EPA’s Next Priority: Meat Control?
by Tim SlagleThe really nice thing about having left-wing comedy hosts is that Democrat officials have absolutely no problem appearing on their talk shows. It’s really nice to have these people interviewed in a comfortable non-confrontational setting, because the darndest things will come out.
Bill Maher in a rare hard-nosed moment, presses EPA administrator Lisa Jackson to answer a tough question about whether the EPA intends to regulate meat. After she dodges the question, Bill asks it again.
Now I could be wrong, because she was stuttering badly, but didn’t the United States EPA Administrator say that she is looking into Meat Control? She certainly advocated a restriction on food grown outside of the US.
But MEAT CONTROL? I’ve met a lot of vegetarians in my travels. I don’t really care about those who practice it themselves, although I often question their logic. I look at vegetarianism as a sort of religion, and have no problem with it being practiced in the privacy of one’s own cat-filled home. But in America we have a separation of church and state, and if you intend to force me to conform to your religious dietary restrictions, I’m going to make a little noise.
I still haven’t forgiven McDonalds for taking the beef tallow out of their french fryer. If we can have Pepsi Throwback for a limited time only, couldn’t McDonalds offer Original Recipe Fries? And while you’re at it, bring back those fried apple pies with the hot lava filling. Here’s an idea: if you want to be a vegetarian, and you are afraid you might burn yourself, stay out of McDonalds. I’m tired of having to cater to the lowest common denominator, and I don’t like their new luke warm coffee either..
Meat Control is exactly the kind of thing people warned about, when it was proposed that the EPA would be given the authority to regulate CO2. You might think I’m crazy, and conspiratorial; but back when smoking bans were popping up, some of us warned that soon smoking would be banned in bars, and that snack food would soon be regulated. The naysayers laughed at us.
Now that it is almost impossible to find a place where you can enjoy a cocktail with a smoke, trans-fats are illegal in New York, and a national soda tax has been proposed, I feel sullenly vindicated.
So I demand an answer from Ms. Jackson. Do you, or do you not, intend to regulate meat? Millions of Hungry Carnivores need to know.

They need to focus on current programs instead of instituting news ones. The FDA can't even keep e. coli out of our food supply now. The government needs to stop trying to regulate everything about our daily lives and focus on keeping America safe.
In the Navy, there was a sort of joke: What do you do if you find a quarter on deck? Pick it up or paint it. The joke here is on us. As a liberal, what do you do when you find something that people enjoy? Ban it or regulate it.
It does not appear that the nice lady is missing any meals.
Which opens up a whole new line of questioning.
"Where's the beef?"
If cattle be denied us, the Hannibal Lecter route will suffice. *nom nom nom*
I thought Meat was already controlled under the USDA?!
[...] This post was mentioned on Twitter by Daggett D Beaver and SpritelyWatchdog. SpritelyWatchdog said: Is meat regulation next? http://bit.ly/mpw6r via @addthis #teaparty #iamthemob #tcot [...]
And the answer is:
The world cattle population is estimated to be about 1.3 billion head, with about 30 percent in Asia, 20 percent in South America, 15 percent in Africa, 14 percent in North and Central America, and 10 percent in Europe. The 10 states in the US with the largest cattle populations are Texas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, and Florida.
Beef is often raised on land that isn't easily used for agriculture. Of course, we ARE a meat eating species – that is obvious by looking at our teeth and our eyes.
The fact that this moron thinking it is a "fact" that global warming is caused by raising meat just shows how completely delusional he is.
Don't knock vegetarians too hard. I was one for several years, and it had nothing to do with worshipping cats. Heck, as far as I'm concerned, the animals we typically eat are kinda stinky when left to their own devices. If anyone wants to kill and eat something that smells that bad, let 'em! I was a vegetarian because I was trying to control my diet for health reasons. Didn't work for me, so I gave up trying after a few years. I do love me some good fried chicken, lol!
She is deceptive. The USDA is over food and the EPA wants to be over farming. It looks like she will not win.
If they screw with agriculture, we will import corrupted foods and see people die. Our food is the highest quality on the planet. The strongest way to cut food production costs is to cut corners. China is willing to risk that.
How many poisionous spiders do you want in your organic imported produce?
Last year a deadly spider was almost touched by a worker in Tulsa.
Of course this does not apply to our naked emperor and his kobe beef .
Well since the meat eaters are going to have heart disease, they are more a drain on the economy than anything. So they don't really count. Do you have a question about someone the Administration might consider deserving of their consideration?
I wonder why they are picking on cattle?
I figured Barry Soetero would first outlaw Pork.
(I'll see if y'all can decipher the duplicitous meaning in that pun….)
Now, now, Cowboy. Talk like that can get you branded as a racist.
We are also a heterosexual species, but that doesn't stop them either. What's white is black, what's wrong is right. The world is upside down.
The demand for fava beans will skyrocket.
Uh because pork isn't halal?
Naw, that has already happened.
maybe if they mixed a beano in with organic grass it would cut down on the cow farts and save the planet!!
You get reelected by bringing home the "pork" and you get taxed by bringing home the "beef"!
How can we get them to understand that the globe is cooling? We are entering another ICE AGE! Check the science you liberal morons.
OT, but I think your icon, even if it supposed to be ironic, is in bad taste.
Meat control has been and always should be "medium rare"
The idiot kids are running the nation. Because idiots voted for them.
Gun control=both hands
Meat control=knife and fork
What about Obummer's $100/lb steaks?
I actually think homosexuality is at least partially biological in nature due to the differences in brain structure, hormones and the prevalence of homosexuality among the animal kingdom.
Of course, it used to be classified as a mental illness, and you can look this up, but it was actually taken out of the DSM after extensive protests instead of scientific debate.
Anyway, I could care less about homosexuality, if they want to get married then go for it – it doesn't bother me in the slightest. There would probably be a hell of a lot more conservative homosexuals if the religious conservatives didn't push them away.
The liberals are smart enough to control the weather. They are god. In their tiny diseased infected mushy brains, they are god.
Are you sure you understand the complete meaning of it? It is not supposed to mean anything "ironic". Perhaps you could do some research on why that Flag is upside down.
Or are you just an art critic?
Would it be appropriate if I had an NEA grant, and displayed Barry Soetero covered in feces?
I have a suggestion for this site but I'm not sure where to recommend it so I'm just going to post it here.
How about an "Off Topic" room where people can post whatever is on their mind and have people respond?
An example:
I read a good bit about WW2.
It is a fact that the Allies won WW2 due to the industrial strength of the US.
I know that the Russians payed in blood & the English payed in time for the victory.
But what is left of the industrial strength of the US? Nothing.
During WW2 every facet of the US (And her allies) economy was geared toward war.
The English employed piano shops to make parts for Mosquito light bombers.
The first homing torpedo was built in a bathtub factory.
The country with the industry is going to win. China now builds everything. We don't produce much anymore.
It seems to me that China understands this. It seems a lesson lost on us.
Sorry to rant (Again). I just thought I would throw an idea out there.
Betcha Oprah won't be talking about this beef
"raising beef causes more global warming than more than all the cars and planes in the world" according to mr hot in the pants. . Does anyone really buy that? Can you even measure such a thing? No. Same bs tactics Obama uses, claiming percentages of jobs saved with NO WAY of measuring such a thing.
Mar is still the suck.

I think it is quite apropos and if any one of Lord Barry's craptacular bills pass, the flag outside my house
will be upsidedown like CL's.
When a vet pushing 40 want to get hix lazy arse off the couch and fight…you know you've crossed the line.
Distress is appropriate, IMO.
Nothing that government officials say or do really surprise me. Of course there are some in government would love to regulate meat under the EPA or possibly under some other department besides the USDA since it would give the government even more control over people's lives as well as increasing the size of government and giving them another method of taking money from it's citizens.
The big question is if such a thing will happen. Given what I've seen from our government over my lifetime, I would say it is very possible especially with the current administrations focus on health.
AHHH. Thanks.
You bring up the most important point that is not discussed today. Why did we win the War? Because of our industrial might. Why, in the years after the war did we prosper so much? Was it because the rest of the world liked US?
No.
We were the ONLY country left that had an industrial manufacturing base that was flourishing. It went unscathed during the War. Not a single bomb fell here. England, Germany, and all of Europe were decimated. Japan was obliterated. The world bought from US, because we could mass produce.
Further more, with the Marshall Plan, we rebuilt all of Europe. It was the United States that built the world. Fast forward to 2009 and President Barry Soetero apologizes for US. The reason? He is not an American.
Beef tallow fries were awesome but so far as I know saturated fat is really bad and I'll stick with the new kind either way. But if I ever find out I can eat beef tallow fries without clogging my arteries I'm chowing down.
Jordan, Quite a lot wrong with your post. 1) you assume that lefties want to know the truth- this is false. They still attribute one of the coldest summers in N America to what is now described as climate change. They have their religious beliefs and I only object when they try to force those beliefs on me. 2) you assume that they can read. 3) you assume that science is unequivocal. The fact that serious geologists describe the current epoch as an "Inter-Glacial age" will not penetrate their completely solid skulls. Just thought you would want to know.
No, it should be "rare!"
Cows Fart the earth Dies. Humans Fart the Earth dies. Kill all animals and humans the earth LIVES. Now this is Change I Hope we don't go down! Who do these people think they are GOD?
Oh, please.
Eating meat doesn't cause heart disease.
[...] So who wants to call me an alarmist now, eh? First, they came for cigarettes, then my toilet. Now, it's MEAT CONTROL! [...] Now I could be wrong, because she was stuttering badly, but didn’t the United States EPA Administrator say that she is looking into Meat Control? Bill Maher is the David Letterman of HBO.
Look up what it means to fly a flag upside down and maybe you will understand the Cowboy's Logic in making that his avatar.
Leftists.
Their causes may change (global warming, end racism, involved citizens, healthy children) but they always, and I mean ALWAYS, get to the point where they start discussing force.
If you are one of the few people who really understand what is being measured on the right-left scale, you understand this isn't just a symptom of the left – it is what makes them leftist: the belief that decisions and power should lie with the state and not with the individual.
Have you noticed that since President Barry Soerto was sworn an, and since Bush left, there haven't been any more Hurricanes?
Coincidence or conspiracy?
Not to mention we are now calling CO2 a pollutant and poison, yet plants thrive off of CO2. I have grown items in a greenhouse, and the more CO2, the better the plant growth. CO2 is no more a poison than oxygen.
Vegans will probably starts to loose their teeth sooner.
She was on 60 Minutes last night – By the end of the year she will make a diecision on if COAL needs to be regualted even more.
50% of our energy comes from coal… This will kill the coal industry ….
I’ll eat meat if I want to!!
No damn government is gonna tell me i cant eat it!! >:(
"I look at vegetarianism as a sort of religion, and have no problem with it being practiced in the privacy of one’s own cat-filled home."
I'm an atheist, libertarian, I don't have pets, and I avoid eating meat because it seems wrong to me to harm living creatures for pleasure. I'm not sure how that's religious. The Cult of Stereotyping is, unfortunately, alive and well, and includes a broad spectrum of liberal and conservative worshipers.
It's just a joke–no need to be offended, David. I'm Mormon; everybody mocks us. Embrace your abnormality.
P.S. If I didn't know about God, Jesus, prophets, etc., I'd probably be at the Church of Ayn Rand too.
Yes, they do actually measure the methane and maybe other air, water and ground pollutants. I used to work for USGS and wrote a program to analyze methane production at poultry farms. A ridiculous job, nevertheless, I was paid for it. Of course, we know they do produce smelly gasses that's why people tend not to hang around. But honestly, I just don't believe cow fluffs are going to damage the environment and cause global warming. Any farmer can tell you that a barn full of cows tends to be comfortably warm on a chilly day, but that's just from body heat, not fluffs. If there is any real issue with cow fluffs, I tend to believe it's because the farms tend to be huge corporate farms now, not the smaller family run farms. I don't know if you are aware that Congress voted last week to import chicken. Bird flu, anyone? I believe the left are trying to force all industry out to make us as poor and powerless as possible.
CO2 is a gas thats vital to our atmosphere….plants absorb it, along with sunlight to make their own food. You might remember that from 7th grade science class…..its called photosynthesis.
Also, every single human being and animal on this planet exhales carbon dioxide. I wonder if these extreme environmentalists know that.
But they’ll probably invent masks for all of us to wear eventually.
I hope the DemoCong do pass a bill to outlaw beef. Since it is the gasses that the cattle produce that is supposedly the culprit, I'm guessing they will put a tax on each head of cattle.
I hope they do this. Because if they though they had angry crowds at the town hall meetings over Soviet style health "care", wait until they see what happens when they double or triple or quadruple the price of meat by whatever dishonest scheme they hatch to get rid of meat.
THAT is a town hall meeting I want to see.
PLEASE pass a law banning cattle or placing a huge tax on each head of cattle. PLEASE
I always make fun of vegans, call 'em Twig-N-Weed munchers, but I don't love 'em any the less. They make fun o' me, too, LOL.
Hey, lady, I got some meat you can control right here…(pointing down)
Whenever I see Vegetarian or Vegan juxtaposed with Cat (as in the original article), I am reminded of a friend of a friend:
Said friend of a good friend is a Rabid Vegan Animal Rights Activist (she protests at Marine World about the maltreatment of the Killer Whales). She lives in an eensy beensy studio apartment with several cats. At one point, she decided that her cats should also be VEGANS, and cooked special VEGAN CAT FOOD for them. The result was a severe decrease in the local bird population.
She also decided to feed the feral cats in the neighborhood. Becoming particularly enamored of one of the ferals, she consulted a Pet Psychic to see if she should adopt it. She told the Pet Psychic about her 500 sqft studio apartment and her four other cats. After absorbing this information, the Pet Psychic wisely informed her that "The other cats are telling me No More Cats".
The Vegan ignored this sage counsel and adopted the feral cat. The other cats proceeded to terrorize it so that it now lives behind the toilet.
The end.
Lisa Jackson….fomerly at the EPA in NJ?
The one that couldn't do her job at the state level, so they promoted her to the national level? The one that Obama was warned about?
http://www.peer.org/docs/epa/08_8_12_peer_ltr_opp...
This idiot, Lisa Jackson allowed a day care center (Kindercollege) to go into the site of a former thermometer factory that was extremely contaminated with mercury levels far too high for children to be exposed to, and now these kids have neurologial problems….don't think I'd trust her inspecting anything.
Yes, the world is upside down – as evidenced by the fact that this very day New York OUTLAWED bake sales in schools to "combat" childhood obesity! Wow! They fixed that problem, didn't they? Mark my words, in one year or less, they will be crying for more money to "combat" the funds lost from banning bake sales!
"The really nice thing about having left-wing comedy hosts is that Democrat officials have absolutely no problem appearing on their talk shows."
Oh come on, Bill Maher is not a comedian. The only person that I've found that is more unfunny than he is Al Franken. And if you consider him just left-wing, I guess the center right is considered the far right. He's so far to the left that the left-wing needs a telescope to see him.
No, the radical 60's former hippies are running the country. BHO is a product of that environment, and merely a means to an end. He was elected because the idiot kids – kids being anyone stuck in Star Trek Utopia World – voted for the one. The radical 60's former hippies "sold out" to gain their power and are now "re-discovering" their idealogical 60's purpose – only because it is deemed popular. None of the people in Washington with real power (i.e. Pelosi, Reed, Rangel, Frank, etc.) believe in anything that does not give them more power and more wealth. They are simply using the ideologists, Sunsteen for example, for their own ends.
It's a crying shame that the people being used cannot see the forest for the trees. But, then again, maybe they can and are simply just sellouts as well.
"I look at vegetarianism as a sort of religion, and have no problem with it being practiced in the privacy of one’s own cat-filled home."
Dang. When did I introduce you to my ex-GF anyway? You've obviously met her.
You are right. We must start focusing on the message and not the messenger. But, you left out the most important thing about the left – absolution from personal responsibility. If the state regulates our every move then there can be no personal responsibility. We already see parts of the abandonment of personal responsibility in our court system – the "I was a battered child/ wife" defense, the "religion/god" made me do it" defense, the "temporary insanity" defense, the list goes on and on. The bottom line is we have deflected personal responsibility to make our own actions someone or something else's fault.
This abdication of personal responsibility can be found at all levels of our lives. We fail to swing at a strike and the umpire made a bad call. We fail an exam and the teacher failed to teach. "Failure is not an option" has been redefined – literally. We no longer look at failure as an opportunity to learn, we simply ignore failure as if it did not exist. We even out the playing field, we "give everyone a chance", everything we do is an "opportunity to learn" – but no lesson is taught. There are no winners or losers, everyone is equal. Which is the biggest bunch of bull….
All "men" are created equal – is not a guarantee of equal results – just a guarantee that everyone "starts" on the same line. How far we go, how fast we go, is based on individual talent and motivation. Where exactly is the motivation to excel if there is no reward for same?
"and I avoid eating meat because it seems wrong to me to harm living creatures for pleasure." OK, I'll bite, do you believe in Darwinism – the Theory of Evolution? Do you believe that all of the meat eating species on the planet should be exterminated? Man is not the only meat eating species on the planet, he is merely at the top of the food chain. Man (among other meat eating species) does not "harm living creatures for pleasure", man, today, raises (for the most part) his food. Man is the only meat eating species on the planet that raises/plants his own food. Every other species must kill or forage for their food. Man raises/plants his – not for pleasure, but for survival.
You may not believe that Man needs meat to survive. And that is OK, as long as you do not impose your beliefs on the populace. For even though history and evolution have proved you wrong, you are, entitled to your beliefs and opinion. You are not, however, entitled to impose your rights and beliefs on the rest of us.
By the way, there are those among us who believe that plants are living beings. Using your logic, if plants are living beings, what would any of us eat for sustenance?
When you add Obama's "regulatory czar" Cass Sunsteen into the mix, it's troubling to see where this may be heading. He believes that animals should have all the rights of humans, including the right to sue! It's possible that there will be an attempt to ban beef entirely!
Well said bro.. They are all about abortions but will hug a tree to death….. So trees are more important than human life in a lib's eyes???
Very sad. Where are your morals?
Obama already said if we want to continue to use coal it would probably bankrupt the coal companies and send energy costs sky high because well that's the cost of saving the planet.
Pull your head's out of your asses you lib nuts! Humans are NOT creating "temerature change" Yes we do pollute a little much here and there but that is why we have the EPA (choke). How the hell do you explain previous ice ages and what not? Were cave men burning too many bon fires to end the ice age in the first place?? Those bastards! Thank god we have Obama, he will make them pay! (sarcasm)

Nice..
And just so ya know, God created the Earth FOR Man.
Have a nice day.

The idiots that voted for the idiots are going to be in for a rude awakening. They really believe the idiots they voted for are going to get revenge of the people they hate. While they are busy congratulating the idiots they voted for; they are included with the ones that are going down the tubes.
They have to start realizing dictators have no friends. Only sacrifices. And those sacrifices will be them.
That's wagu, not kobe, which is the American version of kobe, IIRC; but, same damned thing, actually.

I'm sick unto death that the frther into this present administration, the more like a terrible Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel life becomes!
do you understand what an upside down flag means?
it is but they don't control the "emissions" made by the cattle or the natural resources used to prepare and take the beef to market…
funny, i've been thinking of this a lot. i live in a slowly dying (being forced out) dairy area in cali. so i think about cows a lot. now, if cattle get the right to sue, shouldn't they have a right to vote? now if they have a right to vote, they'll have to do it by proxy. so we'll have their owners vote for them…i think we'd pretty much get rid of all these folks if that happens…but i'm a weird dreamer, emph. on weird.
Bill Maher is a repugnant reptile. He is the reason I canceled my HBO.
Hope they do it! I'd really like to see a thousand page bill that explains how to count the legs and divide by 4 to get the actual head count.
Cattle can only vote, if the vote straight democrat.
The vegans I dislike are the ones who own a dog and proudly proclaim that the dog is a vegan, too. Makes me want to drop a hamburger on the ground and see how vegan that dog really is.
Oh! Avoid soy (except soy sauce if it is fermented). It will load your body up with estrogen.
By George, that's it!!! The new purpose for ACORN. They'll be charged with the job of first registering the cattle then, because they will all miraculously be "cattle whipserers," enter the votes of the cattle. Just replace "Community" with "Cattle" and , voila, new organization.
The Delta smelt; a fish more important than people

California Dept. of Water Resources
This is the curious story of the Delta Smelt, a tiny, slender fish that resides exclusively in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, a fertile area that serves as a transition for water originating in northern California, and ends in water delivery west of the Delta for agriculture and south of the Delta for citizens of southern California.
In order to deliver the water, there are pumping stations near Tracy that are apparently sucking and pulverizing the Delta smelt, and according to environmentalists, leading to a dramatic decrease in population and potential extinction.
The value of the Delta smelt? Essentially nothing. Besides serving as bait for attracting larger fish, the Delta smelt is not edible, does not eliminate pests or have any meaningful commercial value. Sometimes, despite environmentalist’s protestations to the contrary, certain species reach a natural evolutionary dead end.
However, using the weapon of the Endangered Species Act, environmentalist groups sued, and on December 14, 2007, Judge Oliver Wanger of the United States District Court for the Eastern district of California issued an Interim Remedial Order. The Order remanded the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in conjunction with the United States Department of the Interior, to issue an opinion or permit that dramatically reduced the delivery of water from the Delta.
The result has been the diversion of tens of billions of gallons of fresh water away from vital agriculture and population needs and directly into the Pacific Ocean. A precious resource essentially wasted.
The impact on farmers in the area has been devastating with the San Joaquin Valley unemployment rate reaching 14% and leaving thousands of previously productive farming acres scorched and unusable. In addition, water utilities in southern California have already begun raising rates and creating tiered pricing to address the 85% reduction in imported water. To make matters worse, California is already under drought conditions, and in combination with the Delta pumping restrictions, local politicians are calling for Draconian reductions in water use by individuals of 40%.
Fortunately, the State Water Contractors have filed a lawsuit of their own against the Department of the Interior and the US Fish and Wildlife service, claiming that in their opinion, both agencies ignored the most current scientific evidence and other probable reasons for the Delta smelts decline.
Laura King Moon, assistant general manager of the State Water Contractors, said this; “We're doing everything we can to fight unnecessary, irresponsible restrictions because people are losing their businesses and jobs as a consequence of them. We support effective protection of endangered species, but we need to be smart about how we do it. With the current economic crisis and drought situation, we need to look to comprehensive solutions rather than just pumping restrictions."
As usual, devastation to jobs and economic ruin mean nothing to radical environmentalists. To them, the Delta smelt’s survival has a higher priority than the human condition.
But really, by now should we even be surprised?
I think someone needs to check the meaning of conservative. Do you give up your beliefs just to be more inclusive? No, you don't. Homosexuals cannot be conservatives. It is a contradiction in terms.
Surely someone out there is doing or has done a study on the amount of "greenhouse gas" emissions belched into Mother Earth's atmospheric blanket by all levels of ever-expanding Big Government. I want to see it here! I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the Big Government sector uses up more of all forms of energy that creates more pollution and CO2 emissions (oh, wait, that's now a "pollution" too) than just about any other single industry/sector in the economy. Headline: Big Nanny Killing Gaia!!!
If no one's researched/is-researching this already, I'll start.
Without any regulation, enjoy eating ground beef that continues to contain meat from cows living in 4 states plus Uruguay. Sounds delicious.
I'm a fiscal conservative, but I'm best described as a libertarian. I could care less what people do in the privacy of their own home as long as it doesn't directly harm others.
Drugs and prostitution should be completely legalized too – the government has no business telling people how to live their lives.
Nowhere is this change in direction more apparent than in a handful of recent, potentially far-reaching maneuvers related to climate change policy. In January, Jackson directed EPA officials to reconsider California's languishing request to impose stricter greenhouse gas emissions limits on motor vehicles. (The Bush administration denied it in 2007.) More recently, she instructed the agency to review Bush policies that, if changed, could lead to federal regulation of carbon dioxide emissions from coal plants and utilities.
Because these reviews clearly have the White House's backing, Jackson's first few months in office suggest that she will play a critical role in carrying out the administration's climate change policy, even as the details and timing of a carbon dioxide regulation plan remain undecided. Though noting that laws "leave room for policymakers to make policy judgments," she also has pledged "to administer with science as my guide." Jackson comes to the EPA with significant regulatory experience, having served for more than 15 years at the EPA before becoming New Jersey's chief environmental regulator in 2006.

Here is a little history of Jackson in NJ…this group wrote to Obama.
The government doesn't have the right to tell people how to live their lives – until it affects others! Prostitution and drug abuse are not victimless crimes. Both are leading to the deterioration of our culture and destroying families. I'm sure your outlook would be different if someone in your family contracted HIV from someone who had engaged in prostitution or died of a drug overdose. If you have had that happen, I don't know how you could still be of that opinion.
I am a vegetarian.
Not a religion to me. I just dont like it. I still cook it for my family… no problem.
Our government is ridiculous… I hope America wakes up… gets off the koolaid and vote these idiots OUT.
Should we outlaw cars because people get in accidents and die? We outlawed alcohol and people not only went blind from drinking poorly made bathtub gin, but the illegal proceeds funded violent organizations and individuals like Al Capone.
Prostitution is legal in Nevada and nobody has contracted HIV from those prostitutes – they regulate it so the women are tested, trained, and required to use condoms.
So yes, prostitution is a victimless crime – if someone gets an STD then that was THEIR CHOICE to engage in risky behavior. We can control those risks with regulation, but through prohibition we merely empower thugs and increase the risks.
Also, the most widely used illegal drugs are quite safe – many are much safer than alcohol or even tobacco. If they were legalized they be even safer (just like alcohol) since people could know exactly what they are ingesting and wouldn't have to worry about shady individuals cutting drugs with dangerous chemicals or introducing additives for various effects.
You could argue that Barbie dolls or rap music destroys families or our culture, but I don't think we should throw people in prison for them. A crime needs a real victim – this fluffy fantasy stuff about "destroying our culture" is the same line of reasoning they use for "hate crime" laws – another disdainful aspect of our justice system.
AMEN—
I find it fascinating how obsessed people are about the sex lives of others. They choose to call themselves conservatives. Me? I call them either perverts or voyeurs.
Congratulations. The dumbest comments I have heard today and you got it in under the wire at 11:50. Humans were always frugivores. the unnecessary slaughter of animals for meat was learned. Check the fossils of the teeth from millenia ago. If you were meant to eat meat you would have claws. You have soft fingers for picking fruit. Soft like your cranial innards.
