Talking points. Anyone standing in front of a group of people, representing an organization or focused message has ‘em, just in case the person speaking decides to veer off topic and start discussing the lunch that gave him heartburn.

Yeah, most of us see the need for ‘em.

But when our own government sends out a list of 9/11 talking points in order to curb and dilute the message of this terrible sacred day, it shows how far gone this administration really is when it comes to knowing the pulse and sentiments of its people.

According to a the New York Times report, the adminstration said its goal in issuing 9/11 talking points is to “present a positive, forward-looking narrative.”

“As we commemorate the citizens of over 90 countries who perished in the 9/11 attacks, we honor all victims of terrorism in every nation around the world. We honor and celebrate the resilience of individuals, families and communities on every continent, whether in New York or Nairobi, Bali or Belfast, Mumbai or Manila, or Lahore or London,” the guidelines state.

We all understand people of many different nationalities perished on 9/11. We also understand the global impact of 9/11 and how it changed the face of terrorism in the world. Suddenly, we were all acutely aware of the danger out there – the fact we, as Americans were being targeted and hated as a country for our beliefs in freedom, independence and liberty. So, to globalize the 10th anniversary into a memorial to victims of terrorism around the world seems to demean the significance and importance of this one, very real event in America’s history.

Granted, terrorism as a whole is evil and horrible and all the other disasters around the world are worthy of remembrance, but 9/11 is ours. It is a pain we hold in us and will forever.

As Americans, it is our day of mourning for something we saw play out on live television – something we watched go from bad to worse to catastrophic within a matter of minutes.

It is an American’s pain and is written in the fabric of all of us who breathed through it. Again, I say 9-11 is our pain. It is our day or remembrance. And while we appreciate the global communities’ outpouring of sympathies, our pain is sacred, patriotic and 100-percent American.

Further irritating the hell out of me, the administration’s talking point guidelines encompass two sets of instructions, according to an article in The Washington Times: one drawn up chiefly for domestic officials, the other geared primarily toward foreign audiences and disseminated to U.S. Embassy officials around the world. The guidelines urge officials to “minimize references to al Qaeda” and cited the killing of Usama bin Laden as evidence that the terror network behind the Sept. 11 attacks is “increasingly irrelevant.”

Is Al Qaeda’s plotting, training and carrying out of the most horrific terrorist attack in U.S. history ‘increasingly irrelevant’? Does the fact UBL is dead as a doornail mean we shouldn’t discuss his organization’s viability and threat? Furthermore, what gives President Obama and those surrounding him, giving him such absurd advice, the right to TELL PEOPLE not to talk about the perpetrator of this event?

How is this any different from some factions of Germans not admitting to the holocaust or the heinous acts of Adolph Hitler?

When you try to justify why some nut jobs literally refuse to believe in such despicable acts as The Holocaust, you find many different answers for the denial. One common thread is people have a hard time believing in mass murder or the capacity of such obscene cruelty – they have a blue sky view of life that’s always rosy and never cruel. This quote sums it up … taken from a BBC documentary: “Some even claim that Hitler was the best friend the Jews had in Germany, and that he actively worked to protect them (the Jews).”

Research also shows those doubting the Holocaust are racist. In short, their denial is a form of anti-Semitism.

So what is it when a country’s government actually tells its domestic and world representatives to downplay the role of the most evil and sinister group in current history? In my mind, it’s un-American. It’s denying our history and it’s also minimalizing the still-raw wounds of those who are healing from this tragedy.

9/11 affected a country first, even as it affected the world. And to dilute and/or downplay this is just rewriting history, isn’t it? It’s like saying the firemen who charged in to save lives before the twin towers collapsed were just collateral damage of the rescue effort – vs. actually being victims of the terrorism attack. It’s like saying nothing would’ve happened if the people on United Flight 93 would’ve just minded their own business and let the hijackers overtake the plane … that those brave passengers didn’t save lives of possibly hundreds of others by trying to overtake the villains.

Rewriting history or minimizing a group’s role in it leads to the dissolution of our identity as Americans – and we’ve seen it first hand with the relevance of the Constitution in this country right now.

If we allow our government to take one of our most sacred, precious memorial days and downplay the perpetrator’s actions, what message is that sending to other countries? Why aren’t we using this opportunity to not only honor those who were innocently killed, but also show it as a victory won after many painful years of sacrifice and burden by the American people and our brave soldiers who are STILL fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq?

We got the bad guy. GREAT! But the threat Usama Bin Laden represents is still out there, and glossing over that fact on THIS of all days shows cowardice in our administration– long suspected, but now fully demonstrated, out in the open. The truth is simply NOT the friend of the Obama administration. This tenth anniversary of 9/11 will be sad for many reasons, and toward the top of that list will be the proof, with every word uttered by an Obama spokesperson around the world, that this administration is simply not interested in truth or justice.

Yes, we understand that politics is a blood sport and that name-calling has become the common coin of the political realm. But this past week, following the passage of the bill to raise the debt ceiling, and before the nation’s credit rating was downgraded, the Left’s barkers unleashed a well-harmonized and profane ad hominem campaign that established a new low in American politics.

The Standard and Poor’s downgrade, which punctuated a week of very bad news, cannot entirely be laid at the feet of the Obama Administration nor the 112th Congress, because a succession of Administrations and Congresses nurtured the entitlement sacred cow that more, much more, than anything else put the nation on the road to Europe, and now, a credit rating to match. This is, however, the Administration and the Congress that could have stopped it. Frankly, we think the House-passed Ryan budget would have been an excellent start, but the common-sense proposal was slapped down by the White House as too radical. We also believe, and have stated in past essays, that the President’s own Simpson-Bowles Debt and Deficit Commission recommendations would have been a strong start down the road to fiscal sanity, but that too was slapped down by the President.

It is tempting to dismiss the terrorism tirade as simply childish, but that’s a temptation on which we’ll pass. “Terrorist” has become, perhaps, the most pejorative term in our common vocabulary. It is, after all, instantly and correctly associated with the murder of thousands of Americans, as well as innocent citizens of other civilized countries, and such grotesqueries as the beheading of captives, hostages and other non-combatants. To be labeled a “terrorist” is instantly to be consigned to (in the words of Nancy Pelosi) “the dark side”.

As is by now common knowledge, Rep. Michael Doyle of Pennsylvania was the first Democrat to use the terrorist analogy when referring, behind closed doors, to the Republican negotiators during the debt ceiling dust up. According to Politico, Vice President Biden who was present, then responded, “they have acted like terrorists.” And then, fast as one can say “chronic hoof and mouth disease,” word spread. Biden quickly denied he ever said such a thing and the White House immediately walked back (Washington lingo for reversing course) the Biden snafu with the admonishment that such talk was inappropriate.

So who are these Americans who found themselves in the cross hairs of the Left’s spin machine. Simply stated, they are those members of Congress who insisted on actually reducing federal spending, rather than settling for merely reducing the increased rate at which we spend. They want to see (horror of horrors) a balanced budget. They insisted that the debt-ceiling crisis wasn’t about slowing the rate at which we run up deficits nor about taxes, but about run-away government spending and the need to have equilibrium between what the government spends and what the government has in the till. And while their positions may be the subject of legitimate debate, the tantrums they produced within the liberal establishment were instructive. Politician after politician chimed in, talking heads who insinuate themselves into every controversy, and left-leaning columnists continued the drumbeat. Conservative elected officials made those on the left downright apoplectic, by rejecting the President’s vision for “transforming America”.

Chris Matthews was quick to call balanced budget purists “terrorists” and “hostage takers.” Not to be outdone Newsweek’s Tina Brown chimed in calling the Republicans who held out for balancing the budget, “suicide bombers,” and this exercise in hyperbole from New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, “They were like cannibals, eating their own party and leaders alive. They were like vampires, draining the country’s reputation, credit rating and compassion. They were like zombies, relentlessly and mindlessly coming back again and again to assault their unnerved victims, Boehner and President Obama. They were like the metallic beasts in “Alien” flashing mouths of teeth inside other mouths of teeth, bursting out of Boehner’s stomach every time he came to a bouquet of microphones.” New York Times Columnist Tom Friedman jumped in calling the no-compromise wing of the Republican Party the Hezbollah faction. And, again, from the New York Times, Joe Nocera contributes to the erudite coverage with, “Tea Party Republicans have waged jihad on the American people.”

Please!

For the record, we didn’t agree with the “no-compromise” position taken by many on the right. The fact remains, however, that their stand-fast pressure is what, in the final analysis, produced the compromise that took ill-advised tax-rate increases off the table and, for the first time in decades, put serious, pro-growth reform at the top of the nation’s agenda.

So just what is it that caused millions of voters to send these so-called Tea Baggers to Washington. Could it have had anything to do with the ever-further sinking approval ratings of those who represent us in Washington? Could it be that voters have finally realized that what Congress spends in Washington affects what they have to spend back home? Could it be that the country has watched a succession of governments turn our affairs of state into a sad state of affairs?

Let’s examine what really has terrorized the citizens of this country. For sure, they were tired of Bush and the excess spending during his Administration and for the financial meltdown that Wall Street caused, ironically, at the behest of incredibly short-sighted and foolish government home-ownership policy that began during he Carter years, continued through the Reagan years and grew on steroids during the Clinton and Bush (43) years.

The fact remains, however, that the deficit was, by 2007, only $161 billion and that includes spending for Bush’s unfunded prescription drug benefit, two wars and the Bush tax cuts all of which occurred early in his Administration. The economy had slipped into recession by 2008 and the deficit at the conclusion of the Bush presidency had climbed to $458 billion, and unquestionably, had he continued in office it would have continued to grow as he grappled with the financial crisis, which was already underway. But the deficit has nearly quadrupled under Obama, mostly because of spending for which we have very little to show. Some Americans probably think that’s rather terrifying.

The nation’s public debt has, today, reached 100% of GDP (higher than at any time since WWII), which many leading economists generally agree is well beyond the point at which growth begins to contract and a nation’s economic power begins to decline. This, more than anything else, has resulted in the first downgrade of the nation’s credit rating in history. People understand that we are incurring huge current debt in order to pay off huge past debt. That’s where we are, and that too is probably terrifying many people.

Within a year and half of President Obama’s inauguration the government’s public debt had spiked an additional $2.5260 trillion, which is more than the cumulative debt run up by all U.S. presidents from 1789 (Washington Administration) through 1989 (Reagan Administration). That probably terrified a few people too.

As we stated earlier in this essay, we didn’t agree with the all-or-nothing position taken by about half of the so-called tea-party faction within the Republican Party — but we understood it. It represents, we believe, the tip of a growing iceberg within the American body politic that is thoroughly exasperated by years of irresponsible government that has burdened at least two generations to come with debt that will sap the national income and, therefore, the growth and health of the country.

The so-called Tea Party, which the left is determined to demonize before the next election in an effort to stifle the national unease to which they give voice, is an authentic grass-roots movement that is a product of that very same national unease. As such, it is historic. It may be loud, often uncompromising and uncommonly determined, but it is as American as cherry pie.

As an authentic grass roots movement in which every Local Tea Party organization has different beliefs from the next we have a core value system aligning with all the others. Some are libertarian, some are religious, some are the flat-out stock broker business types.

They all have one thing in common: They are responsible people. Their word is their bond. As much as the groups differ and may argue on issues they all understand that there is a greater good and focus on the tasks at hand. They get over their personal differences and get to work on what they can contribute.

I heard comments from our own administration (Biden calling Tea Partiers Terrorists) and leaders calling ME, a veteran, a patriot and a true American, Satan. What is Nancy Pelosi thinking when making such comments? (Actually, if I wanted to have fun with this and play it out a little I’d say … it is a “Satan sandwich” with “Satan fries” on the side!) Biden called the Tea Party terrorists!

I think you really don’t understand the gravity of these statements Mr. Biden and Mrs. Pelosi. Luckily, I am aware you know not of service to MY Country and you are not aware of the words you have called me and the people of my ilk. I AM the Tea Party as are the millions of citizens I call my countrymen.

Even if we were friends and you called me a terrorist you would be expected to explain your actions and your beef with me or we would have to settle this like men. I respect your positions of office and would still call you sir and ma’am, but beyond that I spit on you! As a citizen, I spit on you. As a SEAL, I spit on you. As an American, I spit on the very thought of your Communist tactics.

I have seen the Real Terrorists and the Satan in their eyes . I know what they can do. A majority of the people you call terrorists (Tea Party) have served in YOUR military and have done YOUR bidding. Be careful where you tread, those words cut deep on a many levels.

One. You call me a terrorist trying to tie my belief system to the very people who want to kill and enslave you and I (radical Islam). Our sworn enemy! The Tea Party people are centrally rooted in the Constitution and go to it as a political Bible.

We go to the Constitution and the founding fathers for guidance, before deciding what is equally just for our fellow citizens. These documents and the people who created them were of Judeo/Christian beliefs. The Tea Party readily endorses the documents and people who gave us this great country. Are you and your administration calling the founders and the documents null and void being that we don’t negotiate with Terrorists?

Two. You separate yourselves from us. We are looking for transparency, decency, values and respect. We idolize the values known as America through our short history and aspire to live as good people. We don’t look for the handout, we are always the ones giving a hand up.

Again, in calling us something we are at war with, are you at war with us? Our beliefs? What in particular makes me a terrorist to you … Are you calling us out? Are you trying to mark us for extermination (look at public sentiment in the Weimar Republic before WWII and how the Nazi’s shifted a society to aide and abet the extermination of millions of Jews)? Are you our opposite as per your claim? Should we associate you to Georbles and his role in the final solution?

Do you attack us like this because we do not depend on you or because you can’t depend on us for votes?

The Tea Party is luckily a bunch of grown ups and we know your desperate ploys to “get our goat.” Good thing we are smart and know it’s a common tactic children pull on grown ups right before there is a tantrum.

When Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the face, there was a huge out cry from the left to tone down the “inflammatory rhetoric”. I also seem to remember Nancy Pelosi talking about the same “inflammatory rhetoric” as she tried to squeeze out some crocodile tears in an attempt to demonize us during the healthcare debate. Doesn’t seem her actions match her words, does it?

Have you seen “Nightmare on Elm Street”? In every one of the films Freddy Krueger is always defeated when the people he terrorizes realize his greatest weapon is fear. When they realize what he is doing, they become unafraid and stronger than he can ever be and he is powerless against them.

Another analogy is of course a much more familiar one, with a touch of sweetness added in for good measure. The famous line in ‘The Wizard of Oz’ … “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!” Once you see what is really going on the spell is broken and people, realizing the truth, become empowered and unstoppable.

A warning to those trying to deceive us: You are caught in your own web of lies and now are feeling the ire of the people who you have tried so hard to control starting to look and point at your ruse.

You now have our undivided attention because your fear tactics are getting sloppy and overbearing. You have gone too far and are showing your true colors. You will be the engine behind getting voted out of office and shamed in history as you so deserve.

So what do we do? We have to seize the opportunity. People have to start talking about politics … Our politics. If we are silent and don’t present our view of reality on economics and values, THEY WILL define it for us, don’t let that happen.

The economy is the focal point of the electoral subjects these days. We as Conservatives and people who read up and learn things have to start leading the conversations. Get them started and talk about things, learnedly and not in a bluster or condescendingly. Citizens are starting to see what is being done is not working and are looking for answers everywhere. They are even looking to us and we must be armed with educated and insightful answers!

Be the one that leads people and liberates them with knowledge. Right now is a time when people who are independents and undecided are free agents in the political market. Engage them. Learn from them and challenge them to prove you wrong.

I have never been a liberal but did go through a period where I felt a good portion of my political and national reality was a lie! I had to read and finally educate myself as to our true history. I could only imagine how a liberal or a progressive feels when they learn there is a real world out there. I think there should be an amnesty program for recovering liberals. The “I told you so” is something they fear. And of course, It is the hardest thing NOT to say to someone.

In all, we have an opportunity to further what we believe and advance the American values that made America great. As Reagan said it is not inherited, Liberty and freedom have to be taught and handed down BOLDLY and unapologetic.

We ARE the People!

From the St. Louis Tea Party:

ST. LOUIS TEA PARTY CONDEMNS “TERRORIST” REMARKS FROM VICE-PRESIDENT BIDEN, LAWMAKERS

It was revealed Monday by Politico that Vice-President Joe Biden, U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle, and other lawmakers referred to the tea party as “terrorists” during a heated discussion on the debt ceiling debate. From Politico:

Biden was agreeing with a line of argument made by Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) at a two-hour, closed-door Democratic Caucus meeting.

“We have negotiated with terrorists, ” an angry Doyle said, according to sources in the room. “This small group of terrorists have made it impossible to spend any money.”

Biden, driven by his Democratic allies’ misgivings about the debt-limit deal, responded: “They have acted like terrorists.”

The St. Louis Tea Party condemns the comparison of private citizens who desire fiscal restraint in Washington to murderous terrorists who have killed thousands of Americans world-wide.

“It’s reprehensible to me that our Vice-President and other elected leaders would make such a grotesque analogy when in just over a month we will mark the tenth anniversary of the worst attack on American soil,” remarks Dana Loesch, Co-Founder of the St. Louis Tea Party.

“It’s an insult to Americans and the Democratic process to refer to dissenting Americans in such a way,” says Bill Hennessy, St. Louis Tea Party Co-Founder. “Are our elected leaders so out of touch with what terrorism actually is that they are willing to defame, by way of analogy, a vast group of people? We have members who lost friends to terrorists in the 9/11 attacks. We do not have any members who have lost friends due to peaceful protest.”

“It is tone-deaf and offensive,” says Jennifer Ennenbach, media liaison of the St. Louis Tea Party. Other grassroots activists have expressed equal dismay at having their peaceful efforts to raise awareness of government excess compared to the likes of jihadis.

The St. Louis Tea Party asks that Vice-President Biden, Rep. Doyle, and other lawmakers who have defamed grassroots activists by calling them “terrorists,” “hostage takers,” and other pejoratives to apologize for their careless remarks. The St. Louis Tea Party also extends to Vice-President Biden an invitation to meet with them and other grassroots groups so he can see how peaceful dissent is a cornerstone of, not a threat to, our Republic.

If I had a nickel for every time someone on the far-left likened the Tea Party to terrorists, I might have enough to pull the United States out of its economic turmoil. The entire situation has grown to be far more than just something that foolish people say; it has climbed the political ladder to reach the highest echelons of American government:

From Politico (quoting Biden in reference to the Tea Party):

They have acted like terrorists.

It is one thing when Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania decided to embrace the crazy when he compared the debt ceiling dealings to a virtual hostage situation, with the Tea Party essentially running around the House strapped with C4, waving Ak-47’s at the Democratic Caucus. It is a different story entirely when the Vice President of the United States engages in this type of violent rhetoric. Apparently, Mr. Biden did not receive the memo that terrorism, and those who commit terrorist acts, has never, will never, and can never be a laughing matter.

Is it unreasonable then to ask for the resignation of the Vice President? Mr. Obama suggested that Anthony Weiner resign over allegations (which were later confirmed) that he used Twitter to provide one too many dirty photos to several different ladies over a three year period. Certainly this situation is much more foul, much more divisive, then the one involving a man who seemed incapable of keeping it in his pants. And while Biden will cater to his need to not be overly criticized for his remarks with a “sincere” apology delivered via secretary, it will be some time before those on the Right who associate themselves with the movement, including members of congress, forget what was said during that closed door meeting.

But such remarks can be taken much more personally.

Even now, in 2011, the events of September 11th still haunt many. When we are having a conversation about building mosques near Ground Zero, and fighting a war that was inspired by extremist violence, and when everyday we are in immediate danger of possible attack again on our own soil, for the right hand man of the leader of the free world to insinuate that a powerful, anti-establishment movement is driven by a desire to completely dismantle the U.S. economy through fiscal jihad, is unthinkable. Unthinkable, that is, until you realize that we live in the Age of Obama. These remarks, made by our Vice President, and democratic congressmen, and liberal media journalists, may do much in placating the needs of Media Matters and its constituents, but it does nothing to unite the American people.

So what can we then say about accusations of Tea Party terrorism by the Left? We can clearly assess that these statements are inspired by un-American principles. No reasonable person with a heart for this country like the Tea Party’s could allow such hateful rhetoric to slip from their mouths. And if roles had been reversed, and it was Speaker Boehner accusing the Left of wanting to commit a mass murder on American ideals, the Left would have been up in arms, and someone would have had the honor of making Keith Olbermann’s ‘Worst Person in the World’ hit list. To the Left, this really is a game, and as conservatives focus on fixing a broken economy, liberals have focused their attention on whether the Tea Party is transporting Yellowcake in their shoes to the Capitol Building.

Biden owes the Tea Party much more than an apology. In 2012, he, and President Obama, will pay them with their jobs.
