Clearly there is no shame in the culture of conceit in which NPR’s “Morning Edition” co-host Steve Inskeep lives, and like NPR, he is lying to the American people.

The supposed point of his March 24 op-ed in the Wall Street Journal was to refute the irrefutable – that NPR is an egregiously and unabashedly hard left, Soros-backed operation subsidized by taxpayers.

But Inskeep, like other NPR representatives, fraudulently claims “emails show that NPR refused the money” from the Muslim Brotherhood front group. At no point did NPR ever do so, and on the contrary the emails released by NPR did quite the opposite. They confirmed that NPR’s top executives had no objections whatsoever to taking money from a front group controlled and primarily financed by a jihadist organization explicitly committed to the subversion and destruction of this country. They were moving along with the perfectly standard procedures for accepting an institutional donation of that size.

Even long after we had established our Muslim Brotherhood front group status and explained that our purpose was to counter and replace the “Jewish” control over the American media, NPR’s top brass only became more and more eager, even putting “a dollop of urgency” on advancing the process, in Betsy Liley’s words.

These were not merely midlevel employees either. Ron Schiller was the President of the NPR Foundation, and Betsy Liley served directly below him as the Senior Director of Institutional Giving. Vivian Schiller was NPR’s CEO. Joyce Slocum was the General Counsel and is now currently the Interim CEO. All of them played a roll in advancing the donation process.

In our nearly two-month long relationship with NPR, there was not one objection to any of this. NPR and Inskeep are lying and pitifully hiding behind false accusations that somehow all of this is the result of doctored videos. We have released the full, unedited videos, and not even NPR’s circle of protectors in the mainstream press can obfuscate the truth.

We need no lectures from NPR and Steve Inskeep about values. I think America has seen quite enough of theirs, and NPR has some considerable explaining to do to those who fund this network.

It is high time NPR Ombudsman Alicia Shepard started answering some questions. Does NPR think it is okay to accept money from the Muslim Brotherhood? What is NPR’s policy on that, given that every executive necessary to sign off on such a donation proved to hold no reservations whatsoever about the jihadist front group with whom they were making a financial alliance?

Big Labor and politicians across the United States have transferred union costs to taxpayers. For example, SEIU Local 444 (The Sanitation Officers Association, see related snow slowdown stories) has six full-time union officials who are paid full-time city benefits and salary, yet work 0.00% of the time for New York City. These Sanitation Officers are working on everything but New York City business – including political activities and golf outings – all on the taxpayers’ dime.

SEIU sanitation union transfers its costs to NY City taxpayers and provides an excellent place to cut the budget.

This means taxpayers are essentially paying for union bosses’ no-show jobs.

In 2009, SEIU Local 444 local President Joseph Mannion was paid $108,340 plus benefits, including seniority credits, for working fulltime for the union. According to the union’s 2009 IRS report, Mannion was paid an additional $83,046 by the union. That’s over $190,000 plus benefits.

This type of union cost transfer to taxpayers is commonplace.

If NJ Governor Christie, other governors, and Congress are looking for a place to cut the budget, taxpayer-funded no-show jobs would be a good place to start. There is zero reason overly-burdened taxpayers should be forced to subsidize Big Labor.

This SEIU waste of taxpayer money is just the tip of the iceberg, a mere reflection of what occurs throughout state and federal government agencies. Even worse, these transfers may represent violations regarding the use of federal, state, and municipal payroll funds.

Public employee forced-union-monopoly-bargaining not only forces workers under union boss control; it also forces taxpayers to patronize union bosses like Mannion. It is time to begin looking at the source these schemes, government mandated monopoly bargaining and forced unionism.

Last night, defying the will of a bipartisan majority of the House and Senate, Democrats voted to allow the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) to receive federal taxpayer dollars.

In September, large Congressional majorities in both houses voted to sever all ties between the federal government and ACORN. The Senate vote was 85-11; the House vote was 345-75. You’d think that those votes, which USA Today described as prohibiting “any federal funding for the community organizing group,” would have settled the matter. You’d be wrong.

Months later, with the country’s focus on jobs, healthcare, and the Global War on Terror, Democrats are moving to restore funding to ACORN. Last night, Rep. Tom Latham (R-IA) offered an amendment during deliberations on the Democrats’ massive year-end appropriations bill to clarify the prohibition on federal funds going to ACORN or its subsidiaries. That amendment was shot down on a 5-9 party line vote as Republicans sided with taxpayers while Democrats stood with ACORN.

Rep. Latham’s amendment is necessary to prevent taxpayer money from going to ACORN because the Obama Administration’s Department of Justice has taken advantage of a legal loophole to allow ACORN to continue to receive federal funds – despite the passage of the House GOP’s Defund ACORN Act in the fall.

The American people and the Congress have spoken loud and clear: ACORN should be denied any taxpayer funds. Period.

ACORN has already received far too much money from the American people. An analysis of federal data by the Office of the Republican Leader staff determined that ACORN has received more than $53 million in direct funding from the federal government since 1994, and has likely received substantially more indirectly through states and localities that receive federal block grants.

Enough is enough. The American people are tired of seeing their tax dollars wasted on an organization accused of serious crimes – and that’s why House Republicans are stepping up efforts to defund ACORN once and for all.

Until last Thursday, many Americans assumed ACORN’s massive tax windfall was just a way to funnel taxpayer money to a radical organization. That was before the shocking video revelation that ACORN Housing staff — funded by millions of dollars of the public’s money — is willing to offer their “counseling services” to would-be operators of child prostitute rings.

Clearly, it’s time to take a closer look at how taxpayer money drives the ACORN empire.

The Public Trough

Until recently, few knew much about ACORN or the reach of its 300-plus organizations with a hundred-million-dollar budget. The main financial sustenance for the behemoth comes from unions (which outsource dirty work, strategy, and anti-corporate attacks to the group), powerful and politically minded non-profit foundations, political campaigns (including $800,000 from then-Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008) and taxpayer money.

That public trough has been open to those who seem to feel they are more equal than others. The Washington Examiner investigated and found out that “at least $53 million in federal funds have gone to ACORN activists since 1994.” (See the spreadsheet here.)

A large chunk of that money flows from the federal government to the ACORN Housing Corporation (AHC). On the group’s IRS filings for the fiscal year ending in June 2007, AHC reported taking in more than $2.8 million in that year alone — accounting for approximately 30 percent of that year’s budget. A 2008 report from the Consumers Rights League found that from 2004 through 2006, government funds accounted for 40 percent of the group’s $18.3 million in revenue.

Funding ACORN’s Political Movement

In 2007, more than $1.5 million went out the door from AHC to ACORN. Over the 2004 through 2006 period, the housing group sent more than $4.6 million in “grants” and “fees” to other ACORN-run organizations — and it may well have violated the law in doing so.

AHC is legally allowed to accept taxpayer funds because it is technically a charity, whereas ACORN is not allowed to accept such money because it is engaged in overtly political activity. But ACORN officials run both organizations and seem to use the housing operations as a publicly funded piggy bank.

All this money going from taxpayers to AHC to other, more political ACORN entities is troubling. The trail goes cold, though, and it becomes difficult to track how the group’s officials ultimately use that money. That’s why recent revelations of $1 million embezzlement by the brother of ACORN’s founder surprised almost no one.

At least twice, Democratic administrations have caught ACORN misusing taxpayer money allocated for community work. Instead, the group used funds to build its own “community organizing” efforts. The most recent example involved AHC using government money to support its efforts while trying to sign up people trying to learn how to buy a house.

There’s evidence the exact same problem continues to play out. An internal email from 2004 showed that a federal grant “will provide the opportunity for ACORN and AHC to work together…” Moreover, affidavits show that AHC employees believe there’s cause to investigate further crimes and violations. This led the Consumers Rights League to call for a Congressional investigation and conclude, “Congressional leaders should be wary of donating hard-earned tax dollars to a group with this sordid record.”

Where The Money Goes, Nobody (Really) Knows

What is clear is where the money does not go: The Examiner has reported that while the group is happy to take in millions and millions of taxpayer dollars, ACORN faces more than a million dollars in liens for unpaid taxes.
