Now Obama Discovers GOP Health Care Proposals?
by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA)Oh, the President must be really desperate
After repeating for months that Republicans have no solutions when it comes to health care reform, he now wants to discuss the very ideas he denied existed and has invited Republican leaders to the White House to find a “bipartisan” health care solution. How gracious of him.

You’ll have to excuse us for questioning the sincerity of the President’s newfound desire to work together. As Chairman of the Republican Study Committee, virtually every week in 2009, we requested to meet with the President to discuss health care and other central issues. Each time, a polite “thank you” email from the White House was the extent of our bipartisan discussions. It’s interesting that only now – once his big-government dream is on political life support – does the President see a use for Republicans. And it appears that use may be more political than rooted in policy goals.
In fact, the President’s invite to Republicans has come pre-packaged with some pretty audacious spin. For starters, this week the President has aggressively tried to frame Republicans as the obstructers to health care passage, unwilling to participate in the process. That’s a pretty tough sell for a President with a 77-seat majority in the House and 59 Democrat Senators in the other chamber. And before taking that line, the President might want to check with his partisan partner, Speaker Pelosi, who famously told House Democrats they would be shut out themselves if they attempted to work with Republicans on health care.
That brings us to the second, more laughable, new claim from the White House: that the bill already contains Republican ideas and concessions from Democrats. Right.
Let’s be clear: the only concessions made by the President have been to win over votes in his own party. Allowing people to purchase insurance across state lines only if said insurance complies with stringent federal rules and pledging to further study lawsuit abuse does not qualify as bipartisan collaboration.
Now, one could not be faulted for, at first blush, interpreting the President’s invitation to Republicans as recognition that his current health care plan is a loser with the public and as a symbol of new openness to a different – more patient-centered – approach to health care reform. That would make sense, since at this point it shouldn’t take a professional pollster to recognize that his plan is a non-starter for most Americans and continuing down the current path would be a fruitless political exercise.
The more we hear from him, however, it appears our “pragmatic” President still hasn’t gotten the message and remains immovably wedded to the plans already passed in the House and Senate. This being the case, it appears this summit is simply an attempt by the President to use the White House as a political tool to intimidate his way into a government takeover of healthcare. The American people and Republicans in Congress will not be taken by this Chicago-style politics.
Unless the President is willing to sincerely start from scratch with a blank sheet of paper and agree to rule out certain ideas Americans fundamentally reject, his health care summit will be nothing more than empty political theater. Constructive negotiations are only possible if the President listens to the American people and promises that health care reform will not contain:
- A government-run plan of any kind which would destroy private, personal coverage.
- Mandates on individuals or employers which violate our Constitution and place undue burdens on people and businesses.
- Tax increases which hinder our economy and endorse larger government involvement in our lives.
- Bureaucratic decision-making which takes health care control away from patients and doctors and hands it to Washington.
All year long, Republicans have been standing with Americans who understand there are certain principles for positive health care reform. An invite from the President is no reason for Republicans to abandon these people or principles.
If the President wants to shoot straight and start over on a real bipartisan bill the American people can support, we are here, ready, willing, and able to make it happen. We have solutions, like H.R. 3400. But if the President is simply looking for a political solution to bad policy, there’s very little room for negotiation. We have made our position quite clear. Now the ball is in the White House’s court.

Could it be that Barry has finally understood that the campaign is over…? Nah…Who am I kidding…!
BHO~ perfect example of an elitist swine. The Emperor has finally recognized he has no clothes, courtesy of the Tea Party! We must press our advantage, on to November! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
It's kinda ironic that he promises to televise THIS healthcare negotion on C-SPAN, but all year long the democrats kept C-SPAN out of their negotiations….or were better yet, schemes.
OBAMA LIE OF THE DAY http://hotair.com/archives/2010/02/12/obamateuris...
How about sticking to the US Constitution, You have no Constitutional right to even think about making a health care bill of any kind..
We will take names and do our best to get rid of everyone the continues to take away state rights be it Dem Or Repub..
The only thing you should be asking is " What Constitutional right do we have to create a health care bill" period or any other bill you write no more no less!!!!
We've had enough of our rights taking away!!!
This is directed to all of the Fed Gov and not just you Mr Price.. But you need to know how we really feel !!!
This whole C-span thing is right out Alinsky's playbook and the Repubs are stupid enough to fall for it…Its a set up dummies …I want to see the C-Span coverage of the back room deals and debate of the Dems….Never happen..Repubs will get ambushed on live TV look stupid take the fall take the blame while the Dems sit back and laugh at how stupid the Repubs are..Every time the Repubs reach across the isle they pull back a nub ..USE ALINKY"S RULES AGAINST THEM…Play the game just like them
"If the President wants to shoot straight and start over on a real bipartisan bill the American people can support, we are here, ready, willing, and able to make it happen. "
Ready, FIRE, Aim!
Barrack is nothing but a pouser, a charlatan. Jimmah Carter reincarnated. Health Care is over. So is he.
Stay away from the Hopium! Just say no. WE THE PEOPLE don't want any part of what they are selling.
C'mon Republicans, Man up!
Obumble is so full of sheite……..The rebumblicans have had a decent proposal from way back. I smell political posturing on both sides of the hall. Prove me wrong Republicans, please, and show us a set and a real plan.
Counting down the days for November 2, 2010, and November 6, 2012. It could come none to soon for me…..
obama is a liar
If the President wants to talk tell him to pull both the Senate and House bills back, start over with open C-Span covered debate, and then we'll talk! Not before!
The campaigning has only just begun.
Biggest Liar to ever sit in the White House hands down. Its just the left is so used to being phoney and self centered they cant even see how they look to the american people.
They do have the constitutional right to make a healthcare bill. It's called the commerce clause.
However, there is no interstate commerce included in health insurance because of the laws already on the books.
They HAVE to lift the anti-trust exemption and give companies a federal charter in order to regulate them.
A good, solid B+
I'm waiting for the next Obama Spinfomercial on all the broadcast networks. All he knows how to do is campaign and promise anything to anyone, so there must be one in the works somewhere (not that I would watch it) to tr to sell the American people a failed plan.
Indeed…! No more lawyers. We need people that know how to run a business, not a ponzi scheme.
Kind of makes you think he's just using the media to attempt to make the Republicans look bad in order to get his way, doesn't it? As Rush said," The Republicans need to be the party of No. HELL NO!". They need to tell the man-child to go pound sand, and if they don't…if so much as one of them caves on any of this socialistic crap…they are through individually AND as a Party.
I hope you are listening, Rep. Price, because I'm a registered Republican that's telling you this.
To win this "dog and pony show" the Repubs must state from the beginning that they are there to represent the "people" , and that they will not comprise on their principles. The President says he respects the free market, and that he is not an ideoloque, then let him prove it!
The main problem with health insurance prices, despite what the socialists say ,is that because of GOVERNMENT there is no free market competition.:
1. do away with state restrictions and mandates and open health insurance across state lines.
2. allow health insurance companies to package and offer a variety health insurance plans (as with car ins.) to address the needs of the consumer. For instance, allow young people to purchase "catastrophic" only insurance w/ a high deductable that would only cost about $20/month. Allow healthy people to be rewarded for their good behavior, etc.
3. aggressive TORT REFORM!
4. allow portability.
5. get Big Government out of the way and let the free market put people back to work, that would probably cut the number of unisured by half!
Do this and costs come down, and more people will be insured!
No surrender, no compromise! We on the Rightful side of the Constitution con not give an inch, not one single point of compromise. Once we give in to the Progressive agenda, the towers of freedom sill fall.
Agree to meet with him, without C-Span. just like the Dems. Then tell him where to stick it. Immediately afterward, go on the offense, contrast the differences in the plans, AND express disappointment that the POTUS wasn't bi-partisan
tic…tic….tic….
http://xrl.in/3ba0
You got that right. The GOP needs to say with one loud voice "Hell no, Mr. President!". If they can't find the stones to do that then we'll just have to do it ourselves…which will pretty much mean we have no further use for them at that point.
When the Constitution was writen the term " Regulate= To make regular " not Tax, make regulations or in this case take over health care !!!
You've got that backward: The clothes have no emperor in them. An empty suite occupies the Oval Office.
So extending one hand in a feeble, limp wristed sort of way, while you clutch a dagger in the other is the only way these guys know how to communicate.
Obama isn't sincere about wanting GOP help. he just wants them in a meeting to shove blame on them while the liberals attempt to make the GOP points their own and pass a bill with no GOP support. All they need is Olympia Snow and another rino to bend over and we all know what the chance of that happening is.
Obama and the WH are on defense and are in sore need of a win. Any kind of win.
Rep Price requires:
1.A government-run plan of any kind which would destroy private, personal coverage.
How about no freakin' government plan of ANY KIND?
2.Mandates on individuals or employers which violate our Constitution and place undue burdens on people and businesses.
How about NO FREAKIN' MANDATES OF ANY KIND?
3.Tax increases which hinder our economy and endorse larger government involvement in our lives.
HOW ABOUT NO FREAKIN' TAX INCREASES OF ANY KIND?
4.Bureaucratic decision-making which takes health care control away from patients and doctors and hands it to Washington.
How about no freakin' bureaucrats getting involved with healthcare at all?
Any Republican that engages this dog and pony show, does so at their own peril. It seems to me that everyone has seen though this tactic.
Some may not understand…
There is Federal Regulation that says Insurance companies CANNOT do interstate commerce (sell accross state lines.)
So trying to use the clause in the Constitution that gives congress the ability to Regulate Interstate commerce CANNOT be in play. By the current regulation there is NO interstate commerce to regulte.
The most disastrous first year of any modern presidency seems to be having a "moderating" effect on Obama and his "fundamentally transform America" agenda.
Keep his feet to the fire, Congressman ! He works for us !
Thanks Randy, some else sent me one of those before and I didn't save it. I saved this one!
Congressman Price – please repeat ad nauseum to every reporter,
"We want to work with the President, and we both should start with a clean piece of paper. Bringing in GOP or Dem preconceptions will only ruin full and open negotions. You agree don't you? Don't you think they should be open and fair and on CSPAN?"
Absolutely right! All Republican senators should tell Obamao to take his "bipartisanship" and pike off!
And yet, they (democrats!) STILL insist they the America public WANTS this!! They have no intention of paying attention to anything we say…I'll quote Nancy Piglosi " We won, we can do what we want!"
It's a trap. Stay away.
The last time I looked there were Three EQUAL branches of Government. Two of them work for us (we voted for them, our mistake) and the other is appointed. Congress is not an employee of the Community Organizer and they do not have to agree with his style of Government or his take over plans for our Country. The American people do not want this Health Care Reform (HA-HA) as is.
It's time the Organizer realized he is only one part of our Government and he needs to work with the other two. It is not his way or the highway.
If you have a spare 2 minutes, you have to watch this video rckmom…LOL

Bipartisan…
Lucy Obama: Ok Charley, I'll hold the football and you kick it.
Charlie Republican: Duh… ok… run run run… wiff… thud.
After ignoring Republicans and most Americans for over a year while pushing huge deficits, tax increases, the stimulus farce, the acorn scandal, the health care scam and Socialism down our throat, now they are "reaching out." How gracious of them.
I wonder why? Could it be they hear something coming? November 2nd?

Goes to show he is the fricken LIAR many of us said he was. By that I mean those who didn't fall for his lying crap and saw through this marxist socialist. Maybe he will pull a Murtha or Kennedy on us. One can only hope.
The sunlight is streaming in and the monster is failing. There is nothing to discuss except to decide who gets the honor of driving the stake.
Obamao is a pathological liar. I think his entire life was one of lying and charming his way to the top.
Don't forget that the bills include a lot of social justice-
-directing which colleges get money for medical training, based on bureaucratic decisions
-directing which specialty, medical professionals are allowed to enter and where they are allowed to work
-ethnic/racial & other quotas
We have yet again let the progressives shape the discussion. Insurance choices/pre-existing conditions/party of NO…
If you can't find your cahonas, get out of the way and let some real men represent the people. [before some of you go nuts-I'm including women in that too. wouldn't want to be politically incorrect while I'm being politically incorrect]
Aw, he was just being modest. You know he wanted to change that B+ to an A+,
Say, I have two questions for all of you. I am a business owner and I pay for my employees' health insurance. The annual cost exceeds $250,000 annually. My question is: who do you think pays for your fellow Americans who have exercised their "constitutional right" to not have health insurance? Hmmm. I know. The persons who have health insurance because Rule No. 1 of economics is: there is no such thing as a free lunch so the hospitals simply pass down their costs to the people who will pay. My other question for you will is: will this bill contain the language from the Republican Senator from Georgia that Sarah Palin claimed constituted "death panels"?
o bla di o blah da o ba ma life goes on man…
i am so tired of this guy being the center of our lives…
I agree with everything you've said. However, Obamacare is really a payoff to union chief Andy Stern et al, because the unions are going broke and can't afford to pay the Cadillac retirement plans they promised their members. Obamacare would unionize doctors, nurses and hospitals and create 111 Federal agencies of unionized workers, all to prop up the unions like a giant Ponzi scheme. It isn't about improving care; it's about selling insurance and using insurance companies like utilities. The government sets the rules and regs. There is already a panel in place thru the stimu-LESS bill that will determine who gets treatment based upon cost, age and usefulness to society. BTW, the deal Pelosi cut with the insurers is that they must offer insurance to everyone, including those with pre-existing conditions, but that they cannot be sued if they deny treatment. So a patient can have insurance, get turned down by the insurer due to age and cost, and there would be no recourse.
Unless the Dims are willing to go back to the drawing board and consider true tort reform, an audit of CMS to eliminate waste and removing restrictions on cross state insurance, just say no. Better yet, Hell No!
obummer is hoping we the people think he has changed
Rep. Price, keep away from the Barry trap, he will simply use the Republicans as his whipping boy. Ancient sales technique, “once you’ve made the sell, shut up!” The vast majority are sold, now shut up, and let Barry twist in the wind…what fun!
Rep. Rrice, please make available the 2009 requests to the White House from your commitee and the respondent e-mails from the White House to this site and all other media outlets. Let the evidence be seen.
Thank you for your explanation. Well put.
Congress can tax anything they want, it's just that the tax and the benefits have to be equally spread.
For instance, taxing the rich to pay for the health insurance of the poor is unconsttitutional.
Come on, Mr. President, get on with LEADING America! Stop trying to "look good"! You were elected to represent the people, but you don't even know us!
I also want to express my gratitute to the braindead liberal or retarded conservative who gave me a thumbs down for being right.
At no point in history will we ever be able to afford National Healthcare.
The mammoth centralized Soviet model is what they should've learned lessons from. But no, American DemoFasciSociCommies somehow think they'll manage to shove the square peg into the round hole, no matter how many tries it takes.
"Health Care is over. So is he."
From your mouth to God's ears, Cowboy. Your simple wish is echoed many times over across this great nation.
Representative Price. From my very own district. Leader of the Obstuctionists.
And I thought we sent you to Washington to work together for the betterment of the country. Hopefully there are other voices of reason within the Republican Party. You aren't one of them.
Don't worry… I understood your post and gave you 2+.
Let's not forget this one http://obamaclock.org/
Go home TROLL.
Obamacare bit the dust! We, the American people have spoken.
Now, to save face, Obama is going to make fools of the Repubs by snookering them into
a so-called summit. Can't we see what this is all about? When has Obama EVER told the
truth? He and the Dems need to be left hanging out to dry on this one.
Forget the niceties – forget the so-called cooperation – Obama certainly has. Repubs,
play hardball this time around and stand firm. Be civil, but FIRM.
Move to China, you DemoFasciSociCommie scum-bag.
[...] Price began his op-ed by suggesting that Mr. Obama was running out of options to save the health care legislation. “Oh, the president must be really desperate,” he [...]
Remember when McCain made a joke on the campaign trail about Obummer's experience? Something about "a community organizer, haw haw, what is that?" Well, I guess we found out!
It's really sad that the Republican Party put him on the ticket. Maybe they will get it and find a candidate that is truly electable and not a tired old progressive that gets by on his charm from 40 years ago.
I'm worried that despite our efforts to fend off the assaults for the next three years that the damage will have been done and our Republic will turn into Britain part Deux.
You were the one who sent it to me. I just didn't want to go back through my log to find it! Thanks WWU!
I didn't give you a thumbs down, but I just gave you the thumbs up on all your posts here
Obama keeps saying that the American people don't understand the health care bill…that Republicans and some people in the media have resorted to scare tactics which confused us. Oh, and also that he hasn't explained it to us enough. LOL Well, we Americans understand the spin – the healthcare bill will lower costs and insure 30 million Americans – we really do. The spin is a cover for taking over 1/6 of our economy, taking over our healthcare decisions and choices, forcing us to buy something that we may not want, deciding who gets treatment and who doesn't, increas increasing taxes, cutting Medicare…you know, the stray cats and dogs that "somehow" made it into the bill. Not to mention all of the bribes, etc. Do I understand it correctly, Mr. President? Anything other than starting over is no option! I hope the Republicans stay focused and on track so they don't fall for his crap!
Obamasoros is full of tricks beware of a sly rap from the left.
Let's see. Everyone who disagrees with these neocons is a Fascist, Socialist or Communist. And you wonder why nothing can get done in Washington.
I see no one on this page has the balls to answer my questions. Hmmm. I guess the people with insurance like paying for all of you who are exercising their "constitutional right" not pass their obligation to pay their bills to other persons. What a bunch of hypocrites. Oh, I know you claim to be "self-insured". Well folks, one of my best freinds, who was in excellent health, caught a virus which damaged his heart and he needed a transplant. He was lucky and got one, Total cost $750,000 and climbing. But, by God, nobody is going to tell me I have to have insurance. It is my right. Well, your rights end when it affects my pocketbook.
Funny how all this bluster really comes down to one thing – the Senate filibuster rule. Healthcare reform still enjoys majority support (that's right – 50% + 1) in both the House and the Senate. And the Senate filibuster rule is just that – a rule. Not a law. Not in the constitution. It's within the power of the majority to change it at any time. And based on the obstructionist activities of the minority, I would not bet against a change. Soon.
The truth in your argument was revealed during the healthcare debate – when Republicans terrified senior citizens with claims that Obama was "cutting Medicare". That was rich.
Medicare – the ultimate in socialized medicine. Republicans – defending socialized medicine. While calling Obama a socialist.
He just wants to blame Republicans
"Let me be clear. There are those who want to do nothing," says Professor Obama. His straw man stories are so boring. Thank God for the Mute function on the remote.
They not only kept C-Span out they kept the Republicans out. How many Republican amendments are in the Healthcare takeover bills in both houses?
NEVER! He's a Re-organizer, that's all he can do! Only problem is nobody has figured out just what he has been reorganizing but the Constitution, which was an Impeachable act the last time that I checked! But then, who wants Biden or Obama, although I think Biden is the least dangerous of being able to actually do anything!
If Republicans want to win big in November (If obama even lets the election occur) they better say NO!
PS: Only a worldly politically correct "Black" President could get away with it, so watch!
Charming the women that he charmed I don't believe is all that hard, especially for a sociopath!
And, He wouldn't do just that???
I afraid that you probably are right! Oh no!
—-over and over and over and over and over and over and over—-AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!
They are just use to college type intellectuals and not real people, but remember, obama also is a sociopath and sociopaths are 100% effective in winning over females!!!
Yes, Medicaid and Medicare are socialism. You people want more, we want less. Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.
How's that working out?; http://www.usdebtclock.org/
H.R.3200 with the bloated Senate pork would've decimated this Union of States faster than the huge, centralized Soviet system. Ours would've dwarfed theirs.
Considering the true inflation which exists and the fact that all Social Security recipients were denied a COLA this year, for the first time in decades, and the fact that CMS are trying to pay doctors even less when they're already strained by skyrocketing malpractice insurance while Medicare patients pay higher a co-pay then, yes…. King Hussein and his Congress did "cut Medicare".
Can we do what needs to be done to bring costs down to what they were, likely beyond your memory, when a serious illness didn't break the family and 20 somethings didn't think about insurance for something so affordable?
Yes we can, but not without addressing these problems — which were caused by Republicans and Democrats in the past.
That is exactly right , he is trying to prove to us that the republicans are the party of "no" The repub's may already know that . They better go in "loaded for bear" !!!!!
I'm no "neocon" (anti-Semitic code word for "Jew", you know?) and I didn't know Tom Price was Jewish, so who are you talking about? But yeah, most of the trolls who come here are adherents to and proponents of the practices of Socialism and Fascism.
I hate to end this response like this, but in Biblical Prophecy it is made abundantly clear that Israel (Jacob and Jacob's Name was then given to Joseph's two children, not Judah) are both Great Britain and America! It also is made clear that they will be subjected in the latter days to Jacob's trouble! America and Great Britain are getting closer very day! Economic collapse starts it, perhaps? Watch!
The problem is not that Republicans didn't have a few good ideas, because they do. The problem is they weren't willing to give anything up to see their ideas included… you know, compromise. Then even when their ideas were included they still would not vote for the bill on the floor. So how do you work with someone who is committed to vote as a bloc?
So help me out here:
Are you in favor of cutting Medicare – therefore "King Hussein" did a good thing?
Or are you opposed to cutting Medicare – thefore "King Hussein" did a bad thing?
I get very confused when Repbulicans argue for less government then complain about the cuts.
This is just a front for the Demons to use reconciliation to pass a bill. They will have their meeting and house and senate Demons will object to everything the pubs offer up. BO will come out and say the pubs didn't offer anything constructive and push his party to pass the plan conjoling the pubs to support it. Pubs should show up and when their proposals get rejected they should get up and walk out on camera. Tell BO the next time he wants to talk about bipartisanship, start by pointing his finger at his own party.
Don't worry Tom. Obama isn't fooling anybody with his little bipartisan pony show. People have eyes you know, but I'm not sure Obama is aware of that. He actually seems to believe that the entire population is nothing but idiots.
WeWeed- obviously you have been smoking too much. Malpractice reform? Well Tennessee passed it several years ago and guess what? Insurance rates did not drop one thin dime. The Medicare cuts were based upon the assumption the doctors would not be eating the bills for the uninsured. Hmmm. I know you need to learn the first rule in economics: there is not such thing as a free lunch. I am not saying the bill was perfect. But the Republicans demagogued the bill so badly, they cut themselves out of the debate. Death panels, anyone? Oh, and by the way, I am a Republican and I put my money where my mouth is. I pay $250,000 a year for my employees health insurance and it has gone up 100% in 5 years.
I gave you an answer in response to your claim. Hussein is a liar and a thief, just like most politicians. The fact that you're confused isn't my problem, it's yours.
No the problem is, Sarah Palin, Rusty the Chickenhawk and Glenn the Idiot demagoged the bill so the Republicans backed themselves into the corner and out of the debate. Constitutional rights being violated. What a bunch of B.S. If you do not have insurance, who do you think pays for your health care. That is right, Uncle Sam or the people with insurance. Requiring insurance is requiring responsibilty. I thought conservatives loved responsibilty. That is, until Rusty the Chickenhawk started to squak and Sarah put forth the lie of the year in "death panels".
I love this. Obama: "Let's meet for a discussion. Topic: How to pass the Senate and House bills you were shut out of."
"I'm interested in all points of view. But I won, so it's my way or the highway. Er, make that Pelosi and Reid's way, as I don't actually have a plan."
As Sam Goldwyn was to have said to patrons departing after viewing a film of his: "So, how did you love my movie?!"
Boehner, Price, and the rest of the "Rs" ought to just say "no thanks Barry, how about you just trot your ass on over to the Senate chamber, grab a seat , and wait intil we get the C-SPAN folks warmed up".
They don't have tort reform in every state and guess who blocks any attempts at the Federal level? Hey, insurance companies suck and everyone's getting soaked since 9-11, natural disasters and the huge influx of illegals are doing much of the sapping. And if you read H.R. 3200 you'd know that "death panels" wasn't much of an exaggeration. Here, the "One", finally admits to some of what they were trying to force on us;
http://realclearpolitics.blogs.time.com/2010/01/2...
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2010/01/29...
Congressman Price has fought hard on the floor of the House against the Govt. takeover of healthcare. He knows what a mess govt. intervention has already caused with medicare, etc. .. I love this line: "The American people and Republicans in Congress will not be taken by this Chicago-style politics." This is what I want to see!
AMEN
