New Obama Campaign Email and Sen. Harry Reid Seek to Use Insider Trading Issue as Political Bludgeon Against Republicans

by Wynton Hall

Democrats controlled all three branches of government for the first two years of President Barack Obama’s presidency and did nothing to advance congressional insider trading reform. Indeed, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA) have been cited as among Congress’s worst abusers of using nonpublic information to influence their private stock trades. And until his State of the Union speech last week, President Obama had said nothing publicly about the issue–ever.

But now, in the wake of Breitbart editor Peter Schweizer’s blockbuster bestselling insider trading expose, Throw Them All Out, and the 60 Minutes report the book sparked, Mr. Obama and his campaign team have begun co-opting the insider trading issue, first in Mr. Obama’s State of the Union speech and now in a new campaign email blasting House Republicans for inaction on the issue and praising the Democratic leadership of Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) in the Senate.

The Obama-Biden email, with a subject line titled “This isn’t already illegal? Email from O’camp,” reads:

Right now, members of Congress can make personal investment decisions based on confidential information they get in the course of regulating industries and doing their work.

It’s kind of unbelievable that this isn’t already illegal. President Obama wants to make it illegal once and for all — no one should profit from inside information about the very businesses they’re supposed to be regulating.

Today, the Democratic leadership in the Senate voted to move forward on a bill to extend to Congress the same strict rules that apply to anyone else whose job gives them access to sensitive information about businesses. This legislation is expected to pass the Senate with bipartisan support later this week.

But Republicans in the House have yet to move on it.

Senator Reid, Let’s Compare Radicals Shall We?

by Andrew Marcus

Senator Reid is calling Tea Partiers “radicals.”

The feminine pitch of Senator Reid’s voice not withstanding, in the context of the heavily documented death threats and vandalism recently committed by Progressive Democrat radicals in Wisconsin, calling Tea Partiers radical betrays his apparently giant set of testicles.

Now that Senator Reid has foolishly raised this issue, let’s compare radicals, shall we?

On one hand, Progressive radicals specialize in rioting, destroying property, and frequently engaging in violent behavior.

It’s Showtime: High Stakes for Federal Spending Fight

by Robert Bluey

Just how unusual is the current spending debate on Capitol Hill? Based on the size and scope of the GOP’s proposed cuts, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said you’d have to go back to World War II to find such reductions in federal spending.

The federal government is spending more on a per-household basis than ever before.

Spending debates in Washington usually end the same way — with more federal spending. The federal government today spends more on a per-household basis than ever before — a staggering $31,088.

That number is expected only to increase in the years to come. It’s one reason Republicans prevailed in November and why they’ve made spending cuts one of their first acts of the 112th Congress.

As the focus shifts from the size of the cuts to a defense of them, expect to hear plenty of fear-mongering from Democrats. It started last week when Senate Democrats began floating the possibility of a government shutdown.

Judging from recent comments by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Democrats are hoping to reprise the budget battle of 1995. In that case, a Republican-led Congress squared off against a Democrat president — and the GOP lost.

Pelosi Knows the Tea Party Has Its ‘Most Effective Weapon’ Aimed At Her

by Elliot M. Kaplan

Glen Templeton \”God Bless Good Old Boys\”

Harvard Professor V.O. Key, Jr stated in his seminal work, “The Responsible Electorate”: “The most effective weapon of popular control in a democratic system is the capacity to throw a party from power.”    That weapon is aimed at San Francisco liberal Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts who hijacked the peoples’ House.

There has been much said about the Tea Party blaming its views on right wing talk show hosts and political pundits.  Many believe the Tea Party was formed by a Democratic Party and Administrations false conclusion that their success in the 2008 election was a vindication of their beliefs, the swing of the electorate response to the campaign positions taken, an indication of the intuitive mood of the people and, finally, as the respect it represents by an intelligent electorate.

Key concluded:  “This narcissistic approach assumes it’s most repulsive form among election winners who have championed intolerance, who have stirred the passions and hatreds of people, or who have advocated causes known by decent men to be outrageous or dangerous in their long run circumstances.”  The great Presidential scholar Richard Neustadt called it the pivotal nature of character to Presidential performance and James Barber of Duke University enhanced it with his classic book “Presidential Character”.  They both concluded that it was character more than policy that determines Presidential performance.

When Will Sen. Reid Condemn the Actions of His Supporters?

by Larry O'Connor

Remember our Rogues’ Gallery of Reid supporters from last week?  Let’s call them “The Searchlight Four”.  They were the highest profile members of the “Rent-a-Thug” protest in support of Sen. Harry Reid on Saturday, March 27th.  Their preferred method of showing support for the Majority Leader of the United States Senate?  Throwing eggs at a bus full of private citizens assembling in the Senator’s hometown to exercise their 1st Amendment rights.

Searchlight4-300x84

Let’s re-aquaint ourselves with the Searchlight Four:

This is “The Eggman”

Jesse

Jesse Walker threw an egg at the Tea Party bus.  He is a member of IBEW Local 357 and he was also instructing Andrew Breitbart on the finer, nuanced points of racial politics in America today:

“The demographics of this country is changing, your way of thinking is dead.”

Did the Democratic Party Field Director Lie to Police?

by Larry O'Connor

Yesterday we asked our readers for information about this guy:

Lie to police

Quincy Pundit thinks they found him.  According to them, this guy is a dead-ringer for Brian Dimarzio.

Considering Dimarzio is the Field Director for the Nevada Democratic Party and prior to that job, he worked for the AFL-CIO, it seems like a pretty good match.  What are the odds that a guy who looks exactly like our pal in the video also worked for the AFL-CIO and is now the Field Director for the Nevada Democratic Party?

I guess stranger things have happened.

Andrew Breitbart gave him a call.

It’s Time For Out-a-Thug: Help Us Identify These Men

by Publius

Who is this man?

Another_Eggman

To remind our readers, this fine gentleman thrust his finger in a journalists face and shouted “Get him out of here, or I’m going to jail today!” We’re pretty sure he didn’t mean he was going to jaywalk. Let’s find out who he is and bring his intimidation tactics to light.

And, while we’re at it, please help identify this man:

another_eggman_again

Proudly wearing his Harry Reid t-shirt, this man lied to the police in Searchlight when he falsely accused Andrew Breitbart of throwing an egg at the Tea Party Activists’ bus. Does he work for the Reid campaign? Does he work for IBEW Local 357? Does he work for another union in the Las Vegas area?

Finally, we need your help with a missing persons case… Has anyone seen or heard from the media? (more…)

Meet Another One of Harry Reid’s ‘Rent-a-Thugs’: Edward ‘Eddie’ Gering

by Larry O'Connor

When thousands of peaceful, Tea Party protestors came to Harry Reid’s hometown of Searchlight, Nev. last Saturday, you would have thought that the favorite son of this hardscrabble, mining town would garner tons of local support.  Not so.  Members of IBEW Local 357 were called to action to agitate the crowd and, as we’ve previously shown, to hurl eggs at the busses carrying them.

Around 0:18 into the video released last night showing the exploding shell and yolk that came inches from Andrew Breitbart’s face, a loud protestor taunts Breitbart, smiling and mocking his condemnation of the egg-throwing.  “Glad you approve!” he sneers, “Thanks, man!”.

This guy really gets around.  Here he is at a Las Vegas healthcare townhall meeting back in August.

The Blueprint Penned From the Pen: Manufacture a Crisis, Manufacture Rage

by Larry O'Connor

In today’s Big Government post by Joel Pollak readers were treated to an amazing glimpse into the political strategy that has been put into place over the past year by the Obama Administration to force the radical overhaul of the American health care system all under the guise of “Health Care Reform”

HC2

If anyone doubts that the strategy blue print written by convicted felon Robert Creamer (while he was serving his time in Federal Prison) was really put into action by the administration, one only needs to look at the endorsements page and notice a rave from none other than David Axelrod:

Bob Creamer has devoted his life to progressive causes.  Here he provides a fascinating narrative of how progressives have won in the past and provides a blueprint for future victories.

When David Axelrod reads and endorses Creamer’s book and describes it as a “blueprint for future victories” then it might be more than just a coincidence that what Creamer suggested/predicted is exactly what has come to pass.

As odd as it seems that President Obama’s top political advisor would see fit to publicly endorse a book by a newly released felon, it is still instructive to actually look at Mr. Creamer’s “blueprint for future victories” and see how Mr. Axelrod and the Democratic leadership has used that blueprint for President Obama’s Health Care scheme.

Big, Green, Global Government

by Christopher C. Horner

One learns a new language upon first wading into the world of ,what’s favorably called by the Al Gores and Jacques Chiracs of the world, “global governance”. That term, used in all seriousness and intended as a compliment, means the web of international agreements (typically in the name of the environment), committing the prosperous world to agree to  do things it would never enact via its own democratic processes. New words such as “subsidiarity” and “additionality” are forged and tossed around like Mardi Gras beads at earnest negotiating sessions and in deathless texts. It’s Esperanto for the bossy jet-setters racked with guilt over your lifestyle.

united-nations

Another of my favorites is “capacity building”, which means wealth transfers to prepare a poor society to receive a larger wealth transfer in the future. You see, certain among those societies our green superiors are trying to hector into behaving in a certain way – which is all of them – are not yet able to deal with the financial windfall due them from the Kyoto Protocols of the world. These international agreements frankly are more about redistribution than anything else. For example, Kyoto is in no way about actually reducing “greenhouse gas emissions”, but instead it creates a Ponzi-like scheme of paying other countries to sell you pieces of paper saying that you reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

And a good thing, too, because those few countries who are covered by Kyoto have all – like the rest of the world – increased their actual emissions since agreeing to this “historic emissions reduction pact.” Still, as we approach the December deadline for agreeing to a successor, Kyoto will be nonetheless be hailed for its accomplishment. Maybe by this they mean the recent cooling.

Sham Angelides Commission Will Protect ACORN

by Phil Kerpen

Congress’s official investigation into the financial crisis, the so-called Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission, will convene its first meeting today.  Unfortunately, Nancy Pelosi’s handpicked chairman of the commission Phil Angelides, has deep ties to radical left-wing politics, including the Van Jones-connected Apollo Alliance, which he chairs, and ACORN, which is an Apollo member and endorsed and actively supported his gubernatorial campaign.  His selection proves the commission will be a politicized attempt to advance a left-wing agenda through a revisionist history of the financial crisis.  It also assures that ACORN and other community organizers who forced banks to make reckless loans in the name of affordable housing will be let off the hook.

angelides

Angelides’s San Francisco-based Apollo Alliance describes itself as a “coalition of labor, business, environmental, and community leaders working to catalyze a clean energy revolution.”  Based on the radical past of some of its key figures, the use of the word revolution is appropriate.  Apollo was conceived of, and presently serves, as a clearing house to align the otherwise disparate interests of environmental groups, labor unions, social justice organizations, and rent-seeking corporations.

Disgraced former White House green jobs czar Van Jones was an Apollo board member, involved with the group from its founding, and was its model for a new type of leader.  Apollo board member John Podesta, who was chairman of Obama’s transition team, already brought Van Jones back to the Center for American Progress, Podesta’s influential think tank where Jones had previously been a senior fellow.  These are Angelides’s friends and ideological peers.
