Reagan Was Noble, But Obama Got the Prize
by Thomas Del BeccaroIn an age where style trumps substance in so many ways, few can be surprised that a fledging President would receive a Nobel Peace Prize. It bears repeating that Obama was President for just a matter of days before the nomination process was closed. Nevertheless, and without any substantive accomplishment, Obama was awarded the Prize – unanimously – apparently for things to come. No wonder 58% of Americans believe that politics was behind the choice.

By contrast, consider the accomplishment of Ronald Reagan who, last I checked, did not receive the Nobel Peace Prize. According to Margaret Thatcher, Reagan won the Cold War “without firing a shot.” In the words of Henry Kissinger, it was “the most stunning diplomatic feat of the modern era.” In the wake of that victory, millions upon millions of people were set free – and, as history has shown, a free people are far more likely to be a peaceful people.
So why didn’t Reagan get the Prize? The answer is simple, the political Left, including the Nobel committee, didn’t like the way Reagan went about setting people free. Reagan, we well remember, installed missiles in Europe. He did so because he believed what Thomas Jefferson told us long ago: “Whatever enables us to go to war, secures our peace.” Reagan, in time, would modernize Jefferson’s wisdom by advocating “peace through strength.”
The Left, to be sure, did not and does not believe in that. Indeed, at the time, former Vice President Walter Mondale stated that “Four years of Ronald Reagan has made this world more dangerous. Four more will take us to the brink.” It turns out that Mondale was wrong. Rather than danger, Reagan brought millions to the brink of freedom because shortly after the Reagan Presidency, the Berlin Wall fell.
The Left, during Reagan’s time, was similarly distressed by Reagan’s designation of the Soviet Union as an “Evil Empire.” After all, what Hope can there be in such language? The Soviet dissident, Natan Sharansky, stuck in a Soviet Gulag had some idea. According to Sharansky:
In 1983, I was confined to an 8-by-10-foot prison cell on the border of Siberia. My Soviet jailers gave me the privilege of reading the latest copy of Pravda. Splashed across the front page was a condemnation of President Ronald Reagan for having the temerity to call the Soviet Union an “evil empire.” By tapping on walls and talking through toilets, word of Reagan’s “provocation” quickly spread throughout the prison. We dissidents were ecstatic. Finally, the leader of the free world had spoken the truth — a truth that burned inside the heart of each and every one of us.
Reagan may have confused names and dates, but his moral compass was always good. Today’s leaders, in contrast, may know their facts and figures, but are often woefully confused about what should be the simplest distinctions between freedom and tyranny, democrats and terrorists.
The legacy of Reagan will surely endure. Armed with moral clarity, a deep faith in freedom, and the courage to follow his convictions, he was instrumental in helping the West win the Cold War and hundreds of millions of people behind the Iron Curtain win their freedom.
Contrast that, if you will, with Nobel Prize winner, Barrack Obama who bowed before a foreign dictator, withdrew missile deployments, and, in the face of an obviously rigged Iranian election designed to crush the peaceful aspirations of Iranians seeking Liberty, stated that “It’s not productive, given the history of U.S.-Iranian relations, to be seen as meddling … in Iranian elections.”
In light of that, ask yourself whose foreign policy has been more productive? Ask the millions of now free Eastern Europeans who was more Noble. I am quite certain they prize their freedom, as would Ronald Reagan, far more than Obama’s false prize.

"Reagan was Noble, but Obama got the prize?"
That summed up everything quite succinctly, in one headline. No further comments are necessary.
'Nuff said.
NO-Bama getting the Nobel Peace Prize shows how people think intentions mean everything while action means nothing. It is all upside down and backwards today.
Few can be surprised? I do not think the WTF?-ness has worn off yet, and many were surprised, including Barry. And after his hopefully-expected failures on health scare reform and "climate change" legislation, that feeling may yet grow.
Would it be racist to wonder why they felt they had to give the first African-American President some gold bling?
Since I will be called a racist anyway, do I even care anymore?
After all, it is not like he is vain enough to actually wear the thing…
There should be no shock here with the Nobel "committee"…. In lock step with the liberal mantra…. It's not the RESULTS that count….. only the good intention. Obama wins.. America loses !
In 2010 it's the other way around, of course ! America wins and president PUTZ loses ! Happy days again soon !
Be careful. Get it out of you system now. Pelosi and Reid are trying to sneak language into the Healthcare Bill, legislating that ANYONE making racist comments, or commenting negatively on the Green/Environmental movement will immediately be branded as hate criminals, and be subject to hate crime legislation.
Ain't this all a crock of shit?

Carter, Gore — and now Obama?! Noble doesn not = Nobel
Bring it on.
I am damned sick and tired of people telling me what and where I can talk and speak my mind.
I am fully armed and ready. If they want to come to my house and try to tell me what I can say, they best bring a body bag with them cause they sure as hell will need it when they leave in it.
Gold bling?
Like a Mister T starter set?
Thanks for writing this article and for including the quote from Natan Sharansky. Our future is to insure that the truth isn't 'revised' out of history. As for Bar'aq al Hussein winning the Nobel, I think this farce will help end the influence these Norse Socialists have. Being the Socialists that they are, where do they keep getting money, anyway?
Stay focused people …. We have a long way to go and they plan on dropping most fo that stimlus money in 2012 – who would have saw that coming ….Stay infomed, read about history… hit them with facts – they hate that the most!!!!
Well it is suspended by a ribbon, he would have to upgrade it to a chain…

Obama should send a mother of one of our fallen to pick up the Nobel Peace Prize!!

After a few days of thinking about this, I have come to the conclusion that the President, no matter how undeserving of this once worthwhile prize, cannot be faulted for having it bestowed upon him. I do believe that he was surprised by the award, and that the lunacy was not of his doing.
Having said that, the question becomes whether he ought to accept it. And I must conclude that he should not. One of the premises was that he recognizes that the leader of the world will lead based upon values shared by the majority of the world's people. This is a distinctly Un-American attitude. This country rests on a philosophical foundation of Universal and Eternal Truths. Whether these are, at any one time, accepted or rejected by the majority of the world's populace is irrelevant. The Truths remain. To accept the award is to accept the flawed premise upon which it was bestowed. He must decline.
My God – Obama has no business as Commander in Chief !!!!!!
I want to know who nominated him.
"didnt deserve it" merit dosent matter to socialists, Odumba believes in affirmative action dosent he, so whether he earned it or not never crossed his mind, just another quota had to be met. The socialist boob thinks the way to run an economy is a system of political favors, i mean socialism has a great record of success, hitler, polpot, stalin, mao. The prez is a total idiot!
I equate Obama winning the Noballs Peach Prize with visiting a liberal blog. It can all be summed up with three words, liberal love fest.
Guess. You think the "bling" came for free? HA!
I would classify that as a liberal cluster f… Well, you get where I'm going.
when you consider what the prize patrol is looking for in a winner, the right dude won: "in his 1895 will, Alfred Nobel stipulated that the peace prize should go "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations and the abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses."
anyone willing to reduce MY standing armies (or take away my bombs for that matter) is EXACTLY who the norwegians want.
~~After a few days of thinking about this, I have come to the conclusion that the President, no matter how undeserving of this once worthwhile prize, cannot be faulted for having it bestowed upon him.~~
I respectfully disagree. I'm sure Soros had a lot to do with this and a few pieces of silver exchanged hands. The joker needed this accolade to satiate his narcisstic personality because his ratings have been so abysmal.
Political correctness makes me want to vomit.
"I talk about the situation where (Columbus) didn't even realize where he was," Kolowith said. "And we talked about how he was very, very mean, very bossy."
'In McDonald, Pa., 30 miles southwest of Pittsburgh, fourth-grade students at Fort Cherry Elementary put Columbus on trial this year — charging him with misrepresenting the Spanish crown and thievery. They found him guilty and sentenced him to life in prison.
"In their own verbiage, he was a bad guy,"'
'The students were forced to stand in a cafeteria and not allowed to eat while other students teased and intimidated them — apparently so they could better understand the suffering indigenous populations endured because of Columbus'
'"Do you think it would be good to take babies on a long and dangerous boat ride?" he asked the class. "No!" they replied.'

This is the tripe taught in schools today?
I swear to God this is not the same county I grew up in.
These words stood out for me:
"Reagan had a moral compass."
Dear God, please give us a leader like that again.
I disagree.
He definitely asked for it, not explicitly, but implicitly. His entire "career" has been about showmanship, style and the plausible deniability of having his believers tastelessly advocate and attack for him so he can retain the facade of humbleness and morality (definitely a reader of "The Prince").
The Nobel Committee awarding him this prize is their way of obeying the mores that rest of the media and entertainment industry have swallowed up – directly at the encouragement of Obama and his thugs.
Make no mistake, he definitely wanted this and encouraged these actions by building himself up as a larger-than-life leftist icon, the only problem he has with this is that it makes his phoniness entirely too obvious and it may make others wonder what other affirmative action awards he's been handed his entire life (e.g. the Presidency).
I have recently decided that I am going to change races. I'm going to go job-hunting and put my race as African-American. If I don't get the job, I'm going to sue the company. I'm going to apply for State and Fed. Government jobs. I think I'll put in for the United Negro College Fund while I'm at it and go back to college. They will have to prove I'm not black. Maybe I'll be black for a year and write a book about it. Any publishers out there willing to pay me BEFORE I write my first book?
circle jerk.
In fact, you should get the Nobel Prize for Literature even before it is written!
If you look at what the Nobel Peace Prize really is and who it's been awarded to over time, it would be an insult to Ronald Reagan if he was awarded it.
Love the name, Odumba! Yes, socialism has SOOOOOOOOOOOO much freedom!
You have any basis for this claim, or doesn't it matter?
I keep hearing that Obama hasn't completed any of his campaign promises.
Well, that's simply wrong.
He got the puppie he promised his kids.
Really? I would agree with Locust (below) in a more metaphysical sense, that he asked for it. And while I wouldn't put it past him in a concrete, transactional sense, I think it does him no good at this point. Even most MSM suggest that he has done nothing to "earn" it. I would have thought they would wait at least a year to buy it for him.
LEL
Great idea—do it.
Of course it was political. Everyone knows the Nobel people are left wingers…thats no secret.
The should call it the Nobel Appeasement Prize. Or the Neville Chamberlien Award.
Were your parents citizens and were you born here? Put down "Native American" instead. I hear that is becoming a popular choice for the Census!
I think that's one of the aspects of the Left that infuriates me the most (right after their astonishingly short-term memory which allows them to regularly engage in shameless hypocrisy) – they trumpet the power of words, and yet when it really counts, they use their words to the detriment of all. Do they really believe that those people suffering in political prisons will be heartened by Obama's charitable words for their jailers? Who is it that his words are meant to aid and inspire? In nations where freedom of speech is enjoyed, these sorts condemn those who would see that freedom spread to others, calling such unilateral notions "imperialist" and "arrogant". In nations where free expression is censured, President Obama and his ilk play along with the dictator's game, shake his hand, pretend that all is well and that we are great friends, and then go home to receive the accolades of their "diplomacy" from their admirers. All the while, injustice continues unabated.
When true change for the better comes, I don't expect it to come from the do-nothings of the Left. I do, however, expect them to take credit for it.
Up is down and down is up.
Reagan gets a prize? For polarizing our country or selling it to corporations?
OBAMA’S PRIZE IS ABOUT AS MEANINGFUL AS CHILD CRAYON SCRIBBLINGS ON THE NAUGAHYDE SEATS OF A CHEAP DINER IN A FORGOTTEN BACKWATER TOWN SOMEWHERE IN MAINE NEAR THE CANADIAN BORDER.

Yes, it matters. It matters very much to me. Does it matter to you?
Sometimes, on rare occasions I question my stance on abortion. Particularly when trolls like you voice an irrelevant opinion.
I wonder, now that Barry Soetero has won the Noble Piece Prize, do you reckon he might share some of his windfall with his brother George in the mud hut in Kenya? Hell, he could buy George a used doublewide. Maybe even move him on up to a deluxe apartment in the Chicago skyline………….
It does. Your source is bogus. It has no basis in fact. It's hard to believe that people believe this sort of ridiculousness. But I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
Frankly, I do not believe anything, from anyone, unless I research it out. You did not have enough time, from the time I posted that link, to read it in its entirety. You just automatically dismissed it, out of hand with a claim it was bogus. That won't wash.
Speaking of ridiculous, you people take the cake. Tell your queen Pelosi to post the fucking bill on the internet so we ALL can read it in its entirety. If there is no one in the Capital who can figure out how to post it online, let me know, I'll have my grandson do it.
Here's the House Bill, Cowboy. It wasn't too hard to find. Grab yourself a cup of coffee and start reading. When you find the part about hate crimes, let me know.
http://edlabor.house.gov/documents/111/pdf/public...
I've read it. Have you?
Two posts ago you wanted the bill posted on the internet so you could read it in its entirety. I gave you the link and your response is that you've already read it. The "Logic" part of your name seems to be a misnomer. Whatever. Since you've read it in its entirety, why don't you tell me on what page I can find the part about hate crimes. If you don't, I'll assume there is nothing in the bill about hate crimes and that you're full of shit.
I agree.

B'rock and his brother, B'roke Obama…
Those words from Sharansky just about tore me up. What bravery, imprisoned for no good reason, yet able to take comfort in our President's words.
We owe a major debt of gratitude to President Ronald Wilson Reagan.
Is this maybe what Cowboy Logic actually had in mind?
House attaches hate-crimes measure to defense funding bill
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing...
but what did he actually DO?
How about for helping to bring abou tthe ebd of the cold war?!?! And it you want to talk about polarizing? What has Obama & his stupid Health "Care" bill done????HMMMM?
Atleast he wasn't a christian hater like Tommy Jefferson.
and yes I know i made typing mistakes – I had a problem with my computer
oops – I just GOT what you said…sorry (DOH)
Could be. I'm not sure he knows what he has in mind. Anyway, I'm waiting for him to read the House Bill, which has been online since July, and point out where it says anything about hate crimes.
thegoodlocust….you are right dead on……..the man is a dapper dan from hell.
forget it….i tried it ,i felt like shit using food stamps….it is so much better to bust your ass and be a man……..
Can't you read? Cowboy said nothing about the Health Care bill. He is talking about the Defense bill that Pelosi just stuck a hate crimes bill in. It was supposed to be posted online before they voted, but it wasn't.
Noble and Nobel are both pronounced the same way where I is from too. Agreed Ronald Reagan was the more noble. A beacon of shiny light on a lazy hill of liberal deadbeats, welfare scum, and labor thugs. Our conservative Godhead. Never forget.
Not even worthy of a response, CL… Room temp IQ…
Affirmative Action- when people are rewarded for things they did not earn.
The Noble Peace Prize is now offically political when they gave an award to a liar, theif and GOD knows what else
now he will be able to apolgize to the whole world.
How can you give a award to a LIAR in that case ACORN should get an award besides since when does a muslem not even born in this country get an award for the UNITED STATES hm,hm,hm.
He took his wife on a nice, expensive date to NYC, too. He was so generous, he even brought along his entire entourage and gave the taxpayers the amazing opportunity to pay for it all.
Anna, put your glasses on and go to "Logic's" first post in this thread. This is what it says: "Pelosi and Reid are trying to sneak language into the Healthcare Bill, legislating that ANYONE making racist comments … will be immediately be branded as hate criminals, and be subject to hate crime legislation." The link he posted to the "Desert Conservative" is an analysis (using the term loosely) of the House Health Care Bill. The one who is reading-challenged appears to be you, Anna.
Reagan had it right, he was prophetic:

"Reagan Was Noble, Obama Is Nobel," that should have been your headline.
Noble is the courage of having and following a moral compass; Nobel is the emptyness and nihilsm of moral relativism.
Yes, Reagan and Bush had principals, conscience and understanding to guide them, Obama only uses his applause meter.
Obama still has not released his Columbia and Harvard papers on how he got into those schools. Where he put his birth place and WHO paid for it?
Obama still has not released his Columbia and Harvard papers on how he got into those schools. Where he put his birth place and WHO paid for it? Why won't Obama release all the transcripts? Now THERE is a story!
Why is that we give so much importance to the concept of PEACE, a meaningless and empty word unless it is filled with the freedom and justice. In that light, the prize is fitting for this empty man.
Yes, exactly. As a wise man once said about 2000 years ago, "there will always be wars and rumors of wars."
No.
For the record, I didnt realize you were still here, last night and today, babbling incoherently to yourself, so let me clarify one time, my words that you are ATTEMPTING to twist and use out of context. Yes, you are right, the House Bill has been online for months now. The Bill I was referring to, in my original post, was not the House Bill, but the Senate Bill. NOBODY has read the full Senate Bill online. That is the Bill that Reid, and Pelosi are attempting to attach riders, ad ons and amendments to.
I will not allow you to twist my words, to your liberal advantage. You cannot comment yeah, or nay on the Senate Bill, because it is not finished, but just the same,Pelosi and Reid ARE attempting to add verbage for hate, racism, and enviro crimes. Anyone who questions "those people" will be subject to it.
No.

ummm, ummm, ummm!
I hate you, am i am criminal now you bozo? You and your liberal ilk are a combination of weak minds and low IQs
the same basis pudlosi and hussein stand behind…..
And as far as "The Bill" is concerned, there is NO BILL. Just conceptual language. It is a sham.
"Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus will cut the federal deficit by $81 billion over the next 10 years."
Yes, that is what the Congressional Budget Office estimated. But, as the CBO noted, there's no actual Baucus bill, just some "conceptual language." Actual language, CBO noted, might result in "significant changes" in its estimates. No wonder Democratic congressional leaders killed requirements that the actual language be posted on the Internet for 72 hours before Congress votes.
THAT, is the reason they won't post it to the internet, there is nothing to post. It is a sham, to be written later………
Ah, I get it. You say the sun rises in the west and sets in the east. When confronted with irrefutable historical proof that the sun actually comes up in the east and sets in the west, you say, "I didn't mean THAT sun, I mean THIS sun."

Obama has been nominated for the Heisman trophy, since he's watched a college football game now….
I HATE hate speech legislation
There is no hate "speech" legislation. It would be unconstitutional. You do have your copy of the Constitution close at hand, don't you? Open it up and read the First Amendment. See the part about "Congress shall make no law …abridging the freedom of speech." That's it, right there. That's why there is no hate "speech" legislation. You need to find another straw man to fulminate about.
yeah theres no preferential treatment at work at all when it comes to hate crimes, i guess you fail to notice how it is selectively enforced. do you support affirmative action? is it selectively enforced or is it equal protection? why dont you roll over on your back, pee on yourself and let the govt. tell you what to do. YOu either get it or you dont
I have no idea what you are talking about.
Obama's Afghanistan agenda:
"I'll shoot some hoops………..While you shoot our troops"
Commander in Chief my American arse!
Bush's Iraq policy:
"Bring it on." They did.
My sentiments exactly !

Bush is gone. Obama is holding the ball. G W Bush's policy was to remove Saddam. "Mission Accomplished" was a true statement. Saddam was taken out of power. Which was the mission at that time. Some people just blow things out of proportion. Wars are fought by many missions Stevil.
By all means if you have to defend Obama with Bush's faults go right ahead.
Bush is gone

Yes the Human Race is getting quite taxing!…………..;>)
Bush hung 'em out to dry. So far, anyway, Obama hasn't.
Show me the proof of your statement.
Bush hung 'em out to dry.
He fought left and right for more funding. Obama goes to the IOC to get the Olympics to Chicago all the while our General McChrystal (forgive me if it is misspelled) is asking for more troops and then gets reprimanded for doing so. By the way in August 2008 more Americans were murdered in Chicago then were in Iraq.
Four examples: (1) multiple combat tours, (2) forced enlistment extensions, (3) drastic delay in up-armoring Humvees, (4) going into Iraq with far fewer troops than the command considered necessary. Congress approved every Bush funding request. McChrystal was not reprimanded for asking for more troops; he was criticized by the SecDef for the fact that his request was leaked to the media. I fail to see the relevance of a comparison of murders in Chicago with the combat deaths in Iraq.
Let's not forget Comrade Obama's chastisement and withholding aid promised to the Honduran Govt. when they ousted their would-be president/dictator when he tried to circumvent their constitution and run for re-election.
An excerpt from the article:
"Actually, we will have moved closer to that day when lawmakers use stealthy, behind-closed-doors maneuvers to chip away at fundamental constitutional rights. Ask Republicans how it happened, and they say simply, "Elections have consequences." They're right."
Virtually everything you say is a misstatement. I never said there was no hate crimes legislation. What I asked you to do, and you never did, was show me where in any proposed health care bill there was a provision dealing with hate crimes. All you did was insist it was there, claim the House bill was not online (it is), claim the Senate bill was not online (they are), and after finally realizing you didn't have a clue what you were talking about, assert that an expansion of the hate crimes law was part of some other legislation. You are a fool. In the interest of truth in advertising, you should remove "Logic" from your name. Because your statements are completely bereft of any logic.
Hey dumb ass. Yes you, Cowboy Illogic, how are you coming with your reading of these bills that you swore up and down were not available online?
The Hate Crimes legislation, that you said didn't exist:
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/politics/Dems-u...
I might have misspoke, about what Bill it was being snuck into, but I knew it was out there. It is an assault on the First Ammendment. Stick that in your pipe, and smoke it, or anywhere else you'd prefer.
i hear ya and Ben, but the people dont vote themselves the money congress does, politicians use the treasury to buy the peoples vote.
Liberty we vote the scoundrels in and we can vote them out.
