How Republicans Can Stop The Health Care Bill in 3 Steps
by Thomas Del BeccaroThe stakes in the health care debate continue to climb. For the Democrats, they truly are in between a self- imposed Barack and a hard place. If they produce a health care bill that Obama signs over the objections of the American people, they risk losing 55 or more House seats and 8-10 Senate seats. If they don’t push through a bill, they will have angered yet another part of their base.

For the Republicans, any failure to demonstrate a principled resistance to the Democrats will hurt them, in the Fall, among Tea Party voters and their base. If it passes, it will do irrevocable harm to our health care system and the solvency of our government, while hurting the economy and the dollar for decades to come. Worse yet, history has shown that de-nationalizing socialized healthcare is beyond difficult. In other words, hoping for the repeal of ObamaCare is not a good option.
That much danger requires that the Republicans pull out all of the stops to literally stop its passage. As the “final” vote on the bill looms, Republicans in Congress simply must enlist the voice of the American people in their effort and force the Democrats to abandon the bill. Here is a 3 point plan to do just that.
1. Adopt a HealthCare Covenant With America. The existing health care bill represents everything that is wrong with American government today. It is a 2600 page monolith and few have any idea of its true contents – as Nancy Pelosi so eloquently noted (“But we have to pass the [health care ] bill so that you can find out what is in it.”) Republicans quickly and simply must contrast that with a one page charter, contract, or declaration. which sets forth 7 – 10 key reforms in simple straightforward language. The contents should obviously emphasize private sector reforms, such as the promotion of HealthCare Savings Accounts (“HSAs”), coupled with the modernization of government regulations, i.e. updated regulations/laws to allow increased pooling across state lines – all with an eye to addressing the deficiencies of the current health care system.
2. Have Republican Candidates Take the HealthCare Covenant Pledge. Leaders in Congress and the RNC should then work to have each Congressional candidate take a HealthCare Covenant Pledge to effect that they will vote for those reforms if elected to Congress. It should become central plank for all Congressional candidates this Fall.
3. Revolutionize The Marketing/Promotion of The Covenant. Republicans can’t run against City Hall from within City Hall. If they are trailing in votes in the halls of Congress, they need to empower the voters outside of Washington. To do that, Republicans cannot conduct business as usual. They need to market this Health Care Covenant in a completely different manner.
As soon as practical, the Republicans should declare a HealthCare Covenant Day. On that day:
(a) Republicans should hold a National Townhall using a coalition of the willing cable television and radio outlets. That National Townhall should be used to promote the virtues of the HealthCare Covenant while demonstrating the vast shortcomings of ObamaCare. As part of that effort, Republicans should organize watch parties coupled with voter registration drives across the country; and
(b) Republicans should flood the new media (Internet/blogs) and the old media (newspapers) with editorials reinforcing the virtues of the HealthCare Covenant while demonstrating the vast shortcomings of ObamaCare; and
(c) Republicans should invite Tea Party groups and others to hold demonstrations that day; and
(d) Republicans should flood talk radio shows around the Country, leading up to the Townhall, with guests that reinforce the message; and
(e) Republicans should email vital details across the nation to activists and encourage them to contact Democrat lawmakers.
The vast majority of Americans are against this healthcare takeover. It is time for Republicans to enlist their support in a meaningful way as part of a peaceful revolt. If they don’t, America may never be the same. If they do, it will be a victory for Republicans and a more important victory for America.

If you stand with the people who wrote the CONSTITUTION and their vision of America and stand against those that would undermine the constitution the people will stand with you!
On a serious point, your third item would give the GOP the biggest advantage. Marketing. Whether it is cigarettes, gasoline, booze or Health Care, it is all in marketing and presentation. The GOP has fallen flat on their collective faces, in the non-marketing issue revolving around this Health Care Hoax.
Frankly, the GOP has not tightened its ranks and presented a solid front. Whether id is the GOP, or the RNC, neither has done a fraction compared to what the Tea Party and grassroots movements have done towards fighting off this government assault on our daily freedoms. If it weren't for the Tea Party, this Health Care Hoax would have been passed last summer.
I like the way you think…and they 'all fall down'!
How about if it is so great for the masses it is great for the elites as well. I say DEMAND the elites in D.C. have to sign on to Chaobama Care too.
I have said that from the very beginning, and still stand on it. Those 545 buffoons in DC calling the shots are our employees. Their health care should be equal to ours. I have always paid for health care for my employees, and it is the best that money can buy. I do not, however, provide my employees with coverage that is better, or exceeds mine.
In the famous words of El Rushbo…. Right On ! Right On ! Right On ! (last sentence of second paragraph)
End taxation of medical care expenses for everyone. Insurance, medical supplies and procedures, drugs etc.
Simple to implement, real benefit to real people right now.
Do it!
I'd have to agree with 'cowboy logic'… the Republican Party doesn't seem capable of fighting their way out of a wet paper bag. Once again..there are millions of us out here looking for some leadership..many have no idea what to do. And there are allot of things that would help..simple and easy..call every congressman and tell him you oppose it..and keep calling. Instead, the GOP just keeps begging for more money..no more money until they get their act together..
One way you can do that is to sign Louisiana Congressman John Fleming's petition:

Not that it will make any difference, but there are a lot of worse ways to waste a couple of minutes of your time.
I blame the RINOs for where we are today. RINOs need to be hunted to extinction.
Awww, now it won't be a surprise…..

Exactly! They keep talking about this bill being paid for in part by fixing the fraud. If they know how to fix it, they don't need the bill to get it done. And if they do need the bill passed to fix the fraud, then that means they need more control over all of us (which is what the bill is really about)!
Fraud is a crime. There are already laws against that.
I think engaging the public to fight Obamacare is the right idea. There are millions of us that are frustrated with not being able to do much more than write our rep's. The Dem;s obviously don't care about the polls that show a huge majority of the country is against this bill, they are willing to fall on their swords for the O, but if they pass this monstrosity we will have to live with it. It's time for a huge show of outrage that they are ignoring the will of the people.
We have 2 failed entitlements already. I think the evidence is clear and incontovertible. The government is grossly incompetent. I really think another entitlement will be the death knell for America. I am not sure what the republican party is doing, I understand there is a majority of democrats, but these guys really need constitutional scholars scouring this legislation, and this entire process and start looking for legal reasons to slap it down.
I can say this, I WILL NOT PURCHASE INSURANCE MANDATED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT PERIOD!
I was born free and intend to die free. I will not be a SLAVE for the COLLECTIVE. I will not be forced to be altruistic. I will not be forced by my GOVERNMENT to work and pay so someone else can sit on their collective arse and do nothing except demand that their INVENTED rights be granted!
But this health care and cap and Trade is about so much more than we all are being told … its why the Government officials don’t want the same health care coverage …..

I hope the RNC is paying attention. It seems like we have pockets of excellence emerging. But, based on past performance the party has a lot to prove to most citizens. This is NOT the time for us to "trust but verify". It is the time for them to "say it, do it, repeat, and state the fact-based case for trust".
I cannot believe that anyone who pays taxes can believe that the government is capable of running a major entitlement program without running huge defecits. The biggest problem of all is when they try to sell us something when everything else they have sold us has come in over budget and below expectation. The public as a whole can have a very short memory when they go to the polls.
With a few exceptions, most of the current crop of RINOs don't want to fight this bill, McCain, Graham and others are offering amendments so they can compromise with the Dems, Not kill it. This bipartisanship BS is going to destroy our country and needs to stop Now!!. As to a covenant even if they do one they will break it within days if not hours after they sign it, and even if they don't it's not legally binding on any of them, even if it's deemed legal to start with, which I doubt re: Article I Sec.6 Clause1, and even if legal it would not be binding on the next crop of RINO's to come into office unless they too sign it.
We need to weed out the GOP invertebrates as much as we do the Dem weasels. There are some smart, principled men in the GOP but they don't appear to have spines. They need to look to Michelle Bachmann for their cue!

I beg of you to hold to your convictions. The more of your type off the streets and in jail the better. It's long past time we allowed you ignorant government teat sucking rednecks scam the system.
Us liberals feel a responsibility to take care of ourselves and not let the taxpayers pick up the bill when we get sick.
Pass what? Toxic fumes out D.C. Hey stupid, Charlie Rangle could pay his back taxes and that would start the funding process.
watch this and the 2 other videos of this topic you will start to see what the real reasons for health care and cap and trade are . wake up America !!!!!!!!

NO! Even if congress had to sign on, do you really think they would be subject to what we would be? They would find their own sweet deals, just like they are doing now with everything. They are corrupt (most of them) and cannot be trusted. This healthcare bill simply cannot go thru and if it does, we must rise up and squash it. We would have to have a tax revolt first…..if that didn't work…..well, hmmmm….think think
Yes! All of congress needs to be like Ms. Bachmann! Why aren't they? Even my congressmen, while quite conservative, are not screaming!!!! Why not? That's why I will not be voting for those guys again and I told them as such.
"If it weren't for the Tea Party, this Health Care Hoax would have been passed last summer."
Yeah right. "Keep your government hands off my Medicare" cried the teabagger.
The teabaggers are killing what little credibility the GOP had left.

Steele and the Republicans must grow a pair or they will be replaced by people who are not afraid to stand up to and obstruct in very way possible, when necessary the marxists currently in power. That means bye bye McCain and Gramnesty, for starters. We the People are NOT putting up with the status quo RINOs any longer, period.
pay attention to whats said in this site about Marxist capitalism .. tell me that the world economic collapse was not staged to uhser in the new wave of eugenics ????

Oh yes, the ignorant raise their ugly heads again.
I do enjoy your posts
I agree whole heartedly, Cowboy. We might broaden the scope of your suggestion with a Constitutional amendment that Congress shall not exempt themselves from any law that affects the people of the United States.
Of course, this presupposes that they follow the Constitution, and so far I haven't seen it.
anon is the reason why the lobotomy was made illegal. If he believes what he is saying than the ignorance in some quarters of the US knows no bounds.
It is rather amusing that the Republicans with the biggest balls are women: Bachman and Palin.

And their best idea to fix the fraud is to have 'secret shoppers'??? Give me an effing break!!
Congressional Ethics is an oxymoron.
The best way for the government to stop fraud in the healthcare system is to get the HELL out of the health care system.
God you are so stupid.
The Democrats will counterattack by claiming that this is a givaway to big, evil insurance companies. They are more opposed to private business than they are to the poor not having insurance, in spite of the fact that the insurance companies would benefit from and have crafted their legislation, not to mention their campaign contributions.
We need to emphasize enhanced competition between private businesses, encourage the development of private non-employer based options, put coverage decisions in the hands of the consumer, and make clear that health care must not become an entitlement.
The whole reason we are even having a debate about health care is because we have been told we have a CRISIS in the skyrocketing costs of insurance! Oh NO!!!!! People can't afford it!! People are going without because they can't afford it!! There are deaths, here. And several sob stories which prove it.
The irony? None of the bills presented fix the problem of cost and actually cause costs to continue to grow. If that is not a symbol of the complete fustercluck we have in DC right now and in the Whitehouse, I really don't know what is.
I do pity you. You missed out on Gods greatest gift. That thing between your ears…It’s called a brain. Much like a muscle when it get used it gets stronger. If you put your progressive talking points down and exercised your grey matter, you may be able to articulate something better than the drool that rolls from your tongue. If you wish to be lazy, then close your flapper and keep your drool to yourself.
Should he do so, it may open the door for charges of treason. Once that door is open, pandora will have a healthy jump on the subversive element in congress.

You've got to be kidding me, liberal! It's because of morons like you that we give free health care to illegal aliens who are bankrupting our hospitals. We will indeed hold to our convictions. They can't jail all of us. Our prisons are already overcrowded. One-third of the prisoners in my state are illegal aliens. JUST SAY NO to Obamacare!
Agreed. They are leaving it to the troops to spread the message and as a result, look like disorganized cowards.
Great plan Mr. Del Baccaro! The only flaw I see is exposing the poseurs ensconced within the GOP and RNC and neutralizing them so that someone with some common sense, patriotism, and the courage of their convictions can lead the way. I have not seen that person yet … any suggestions?
I like this. Free Market solution, simple.
Great contrast. People are really feeling oppressed right now.
In all seriousness, how can anyone even remotely expect the Federal Government to run something as complicated as Health Care, consisting of 17% of the economy. A number of years back, the Feds seized the Mustang Ranch and ran it into the ground. That wasn't nearly as complicated as Health Care, it was a simple whorehouse across the creek.

Now that BO has changed the dates of his vacation, ut oh, watch out the POTUS is stomping his feet again! The longer this goes on the more I see children – much as a 3 year old with beg and plead to get their way – it is utterly nauseating and it has gone beyond the point of what any reasonable person can tolerate. And anon you f*wit, do tell why this joke hasn't passed yet?
I would think the constitutionality would be an issue here. If the progressives were to get it passed, the first act should be petitioning the SCOTUS for an injunction against implementation. As 36 states have or are drafting legislation to exempt their citizens from this onerous bill, I think that would have great weight in determination of legality. The upcoming vote is merely a face-saving gesture and I for one plan to stay in their face.
Love it!
I remeber that. The irs took it over because of back taxes and attempted to run it themselves. they couldnt even sell women and whisky. i live in nevada and remember it well.
Democrat strategy in three steps:
Fire
???
???
Then enforce them…duh.
Why do we need the Gov't to get their claws on complete control of Heath care for 300+ million people when it's just as easy for them to twist and tweak existing policy to alleviate the pain the private sector is feeling? It sounds like something a Marxist would do.
Oh wait…
More like:
Vote
???
???
They admit that they don't know what's in the bill.
Agreed that the primary credit goes to the Tea Partiers. But also to Limbaugh, Levine, and the rest of the talkers who have faught tooth and nail to defeat this. Also, give credit to Breitbart, Fox, and the rest of the up and coming media.

Great Idea Harry, especially since they are a necessity item and non-Prodoction. Still, they are a Corp, licensed to do business and earn a profit.
Why can't it be stopped with our 10th Amendment, which they are violating? Isn't this a "no-brainer"?
Saw recent ad that has a colorful pie chart. The pie chart indicates that hospitals consume the bulk of the health care dollars. The solution to that is, more hospitals. Obviously they don't have enough competition.
What are they going to do? Build special prisons for people who refuse to buy government insurance? Would they be like debtors prisons used to be in England?
It's funny how I'll abdicate my responsibility to buy health care, something I've always done since I could afford it, once the government forces me to do it. They can kiss my @ss!
It reminds me of the movie The Money Pit. Only instead of just two people going under with cost, it's all 300 million of us.
Here we go again. The current system is broken. That is right, broken. Hospitals and the government pass down the costs of the uninusered to the persons who have health insurance and pay taxes. I know this is a hard truth, but if you do not have health insurance, you are part of the problem. An HSA. I am LMAO. My son's proton radiation treatment cost $250,000. Better start saving. More and more businesses are dropping their insurance coverage because of costs. So, this means, the rates keep going up because there is a smaller pool. I have a question for all you smart people, who do you think pays the cost of the uninsured? Hmmmm. I know. Santa Claus.
Anon, you have your name spelled wrong. It's I-D-I-O-T.
So the solution to the problem is for the government to meddle with the system even more? Government is a large part of what broke it, so more of that fixes it? Please! Get a clue.
"What are they going to do? Build special prisons for people who refuse to buy government insurance?"
Probable start with taking your property. And if you think they can't you've obviously had no experience with the IRS.
It's actually quite simple. Simply throw a lien on any property you own.
And why wouldn't you simply keep the insurance you have?
God you people are stupid.
Mr. Del Becarro, you are a new founder and true Patriot. Your articles need to get into all media. Call to Action for all TEA Parties, let's get Mr. Del Becarro's articles out.

Shouldn't preventing waste, fraud and abuse be the job of the people running Medicare??? Fire them all and get some people that will do their job!
In the private sector waste, fraud and abuse get stopped in their tracks.
This isn't rocket surgery!!
I was thinking three steps off a two step bridge.
No. I never said that. As far as who needs to get a clue, answer the question moron. Who do you think picks up the tab for the uninusered. The Easter Bunny?

How true. I just sent both my GOP Senators letters thanking them for voting yes on the lastest round of spending. They just can't seem to say no to spending money that we don't have. I'll be voting aginst both of them as soon as I can.
I thought some Republican would come out of the closet and fill in the void, but have seen nothing yet that makes me want to get real excited about the 2012 election.
I totally agree. Did anyone else get that solicitation from the RNC whining about not renewing membership? It actually asks for comments so I commented. They are trying to play nice with people who redefine the word minute by minute to suit their purposes. When one is dealing with a bully one must stand up and be strong not slink to the side of the sandbox hoping he will go away. This is a really pivotal time in our republic, We The People know what to do. It's time for the GOP/RNC to man up or get out of the way.
Passing a bill with lies and treachery is no way for a country to act.
Cowboy, this is Janet. Stop it!
rhino we need to VOTE!!! Let each and every member representing you know they are outa here in Nov. then we'll see some action. We still have the vote, we need to use it.
Yes.
I believe in giving credit where credit is due.
Wherein Madame Pelosi stuck her brogan shoe in her mouth last summer, stating the Tea Partiers were "astroturf", it has rolled forward, gathering more momentum with each passing day. People are angry, and they aren't going to shut up and go home.
Granted, talk radio, and talk TV opinion shows have done alot to get the message out, but the Tea Partiers are the front line footsoldiers. They are the ACORN community organizers for the right. That is what torques the left off so bad. Never has such a colorful gaggle of misfits accomplished so much, other than the original American Revolution. Sometimes, when I look at Tea Party crowds, it reminds me of a Grateful Dead concert.
Because, moron, the insurance I have will only last for a few years before it too is altered by the new rules and becomes a behemoth eating up roughly 1/5 of our yearly income to maintain, by mandate. This is always assuming that my husband's employer continues to carry insurance as the rates go up.
When honest people are discussing taking out a legal divorce in order to dodge the onerous mandated cost of family insurance because the mandated rates for individuals are so much lower. Then you start to look at paying the tax penalty, also much cheaper than the mandated yearly premium.
Sorry, I don't work five days/week so that the income of 1 1/2 of those days goes to government as taxes, the income of one of those days goes to insurance (forced on me by government), and I'm left with the yield of only 2 to 2 1/2 days with which to try to scrimp a living for me and mine.
Stupid people are ones who support a plan that will only make costs go up, for everyone.
I have been Independent all my life, yet have always supported the RNC. No more. I told them bluntly to kiss my ass. I'll never give another dime to them. Steele needs to go get a job as a janitor.
"the insurance I have will only last for a few years"
Because Rush says so? Is that how it is?
The exchanges expand choices you imbecile. It is today that folks have no choices. Including the choice of getting treatment where one chooses. The insurance companies have taken care of that.
God you people are stupid.
So, take a moment and think about what you said yourself. Insurance companies pass the cost to us, and we know how government is cost effective in so many ways. If you believe that I have some swamp land in Az. to sell you.
The short fact is that the U.S. federal govt. does not do anything well enough that it should be allowed to do very much at all.
Re-elect no one
Amen brother. I find it really interesting and rather amazing how Americans of all stripes have come together to oppose more and more of what this administration is trying to do. Gives me great hope for our future. I've wondered just how many of these congress-cretins will have to lose their cushy jobs in Nov before the rest sit up and pay attention. The elections in Va/Nj/Ma recently gave some indication. Now We The People must keep the pressure on…..vote!
You know that old adage about power corrupting and absolute power corrupting absolutely? Well thats whats happened. Even the best of people can be tempted by the power/perks these bozos vote for themselves. Thats why they don't listen. They've lost ALL contact with the reality we all live in. Well come Nov they will be in contact cause many of them will be looking for jobs. And I will bet the ones left will be paying much more attention to the will of their employers.
The fact remains that big insurance by refusing care to patients and reimbursement to doctors over typos has ticked everyone off. They have a monopoly over the whole process and a well financed lobby team (including Lieberman's wife) and representatives on both sides of the isle.
A friend of mine recently laid off just he and his spouse is paying $2,500.00 dollars a month for his COBRA. Health insurance costs more than his mortgage. Anyone taking up the insurance industry's cause doesn't know what they are talking about.
If you think the insurance companies are going to voluntarily lower their cost while having a monopoly over the process – you are being disingenuous …Over 60% of all US bankruptcies are attributable to medical problems. Most victims are middle class, well educated and have health insurance – (The American Journal of Medicine)
The insurance companies and their representatives in Congress would love to perpetuate a business model that is crippling our overall economy – a bunch of great Americans aren’t they?
90% of the wealth concentrated in 1% of the population is no way to run a country but a heck of a way to establish a royalty ruling class. Yacht sales can not sustain 350 million people. I'm for the public option, competition and a level playing field or break up the big insurers like we did AT&T.
A slavish focus on profit margin might be good for the individual or a business, but it is one helluva lousy way to "govern" a Country. The GOP and the major media outlets being wholly owned subsidiaries of Corporate America have a hard time with that concept.

Best comment I've read in a long time.
I just sent it to Micheal Steele.
I'm an RN. I work in a hospital ER. I can tell you the mandates from government have been flying at us fast and furious and that is only at the direct patient care level. I can only imagine what is going on in medical records, the pharmacy etc. The best solution to the "health care crisis" is to get the government OUT OF OUR WAY!
Sorry.
I'll report to Room 101.
