The Hijacking of Conservatism by Big Government Progressives
by Tad LumpkinHey conservatives, are you there?
No I don’t mean you Republicans…I mean those of you who are lovers of liberty! I mean those of you who defend the Constitution, not just when it protects them but when it protects someone they don’t like. I know you’re out there. You may be a Libertarian or an independent, you may not be affiliated with any party at all. Ok you might be a Republican too, but I know you’re there.
Well listen up!
I am not exactly sure at what moment the theft of the word “conservative” actually occurred, but I know it has happened. Through the rapid expansion of the size and role of government over the last 100 years the progressives not only infiltrated the Democrats but they infiltrated the Republicans too. They took over words like “liberal” and “conservative.” In fact, if you go back far enough “liberal” used to mean “conservative” until they stole that word. Then all the people who loved freedom found a new home as conservatives, and the progressives came to steal that too.
You see, that is what they do. Progressives are wolves in whatever clothes they need to wear to fool everyone about what their actual agenda is. The reason they do this is because their real agenda is so antithetical to the mission statement of America that most Americans would marginalize the people who espouse these ideas if they knew who they were. Unfortunately, America’s awareness has been dulled by years of addiction to the graft of big government.
If we are not only to survive but thrive as a nation we must separate the progressives who hate freedom from the conservatives that love it. Only then will we know who’s who.
How do we do that? Well conservatives love the Constitution, so let’s start there.
The First Amendment guarantees the freedom of speech–not just the speech you like but the speech you don’t, as well. Ripping from the headlines, let’s look at the WikiLeaks saga. You may not like what Julian Assange is saying, but those who want to peg him as a terrorist who should be hunted down and jailed or even executed, as some have yelled, is no lover of freedom or the Constitution.
This guy is no terrorist; he is an activist. The only difference between him and a less controversial activist is that he threatens to expose the dirty laundry of many elements of power around the world–including our own government. Now, the people who are breaking the law to give him this information may be criminals… OR maybe they are just whistleblowers who, because they work for the government, are held to a different standard. Either way, WikiLeaks has broken no law of the United States.
The Fourth Amendment gives us protection from warrantless search or seizures. Again, how many people are yelling that they are conservatives and yet are telling you its okay if the government reads all your emails, listens to your phone calls, tracks your financial transactions, searches your private property? And government can do this without a warrant because we are at “war with terror”. They tell you if you are doing nothing wrong you have nothing to fear. The thing you need to fear is them!
I fear that while protesting my needless full body scan and groping by the TSA, I will end up on the governments “no no” list where I will be distracted by an IRS audit as the Department of Homeland Security puts a GPS tracker on my car parked in my garage. These actions do not keep you safe, but they will keep you in line. Giving up your liberty for security is a false logic that is used over and over to medicate people into a coma of silence. To quote Ben Franklin “He who gives up his liberty for security deserves neither.”
The imposters call for free markets and small government, but they interfere at every turn. They support an out of control Federal Reserve system that undermines the entire idea of a free marketplace by having monopolistic control over the US monetary supply. The Fed can print unlimited amounts of money which they pass out to whatever the “preferred” special interests of the day are in total secrecy. These imposters expand bloated government programs like Genghis Kahn expanded the Mongolian Empire. Wasn’t it a “so called” conservative that gave us a multi billion dollar expansion in Medicare just a few years ago? Aren’t true conservatives for no debt and low taxes?
The reason we have big debts is because we have big government. It’s all too big! There isn’t an element of it that isn’t too big. If someone looks you in the face and tells you they are going to balance the budget and shrink the debt and it doesn’t include a wholesale, across the board cut-back in the size of government in every last area, they are no conservative. In addition, there’s not one single excuse to vote for ANY net tax increase, not for a conservative anyway. A progressive, they always need more, but not a conservative.
The point of listing out some of these things is to remind you of what the word “conservative” is supposed to embody. If people say or do things that don’t uphold a strict interpretation of the Constitution and the message of individual liberty, they are not a conservative, but rather an imposter. In the reverse, if they don’t uphold these conservative values then they don’t uphold the Constitution, and they don’t love liberty.
This is America, and people are allowed to have different opinions about what they think is best and freely espouse those opinions, but give me an honest socialist any day over a dishonest progressive. I’ll disagree with the socialist but give them respect; the progressive deserves no respect.
We must hold people accountable for doing what they say. That doesn’t mean you’re perfect or that you can’t ever change your mind, but it does mean you honor your words with your actions! You do what you say, and you say what you do. If politicians, leaders, and pundits don’t uphold the above I can’t tell you exactly what they are, but I can tell you they are no conservative.

I hope that this new batch of Tea Party conservative / libertarians doesn't turn out to be like any other second marriage, ie the 1994 Gingrich Revolution or the GOP majority of the early 2000s, which is to say, the triumph of hope over experience.
With 60+ new seats in the House and Senate and a whack of Dem Senators up for re election in 2012, lets hope the New Kids In Town do in fact pull the country to the right, even as their "leadership" tries to forge "bipartisan compromise for the good of the country"…..
The first orders of business should be to send up repeal of ObamaCare legislation for a weekly veto, defunding of the EPA and TSA.
Perhaps a good strategy might be for Sarah Palin to take the brunt of the hatred of the left and the media (which is two ways of saying one thing) while the House quietly goes about its business……
I been here all along. We need to keep proving to most people that they too are 'Conservative', and either don't understand what it means, or just want to reject the label.
Time to re-read "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin,eh?
"Giving up your liberty for security is a false logic that is used over and over to medicate people
into a coma of silence."
Beautifully articulated Mr Lumpkin.
It's almost time to fight back…
; )
True the progs have invaded the republican party, which espouses to be a conservative in nature. However, true conservatives see them for what they are and have tagged them as rinos or worse. Yet, the very old boys club of the repubs(RNC) is wher the established rinos and progressives are camped. To improve the party and get it refocused on truly conservative ideas and policies will take us until at least 2016 to clean out the trash.
After that we go for the progressive socialists in the dim party. Boy Oh boy, will that be a chore; but I feel America and the people can handle the challenge.
somebody forgot to take his meds today …
reading everyones emails ? gps tracker on your car ? IRS audit for protesting a TSA patdown ?
If believing this sort of nonsense makes one a "conservative" then please take me off the list … fortunately I don't think that the word means what you think it means …
Pundits who tells me that both sides of the aisle are exactly the same when anyone with a braincell can see that there are distinct differences can't be taken seriously …
You managed to forget to mention the black helicopters …
Concerning "privacy rights:" Consider the "garbage exception." He who puts garbage out at the curb has ceded his property rights over it, and therefore his privacy rights over it. The same applies to the emission of a signal from one's home, unless the carrying agency has contractually guaranteed to keep it private. This is at the heart of any "reasonable expectation of privacy."
In a transaction conducted in public, what expectation of privacy do you have? If a third party is present, it should be zero. In a transaction with a government agency, such as a public library, what expectation of privacy is reasonable?
Whatever degree of privacy you may want, the privacy you can rightfully claim is determined by the extent of your property and by others' binding commitments to you. All else is fantasy.
If we don't see the kind of actions from the House that we voted for, what I expect from our Tea Party candidates is that they openly and publicly break from the GOP leadership. They will need to get out in front of the cameras and state that the reason real conservative reform is not taking place is because of the establishment, RINO leadership that will not allow it to go forward.
That should be all it takes to ignite a firestorm of pressure on the old-guard republicans from the millions of us who have simply had enough.
Almost there.
I am not a pretty sight when I get fighting mad.
Many Tea Partiers no longer judge politicians by their self-proclaimed labels or their words, but by their actions. Only when there is a history of conservative actions will we believe them.
Communist Coward Holder says Black Panther case was "made up"
http://jammiewearingfool.blogspot.com/2010/12/hol...
Yes, there are Republican Progressives. They need to be identified, rooted out, and sent to the dust-bin of history!
Obama's peasant agenda:
Enrich the poor, by making the wealthy work harder!
Look folks –this is like weeding the garden AND taking out the suckers! Suckers are shoots that come off some plants, sap their strength, but produce nothing. If we take the weeds and suckers out of OUR garden (GOVERNMENT), it will be good and productive. HOLD YOUR GOVERNMENT ACCOUNTABLE!
Anyone who takes an oath of office to uphold the Constitution and then does everything they can to destroy it should be charged with a crime and thrown in jail. So in my perfect world every progressive would be behind bars.
Ohh the proggies what a bunch of loons. Funny the ones on the republicant side think they were saved after Nov 2. They dont get it that everyone is on 2 yr probation it seems they need to be reminded as we approach the new year… Warning To The "New Blood"
Ya know guys I dont think many of them are taking us seriously! Their arrogance blinds them and dont see the hell waiting for them if they dont stop this sick progressive dream. This is our country you politicians work for us. You all better make drastic changes even if the boy king vetos every move. All you "Scott Browns" better watch your '6' we know who you are… McCaine, Graham….
56 men, our Founding Fathers, had the guts to stand up and do what’s right, what about you? http://www.savingtherepublic.com
ALMOST THERE.;…….LOL, me too scotsirish…
I ain't very purdy either, when I'm fightin' mad…
HAPPY NEW YEAR, one and all!!!
.
Yes!
'Liberty and Tyranny' by Mark Levin. ~ Love that book! and love Mark Levin. He's a great patriot, and does a lot for America every day! I expect he will be great support for the new House of Representatives as they carve the new path back to a Constitutional Republic for U.S., and rid America of those who wish to destroy our Culture & Freedoms.
I've discovered lately that many people's version of conservatism turns on their own view of what's "right or wrong" and not a standard set of inalienable principles. They're conservative because they're pro-life or don't think the government should take so many taxes. The Tea Party movement is teaching us what the Constitution really means.
It kind of a simple Business Plan. Just make a list of the negative forces in America today, and eliminate them:
1- Marxists, Socialists, Communists, Globalists, & anyone who wants to Fundamentally Transform America!
2- Muslim extremists
3- Public Unions
4- Size of Government. Chop it in HALF! Disband half of the Govt Agencies & Half of the Govt Regulations!
5- Special groups who demand preference. No.We're all equal Americans
6- Racism. If you identify yourself by skin pigment, or ethnicity, rather than qualifications you are not an equal American. You want to have preference. No. That's not how America works.
7- Illegal Trespasser Aliens. Illegal is Illegal. Leave and fill out an application
8- Government employees who refuse to enforce our Laws! (most of the present Administration)and many in congress.
9- Government Officials who sue States as Obama & Holder did , and/or report America to the U.N! like Hillary Clinton
10- Anyone who refuses to act according to the will of "We the People!" immediately!
Conservatives will win because we have more kids than liberals. And 80% of kids who have conservative parents are conservative themselves.
Happy New Year, OCP! May 2011 bring us some relief from the Obama regime! I'm ready and raring to welcome in the new year. Champagne will be flowing at Midnight …. (and, of course, before)!
It really is just…that…easy!
The progs in the Republican party are called RINOs… and they are still at the top of the hunting list for 2012!
Right.. We're also a big Country and if you eliminate the Commies in New York with Mayor "mosque loving" Bloomberg, and California, and Illinois, the rest of the Country is the REAL Constitutionalist America! Who's going to argue with U.S! Not now. Not now after we've been oppressed and tortured by a ferocious Bully like Obama the marxist muslim! and his gang! No way. We are roaring back! ~ Cup 'oTea anyone?
Right! It's called Treason,! Dereliction of Duty,! Failure to uphold OATH of Office, and Abuse of Office! Prosecute! and fast. We have a Country to clean out and restore!
I hope they all have the guts to do that. I'm so upset with what is going with the RNC chairman candidates right now.
I'm worried about the freshman class of Republicans in the 112th Congress.
I know that to fix this mess will take us a long time to do so since the Progs are so entrenched in both parties and in all ofo gov't, and I know that we will likely suffer some setbacks.
But if BOTH parties are so far gone that the Republican Party is incapable of listening to the people and changing their ways, then I fear we are doomed without more drastic action, which I always speak out against, at least at this time.
We can probably afford a little setback here and there, but no big ones, otherwise we will be lost.
Bring the troops home or declare war wherever they are deployed, then cut military spending.
Raise the age of SS and means test both SS and medicare.
Get rid of ALL targeted tax cuts, including child, marriage and home owner and have a flat tax.
Abolish the IRS.
That guy, Holder, is in the top three that should be prosecuted first! I think he's broken more Federal Laws than imaginable.
He dropped an obvious Voter Intimidation case against two video taped Black Panthers. Also, from the testimony of two other Attorneys in the DOJ, he stated that racism is only valid for black people. It does not apply to white people. Really? I saw two self named "Black Panthers" intimidating everyone with batons!
Holder sued Arizona! Holder insisted on trying KSM in civil Court instead of a Military tribunal. etc. etc.
Obama refuses to enforce our EXISTING Federal Immigration Law to deport ALL Illegal Aliens! Obama appointed a Communist Dr. Barwick during recess. Sneaky. Obama passed Major Socialist Legislation without once allowing the Republicans to have any input! This went on for two years, Bill after Bill!
Clinton Reported the US to the UN! What? yesshe did!
Obama partnered up with 11 Latino Countries to go before the 9th Circuit to further sue innocent Arizona!
A President gathers up Foreign Countries to bring law suits against America?! Prosecxute!
Obama agrees on Treaty with Russia to weaken Our Defenses! Disgrace!
Some of us have already infiltrated California, too…
Can we really clean out the RNC? I mean, we had 2 years of telling them that they were in our sights as much as the Dems were and yet the people they are putting forth to run the RNC are just deplorable – people that support Obamacare and think it's CONSTITUTIONAL!
Have they really heard us or are we just speaking into the wind?
Are we going to have to do more than rallies?
That is my concern.
Moby.
Liberalism is a brain disease. It eats away at the centers of logic. It prevents that individual from forming an independent thought. It makes them spend other peoples money at light speed. It makes their tongue wag incessantly, imitating speech but only jibberish comes out. They lose any concept of right and wrong and it immerses them into a consistent pattern of compulsive lying. It makes them hold in all farts. When those farts build up enough pressure, they travel up the spine to what is left of the brain and produce shitty ideas. There is no cure.
Arm yourselves with the truth, fight this scourge with every ounce of courage EVERY DAY. America is at war from within and without. Make no mistake about it. Just because the enemies of America don't use guns and bombs doesn't mean they aren't the enemy. The war against Progressives, Socialists and Communists did not end with the wall coming down. It has continued unabated and so far they are winning. The truth in this article should make you shudder and shake. The worst is yet to come and it may come to guns and bombs. If we stand up and fight now instead of watch this whole thing like a Hollywierd movie, it won't come to that. Complacency got us here. Now what are we going to do about it?
My agreement depends upon what you mean by the "message of indvidual liberty." The Founding Fathres believed in "ordered liberty." They did not support liberty that had crossed the line into licentiousness. They advocated a balance between liberty and responsiblity.
As to the Wikileaks she-male, Assange is a spy pure and simple. He may not have stolen the information but his acitons constitutes a war upon the United States and American interests around the world. The only difference is that apparently he does not work for a foreign power. The service member who provided him with the information should be shot as a traitor.
Jefferson became a Christian when he grew older.
That's good news.
New York is beginning to be challenged too, with a slowly turning tide because of Mayor "mosque loving" Bloomberg, and Schumer, Gillibrand, Weiner, and the other Socialist bullies in the NY,
Illegal Alien cesspool.
People are tired of the incestuous dirty deals with the Islamists, and are also against the "Partnership for a New Economy in America" which is Bloombergs proposed Bill to grant Amnesty PLUS ObamaCare, to Illegals. So I guess we can change these Radical States as we go along.
It will be slow but I'm hoping to hear '76 Trombones' by the next election cycle!
I'm purdier when I'm fighting' mad! Bet you are, too. :^D I will be toasting you a Happy New Year tonight, friend.
Agreed! RINOs are the bane of our legislative existance right now! Every vote counts as we take back our Country, and investigate and prosecute these crominal elected officials!
Give.
Me.
Liberty.
Screw the death part, I'll just take the bastards down with me! I want MY CONSTITUTION.
NOW!!!
Fantastic post, Tad.
I myself am fiscally conservative, small government, but socially liberal. I sometimes take some heat for that last bit on this site…but I think that interpretation of the Constitution (when needed, it's really not all that confusing, Ezra) should err on the side of freedom – even when we disagree with what people do with that freedom.
And I'll be sending a toast to you as well at straight up 12!!!
Do you have the blackeye peas and cabbage ready for tomorrow?
I'm eatin' double 'cause I figure we can never have too much GOOD LUCK or GREEN!!!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to all! ;-D
.
Thanks a million Hobbes, and HAPPY NEW YEAR to you as well.
May we all begin 2011 with an entirely new outlook!
;-D
The Hispanics are out-breeding everybody else by a huge margin. That's why the Dems are willing to risk our safety to secure their vote, now and forever.
I like that thought that conservatives are out-multiplying liberals!
FRANCES FOX PIVEN CALLS FOR VIOLENT REVOLUTION
http://www.theblaze.com/stories/frances-fox-piven...
This article articulates an historic struggle, going back in time, to the beginning of our Government. Back to the first Washington Administration. The struggle between the philosophies of George Washington and Alexander Hamilton and the "Federalists" and the philosophies of Thomas Jefferson and James Madison and the "Republicans".
Until one understands those two different philosophies, the meat of this article will escape them.
I love the Flat Tax! and eliminating all the other taxes that you mentioned! and Yes abolish the IRS!
I guess it's making you crazy to see that "brain dead puppet" Janet Napolitano trapsing around Afghanistan with US Border Patrol Agents, on New Years Eve, to secure the Borders in Afghanistan!
when Obama has ordered her NOT to secure our U.S. Borders! WE ARE NOT SAFE!
The Obama marxist Administration, and Unions want those 30Million Illegal uneducated Aliens so bad , to use for their first big Communist Army and voting block, that they have allowed the U.S. to be be IN HARMS WAY for TWO solid years! Sickening isn't it?!
I thought that the progressive movement touted itself as the alternative to communism, thereby implying that they were more conservative. This was just a clever way to become more acceptable to the majority of Americans who weren't buying the commie BS. It worked pretty well, until now.
"but give me an honest socialist any day over a dishonest progressive"
"Honest socialist" is an oxymoron and "dishonest progressive" is redundant.
Nonsense! A Scot with blue paint on his face is totally Hot! FREEDOM!!
No blackeye peas. I don't believe in luck. I believe in strategy.
Would the English of 1776 have referred to the Americans as Conservative?
"WikiLeaks has broken no law of the United States."
How about
"[18 U.S.C. 793(e), which provides:
"Whoever having unauthorized possession of, access to, or control over any document, writing, code book, signal book, sketch, photograph, (etc. etc.) relating to the national defense, ... (which) the possessor has reason to believe could be used to the injury of the United States or to the advantage of any foreign nation, willfully communicates (etc. etc) the same to any person not entitled to receive it, or willfully retains the same (etc) ...
"Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both." ] or,
18 USC 641, which provides that any person who "receives" or "retains" a "thing of value of the United States" knowing "it to have been embezzled, stolen, purloined or converted" is also guilty of a felony, punishable by up to ten years in prison.
It is pointed out in the rest of the fine article I quote here,
"LIKE A CONDOM, THE FIRST AMENDMENT CAN'T ALWAYS PROTECT YOU"
http://www.anncoulter.com/cgi-local/article.cgi?a...
that there are others.
Please read the article, it is a fine example of necessary limits on the First Amendment.

One way is not to donate. Another is to ensure real conservatives are elected. Eventually the establishment rinos disappear or go over to the progressives from whence they came.
"Would the English of 1776 have referred to the Americans as Conservative?"
No the British referred to the fifty four founding fathers as 'radical revolutionaries', this is an historical fact by the way, too bad they no longer teach this in public school.
You can look it it up though…. on the still free so far internet…..
Do have blue paint ON. Cannot toast with the real stuff (genetic-Celtic problem) as loosing control at this time would not put whites of eyes directly on point YET.
Blackeyed peas, cabbage, and pepper hot cornbread are a given.
Y'all drink one for me. I will be the designated guard.
Well… I used to live in Lynn Woolsey district. Now it's Mike Thompson, which is (slightly) better. At least nobody has heard of him.
How's about a Constitutional convention? One called by the states.
Scotsirish, you say? One set of my ancestors were thrown out of Scotland and banished to Northern Ireland, thence to the states. They lived on the border between Scotland and England and were pretty nasty. So I got some deep DNA to get riled up too!
Happy New Year!
My favroite founding father is GW followed closely by Ben Franklin, intellectually it is Jefferson, Madison and Payne….
OK DAVE …I believe there would not be ONE soul left in Congress …ALL would be behind bars.
Left and Right as ALL have violated their Constitutional Oath of Office. Would be fine by me.
In fact, I'd love to see it retro-active to, umm, err, I dunno, how about 1800. This way we could be CERTAIN to incarcerate ALL of these power hungry crims – Rangel, McCain, Pelosi, Reid, McConnell, Boehner – NONE are exempt. As for those who have passed on, yet guilty – I say make a special graveyard for all of them to be moved to and name it "America's Traitors to the US Constitution". Head Stones shall list their names, what they specifically did and the date …who cares when they were born or died.
So now the term 'conservative' is to be contorted, reshaped and redefined so that all things will, essentially, mean 'liberal?' What's the matter? 'Progressive' isn't fooling enough of the populace anymore?
Leftards still displaying their depth-deficiency. Even the devil tries to cloak himself in sheep's wool–their new disguise will never fool the real deals.
The painting is a depiction of George Washington reading the names of the 13 Republician Senators who voted for the Start Treaty. They will be tried for treason and hung properly.

Our country and the United States Constitution has been hijacked by Progressives and Communists running amock right here in the United States. We have to maintain our vigilance and continue to remove and replace RINO's / PRINO's (Progressive Republicans IN Name Only). Here is a great article of our dilemma we are in:

Scotsirish, Born Fighting (as saying goes).
I went back this week and reread part of the History of Scotland.
OMG, we are tough.
You are a Border Reiver?
Happy New Year to you!!
Thank you. Good comment. The onus of privacy is the responsibility of the individual to secure for himself, it is not something the government can provide. Certainly, the government should not be empowered to invade someone's actual property and plant listening devices, but that right is well covered by the 4th amendment. But if the government wants to put a wire tap on a copper wire that I don't own in order to save lives, that is hardly an abuse of anyone's rights. Phone calls are not private and cannot be made private and it is stupid to believe otherwise (the phone company routinely taps into conversations simply to monitor their equipment) . It is hardly a conservative position to believe that the government should not be proactive in defending the country by eves dropping on terrorists if the technology exists to do so.
JOIN US in AUSTIN on JANUARY 10th-11th!

Having one's head in the sand gets one nowhere!! You're obvious denial is not healthy for the ultimate cause of the constitutionalists! Paranoia is not appropriate, of course, but paying attention is !! Due diligence must be enacted, and it must be enacted NOW !!!
WOO HOO, Sounds GREAT 76
I'll do my best to arrange to see y'all in Austin, in ten days!!!
Thanks for the invite…

Thanks scotsirish for listing those, I need to memorize them, burn them in my psyche, so to speak.
Then I'll be brewing up a real good case of hate on em in 2011.
I sure hope at least half of the traitorous clowns lose their seats in their next bid for reelection.
.
Bennett, Gregg, Joinovich, are retiring now.
They have received "the treatment" already.
Others will follow…
Happy New Year!
Perfect no statue of limitations.
Washington, You are so nice. Happy New Year!
How does that go – your duty is to make the other guy die for his country!
Happy New Year to you as well. Viva La Tea Party!
The craftiness and cunning of the progressive left is scary.
Virtual criminal minds.
A little advice: When we finally succeed in the weeding out this progressive menace that has succeeded in corrupting our republic to the core, don't repeat the mistake that was made in the 1920s of letting them go back into hiding. JUST FINISH THEM OFF ONCE AND ALL. Execute the ringleaders, strip the followers of both their citizenship and property, and then banish them from our soil, letting them wander the world for all eternity. Treat them exactly like how our forefathers treated the despised Tories, because that's what these progressives truly are: TRAITORS.

These are needed changes to the Constitution. I would also try to spell out the President's war-making authority and put Congressional limits on it. War Declaration, Pacification, Rescue, Use of Force Resolution, Peace-Keeping – these need to be defined and the President needs to state the mission.
I would like to see a repeal of the 16th and 17th Amendments.
These are things the Republicans need to do to convince the people they have truly learned their lesson and can be trusted with power.
Lady your much more kind then I am, I say the RNC candidates SUCK!!!! I'll start shooting if the Repub presidential candidate SUCKS too. Like McCain, Huck, Romney ( MA health, highest premiums in Nation…Romney you SUCK).
This guy is worth listening to.
Great article, gets my blood pumping. The whole time I read it I was thinking of Senator Scott "Reach Around" Brown. As in please give me a little reach around before you __ck me…AGAIN. A real disappointment.
PS If you all would help spread the word, I am trying to get that nickname to stick!!
No, but the wording of the United States Declaration of Independence for the first time enumerated rights of humans as given by The Creator as opposed to granted by a despot. Now I don't know the intent of your question, but the concept of human freedoms independent of another human being (regardless of station) was not conservatism…in that age it was radicalism.
Freedoms as described were radical in 1776. In 2010 they are endangered.
Some of these I would have predicted. Others on the list such as Lamar Alexander and Johnny Isakson puzzled me. I don't understand why this was not held over for the new senate.
There is a lot I do not understand.
They are not what they would have US believe?
My Senator (R) voted for the Food Bill too. ?
Good for the author! Too many Republicans were willing to create more massive Federal bureaucracies at the expense of state sovereignty & individual rights. The GOP was once the party of 'small government'. Not anymore.
I voted GOP all my life. I switched my registration to Libertarian in 2010.
676 days until Election Day 2012.
I am in favor of giving the entire US Congress a case of religion.
At best, our political leaders had forgotten the simple values of freedom, individual initiative and government restraint that make America exceptional. At worse, they were hostile to these values, hell-bent on the idea that government knew better and had the right to redistribute your hard-earned money to their ends.
The Pelosi Democrats call this idea "progressive," but it's not a new idea. It has been the Fool's Errand of all would-be central planners for centuries. The new progressives hate the old “Socialist” label of their failed ideology. The President himself, piqued by the question, went out of his way to tell the New York Times: "I am not a Socialist." Of course, words mean what they mean, and "Socialism" refers to a system of economic organization where government owns the means of production. Like car companies, or the provision of health insurance, or seats on the governing board of investment banks. In fairness, maybe their real goal is government control of the means of production. But that system of economic organization effectively functions in the very same way, and has its own history of catastrophic failure.
Americans, it turns out, are genetically opposed to socialism. So, we stood up because we did not know what else to do.
And they ignored us at their own peril. VIVA LA TEA PARTY.
"The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves."
George Washington
Notice how these 'socialist democrats' use the old Soviet model every chance they get?
Firm grip on the media and propagandizing?
Demonize the opposition to justify what they may do to them?
They ally, and sympathize with the worst sorts?
Mock the Constitution and prevailing institutions as old and irrelevant?
If you don't agree with them there is something wrong with YOU (dumb, racist), and you need re-education?
They are never wrong, their messaging was just faulty?
They lie and hide their true intent and pass hidden laws in the dark?
Use government for petty retribution as a warning to bully others?
Encourage citizens to turn on each other?
Mock and demonize religion?
Begin crackdowns when their promises are broken (medicare, SS) to squelch dissent?
Make law against consent of governed?
Go around the elected reps via regulations?
Make plans for martial law (executive order for Council of Governors)?
All of this has been done before, ongoing in Venezuela. Obama backed the marxist dictator wannabee takeover attempt in Honduras so he knows how this is supposed to work.

Marco Malo, I hope they all have a case of jailhouse religion.
On deep and effective spiritual experiences, I fear they are too far gone.
I especially wish this jailhouse experience on persons concerned with environmental matters…..

If you are speaking of the Declaration of Independence as the first document which was to be used as the basis of governmental rule I am with you. I will however post some information which you will see shows that Natural Law as well as individual rights and freedoms based upon God's Laws predate our Declaration by decades. Thankfully our founding fathers were true "scholars" a trait severely lacking over the last 110 years. What we got during that period was political ambition and lust for political power not adherence to our founding principles laid out in the Declaration or the Constitution. Now the rest!
“The first self-conscious school of economic thought developed in France shortly after the publication of Cantillon's Essai. They called themselves "the economists," but later came to be called the "physiocrats," after their prime politico-economical principle: physiocracy (the rule of nature).
Not only were the physiocrats generally consistent advocates of laissez-faire, but they also supported the operation of a free market and the natural rights of person and property.
John Locke and the Levellers in England had transformed the rather vague and holistic notions of natural law into the clear-cut, firmly individualistic concepts of the natural rights of every individual human being. But the physiocrats were the first to apply natural-rights and property-rights concepts fully to the free-market economy. In a sense, they completed the work of Locke and brought full Lockeanism to economics.
Quesnay and the other physiocrats were also inspired by the typically 18th-century-Enlightenment version of natural law, where the individual's rights of person and property were deeply embedded in a set of natural laws that had been worked out by the creator and were clearly discoverable in the light of human reason. In a profound sense, then, 18th-century natural-rights theory was a refined variant of medieval and postmedieval Scholastic natural law. The rights were now clearly individualistic and not societal or pertaining to the state; and the set of natural laws was discoverable by human reason.
The 17th-century Dutch Protestant, and in essence Protestant Scholastic, Hugo Grotius, deeply influenced by the late Spanish Scholastics, developed a natural-law theory that he boldly declared was truly independent of the question of whether God had created them. The seeds of this thought were in St. Thomas Aquinas and in later Catholic Scholastics, but never had it been formulated as clearly and as starkly as by Grotius.
Hugo Grotius (10 April 1583 – 28 August 1645), also known as Huig de Groot or Hugo de Groot, worked as a jurist in the Dutch Republic. With Francisco de Vitoria and Alberico Gentili he laid the foundations for international law, based on natural law. He was also a philosopher, theologian, Christian apologist, playwright, and poet.
Grotius's influence on international law is paramount, and is acknowledged by, for instance, the American Society of International Law, which since 1999 holds an annual series of Grotius Lectures

My question is why people like Tad Lumpkin keep insisting that our constitution somehow applies to NON-CITIZENS, and people who are in fact, NOT IN THE US (like Julian Assange)? Assange is NOT a citizen, and is NOT in the US, therefore, our constitution should NOT give him ANY protection. He solicits state secrets from whatever source will give them up, which makes him a conspirator to espionage. His whistleblower argument for those in government who give up these secrets holds no water because of the shear volume of data provided. In order to be a whistleblower, you need to have knowledge of what you are exposing in order to make a judgement as to whether it is right or wrong. There is no way any 1 person could have gone through all of the documents given to Assange, therefore, they knew not what they were giving up. By the logic that is used in this article, I could get a job as an administrative assistant to a CEO, break into his office one day, steal 5 random boxes of files, give them to the media without even browsing them, and then call myself a whistleblower if anything raised an eyebrow! If our constitution applies to everyone, then what is the benefit of citizenship (its definitely not the taxes you have to pay!)? I would not even extend our constitution to people here illegally, why should we pay for a criminal defense lawyer for an illegal alien? I say that their own country should supply the lawyer, this goes for legal tourists too!
Your damn right the big government statists plan to hijack the conservative movement, again.
It's what they've always done.
Those of you who think this is a stretch, take a look at the sorry bunch the MSM is selling as the GOP front runners.
