was started last Sunday, the other thing on the agenda is "guaranteed affordable housing for seniors" these are all leading to an outright sociaIist hell in a hand basket state…
Got land?
The state needs it more than you for the "good of the body politic"…
The democratic devils need to be removed from power. Trust the conservative god or you may burn in hell!
On the expenditures front, I heard AB talk about James O'Keefe's latest sting effort at HUD offices, where in every instance those running the HUD offices were willing to give aid to James and a friend to fraudulently claim the $8,000 tax credit for first time home buyers.
Gotta love the efficiency of government largess.
Agreed. But it must be turned around.
If only Sarah Palin weren't stumping for McCain!!!! I would vote for both of these women!!
Sexist. /s
Palin's partying again today with McCain–are you sure? She's tainting the Hell out of herself being near that guy.
enjoy your happy time while it last f*wit – it's not going to last
Sad as it is, Pelosi is right – the Dems will retain control of both hoses after the elections. Why? Who exactly is mad in this country? Conservatives, but conservatives don't vote for libs anyway. Dems won't vote for Reps, so all that's left are the undecided and they appear to be evenly split. The Dems will lose a few seats (mid-term elections typically cost the party in power a few seats) but anyone who thinks there will be a massive change resulting in the eps once again having control of Congress doesn't know history. It gets worse – how do you think the Dems and the MSM will spin it? Not only does the country want what the Dems and BHO are proposing, it will be be a rejection of the right wing agenda. Folks, we haven't seen the worst of this yet. The left is just getting started.
Of course you did John, yet anon is a practiced progressive and will dodge it completely – or better yet, pull something out of his butt in an attempt to make himself sound like he knows what the hell he's talking about
Just what we need. A spending chart to help remind us of the money we didn't have to do this stimulus with in first place. Government is beyond stupid. It's reckless.
You know people, it's only because those democratic districts have so many poor and helpless people, we should be more concerned and compassionate and not be so quick to judge – all those poor folks w/out food, shelter, internet, tv, cell phones, or healthcare! sarc/
Thank You Veronique.
To the victors, the spoils, ne? Here is hoping we remember for the next six months and also hoping that the Republicans, if victorious, remember their principles and show a little more class than the current junta of the Democrat.
Lazy Jack.
http://www.thanksforthelaughs.wordpress.com
The only justice in all of the injustices that this left winged radical party has forced upon the American people is that these very so called "victories" will ultimately lead to thier own downfall….not soon enough!
Well Shazaaaam Shazammm. So this is what obama means when he says "We need to spread the wealth around". If conservatives and republicans have SO MUCH TO GIVE why is it the leftist trolls always claim those on the right are without intelligence. From what I see the left's overall IQ has to be in the fifties.
AMEN!
Up is dow and down is up.
I am enjoying my happy time. A lot.
And it is going to last. You have no chance of regaining either the House or the Senate.
And how about that Obama? Wow. A 100 year struggle finally won. And I think it's simply awesome that a black man did it.
I just can't say enough about Obama's utterly stupendous accomplishment. God it makes me happy.
AND behind those laughs are a gnashing of teeth. Your desperation is obvious.
Oh, and I can't wait for the Palin/Obama debate.
Washington Generals vs. Harlem Globetrotters. Too funny.
Very informative. Could you setup a webpage somewhere so that we could see other parameters (award per capita etc)? The fact you said you have to clean up the data (what clean up?) and focus only on awarded (vs spent) would also provide valuable information.
NO JUSTCE! (Removal from Office) NO PIECE(Our hard Earned TAX dollars).
I think that many parents who are conservative and many who are indies are really taking to (not at) the young adults. They collectively were the biggest Kool-Aid drinkers. Many now see how bitter the after taste is. When they see the erosion of the inheiritance and the increasing tax burdens and the Plantation Politics the disgust sets in. An informed and engaged youth vote is going to be a big help. While all will not be involved due to apathy at not getting a new pony and more toys for themselves, those who can think beyond Saturday night can be very powerful. Keep working on the 18 to 30 somethings as THEY HAVE THE MOST TO LOSE from being indentured. Many of them have and are deciding that TEA is better than Kool-aid!
THAT HIGH??? You really think that?
And who thinks that health care isnt going to be doled out this way?
More despicable, corrupt, immoral, actions by the Dems. $260m vs. $471m, is that your idea of fair. The so called stimulus was a payoff. The next thing your hear about is the federal government fully funding the underfunded SEIU retirement plan (<65%). The Dem cronies screw things up and then ask for/take handouts form the rest of the country that does actually understand accountability.
The slogan for November should be "It's time to clean House"….meaning the House of Representatives, the House of the Senate. Our current gov't is much like that of a house you would see on the show "Hoarders". Literally tons of trash and a horrific smell upon opening the door….its time that REAL STATESMEN (and stateswomen) got to cleaning up this once-prestigious House. Dems AND Republicans have assisted in the damage done, but the chances of a third party winning are slim and none. My advice to the Republican party would be recruit REAL people with NO special interest ties, real people who work hard, that play by the rules, actually pay their taxes, and are HELLUVA MODEL AMERICANS. I, for one, am sick and tired of the BS and am considering running for local office, it all depends on the age requirement (since I am "only"28).
It would also be helpful to get a statistician to do a regression study. They will be able to tell you the probability of the discrepincy being a random occurance. I suspect it is pretty low. In other words, it would point toward there being a direct coorelation between party affiliation and district funding.
You seem to have a severe and classic case of the psychological term known as, "projection". You have republican supporters confused with democratic supporters. It is plain and simple logic that has inflammed the majority of Americans. It is igorance that has soothed the complacent minority.
No, we're talking Bachman vs. Obama — just because barry can speak (not debate) WE HAVE PROOF THIS GUY CAN'T GOVERN!!
Thats notoriously misleading. Normally more due diligence is done in analysis like this, seems like pretty shoddy work. But you're a conservative, so this is normally how you do it. Correlation is always causation.
You can show the money isn't allocated based on unemployment rates. What about the dozen other factors to consider that also have nothing to do with party affiliation? Start with population size.
"we're talking Bachman vs. Obama"
That's even better. Good God you can't be serious about either one.
So tell me. Who do you really think is your best chance?
Pawlenty? That'd be my guess.
How about a chart to help remind us of the money we didn't have to invade and occupy Iraq in the first place.
Government is necessary. Politicians are stupid and reckless.
"Your desperation is obvious."
Yeah,right. I'm soooo desperate.
59 Senate seats. 75 seat advantage in the house. And minimum of 3 years of Obama. Most likely 7.
Put the crack pipe away.
"WE HAVE PROOF THIS GUY CAN'T GOVERN!!"
You're hopeless. Obama just passed legislation that others have tried to pass for 100 years.
Obama is a brilliant politician.
I concur. Problem is, Connie, that once my generation (I'm 50) gets that check, or that "free" medical treatment, we will become completely selfish and demand the benefits continue and increase. Generational warfare, just like it's being practiced today. Doubt it? Talk to any senior citizen about changing Social Security or Medicare.
Way to go! You can copy and paste!
That issue, combined with her reigning as Governor before her term expired, has disqualified her for either of the two top spots in my opinion. I like her, but I've lost too much respect for her to give her my vote. She should have distanced herself from Flipfloppy McTurncoat right after the campaign. But she didn't, and I can't overlook that fact.
PieceACandy
Aren't districts divided up based on population size so that they all have roughly the same nmber of people?
Sarah is damaged goods now. She had her opportunity to stand on principle and she chose to stand with McCain instead. I've seen everything I need to see. She won't be getting my vote for anything. Sad, but true.
Yes, correlation is not causation. However, correlation does raise questions that a more detailed analysis might answer. I do not think population of districts is the place to start. If you knew your civics, each representative in the House roughly represents the same number of people. I am perfectly willing to admit that there might be a variable that explains the numbers without it being an intentional act. For example: Democrats are more likely to represent population centers, which have more resources and eligible institutions; Also, it would be good to look at elements of the application. It could be that the guidelines were written (intentionally or unintentionally) that resulted in districts with certain characteristics more likely to receive funding. You would also want to compare it to past allocation of funding. It would require a substantial effort to prove causation, but on its face, it is interesting based on what we know about the Obama administration.
AT&T just announced 1 BILLION Dollar hit to Q1. They are now evaluating if they can afford any coverage for retirees. BOHICA RETIREES of ALL Fortune 1000 companies. MEDICAID HERE WE COME!!!
And I wondered why the Corps of Engineers wanted to disown our levee system here in North Louisiana.
We didn't vote "Obama Zombies"
While I highly respect these two individuals, they are NOT who we need in this office. First, we need a true conservative and I mean true to the bone. How can anyone take Palin seriously when she is endorsing and campaigning for McCain?? We are in the mess we are in because of RHINOS like him and he needs to be defeated in November. I admire the man for his service to this country, but he should NEVER have been promoted as a presidential candidate. He does not know how to take off the gloves of political politeness and engage in this battle for our country and our freedoms. Unfortunately he is a wolf in sheep's clothing and his stance on Gitmo, Amnesty and water boarding are not the type of political figure that I want speaking for me……….period!!
The party needs to find the most articulate orator in the country that will take a pledge to the conservative values we all hold dear and promote him or her to the max and Palin can be a part in that effort.
I respectfully disagree with your choices in that they are lightening rods and the MSM will crucify them, especially Palin. Her value to the party is to promote conservatism in what ever fashion she can, but not from the pulpit of the presidency, which she can never attain.

Something seems wrong with the chart. How can the average $ per district be higher than the others? Shouldn't it lie somewhere between the red and blue.
I don't doubt the liberal controlled districts received more money, given how much of it was for social welfare and not stimulus. Well they might have use a lot of it for viagra, that would at least be stimulus.
What the F__K are all you people talking about 2012,………………………
The 2010 election results just might make the 2012 election a ritual to be conducted every four years,……….
STAY FOCUSED.
anon,……….it was 60 seats before that Democrat stronghold Mass. changed that to 59,…………what
does that tell you????????????
We need to drill down further and figure out what percentage was pork. If, as I suspect 90% or more is pork, then I am ashamed of the amount that Republican districts did receive. If the Rs could show that they were not part of the DC money grab, they would have more moral authority and a better argument. The way this looks is that they played a game and came out with the short end of the stick. In a game like this, it is best not to play.
"I made no inferences that I had done any research on it"
when have you ever done any research. …………one of these days,….a piece of your pasta,………….
will stick to the wall there anon.
And the answer is……………………..
"pull something out of his butt in an attempt to make himself sound like he knows what the hell he's talking about
"
Check out the little worm's reply below. Hilarious!
It is only March folks,…………..wait till August, September and October,……that green column on the chart,………..
will look like the Sears Tower.
The GOP doesn't want to money, so I fail to see the problem.
They don't really have ALL the government employees. Many of those employees are former military and haven't changed their minds just because they work for the government. Like the Unions, not all members vote and/or agree with their masters.
Let me break it down. There are a number of ways money is obligated by the congress. 1) Through federal agencies and existing programs that are most often passed through to the States for direct services or benefits. 2) Competitive grants awarded directly to organizations. 3. Earmarks or what you might call pork.
Although I hate pork as much as the next guy, it does not make up a large percentage of the budget. I only mention all of this is that some of you are assuming that Republicans have a choice in whether their districts get money. The Governors have some control, but even that is limited by how money is allocated sometimes.
In all fairness, the democrat districts have been in much more need for assistance since they have been run by, well, democrats.
you guys are all fools, so quick to jump on data that shows nothing….a more representative graph would tell you the per head spending or give you an actual break down by geographic location, I don't believe people are this slow and naive, that graph he/she just put up is nothing but a scam
Just an additional note. I read the stimulus. A large amount of funding was allocated for competitive grants. If the Obama administration is manipulating the process, the stimulus is functioning as a slush fund to help prevent a electorial bloodbath in November. My personal belief is that all this funding will not make large difference. People are aware and engaged. A trillion dollars is not going to change things.
Excellent point
I forgot to mention entitlement payments directly to people (medicare and social security).
It must be Bush's fault – or they are just paying off more of the bribes, those made so they could get the votes for the stimulous. Interesting that the blue states that get the most money from the government are in the worst trouble – because of the liberals that run them and have no idea how to do anything but throw money on problems, even though the money doesn't solve the problems.
Exactly, though of course the Dems will deny this. Why would they be any fairer in health care than in the rest of their dealings?
Don't you mean "Allah it makes me happy" ?
Enough is enough! It is time for all the bums to go! Republican doesn't mean conservative! It is time for us to boot all incumbents up for office. Republicans and Democrats alike should work to beat their incumbents in the primary so that you will have the opportunity of winning a seat in the next election. WE NEED TO VOTE OUT ALL INCUMBENTS. No more of this they are all bums but not my guy…
Blatant Bribery!
