The Top 7 Reasons Meg Whitman Will Beat Jerry Brown
by Thomas Del BeccaroPlain and simple: Meg Whitman will be the next Governor of California. After a long primary season, the general election matchup is set. Brown v. Whitman. Yesterday v. Tomorrow.

Here are your 7 reasons why Meg Whitman will be the next governor of California.
7. Meg is News. The news media follows, well, news. New candidates, especially dynamic candidates, are written about and get on the news more than candidates that have been around awhile. Jerry Brown is the anything but new – and hardly news.
6. Meg is Tireless. Meg will be everywhere throughout this entire cycle. Brown, by contrast, hasn’t been in a heavily contested statewide race in decades. Many question whether he has another such race in him. Brown simply will not be able to keep up with Whitman.
5. Meg is Extraordinarily Determined. Anyone that has spent any amount of time with Meg Whitman knows she is an extraordinarily focused person. eBay wasn’t built in a day and it wasn’t built on hope. Whitman proved in her primary campaign that she is goal oriented and categorically determined to meet those goals. Losing is not in her vocabulary.
4. Battle Hardened. Although primaries can be rough, the best candidates benefit from the experience. Meg has gone through a rough primary, taken the hit, saw the polls tighten, went back to work, and emerged the better for it. By contrast, Jerry Brown has yet to even engage.
3. Meg has the Monetary & Marketing Resources. Say what you want, the fact of that matter is that Meg Whitman will be able to compete in every corner of California – especially the LA market. Historically, Republicans draw even throughout the state and had difficulty in statewide elections because they have trouble competing in the LA Market – especially down the stretch. No such trouble this time. Meg has the resources to be on the air everywhere throughout the entire cycle. Beyond that, her commercials to date demonstrate that she has a very capable marketing team.
2. Jerry Brown Has Nothing Relevant to Say. Jerry Brown is the embodiment of Big Government, environmentalist/union politics. The problem for him is that we are in a Prop 13/Tea Party type of environment – not a pro-government/incumbent environment. So what does Jerry Brown have to offer California in 2010?
Brown can’t talk budget cuts – unions don’t like that. Brown can’t talk about bringing regulations into balance – environmentalists don’t like that. Brown can’t talk education reform – the CTA doesn’t like that. Brown can’t talk cutting tax rates – nobody on the Left likes that. So exactly what concrete proposal will Brown propose to fix California? Nothing. I assure you his platform will be more like porridge than concrete.
1. Meg’s Focused & Responsive Agenda. This election will be dominated by skeptical voters. They are no longer interested in platitudes and most do not believe government will solve all of their problems. Indeed, for many in the Central Valley and beyond they know that government is the problem because it is too big, not responsive and out of balance. Any successful candidate in 2010 must address those problems head on. Meg Whitman will.
Meg’s 3-point, focused agenda on restoring California jobs by making our economy competitive again, her plan for cutting wasteful spending and improving education is not only the right program, but it is directly responsive to the major voter concerns of the day. Beyond that plan, her determination to end Sacramento’s bill factory, by vetoing bills outside her 3-point agenda, is a great contrast to an out of control government and its poster child Jerry Brown.
* Bonus Reason. This is not a Democrat year. This is not a status quo year or a Big Government year. This is a year where all of the reasonable predictions are that the Democrats will suffer large losses in Congress across the country. It is one thing to be told you are going to lose, but the Democrat vote will be depressed even more when the wave of losses makes its way across the Country. That wave will hit California and Jerry Brown directly.
When you combine all of the above, it is hard to conclude otherwise than that Meg Whitman will be the next governor of California. Here’s to defeating the terrible B’s: Brown, Boxer and Big Government.

It seems like a foregone conclusion who'll win the Govenors seat. Meg outta hit hard on the Leftist agenda and call Brown what he is……a do-nothing, union-loving, environmental whacko who takes orders from Progressives instead of the taxpayers. i admire Meg and hope she keeps the pressure on. Hey, ChromeDome, how's that ACORN investigation comin'?
let's hope Meg is the next Reagan in Heels!!!! The resistance stands firm today, Patriots!!!
Nice article but needs editing in multiple places. Looks like spell check twisted some typos into unintended words.
I'm not wild about Meg Whitman but a recycled JerryBrown? What are the Dims thinking?
A man so hapless,
he's not even polling well in Oakland where he was the liberal standard barer for all their failed policies….
Sort of a microcosm of what he did as Governor, around the Jimmah Carter era…
I'll take the good news…warts and all. A missing comma here and there is secondary to the hope for restoration that the article brings.
Ugh, this whole California race worries me. #1 the dems chose Brown to run? #2, Meg Whitman isn't as conservative as she needs to be IMO and #3, I have a feeling that the dems may have chosen Brown so that Meg wouldn't have that great of a challenge. It's starting to look as though they really WANT her in which isn't a good sign. Not only that but she was palling around with Van Jones and was probably even endorsed by him. I would feel much better about CA if Chuck Devore had been chosen. I have a feeling that CA is going down the same road with Whitman.
Just the look on Brown's face is very telling…he is old and tired, and doesn't really look that interested in doing anything but saving his career! I hope Meg doesn't get to Washington and let herself be lured into the corruption!
Agreed, I hoped the author would note and repost. Grammer and spelling issues I overlook but there are several places where the words just don't make sense. Example, the second to last paragraph, the second to last sentence. "It is was thing to be told…" Should read "It is ONE thing to be told…"
Never overestimate the wisdom of the California voter.
When I see that photo, I'm reminded of the "Rule of eyebrow hair" which states that the tendency towards totalitarianism is directly proportional to the quantity of eyebrow hair a person has. That's also why I never trust a man with a unibrow.
There may be some hope for California if Meg wins. She could put most of the state resources on eBay and raise enough money to begin attacking the debt. I would love to see her take the Gov Christie approach and tell the state unions and teacher mafia to go pound sand. Their good ol' days are over.
Jerry "moonbeam" Brown. Just a character out of loon history.
Personally I think the outcome will hinge on not the candidates, but the behavior of the MANY self declared Tea Party groups and their SELF DESTRUCTIVE pissin contests over endorsements, like we saw in Nevada. That needless, pointless squabble may have caused the election of the candidate LEAST LIKELY TO DEFEAT REID.
Meg, endorsed by one Tea Party group, won. But how does she actually poll against Brown? Is she the strongest candidate? Cause Carly, endorsed by ANOTHER Tea Party group, wasn't, against BOXER. In fact pre election polls showed she was the LEAST LIKELY TO DEFEAT BOXER.
Tea Party "whatevers"….PLEASE STOP ENDORSING CANDIDATES! This isn't about YOU.
Fortunately California has voter recall and if she screws Republicans, they'll turn her out to pasture quickly.
Or do you mean "Grammar"?
He found Acorn did "NOTHING WRONG".

BOOYAH!!
I just hope that our refreshed conservative movement delivers, outlives, and holds to a higher ethical standard than the past. Its the same frustration with government on the flip-side that put Obama in office. When we get it back we need to hold on to it by never forgetting the principles that got us there and not fueling the stereotypes the liberals have for conservatives. I want to see politicians that put the founding principles of this country ahead of their party.
Whitman is a strong businesswoman and right now that is what the state of California needs,a real CEO.No candidate is all things to all people, as long as she controls the checkbook like my wife does ours, California will be ok. Moonbeam is , as Commander Cody says,"lost in the Ozone again".
I don't just want to drop a gear as we head down the highway to Hell. I want to stop, and turn around.
Ditto!
Career Politician vs. Career Builder? Not really a tough choice.
there is one more reason MEG WHITMAN will win……SHE'S FROM EARTH!!!!
It's like… you know ….. like…. relative man. OMG!
I voted for her, but I'm worried. She came out against the Arizona immigration law. And that law is exactly what California needs. Illegal Mexicans are the biggest problem that California has. Importing crime and poverty into the state.
I hear you Deus, me too.
Go to Washington?….? Isn't this race for Governor? I believe the state capitol of Cali is in Sacramento.
Please pay attention – but vote for Meg!
She is a far site better than Brown for sure but will she be good for Cali? Her stance on social issues would suggest not. She stayed out of Prop 8 for her own political reasons and is at best, only a conservative in a fiscal sense. CA needs much more than that to survive.
The changes that will be needed to save CA (If it can be saved) will come from a rejection of the left's social agenda as well. They are interwined with the fiscal policy's. Issue's such as abortion, SSM, illegal immigration, anti constitutional judges and religous intolerance all have a deep and lasting affect on the financial woe's that plague CA. They go hand in hand.
The brightest business mind in the world can not cure the fiscal problems without first taking on the social issues.
Whitman will attempt to work both sides of the street like Arnie, with similar results.
Illegal aliens is one of the biggest problems that California has. They suck out resources and contribute little or nothing to the overall economy. Not only that, they are actively working to overthrow the government and re-conquer California. They screwed up Mexico and other Latin American countries, now they want to screw up ours.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. It's one thing to be a CEO in a politically correct atmosphere and another to be thrown in a political swimming pool with sharks and barracuda ( who are waiting for her).
They all end up in Washington sooner or later!
Our party leaders remind me of a time I was following a car with two bluehairs in it and they stopped on the railroad tracks, each looking out of their window to see if a train was coming.
I don't know if Meg Whitman can bring California back from the brink but, electing Moonbeam Brown will be a commitment to disaster.
THEN: Californians elected and supported liberal politicians who squandered their tax dollars for years. The politicians entitled unions, welfare recipients, government drones, illegal aliens, those still mooching off mom and dad, and other worthless freeloaders, giving them taxpayer dollars. They said it could all be paid for by taxing the rich, taxing big business, taxing their children's future, credit, and other fiscal nonsense. Californians were happy, they were getting a free lunch.
NOW: Business is moving out, the rich are moving out, California has maxed out their credit, more freeloaders are moving in, taxes are going up, inflation is going up and the State is issuing IOUs. So what do the California politicians do? Boycott Arizona! What a bunch of incompetent morons.
Black Caucus: STOP ETHICS INVESTIGATIONS! http://usataxpayer.org/htm/blackcaucus.asp
TRAITORS – Enemies of America… http://usataxpayer.org/?0072194997
Go Meg! If the voters recycle Moon-beam they get what they deserve! There are conservatives in CA, and they outnumber the LAliens just need to get them motivated.
Meg may be good for CA, but will CA be good for meg? The state legislature is chock full of the spend it all and more crowd. The voters have been fed the get it free card for over thirty years. Unions are gigantic parasites. And then you have the illegal vote supported by the social service programs draining the life blood from their economy. Those little problems can cost her votes. Whereas, brownie – the aged hippie – will continue all programs, bow to the unions and legislature, and continue to support the over two million illegals statewide. With the current mentality of the CA voters, I suspect brown has a good chance unless a near miracle takes place.
Regardless of the outcome. It should be a great show. BTW, I hope Meg wins and the voters get rid of the current state legislature during the state election cycle.
Nope, Wisdom is in Montana
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisdom,_Montana
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
please not Jerry Brown
Does she want to win if she doesn't also change the makeup of the legislature? She has to beat Brown and have some State Senate/Assembly coattails. Senate is Dem 25/15, Assembly is Dem 48/32 , all of the districts are very gerrymandered. She can win, but if she wants to win and then succeed at governing, she needs to flip some seats too.
Anyone voting for Jerry Brown obviously didn't live here the last time he was governor. Hell she could get him on his record as AG alone!!! Ask Jerry Brown why he is more concerned with environmental issues instead of enforcement of the law, such as Jessica's law.
what she is going to have to do with the legislature is pull s Chris Christie and blatantly stand up to them.
I have to say I am half tempted to vote for Jerry Brown just to put the final nail in the coffin of the beast known as liberalism. Bankruptcy has a way of waking people up.
Please sign the Petition: http://www.wnd.com/validationofbarackobama
Unfortunately, even if she wins, she will have a loony tunes legislature and a populace of idiots to deal with. I live in California. You cannot believe the stupidity of the electorate in the heavily populated areas.
I went to a high school graduation last night, first one I've been to in years. I now understand how Obama got elected. The student speaker was illiterate, the teacher who spoke had hair down to his waist, was sloppily dressed, and spoke at great length about how he was going to take advantage of cryogenics and come back to make money off the great works of his students. His whole speech was about himself with one sentence thrown to the students. It was a Twilight Zone moment as I looked around at the audience, wondering if they were all in on some huge joke that I wasn't privy to. There's no hope for this state, folks.
We've had Whitman already – the Terminator was a flop. I will never vote for a Dem but voting for the likes of Whitman? She seems to think being a CEO is the same as being a Governor. Arnold tried issuing edicts and found himself humbled by the whorish Dem legislature. Does she really think she can fix things all by herself? She's deluded and I wouldn't be surprised if the ignoramuses in CA pick the retread Brown over her. Me? I'm voting 3rd party. CA is finished.
Meg Whitman's most dangerous view is on Illegal Immigration. She stated she WONT enforce "Fed. Immigration Law" What? It states that ALL ILLEGALS ARETO BE DEPORTED NOW.That is the quickest, way that we will ever Clean Up America! She takes an OATH to Uphold our laws.Obama too.1-America is ONLY Country that tolerates even ONE Illegal for 1day! 2- We have a Fed. Immigration Law FOR A REASON,TO DEPORT ILLEGALS, here from ANY Country. We have 40 MILLION ILLEGALS FROM 30 countries! They are UKNOWN entities ! Obama wants to TRADE AMNESTY FOR THEIR 40 MILLION VOTES. NO.DEPORT NOW! 3- If our ELECTED OFFICIALS WONT enforce our Federal Laws, they should not be in Office! 4- ILLEGALS are:Un-Screened for Diseases, Criminal background. They're Drug Terrorists, rapists. All 40 Million are DRAINING our Health, Education & Welfare $ystems. They have NO INTEREST in what's Best for America! They dont want to become Citizens. They want Entitlement programs, & Infiltrate our Colleges & spread Jihad & other Anti-American Idealogies.THEY'RE HERE ILLEGALLY! MEG & OBAMA! hello? NO AMNESTY OR "REFORM"Obama'sPlotting to keep them, for VOTES FOR HIMSELF & PROGRESSIVES ON BOTH SIDES! NO!
And now we're back to the lesser of two evils. Ho Hum…………
I agree and was very disappointed that Poizner didn't win, neither did Devore. (But I'm hoping Fiorina will be able to beat Boxer.) Once again we will have an election where we will have to vote for whoever "sucks less".
Here is a list of the Marxist, Socialist, Communists who MUST be voted out: http://www.sovereignty.net/center/socialists.htm

Now, now, be nice. Those of us that have a brain keep trying, but are outnumbered by the unions, eco-nuts and the welfare crowd in LA and San Fran areas (oh and let's not leave out the Hollywood crowd). We'll keep trying, but it is an uphill battle and has been for years. At least MEG didn't take a penny from anyone for her campaign.
I was born in CA in 1970. I lived there until I joined the Army in 1989. I have been back a couple times since then for a total of around 2 more years. So, more than half of my life was spent living in California. I LOVE CA.
I would not move back there now unless my life depended on it.
I do hope Meg Whitman wins the Governorship and can start the healing process that is needed in California.
I feel the same way. My calculation , however, is that anyone is better than Brown of Boxer. It means our work is not done after November. I am also tempered by the realism that California is just too far gone to ever elect a true conservative again. We used up our quota of Reagans. The T Party movement just is not as strong in this state as in others. But, if the central GOP can get its act together and exert pressure, folks like Fiorina will largely fall into line, I believe. The country's salvation does not lie in California….
With you on that. I keep working on my Dem friends. It will take a while though.
CA VOTERS BEWARE!! Meg Whitman: "I'm a huge fan of Van Jones…" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fRnNnKjbgM
Of course they didn't live there in the late 70's early 80's.
They lived in Mexico!
Did you notice how her ads changed as soon as Steve Poizner gained in the polls? She changed her "talking points" to be more in line with Poizner's as it came closer to the election. Now she says she will secure the border. Not sure where she really stands on any issue at this point. But anyone will be better than Moonbeam"!
Give us your poor, lazy and self-absorbed…welcome to California, the "I Gotta Be Me" state.
Erm. Could be she is using one of those voice to print programs and did not edit?
You are outnumbered by the graveyard and nursing home registration. Clean up the elections and you might win now and then.
I like Meg, BUT, I'm hoping she changes her mind on allowing 40 Million ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS TO RUN HERD ACROSS AMERICA. DEPORT them Meg. Uphold our FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAW according to the Oath that you'll take. Obama's not upholding our Law for a very DEVIOUS reason.(don't help him in his PLOT) He wants to TRADE AMNESTY FOR 40 Million ILLEGAL VOTES, & stick America with 40 Million Disease Ridden, Criminals, rapists,rapists,Terrorists,Un-Screened,Drug Dealers, who DRAIN our Health,Education & Welfare Systems! Obama will gladly BURDEN AMERICA with them.Don't help him Meg.Why should America be punished with this burden? Obama & team, including Lawyer Roxana Bacon have his Amnesty Law ready to go. It is deviously named
"COMPREHENSIVE IMMIGRATION REFORM" Instead of DEPORTING ILLEGALS by Federal Immigration Law, it will be Polluting America. We need to Clean Out America & Close up our Boarders at same time, & everyone from Foreign Countries should GET IN LINE to APPLY for Legal Immigration! Obama is deliberately doing nothing, enjoying the immigration mess, in order to justify another RAMMING of another Destructive Obama/Pelosi Bill! help!
Just think: Moonbeam plucks his eyebrows.
(Okay, I don't know that.)
Jerry "Medfly" Brown was a failure the first time he was governor and is a major player in the destruction of the state.
Agreed. Meg was not the best choice, but we have her now. So she'll have to change some of her ideas, I hope. Like ENFORCE OUR FEDERAL LAWS! ESPECIALLY OUR FEDERAL IMMIGRATION LAW. Obama doesn't enforce it because he wants to SWAP 40 Million Diseased Criminals,Drug Dealers & terrorists, draining our Health, Education & Welfare Systems dry, for AMNESTY. He will stick America with these 40Million Illegal Undesireables. Our elected officials take Oath to Uphold our Federal Laws. SO ENFORCE them! One of which, Our Fed. Immigration Law, is very clear. DEPORT ANYONE HERE ILLEGALLY IMMEDIATELY.So Meg & obama, Pelosi,Rham- We don't want to $UPPORT 40 Million Un-Screened ILLEGALS! DEPORT THEM ALL NOW. That's a start! Pres. Eisenhower did it, you can too. (or are the 40Million VOTES too tempting O'marxist?)Get the Vans & Airplanes ready. Clean up America
Ah yes, Governor Moonbeam. His saving grace is that most young Californians don't know this idiot's past.
Two words: RECYCLED RADICAL.
Yesterday was a great day for Americans and women. Four conservative, common sense, strong, articulate, focused female leaders won their primaries. All four will soon be leading our country back to Constitutional government, the rule of law, and fiscal sanity in their roles as Governors and Senators.
Final thought: It comes down to what CA voters want from their government. If they truly want the give-away, do-it-all-for-everybody version they currently have, the pols must tell the voter to face up to their obligation to pay for it (HIGHER TAXES). If they don't want this level of spending, the pols must tell the labor unions "NO" (and lose the union money). The voters have sent split messages (Dem legislature and RINO Govs) for too long, interpreted by the pols as more spending is OK. Whitman, Brown, it makes little difference because the legislature spends the money. Unless and until the decision is made about what CA residents want, it'll just get worse.
Arnold tried that, even went to the voters with the initiatives. Failed. CA is lost (and I live here).
Damn…she needs to correct the record and say I meant to say "Van Halen, they are one of the greatest bands from California".
I am just glad that my time in CA is almost over and I will soon be back in Texas.
WOW– angry much,,, news flash about Carly' I don't recall any poll's showing Carly "the least likely" to defeat Boxer' but just the opposite. Carly was shown to be the one who had the backing of many Conservatives and Moderates from both parties to give ole' Bab's the boot…" Carly overwhelmingly won her nomination and pulled way ahead of the other two candidates in a landslide" Primaries are about getting the best possible candidate for their party. The "pissin match" with the TEA Party's etc. Well' that's what a Primary is about' ( contesting the candidates. ) As for the Nevada race' sure Sharron wasn't my choice either but' she won. So' now we all have to "suck-it-up and Nevada too", get behind Sharron and vote Reid out in Nov…!
Self destructive are the TEA PARTY'S,,, really, hmmmmmmmmmm…. and ( the "GOP" in general, ) where have they been as of late,,,, EEyore's as usual !!!
With millions of potential candidates, California is recycling this nimrod-turd from Jurassic Park who worked hard in order to help get CA where it is today.
Unbelievable!
I live here too. Arnold was not blatant in your face about it. Held no town hall confrontations like Christie, let the media spin his initiatives, and made far too many assumptions. Also I think people are much more ready to listen now as opposed to then.
If Christie in NJ can do it there is hope for California.
I disagree. Note that Brown received just over 1.4 million votes without spending much more than a dime. Meg spent a little more and all Republicans together got just over 1.4 million votes. Not a confident booster for me. I think Brown will win easily.
Not that that will be such a bad thing. The faster CA declares insolvency the better. Meg may postpone that for a few years.
Hey Cali,
Whoa….Actually I saw two separate polls showing Carly the least likely of the candidates to defeat Boxer. I didn't keep the links…read it on Real Clear Politics.
My point was the Tea parties don't HAVE to endorse anyone. By definition this time out the NOT DEM candidate is the choice. So let the voters pick the NOT DEM they like best without Palin or Tea Parties endorsing anyone.
I think they are more likely to split the NOT DEM vote if two or more "self declared" official Tea Party groups endorse different candidates. Like Nevada. I don't know if the other candidates were better liked by the folks who live there but one of them polled much better against Reid than the one who got the endorsement and won.
As you say it may be a moot point since the NOT REID candidate is a strong draw, whoever. But it wasn't necessary to endorse anyone. And now we have to HOPE that those whose candidate didn't win will still turn out and vote. They probably will. But if they needed an excuse not to, that excuse was needlessly provided.
I dunnno….maybe it's pickin at nits. As you say, folks will probably suck it up and vote for ANY not dem this time out. Heck I still can't believe anyone could even LOOK at Reid or his performance last year and vote for him, lol.
The tea party is so diverse really that endorsements don't mean alot. And it's confusing to have three self declared Tea Parties endorse different candidates in the same race. It will inevitably split the vote whereas just letting voters decide might not. It could, but it's less likely than with the endorsement.
If Carly pulled her numbers up against the Dem then good. But don't you think she would have won without the Tea Party endorsement? That endorsement did make a big difference in the Nevada race. Again Angle did not poll as well against Reid as the other candidates did. Why I don't know. Just saw it on the same article. Did she also pull her numbers up against Reid? Don't know. But either way did she NEED Tea Party endorsement to win?
And I agree the GOP looks pretty rudderless too. Maybe they're trying to mesh with the Tea Parties. Maybe they need our vote. In which case….run fiscal conservative, no "old guy network: people and they'll get our votes.
This chick is all business. I remember working with her back on the corner of Bascom and Hamilton, in San Jose — good ole Silicon Valley – trying to get PayPal up and running. She will stop at nothing to bring fiscal order to this crazy Californication.
I have not read the comments so I am sorry if I am repeating someone else. MEG WHITMAN IS A RINO. RINO: REPUBLICAN IN NAME ONLY. She bought the election with 80 million dollars and Carly FiaRINO is the same, a RINO who aligns, who is a supporter of LA RAZA both these woman bought the election. They did an about face on their ideology and the ignorant California residents only respond to what they see on TV and Meg and Carly had their mugs on there so often you couldn’t go 20 minutes without seeing a commercial for them California REMAINS DOOMED. We are doomed to Liberal Hell until the revolution comes. Revolution will come, but it will be in the form of La Raza rising up to slaughter the White Man. Folks you think I am being dramatic? Come visit LA for a week; then tell me something different. WE ARE DOOMED IN CALIFORNIA. Prepare your pocketbooks and wallets for when Meg comes a knocking for the California Bailout. Remember we are all in this together.
Oh and yes Meg will win because JERRY BROWN IS AN INCOHERENT HIPPIE. He might, if he is lucky get 22% of the vote. Remember I said this so I can see if I am right or wrong, cuz I know I will forget.
KALIPHONEYA already has a law like that…do some research you can find it….
The question we're all asking in California is – WHY IS JERRY BROWN RUNNING FOR GOVERNOR?
Jerry is the son of Pat Brown, a former governor
Jerry was the governor
Jerry ran for pesident 4 times
Jerry was mayor of Oakland
Jerry is the attorney general
Jerry doesn't seem to be able to stop himself
BTW, when mayor of Oakland, Jerry did a very good job. He was very pro-business and very law and order.
Good Luck, I hope she does something about the illegals too….I don't think we're being told
about how much illegals are costing us in all the states….They know the American people
would go bananas if they knew the truth….We're losing our country to illegals….
[...] Whitman will be the next gov of California. But is the job do-able with a Dem [...]
The last poll from the RJ in Las Vegas showed about a 5 point lead for Angle but it was in the margin of error. This was the same for the other front running GOPrs up to the primary. Sharron has some negatives to overcome but the lambasting she will no doubt recieve from dingy harry will be no different form the bashing any candidate who won the primary would receive. The DCCC had three different websites slandering the front three runners and only had to turn on the site associated with the winner. It will be a long summer and the outcome will be known with certainty only after November 2nd. As for who these elections are "about" people are still free to express their political desires through endorsements no matter what others may feel.
One domino that was created by the MSM will also help Jerry Brown into irrelevency! As the dominos fall on the East Coast the MSM won't be able to contain themselves as they bemoan the Democrat losses working their way Westward, while the polls may still be open in California, TAPS will have sounded back East, further disheartening Democrat voters, while hyper-motivated Republicans and Independents will add iceing to the cake.
Anagnorisis,
I'm glad you point that out. I haven't seen any more recent polls than those I mentioned which were far from new. And I think/hope that the snarkier Reid gets, the more he will turn folks off. Hopefully dirty tricks and hate rhetoric don't play as well as they once did. I know those kinds of behavior in candidates here in AZ really don't play well at all…which would be why you haven't seen or heard from Grijalva since he went off on AZ and the gov for the immigration law. He's been a big fat hole in the wind since that speech. Mr. trappist monk, lol.
I can't for the life of me think who on earth would want Reid but obviously lots of folks do. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Sharron and the Tea Party voters.
We can only try. Hopefully enough decent people will be put in congress to at least slow the train if not stop it altogether. As for turnin it around….not till after 2012. But slow works for me, lol.
yesterday was a loss because you did not get a dazzling victory. I'm not hearing any triumph in anyone's reports.
Y'all were bragging about ousting the bums and you did not even get great candidates. it is less than 3 months since health care passed and people are already past caring. I would bet that voter turnout in November will be wayyyyyyyyyy down and dems win with low vote numbers.
No one is bragging today… which means that you didn't do the job that needed doing. Can you get it together by November? I'll watch and see but I'm not betting the rent money.
I share your worry there. Whitman is also notorious among gun rights supporters because she banned guns and related products from eBay. Another worry.
If California is to ever get back into the win column, it won't be with Jerry Moonbeam Brown at the helm. Socialist minded Brown has been, and will continue to be a disaster in whatever he touches in government.
/
NOVEMBER, VOTE THE DIRTY COMMIE RATS OUT
I'm going to disagree with you slightly. I think right now the most important thing is ECONOMIC and that includes the size of the gov't and keeping costs down and therefore keeping taxes down, etc. The Social issues are just not as important to most Californians. It's hard to care about social issues when you don't have a job or your savings went into the crapper and your taxes are going to go up.
Plus, once you get everybody on board with fiscal conservatism, then when you tackle the social issues, people will tend to turn a little toward the right in this sense – abortion for example. I think many people are personally pro-life but for others pro-choice. Plus I think most would agree, especially after getting on board with fiscal conservatism that the gov't shouldn't be paying for abortions, if even on economic grounds rather than moral grounds.
Let's put it this way – the Right grabbed me on National Security first, then fiscal issues and then only slightly on social issues (I'm more of a libertarian on most of those issues) and I have a sneaky feeling most Americans are the same way.
We care about National Security (including securing the border), we are iffy on fiscal stuff, but I think people can be convinced when they see wild out of control spending and higher taxes. Next is social issues where you can make some economic arguments for some things and some state's rights arguments on others. Americans are socially moderate I believe, a bit of live and let live. If the Right wants to keep in the game, they don't have to change their platform but they will have to explain it in better terms to the rest of America without sounding like Bible thumpers. It turns most people off, even if they consider themselves religious.
I'll vote for Whitman, though with grave reservations about her softness on immigration, gun rights, and other issues.
It's nice that she has lots of money. Unfortunately, the unions have an unlimited supply. Brown is already up 6.2 points in the latest RCP poll.
If by some miracle Whitman wins, we have a legislature that makes Gov. Moonbeam look like a paragon of intelligence, wisdom and sanity. And it's controlled by one party.
Our only hope is that Whitman wins AND that redistricting goes through in time to make a difference.
If Moonbeam wins, one thing's for sure: I'm selling my condo at any price and moving to Arizona.
Oh, and another thing. Thanks to that open primary idiocy, we will henceforth have a "choice" in every election that matters between Democrat A and Democrat B. Thus if Brown wins in 2010, it'll be Brown versus Newsome in 2014, etc.
Brown is going to win. California is a state where the tax eaters outnumber the tax payers. Those who think everything from the government is "free" and want more and more of it, are going to outvote those who pay. Taxes will skyrocket, spending will skyrocket even more than that, and the productive middle class will not be able to afford to stay here, even if they have jobs an want to stay. The good news is that the coming collapse of this state (Greece on the Pacific) will be sooner rather than later, as a Whitman governorship would only prolog the agony. The sooner that the idiot philosophy of liberals is ashes, the sooner a fair and just society can start building again in this state. I hope I can hang on and survive the ride to the bottom
As a lifelong Nevada resident I'll be voting against dingy harry for the fourth time. I still have hope and certainly won't give up.
I'm probably the same as you on social issues and I would agree with you that most Americans are the same way. But therein lies the problem. Maybe all of us have been wrong.
I'm no choirboy and I haven't lived as one. And I don't mean to be preachy. But, I am beginning to understand the fiscal damage that a libertarian (and worse, a liberal) postition on social issues can cause.
It is becoming painfully clear to me just how expensive it is to go through life with an "anything goes" attitude. For governments and for individuals.
Trust me.
I commented on the SACBEE about Brown turning in early Tuesday evening because,"I've been through all this before."—"He's too old to stay awake…."
Brown is like a broken record with the environmental movement that has destroyed CA….and now the nation.
How exactly does taking a more libertarian view on social issues cause fiscal problems? I can understand LIBERAL views doing that because it involves more and more gov't involvement.
But libertarians want a "hands off" approach and while I think some of the hands off approach is not really good for society as a whole, I'm not sure how it causes fiscal problems as much as just a bit more anarchy than we can handle.
