CA Flash Point for Obama? Republican Uses Unique Strategy In Run For Congressional Seat
by Thomas Del BeccaroThe San Francisco Bay Area may just prove to be the 3 am the wake call the Obama Administration doesn’t want. This November 3, a potential trend setting – special election – is taking place in Congressional District 10. CD 10 is the old Ellen Tauscher (D) seat she vacated when she became #3 in the State Department.
It is a battle featuring a Big Government Liberal, aka John Garamendi, and the Republican David Harmer who is employing an interesting, new strategy. Before I get to Harmer: I know what you are thinking: The SF Bay Area? A Republican pick up? The answer quite possibly could be YES.
Polling shows the race just outside the margin of error and the Generic Congressional ballot is even closer. With one month to go (1) enthusiasm is running high among Harmer supporters and (2) John Garamendi is a classic target for a rebound election.
According to Garamendi, we have to “change the mindset” of Californians on Prop 13 – the landmark property tax reform passed by the CA voters in 1978 to keep higher property taxes from running people out of their homes. Garamendi wants to end Prop 13 as we know it and the two-thirds majority vote needed for the CA Legislature to pass a budget or levy taxes. He also supports higher income taxes “without apology” – most of the time. Recently, however, he was caught double dealing on the issue as highlighted by this Harmer Campaign video. Beyond that, Garamendi wants “European-style” health care for America.
Get the picture? Garamendi would be classic vote for old-line liberal causes – a replacement for Ted Kennedy if you will.
David Harmer, on the other hand, is a conservative who wants to win that seat (1) by exposing Garamendi’s record and (2) by rolling out the innovative Harmer Pledge.
The 3-part Harmer Pledge is a direct challenge to Garamendi.
Harmer proposes to:
1. Grow the economy not Government.
2. Balance the budget by controlling spending – not by raising taxes.
3. Help Small Business grow and become the engine of economic recovery.
In the weeks to come, Harmer will be using Talk Radio, the Internet and good ole’ fashion counter protests to see if Big Government Garamendi will take the pledge.
Still think Harmer can’t win – even with that strategy? Then ask yourself why Bill Clinton had to come declare his support for Garamendi – and the best part? Clinton did it outside the district – perhaps in deference to the fact that carpet-bagger Garamendi lives outside the district.
Keep an eye on this race.

The new taxes were voted down unamimously this year by a landslide in California. Everyone here in California has had it up the kazoo with taxes…people and business are moving out by the droves. I expect a no-tax, pro-buisness Republican to do very well.

Oh My!
Off topic but I wanted everyone to see this video:

The first caller is just scary – he really would kill for Obama. Unfortunately, a lot of folks think people like that are just "joking" – I assure you he is not.

I like it already!

I like it already! What can be done with Pelozi, Boxer, and Frankenstien?
Well good, but I have a question. Does Harmer believe in the Constitution of the United States. You know the one For the People by the People, I mean to the letter straight down the line, believe in the Constitution. There are already too many RINOs in Govt. already.

1. yawn
2. yawn

Yes, disappointing the Constitution wasn't metioned.
Gee, wonder how the MSM will manage not to notice the loss of a Democratic House seat in SAN FRANCISCO? They will have to perform some extraordinary gyrations to explain how it's somehow Bush's fault
I have an answer for that, but it would get the FBI at more in abo0ut 30 minutes. (evil joke)
Just traded Barbara Boxer for John Kyl! Love living in a Republican state for the first time in my life! If things don't change in CA, many more will follow!
Just the fact that this is even a close race is already a step in the right direction, if not a win.
"Clinton did it outside the district – perhaps in deference to the fact that carpet-bagger Garamendi lives outside the district."
Garamendi's listed as Walnut Creek, which is in CA 10. Doesn't he really live there?

Regardless, good luck to Mr. Harmer.
A seminal moment for Obama, where they will advance to the rear. Pardon the pun. Speaking of members from outside the district, this sound akin to the carpetbagging Bronx Congressman Grayson- in Florida.

If Harmer does win, don't expect a peep out of CNN
OMG. If republicans wins this cycle, liberals need stronger medication.
Garamendi is a classic liberal, Harmer sounds nothing like a classic liberal. Too bad Harmer doesn't mention the constitution in any of this 3 points, but he is trying to get elected in San Francisco, where you can probably get the constitution printed on toilet paper in bulk. The people of San Francisco are a classic example of people who are so think they're smart and therefore they are stupid. They think they can't be fooled and fall for classic doublespeak like "We have to change people's mindset"— WHAT THE HELL DOES THAT MEAN?! HONEST I CAN'T STAND THAT MEALY MOUTHED BULL TRASH ANYMORE BUT OBAMA GETS ELECTED ON THAT GARBAGE!
Yep, you got that right. FOX will be the only one to report it–that's a fact.
There are no psychological victories here. You either have the votes in Congress or you don't. Right now, the Republicans don't. Let's hope if they ever do get back in power they remember who put them there.

If America is to be saved, it can be done only by putting into office, at every level of government, only those people who, like our founding fathers, believe so firmly in the principles of freedom set forth by our founders, that they are willing to risk all, including their lives, to once again remove the dictatorial hand of government, and keep the nation free for every individual

Please Californians, vote for this man so I can be proud of my former Marin County, and state of California. Land of Ronald Reagan & the original Spanish missions.
Caint you just see Keith Olber-stein and Chris Jugg-Head Matthews? They'll both have an attack of "The Vapors" and poor confused Rachel Maddow's will be "Twitterpated".
Walnut Creek is known as Rich Vanilla Valley. I loved living there and I am a strict constitutional conservative.
There is a New Name for a Party: Constitutional Conservatives
All, contribute to this guys campaign.
Obama's Power Grab to Shut Down The Internet:
The Internet Takeover Bill (S. 773) is threatening to "unplug" private networks from the Internet on the order of the President and dismantle the online army we've worked so hard to build.
The sponsors of the Bill? The nornam cast of characteristic thugs: Jay Rockerfeller (D-WV), Member of the Trilatteral Commission and Member of the Council on Foreign Relations; Evan Bayh (D-IN); Bill Nelson (D-FL) and of course Olympia Snoe (R-ME).
Oh yes, they lay out there: it is for the National Good. National good my ass; knowledge is power, and they fear the serfs are gaining too much knowledge.
Watch for Borat to "manufacture" a crisis. Joe Biden even told US there would be a crisis. Remember when he "predicted" the young Presidente' would be "tested" soon after coming into office?

You've heard of Government Motors (GM)? Government plans to bailout Main Stream Media. 60 Billion in 3 years.
http://www.businessandmedia.org/specialreports/20...
Will they call it Pravda, or perhaps something more endearing, like the Kenyan Kronicle? I further wonder if any of these bailout funds be allocated to FOX News, as they are the enemy? Perhaps the destruction of FOX will be hidden in the Defense Budget.
That is well said cowboy. I am through with moderates. I spent 10 1/2 years in the military believing in this country the way it was in the 50's and early 60's and NOT like what we have become or what I for-see as our future if we do not take a stand.
We need to set up a network of dial up BBS's ( remember those ) in case they do shut down the internet. At least we would still be able to communicate even though it wouldnt be the same.
Oh man… A conservative going to DC from the bay area.. This would be rich beyond words..!!
I thought I was the only one who saw the comic relief in this? Isn't it hilarious?
I think you've just seen the reason there is such a rush to get Health Care reform passed. Not only are the 2010 elections drawing close, but a Harmer victory would be seen as a defeat for Obama and his liberal agenda.
We need to make this happen…
This would be the trumpet call just before the cry "Havoc", and we let slip the dogs of war…
This would scare libtards to death…NO SEATS WOULD BE "SAFE"…

When Garmendi announced his candidacy and filed the papers he was living in that part of Walnut Creek that is still in California Congressional Distric 3 not 10. I can only assume that either he has suddenly discovered a better neighborhood a couple of yards away or its business as usual, like Lorena Sanchez having a "home" in Garden Grove.

Boy oh boy – a republican win like that would be one cold prostate exam for San Fran Lefties! Sah-Weeeet !!!!!
Part of me would like to keep some of our Republic of Moonbats, San Francisco, Berkeley another one, pristine and totally encapsulated like a wildlife preserve for future study, but, hey, if that's ruined by a Republican win so be it. I guess serious economic hardship has hit them which does wonders in getting ones priorities realigned.
Keep in mind though that San Francisco brought us Nancy Pelosi. Payback would be keeping their usual capricious libtard pols in power forever to suck their wallets dry. When the hard times are over, trust me, they will default back to their hubis and the fringe element they so dearly love.
No-Bama says he is looking for any way to create jobs,,,,well hells bells, how about stopping the runaway spending and lowering taxes….geesh

Can you imagine the backlash from the techies if they did so? Those guys live to fight back against authority. Expect pirate internet networks to start popping up.
No, Garamendi does NOT live in CA 10!
He is a pure carpetbagger from the state capitol, Sacramento, where he has lived off of the state government for decades!
Yep, how many billion is he wanting to be doled out to seniors to add to their social security? I have nothing against seniors but several hundred billion here and several hundred billion there … even 50 billion is 50 billion too much even if it were to be going to the worthiest cause or constituency in the world.
If it's going to be a close race, then Harmer will lose. Close races mean recounts and recounts means thousands of Democrat votes "mysteriously" appearing in some forgotten ballot box found in an ACORN office.
He could always start a big whore house with underage El Salvadoran Chicas. Probably get some biddness advice from A-PORN, get a grant from the NEA and do some catchy artwork to promote a nice little marketing campaign. Things are hard when starting a new business, but he coud always run it by hand, until it gets on its feet. Who knows, by the time he is halfway through his first year, he could win an award for "Entrepeneur of the Decade" from the Amerikanner Chamber of Commerce.
CA 10 is one strangly shaped district. There is little in common among the people in it. Some are 'city' dwelers, some are 'suburban' and a few are rural.
It will take more than 150k to win in the gerrymandered from heck district.
It would be fantastic if Harmer could actually win the election. I can't rule out voting fraud, especially in Liberal San Francisco however. Libs don't take kindly to possibly losing an election and will do anything they can to prevent it, including voter fraud.
Nah, they'll just never report it. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
I used to live in CD10. It is some way east of SF/Berkeley area; solidly suburban middle class and had been for a long time a reliably Republican district. Taucher first ran there as a moderate dem.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the same John Garamendai who screwed up the insurance sector in California and as Lt Gov has been part and parcel of the current governance disaster in the Golden State.
Given the mood of the mushy middle turning against endless activism by government and Garamendi's various vulnerabilities as 'part of the problem', Harmer's Pledge could even work. If this guy gets elected with this pledge, look for it to take on a central role in the 2010 cycle and for Mr Harmer to become an instant celebrity.
Boxer and Feinstein are viable targets but Pelosi, sadly, represents constituents from the birthplace of American Communism. She represents the left wing of the far left Democrats. There is almost no way she'll be booted out.
This would be a sea change for sure. Maybe, just maybe, the good people of California have had enough of radical leftist politics and are tired of the damage done to our Republic because of it.
I'm crossing my fingers, too.
Trust me, if they can blame Bush for Obama losing the Olympics, they can blame ANYTHING on Bush.
Trust me, if they can blame Bush for Obama losing the Olympics, they can blame ANYTHING on Bush.
It's the theory of red dye and nuclear war. My old debate coach in high school used to train the freshman by starting them off with a simple premise. Show how red dye causes nuclear war. Once they could logically argue that case with sources, they could argue anything. They're complete rediculous and unrelated, but the point is, you can blame anyone for anything. You're never wrong if you have sources and and a good argument.

As a true Conservative, I would never put my trust in a Republican any more. May I remind you all of the two biggest government expenses of the 21st century: the war in Iraq and TARP? Both are entirely the responsibility of the GOP.
We desperately need a third party.
Personally I hope the Republicans never get back in power. Or if they do, it's actually grass roots Constitutionalist that have taken over the party. And they serve a couple terms and then go home. Like they're supposed to.
Pelosi's lap dog (Charlie Gonzalez) happens to be my rep here in San Antonio. He actually said, at our last town hall, that the Constitution was a guideline. A GUIDELINE! These people are nothing but common criminals.
I live in the 10th District. I have no such hope. I live in a District populated by big L liberals. This race should be a no-brainer – but, I guess that's the problem. Very few operating brains here.
What are BBS's? I would be interested.
FOX is the only one that doesn't need a bailout.
I have met Mr. Harmer – he seems sincere. He worked at Pacific Legal Foundation and his father was Reagan's Lt. Governor.
A recent Twitter quote from him: "Help me preserve what our founding fathers have bequeathed us: a gov that confines itself to the enumerated powers set forth in the Constitution."

go to Harmerforcongress.com to see what you think.
But he can see District 10 from his back porch!
Garamendi lives in Walnut Grove, not Walnut Creek!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM6f7vdzXxE
"Change the mindset" on Prop 13? Wow, Garamendi must really think nobody is paying attention, or if they are, they don't understand what this means. Guess nobody in CA is supposed to stay in their home during retirement. I live in northern CA and I will not be surprised if this tool gets elected.
That third party, splitting votes with the Republicans every election, will keep the Democrats in power by the election result numbers for generations. Do you remember Ross Perot? He gave us Clinton.
There isn't anything wrong with our two party system. The Republican party needs reshaped from the grassroots up, how about putting your energy into that.
Of course he'll take the pledge. With a handful of sleeping conservative votes, he'll be in office. Then, of course, Pledge……what pledge.
He lives in Walnut Grove, a small town in the Delta area.
Ca-10, a seriously gerimandered district skips over Walnut Grove.
I hope it happens. (I fled from there a long time ago and have not looked back)
We need to over-run the Republican party with small goverment types in the primary, then the general election. The republican party is ripe for a real takeover from the libertarian leaning small government types.
We are losing our freedom one dollar at a time.
The third party shouldn't "split votes with the Republicans". It should take all votes away from them.
Oh, please, you are not getting it. In the time that would take the country would be completely trashed. Get real.
Get a grip, NJ will be re-electing Corzine again tonight thanks to the misguided third party split voters
I've begun to wonder if this lame third party meme isn't out of the mouths of Dem operatives. It works well for them.
Actually, it's not because of the third party split votes. It is because Chris Christie is a complete and utter idiot who cannot campaign to save his life, and also because of the NJ GOP who rejected Steve Lonegan.
New Jersey is a lost cause, always has been, and always will be. We need to focus on the state that we can really take on: Virginia.
Right on, Laura! Congrats! I left CA for Nevada 5 years ago. I will have the extreme pleasure of tossing out Reid next year
What has Marin County to do with District 10?
Time to turn the tide, Patriots…One Good Man (or Woman ) at a time…Reagan reminded us of our "God given right to choose our own destiny…" This is OUR OPPORTUNITY to make a difference. Will we KEEP our Freedom OR be telling our Grandchildren what it was like to grow up FREE? David was raised on Reagan Values with his Dad under Reagan as Lt. Governor. We won't get any closer to Reagan then that. PLEASE DONATE TO THE HARMER CAMPAIGN TODAY, especially if you are not part of the District like me…we can ALL be part of the Solution, Starting with Dist 10…and THIS WILL BE SOMETHING TO SHARE WITH OUR GRANDCHILDREN!…
Garamendi lives in Walnut not Walnut Creek…. he actually lives out side of the 10th district….. should explain just how arrogant the guy really is. It's time we all get behind a conservative in this district….. I'm so sick of the tax and spend bunch of thieves in Washington…. I've met David Harmer and he's the real deal…. get on board voters and put a good man in congress…..
David Harmer is a Constitutional attorney. We had him speak for a Constitution breakfast that Eagle Forum put on last September 12. He did a wonderful job! I was very impressed. His wife, father, father-in-law, and four children came as well, all really nice people. His father is John Harmer, the former Lt. Governor for Governor Ronald Reagan. I was impressed with him as well.
I know Harmer. He is a streight shooter. He beleives in the Constitution and practices it. He has a wonderful wife and 4 great kids. You half to hear him speak. There will be no dought in your mind about if he is the right guy to go to DC.
Dave Harmer supporter.
