Stopping Runaway Washington Spending One Seat at a Time
by Gov. Tim Pawlenty (R-MN)Last week, I had the honor of speaking to a robust group of conservatives in New Hampshire — and I saw a level of energy within our movement that I haven’t seen in a long time. People are fired up. And not just in the Granite State. Everywhere I travel these days, Americans are standing up and declaring themselves ready to fight for the principles and values that made this the greatest country in history – principles and values that are under attack by the Democrats in Congress and the current administration.

Today, the federal government owns or controls the nation’s largest insurance company, two of the three American auto manufacturing companies, the two entities that hold a majority of our mortgages, the entire student loan industry, wide swaths of the banking industry and now a major portion of the American health care delivery system.
Think about it. With his individual mandate, President Barack Obama and the federal government are now forcing Americans to buy a good or service simply for no other reason than they are alive. Their reform will lead to higher taxes and higher premiums – and not reduce the exploding health care costs that are the underlying problem of America’s health care system.
Let me put it bluntly: America is headed in the wrong direction.
We need to help good people running for office who understand that the federal government is overreaching and are willing to stand up and say, “Enough!” I’ve set up my Freedom First PAC to help elect those sorts of candidates to Congress this year.
The folks I’m talking with around the country tell me they’re ready to fight back against this massive expansion of the federal government. If you agree with them, I invite you to join me during my Facebook Town Hall on Wednesday night at 7:15 PM Eastern. I’m going to talk for a few minutes about some of the great candidates I’m supporting in 2010 and then I’m going to ask to hear directly from you. You’re going to get a chance to nominate conservative candidates for federal office to be enrolled in the Freedom First PAC’s fundraising program. My hope is that this program will give the grassroots unprecedented influence over the 2010 election.
I hope you will join me on Facebook Wednesday night at 7:15 PM Eastern. Bring your energy and your best ideas.

Get a firm hold on your state legislatures and your US congressmen and US senators, it's the only way we can hope to get America back!!!
Expecting wealth creation from government is like standing in a bucket and trying to lift yourself.
Even Mrs. Pawlenty couldn't get excited about this guy… but if you are looking for someone to take a poll and then do nothing, he's your man.
We need politicians that are willing to do more than that, we need politicians that are willing to seize every opportuity to reform the federal government back to the point where it has the limited role of defense, interstate commerce and interaction with other countries.
Just holding the line is political defensive which will cause us to loose by inches every year as we have for the past 70 or so.
Quit playing their game, start playing our own
Aren't you the governor of Minnesota? Why are you spending your time in New Hampshire?
I agree. Its our only chance!
Governor you seem like a nice guy, and I like many of your stances. But, we must go hard right, diametrically opposed to statist Washington. In order to defeat the welfare state is going to require resolve, iron grit, true American idealism, too espouse conservatism without apology ala Ronald Reagan. The reach across the aisle candidate John McCain, or Compassionate Conservatism with “W”, left this country exposed from a vicious attack from the parasitic left. With all due respect sir, you don’t seem mean enough to defeat Barry and his band of ‘60s radicals, we must roar back into power.
I like it.
Did you notice that the politicians during the "Crisis" that got Obama elected kept telling us we needed to dig ourselves out of this hole?
That used to be a joke, I assume someone finally caught on becasue they stopped using it but it points to the self inflicted ignorance of the political class and their followers.
The state legislatures are the key, get a hold on them get a renewed hold on the constitution!!!
If you try to dig yourself out of a hole you end up in China. I think that's their idea.
I agree with your position Stan, but I dont think you need to be mean, just honest, direct and unapologetic.
Put the left on the defensive, it's easy enough to do because everything they have tried that has followed their ideology has failed miserably.
I am too busy holding onto my guns and my Bible… /sarc
The voice or retardation has been absent for some time. Must have been a professional mens room attendant convention in town, and I am not talking about the guys that hand out towels and mints.
So now the tax payers of America have to find new candidates to replace the progressive politicians in office, and we need to do a "Holmes on Homes" or "This Old Republican" style remodel on the politicians that give us hope they can be fixed up.

It will take time and effort but I am confident that we can get spending and the size of government under control. Foreign countries are asking us to get back on track because they realize what a strong America means for the world, and I'd sure like to grant their request.
Every time the "**president" says; "by cutting out the middle man…" hold on to your purse ladies!!!
A little Winston Churchill, I like it
I want to thank you for coming here to share your thoughts. For me you remind me of another great Republican leader. His name was Ronald Reagan. He shared the same views, and initiatives, and economic policies, that will allow U.S. all to prosper once again. Keeping more of what you earn is freedom.
Keep taking the message to the people.
Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened.
Our polarized society increasingly ponders what would happen if American conservatives and liberals simply agreed that their differences had become irreconcilable, and redivided the nation to go their separate ways. Which side would prosper and experience an influx of migration from the other? Conversely, which side would likely become a fiscal and socio-political basket case?
Any reasonable person already knows the likely answer. One need only compare the smoldering wreckage wrought by liberal governance in such states as California or Michigan with the comparative prosperity created by conservative governance in such states as Texas or Utah. We can also examine the past 400 years, during which immigrants abandoned Europe for an America founded upon the fundamental principles of limited government and individual freedom.
Regardless, the above hypothetical has become increasingly frequent among both conservatives and liberals in recent years.
Following the 2004 election that they confidently expected would vindicate their 2000 rage and send President Bush back to Texas, liberals only half-jestfully proposed that “blue” states secede and join a new “United States of Canada.” Conservatives replied with a collective, “don’t let the screen door hit you in the [posterior] on your way out.”
Now, with this week’s passage of ObamaCare despite ferocious and widespread public opposition, the faint reverberations from that restive elephant in the room became even more pronounced. Consider the words of Dennis Prager, an intellectual whom no serious observer would label a bomb-thrower:
We are in a non-violent civil war. I write the words ‘civil war’ with an ache in my heart. But we are in one. Thank God this civil war is non-violent.
Whom-Ever We Vote into Congress"" MUST "" be for """"TERM-LIMITS"""" For the SAME>>>>>>Government Of and For The People….
Yes. States need to re-assert their rights and resist assimilation.
If you do not exercise your right to remove your congressmen through voting you can't complain. If we all pull together we can do this. Try to get others to pull with us.

We need a national holiday, I suggest a Ronald Reagan holiday here in the U.S.
This should be our economic game plan for our future.

NObama is President of the USA. Why is he in Indonesia, Copenhagen, etc…

Well if you're looking for someone to take a poll(on healthcare, crap&tax, etc.) and then ignore the peoples will, doing the exact opposite of their will, then BHO must be your man.Hi mika. ;^) +Hanzo+
Not to get too far off topic but your summery judgement about Mary Pawlenty is flawed, at least according to Anna and Mara Pawlenty.
Perhaps the only real concern you have about Tim is that he is for small government. Not the government that will take over every aspect of life and provide a warm comfortable blankie to keep the democrats cuddled while they suck on the government's teat from cradle to grave.
I'd rather have the strong independent America where the federal government gets out of my life and gets it's hands off my pocket book. Tim should have a chance to run, let his voice be heard and may the best win. We should set the bar high. No matter that Berry is the worst president America has had in 100 years, we should avoid another Jimmy Carter.
State legislatures are extremely important this time. However, they should always be important. We need to win many more Secretary of State offices too.
I agree with your position stan, and I think you're right on being mean, honest, direct and unapologetic.
Put the left on the defensive with offensive behavior, HAH! It's about time they get their own tactics shoved right back in their pompous faces. ;^) +Hanzo+
We "may" actually need the con/con to restore liberty and we MUST elect state legislative members that aren't afraid to exercise that authority!
Return to local accountability! Repeal the 17th!
SoS positions will also be needed but so many of them serve at the behest of the governors instead of the governed that many will just resist such efforts and dismiss them!
Hey Hanzo.
Polls are important, but we can't govern using a poll on every issue. And the most important poll is the one we took in Nov. 2008. As for health care reform, I never believed the polls were a true reflection of American public opinion. Even when support for the bill dipped to 39 percent, 13 percent of those opposed were people on the left who demanded a public option or universal Medicare. We had not all suddenly joined the teaparty to defeat the bill. We will see how the polling changes between now and the elections in November, but my guess is that people will not want to go backwards, and any modifications to reform will be to improve it, not to kill it.
I hope the Republicans run Pawlenty against Obama in 2012. He will say one thing in the primary and then pivot to try and win some moderates in the general and he will be lucky to get as many votes as McCain did. He is boxing himself into a position where he will have to run on the side of the insurance companies and Democrats will have a field day with him. And the teapeople are our secret weapon.
I don't see any potential Republicans who aren't severely flawed or hopelessly boring like our MN governor friend here.
100% on target, the state legislatures and gubernatorial authority to make senate appointments are the key to winning!
TAKE IT BACK AMERICA!!!
We must expose and expel all the socialist progressives in 2010 and 2012. If you refuse to get off your ass and pitch in; leave and don't come back. You are a parasite and you don't belong here living off of those who work to make America great.
Thanks to the STUPAK 8 we will be more in debt….. We need to mibilize the tea party and make it a ORGANIZATION…. not a bunch of meetings with NO FIGUREHEAD!!!! we need to get these BUMS out of office….
Hey! The "teapeople" are our secret weapon also! I thought you wanted BHO to win? The "teapeople" are gonna' make sure BHO and his minions go down to a flaming defeat! +Hanzo+
Mika, politicians of every stripe, but especially demonrats, are poll watchers everyday. Now what they do with that information, or if they choose to ignore it outright, is another point. +Hanzo+
I'm counting on the support of the teaparty for right wing candidates to repulse the moderate voters who have been mistreated by the insurance companies since 1971. Your only hope is that the economy doesn't rebound before next year.
Bowing to everyone he meets, no less.Seems like he should be bowing to them from behind, dosen't it? So that he can kiss their ass. +Hanzo+
So your answer is dump the sick people, seniors, unemployed and veterans to fend for themselves while the rich get richer?
So you consider the sick, poor, unemployed, seniors and veterans as parasites huh? And while the rich get ridher at their expense? The right are so corrupt it is beyond imagination!
Scott Brown anyone? +Hanzo+
Stop sending BILLIONS of dollars to Israel every year? How hard is this to understand?
It was Scott Brown that united the Democrats to pass health care reform. We couldn't have done it without him. Now he has to try and walk that fine line of supporting his caucus and still getting reelected in 2012. He has already supported the majority on a jobs bill.
No. Simple as that.
"When the seagulls follow the trawler it is because they think fish will drop into the sea."
Aren't you a liberal? Why are you spending your time posting inane comments on conservative blogs?
Have a nice day.
mika, demonrats were hardly united on healthcare. It took a great deal of arm twisting and outright bribery to pass the legislation.Does any of this bother you?
My example of Brown was to show you that the only hope for conservatives is not for the economy to tank.People voted for him because they wanted to send a message to aWashington.I think you know what that message was.
Unfortunately, the economy is more than likely going to accelerate its downward spiral.Inflation is kicking, money is printing, the commercial real estate market is toppling, the 5-year arm's are coming up for adjustments, dosen't look good.Especially with a bald-faced Commie/Fascist in office. +Hanzo+
So you nitpick his comments to make him sound like some type of nihilistic bastard?
Refusing to get up and do something is far different from being unable to do something.
So, we're not crazy–lots of other people think Obama and his administration are out of their f-ing minds.
http://peterseanesq.blogspot.com/
Bother me? I've been demanding it for over a year. Politics is a contact sport and not for children or the feint of heart. If you don't want your arm twisted you need to find another line of work.
I know what the message was and I know what the results were… health care reform. And a reform of college loans to sweeten the pot. Next we will move to financial reform, immigration reform and energy policy legislation. This is just the beginning, and Scott Brown is not going to be a reliable vote for the Republican caucus.
The March job numbers are going to be much better than last month and the economy is going to begin to heat up this spring. As for inflation… historically, inflation hasn't been a factor as long as we are at less than full economic capacity. We still have a ways to go before inflation becomes a factor, and it will be dealt with when it becomes a problem. One crisis at a time…
I’d love too read the rest of that article, it was a great tease.
Timmy, as long as you keep drinking the AGW Kool-Aid, you have no credibility.
I've seen this proposal before… divide the country up into the northern United States of Canada and the southern Jesusland. Problem is, even in a red state like Texas there are 30 percent of us who are not part of the right wing…. that's 7 million folks. We are bigger than most states and have no intention of moving. Same problem in reverse in California.
Timmy's still buying that AGW crap. I wouldn't put much faith in his judgement, or commitment.
[...] just read an article by Tim Pawlenty, the Republican Governor of Minnesota at Andrew Breitbart’s Big Government. [...]
When Timmy grows a pair, he can get back to us. He's still an AGW believer. Pathetic!
Right, one crisis at a time, never waste any of them, right? Too bad the "crises" are artificially created, with more to come from the resulting "fixes". I'm really being facetious when I feign that a progressive would care about ethics in politics, or about profligate, out-of-control spending.Just print more money, eh?
Dosen't matter if the job numbers go "up"(more doublespeak denoting less of a loss), unemployment will continue to rise.Inflation WILL become even more of a factor as the money supply increases.
You really, truly CANNOT point out one positive aspect about the economy that will work out in BHO's favor, he's failing miserably, and on all fronts, not just the economy.
Watch the scarecrow twist in the wind. ;^) +Hanzo+
Pawlenty is just another RINO. Take your pick – John McCain, Lindsay Grahmnesty, Tim Pawlenty. He might be a conservative in MN but that is the same state that elected Al Franken and Jesse Ventura.
You fans of Pawlenty give me the thumbs down – it won't change the facts that you choose to ingnore about him.
The conservatives have always given more of their income to the sick and those that are unable to help themselves than progressives have. Progressives want to steal our money and disburse as they see fit (and to guarantee votes). If you are unemployed get off your butt and get a job. If the job is flipping burgers and you need two of those to pay your bills, guess what – work 16 hours a day. I don't owe you a living. There are many seniors who are very well off. Those that aren't should have their family help them and if they don't have a family and are handicapped or otherwise ACTUALLY incapable of helping themselves, then we can help them.
Reform your own state first! Then I will listen to more of what you say!
I point out the employment numbers because this election is going to be about jobs. The economy can be percolating along with a six percent growth rate, but if there are no jobs then the incumbents lose. Falling unemployment and Dems maintain control of the house and senate. It really is that simple.
Rumor has it there is no individual mandate, that it was a scam to placate insurance companies. Now that pre-existing conditions must be covered with no enforcement if people don't insure, those private insurance companies are going out of business in 3…2….1….leaving your friendly Barack and his government apparatus to insure the entire US of A. Creepy.
"And a reform of college loans to sweeten the pot. Next we will move to financial reform, "And a reform of college loans to sweeten the pot. Next we will move to financial reform, immigration reform and energy policy legislation."
Boy, you really, really REALLY hate America, don't you?
Hope you enjoy crow, because that's going to be your steady diet from November on. You seem to forget what really got your leftwing Prez elected- lying about who he was.
You are one angry person… I know you are just venting but it is music to me. It means we are on the right path for America.
Jobs always lag growth… always have and always will.
how about the 500 billion we give to Egypt, for a start?
<sigh>
Oh, no, you are manifestly the angry one, since you joyously back the passage of legislation not because it has any merit, but simply because it wil piss off Americans, whom you so hate.
But the nasty political truth is that Obama and Pelosi used up every bribe and threat in their arsenal just to get half a healthcre bioll passed- witout their precious public option. They got nothin'- nothing left with which to shift Dem congressmen in blue and purple districts staring an election in the face.
I think you oversimplify Pawlenty and the stand he will/would take.
I am glad that the Democrats have the same condescending and arrogant attitude as you…which is why Obamao will lose in 2012 to someone to be named.
You know the good thing is that you have choices, and the freedom to chose the places to live. I believe that is called the power of choice. God bless, and good luck.
BHO,……………pole watcher,……………. no way,…………he is a pole vaulter though.
Seeing how,…. "it was Bush's fault" has worn out,………..now,…………..
let's use,…….."Jobs always lag growth",…………and see,………….
how long we have to use that one,………..ay Mickey???????
T-Paw has been a lousy governor and his record in Minnesota will speak for itself.
Quite the opposite is true. Democrats are fired up for the first time in months and we have the teapeople and Scott Brown to thank.
By the way, winning is really fun. So thanks.
That's exactly what I was going to post,……………..where was this empty suit when,………….
Franken was stealing a senate seat,…………..?????/
Not an excuse, just an economic fact. But if you can point out a recovery where unemployment came down before positive economic growth began I would be very interested to see it…. ralphy
We still have a lot hurdles to jump, before we get were we are going. View this clip, and you will see why I said that.
Obama supporters let there hair down.
If you want to see the average Obama supporter, take a look at this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRgB2eeHZEw
Pawlenty doesn't sound bad to me. Give him a break. Sure he isn't throwing out juicy red meat like Glen Beck or Sarah Paylin, but is that really what we need in a president anyway? He sound like a fairly strong Fiscal Conservative who wants to oppose and reverse the Obama agenda. That is pretty good. I'm willing to listen to him and give him a chance. Some specifics I'd like to hear though, like will he tirelessly work for repeal of Obamacare? And will he try to cut costs for other entitlements, like Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid? Until I see firm promisses on those points, he won't get my support.
You are such a dumbass…j
Ha ha……..maybe he's a polesmoker, ewww. ;^) +Hanzo+
Aren't you the chief executive of the state of sen. al franken, what happened there?
Now now, mika.Of course jobs follow growth, how could it be otherwise?
Just another factor against BHO.How long do you think it'll take for this admin of complete and total Marxist amateurs to turn growth numbers black again? How about NEVER!!!!!
How in the world would a logical person believe that Marxist/Fascist economic policies are going to promote a healthy economy in a Federal Representative Republic?
Ohh….never mind.Answered my own question.+Hanzo+
500 billion to Egypt? Anything to back that up? We give aid to Egypt BECAUSE we give aid to Israel – why is everyone here ignorant about the Camp David Accords???? Oh, that's right, because ignorant people are easy to manipulate.
"Think about it. With his individual mandate, President Barack Obama and the federal government are now forcing Americans to buy a good or service simply for no other reason than they are alive."
The government forces people to buy clothes merely because they are alive. They will go so far as to arrest people who go without clothes. So this is nothing new.
The economy grew at an annual rate of 5.6 percent in the forth quarter of 2009. Economists are expecting similar results in the first quarter of 2010 even after the snowstorms we had in February… so economic growth is already here. Now it is just a matter of when, not if, the unemployment number starts coming down.
People will start spending soon out of necessity, and with that spending comes greater consumer confidence. The recession is almost a year and a half old and stuff is wearing out. That is how most recessions end.
"A Democratic senator I can’t name, who reluctantly voted for the health-care bill out of loyalty to his party and his admiration for Barack Obama, privately complained to me that the measure was political folly, in part because of the way it goes into effect: some taxes first, most benefits later, and rate hikes by insurance companies in between.
Besides that, this Democrat said, people who already have coverage will feel threatened and resentful about helping to cover the uninsured—an emotion they will sanitize for the polltakers into a concern about federal spending and debt.
On the day the president signed into law the “fix-it” addendum to the massive health-care measure, two new polls show just how fearful and skeptical Americans are about the entire enterprise. If the numbers stay where they are—and it’s not clear why they will change much between now and November—then the Democrats really are in danger of colossal losses at the polls."
–Howard Fineman (no conservative he).
Typical of a loser such as yourself to proclaim victory. Enjoy the setting sun. It's over, well over, but then again it never had a chance to last…move to Haiti, sport. You will fit right in. Who knows, you could be the next president there.
Certainly the Left has been *setting* fires, on campuses across America….
Swagger it, swagger it, my little Marxist! Continue to spend the next
seven months in your reality-distortion bubble, and pay no attention to
the approaching pitchforks. You have my permission to persuade yourself
that Americans don't really hate leftists' guts.
BTW, who \”won?\” The ravening State, nobody else.
If this is losing I'll take it every time. In America winning still counts.
The teapeople and their insurance buddies lost and the American people won. And we are just getting started.
Where are you getting that info?If I'm not mistaken, that's not even close to correct. And to blame the lull in spending on the snowstorm is preposterous. The slowdown had already kicked in even amidst the already dismal holiday season.
You are not that ignorant of this issue, surely.People are already spending out of necessity. They only buy items that are absolutely neccessary to survive.People are saving, not spending. What does that tell you about consumer confidence.People will continue to spend to the lowest level possible(buying offbrand or cheaper made items), because they have no confidence in the current admin.
+Hanzo+
Lessee- less and more expensive healthcare, and higher taxes for all. Oh, yeah, and the nationalization of the student loan industry.
Up next: cap-n-tax, card check and amnesty, further phases in the planned demolition of the American economy.
Did you get beat up by a bigger kid wearing a stars and stripes T-shirt? Is that why you want to destroy this country so much?
What part are you disputing? The forth quarter numbers from last year came in at 5.9 percent growth, then were lowered a bit on Mar 26th to 5.6.
Google it.
Get ready, we're coming…
[...] Timmy boy, go home, please. You sound like McCain, Huckabee, Romney, Bush II, Clinton, Bush I, and Carter. I have listened to this crap for almost 6 decades, and it doesn’t change. A politician is always sure they, or another, is the solution to the crap politicans emit quicker than a cow on Ex-Lax. [...]
Die Fahne hoch…
Even right wing nazis won't stop us.
Just replace the wording with "by allowing the government total control"
