California Democrats Ignore Brown Win: Vote For Bankruptcy

An oversimplification to be sure, but that sentiment was not far from the minds of the Massachusetts voters. Already laboring under a bad state imposed health care system, in spectacular fashion, they rejected ObamaCare and elected Scott Brown to a “people’s seat.”
In California, that lesson apparently went unnoticed for California Democrats. Less than 48 hours after the dust settled from the Brown triumph, California Democrats voted for a State imposed “universal” health care plan. In other words, a state run health care system that would bar private insurance.
Keep in mind that California is already amidst a chronic and prolonged budget crisis brought on by runaway spending and exorbitant taxing. Perennially listed among the worst states in our Union to do business, California features 10%+ income taxes and the highest regulatory burden around. So imposing are the costs to business in California, despite its ports and natural resources, Nevada and its desert is #1 in the Country in new business development.
As Congressman Tom McClintock famously says, only government policy could convince people and business to relocate from lush California to the barren deserts of Nevada. The practical result of those anti-job polices is that California now has a revenue problem. Just 3 years ago revenues were in the $125 billion dollar range. Now they are in the $85+ billion dollar range. In other words, government has created a revenue problem by killing off jobs and, without those jobs, there are less taxpayers, less income tax and less sales tax.
Rather than make California job friendly again – and thereby increase government revenues through sales taxes and new income taxes from new jobs – California Democrats offer nothing but tax hikes and even more regulation. And now this.
The estimated cost of the Democrats California Health Care bill is over $210 billion dollars a year! Nearly 250% more than the existing state revenues. But wait – there is more – or less depending on how you think about it. The Democrats don’t even have a funding mechanism in place to pay for their bill. Instead, they want to create a committee (itself costing $1 to $2 million) to come up with a funding mechanism. Of course, that means a government committee to devise a tax scheme to pay for government bureaucracy.
When this bill was considered before, the Democrats claimed that they would raise billions upon billions of dollars thorough new taxes and fees. However, the “non-partisan” Legislative Analyst’s Office, predicted that the new fees and taxes would result in added deficits of over $40 billion per year, i.e. over 40% of the current budget.
In truth, the deficits would be far worse because there is not $200 billion or $100 billion or even $25 billion more to collect from California tax payers. They are already over taxed and over regulated -which is why so many have left the state, or are unemployed, and the government has a revenue problem today.
But don’t tell the Democrats in Sacramento that. They are going to govern us whether we like it or not – at least until November that is and California may have its own 4th of July.

Mark my words; just as the Okies and others, leaving the hopelessness of the Dust Bowl settled, and contributed to make California the great State that it once was, there will be a reverse of the Dust Bowl. It will be a mass exodus from California. Already, the San Joaquin Valley is turning back to dust, because of failed environmentalist policies. The current exodus from California? You ain't seen nothin' yet.
By the time this is over, Madame Pelosi will be one of the few left. It is sad. For who is gonna pick her grapes?
Actually this is very good news for most California residents. When they see first hand that tax burdens DOUBLE to pay for the "universal health care" debacle (including the illegals) THEY WILL REVOLT vis a vis Scott Brown. Hang in there, California, the Tea Partiers are going to rescue you from the bonds of progressive liberalism. Impeach AHNOLD !

They have so many social programs & so little industry it's no wonder they are on the verge of total collapse. When the Attornet General came out a few months ago after looking @ options to turn California back into a territory again people there should be waking up. The problem is they seem to be waking up @ noon & missing what is happening. They have no reason to get up & go to work even of there was jobs in the state. Too many wacko's, crack addicts, heroin addicts, failed wanna be movie stars & movie stars that make you think they care by throwing money @ something with no oversight. They are liars. They brainwashed the masses in Ca. & no the elites can just focus on themselves like they wanted to begin with. All this fixing the state stuff is killing their buzz from the Medicinal hippie lettuce they have been smoking.
The problem will get worse as illegal immigrants keep flowing through the porous borders. They are already overwhelming the state government in California.
I predict there will be a large push by the progressives to allow amnesty this year before the elections. It's their only shot at building a voting base that will keep them in office.

My old boss moved our company from Chicago to Santa Barbara and seemed shocked that I wouldn't follow him. Santa Barbara is an amazing place but you couldn't pay me to live in California. Two years later he is looking to move everything back to Chicago. Pretty amazing when you consider that its 75 degrees in Santa Barbara today and -10 in Chicago.

Er, i thought in america states can act as states independent of each other. I don't like the California plan because there's no way to pay for it, but each state is totally entitled to ignore what is happening in other states around the country.

I prefer closed borders and deportation of all illegals. Basic immigration needs to be 100% suspended until we have a stable economy with very low (2 or 3%) unemployment. It just toally boggles my mind that Sacramento would even plan a picnic with their financial issues, let alone a "health care plan". What is in the water over there? The email going around about a trial before Judge Carter on 1/16/10 is erroneous. Judge Carter ruled against Taitz, etal because they filed an action that over reached his jurisdiction, involved matters that could not be ruled on for lack of 'standing' and that lawsuit was dismissed on the motion from the federal goverment back in October 2009. Check up on it because I have seen the ruling the court (30 pages).

Its amazing to me. I live in New Mexico along I40. Doesnt matter what day of the week, month or season. For the last 3 years, every day when I'm driving east on I40 theres at least one rent-a-truck pulling a trailer with a california license plate car on the trailer. Just an observation from one person, but I think there's an obvious lesson here.

I live in Fresno and this morning's unemployment numbers for our area are hovering at 16%. Water is slated to be cut even more from the Westlands Water District because the sneaky people who wrote the CVPIA included a "turbidity" clause… if there is so much water (i.e., excess rainfall) in the Valley, they can't pump water to the farms because the sediment kicked up in the Delta will harm the Delta Smelt. This is a government of the bureaucrats, by the lawyers and for the politically connected. Will Arnold veto the bill? We are already 20 billion in the hole. I'm going back to Arizona, I guess.
You are right, but I bet most of the hollywood activists that come out in mass for the socialists candidates, don't file their taxes in California. I am sure most are residents of states with lower or no tax.. They may have residences here, but other than property taxes, I am sure they are well insulated against our laws.

Do you suppose this is some sort of half-baked plan to get the government to "bail out" CA's health care program, have the fed. take it over because it is too big to fail, and then extend it to the rest of the country—thereby effectively going around the Congress? I know there has to be laws against that, it sounds really far fetched, and my 9 year old probably would have thought of it, but at this point maybe they're trying to play "crazy like a fox". Just wondering.

Well, when California collapses under her own weight, perhaps people will take note…My fear is that the Feds will try to bail them out, and we will begin to see the complete destruction of state sovereignty as we know it. I'm glad I live in Indiana, but I wish Mitch Daniels would start to look beyond our state border and see what is happening on a federal level.
