Frances Fox Piven: Glenn Beck Seeks ‘Foreign, Dark-Skinned, Intellectual’ Scapegoats

by Kyle Olson

Throughout much of 2009, Glenn Beck extensively covered the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” that was first brought into the public domain in a May 1966 article in The Nation magazine.  In the article, Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, two Columbia professors, developed a strategy by which the welfare system could be overwhelmed with demand, broken, and replaced with a “guaranteed annual income.”

Beck has successfully made the argument that the Cloward-Piven Strategy was a blueprint for success at overwhelming that system.  Don’t think it worked?  Ask the leaders of New York City.  The strategy worked so well, the mass rush for welfare benefits bankrupted the city in the 1970s.

So as Beck has brought new light to this strategy, no one has asked Frances Fox Piven’s opinion.  Until now.

Piven dismisses Beck’s opinion as “silly.”  But she also went a step farther.

‘Tough’ Decisions on Spending Include $2.5M on Super Bowl Ad

by Greg Knapp

mean-joe

Where to cut the spending? Obama has told us we have to make some tough choices. Yup, it wasn’t easy, but they decided to keep in the $2.5 million for a Census ad during the Super Bowl. That’s just a part of the $132 million we will spend to tell people to fill out and mail in their census forms.

We’d get a better bang for our buck by gambling it in Vegas. No matter what Obama says about the town, at least there we would have a chance to win big.

I understand that our constitution requires a census every ten years, but it does not require we waste our money advertising for it.  You don’t turn it in – you’re not counted. Next!

Here are some of the proposed cuts listed on the White House blog as  ”tough choices” for 2011:

Hypocrisy Matters For America

Media Matters is taking the Tea Party Convention to task regarding its limited credentialing for press access.

Tea Party convention hosts Palin and bans the press. Except Palin employer Fox News

Media message from the right wing: If you don’t give the Tea Party “fair coverage,” then you will be banned from covering its convention.

And who says the conservative movement doesn’t hold journalism in contempt?

So….when a quasi political convention held by a private group selectively excludes dissenting media, that’s contempt. But when the White House selectively excludes dissenting media, singling them out for vilification, that’s just fine with Media Matters.

For the record, I would like to see lamestream media outlets there. More often than not, when they cover the Tea Parties, they embarrass themselves in a way that simultaneously exposes their bias, while energizing and growing the base.

Fox News: ACORN, Jennings Among Top Stories MSM Missed in ‘09

by Publius

From Fox News’ Nine Big Stories the Mainstream Media Missed in 2009:

ACORN TapesACORN Tapes

Filmmakers James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, posing as a pimp and a prostitute, went undercover to the offices of the community organizing group ACORN in the summer. They secretly videotaped employees instructing them in how to falsify tax forms and seek illegal benefits for 13 “very young” girls from El Salvador whom the pair said they wanted to import to work as child prostitutes. New videos emerged daily, but the mainstream media ignored the growing scandal for days, even as federal agencies began severing their ties with the group and members of Congress cried for an investigation. Napolitano: Holder’s Justice Department Should Prosecute SEIU Thugs for Gladney Beating

by Publius

Right before the Thanksgiving news-cycle black hole, charges came out against the SEIU thugs for the Kenneth Gladney beating.  Five days later, responsible news outlets everywhere (i.e.: Fox News) could finally cover the story.

BigGovernment.com Editor-in-Chief Mike Flynn and Judge Andrew Napolitano spoke with Glenn Beck about the saga on yesterday’s show.  Check out the video below and watch out for the Judge’s explanation of why the beating meets every criteria for a hate crime.  Key passage begins about 3:20 seconds in.  Transcript below:

Napolitano: A) It was organized.  You and I watched the tape of them [SEIU thugs] kicking him [Kenneth Gladney]. It wasn’t just a random act of violence.  It was organized.  B) It was to suppress his free speech.  C) As they were kicking him, they were expressing hatred for his race.  All three of these categories are what the Federal Government is supposed to prosecute people for doing.  Instead, what they’ve charged these thugs with is the moral equivalent of jaywalking. ACORN–The LA Story, Part II: ‘We knew we were gonna put in Obama.’

by Gary Hewson

I was driving to my local OSH hardware store in West L.A. yesterday to buy some tools for the house where I spotted an ACORN rally across the street at some FOX studio.  After buying some supplies, I went into my car to get the brand new hand-held HD video camera I had purchased just the night before for an upcoming vacation.  With camera in hand, I walked towards the protesters to gather some pictures and video footage of the rally.  I also called my friend Andrew Breitbart and suggested he come down. I had a feeling he’d be interested.

acorn-protest-lady-1

But before he could make it to the rally, an ACORN organizer had crossed the street and approached me with an ACORN flyer in her hand.  As she started to talk, I clicked the record button of the new camera I had bought on a whim, not knowing what it would capture or how it even worked, for that matter. I heard the same things you will now hear on this recording.  Three minutes later I walked away in shock.  I started to tremble from what she admitted to me with utter nonchalance.  I walked inside a nearby store and found a quiet place to play the tape for myself and realized that I had wintessed something maybe no one was ever supposed to hear:

ACORN: The LA Story, Part I

by Andrew Breitbart

Today I received a phone call from my friend, Gary H., who said that ACORN was staging a protest outside the Fox News studios in West Los Angeles. I called someone at the Fox News bureau to find out that there were no protesters there, but quickly realized ACORN had gotten that wrong too. They were protesting in front of FOX Television Center, the home of local affiliate KTTV.

Since I woke up to the news that ACORN had sued the U.S. government to get its federal funding back, it struck me as obvious that ACORN is in the process of trying to get its mojo back absent any real investigations by the Holder Justice Department, the Democratic-controlled Congress, and the Jerry Brown sham investigation in California – not to mention the  so-called “internal investigation” whose chief investigator was picked by number one ACORN defender, John Podesta, and SEIU head Andy Stern, whose union is deeply aligned with the troubled “community organizing” group.

acorn_breitbart_01

Despite all the evidence we have published that exposes ACORN as both corrupt and criminal, no other mainstream media organization has shown any signs of investigating ACORN despite countless angles and document trails.  So I knew I had to go down to the protest on Bundy Drive to ask ACORN protesters a few questions.

With very little time I got in the car with Big Government Associate Editor Alex Marlow to meet Gary H. down at the protest. When we arrived, the protesters were fifty or so strong, monitored by a few police units standing to the side. Given that the police made me feel safe, I walked straight toward the chanting protesters while accepting an ACORN full-color single page handout entitled, “ACORN MEMBERS — MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN  THEIR COMMUNITIES,” which sung the praises of the organization. Boots on the Ground Report: Obama Focused on the Wrong Election

by Brigadier General (R) Anthony J. Tata

In my last column titled “The Cost of Delay,” I highlighted that one of the primary second order effects of the Obama administration’s stalling on the Afghanistan decision was that the Afghan runoff election would necessarily be a repeat of the general election, complete with allegations of fraud and intimidation.

Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and Afghan President Hamid Karzai Meet With then-U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah and Afghan President Hamid Karzai Meet With then-U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld

The issues surrounding the general election in Afghanistan were basically that it was poorly administered and security concerns were rampant as the Taliban tried to disrupt and influence the voting. Afghanistan with its 100,000 NATO forces does not have sufficient combat power to secure all of the provinces. It’s that simple. We had twice that amount to secure elections in Iraq, a country 1/3 smaller than Afghanistan, with 8,000,000 fewer citizens, and with far more infrastructure. For the Afghan runoff, there would have been no measurable difference in troop levels or international assistance from the first election, and so Abdullah Abdullah, the only viable contender to Karzai, pulled out believing the fix was in. Allegations of corruption and intimidation are just that, allegations, but should have been addressed. They weren’t.

How the MSM Might Survive: Come Out of the Ideological Closet

by John Nolte

Whenever reading Politico, everything should be washed through this filter. You must always keep in the front of your mind that this supposed “news” organization took the time to dig up and publicize dirt on a private citizen whose only sin was asking a perfectly reasonable question of a public figure. Politico’s warning to the everyday American was clear: get in the way of our guy and we will summon all our resources to publicly humiliate you. This all goes to prove that Politico is nothing more than a digital version of the Dinosaur Media — and just as clueless and dishonest as their unholy brethren, especially when it comes to explaining why their counterparts are drowning in the tar pits of obsolescence.

doc48b4d954d1e086897771116

To hear Politico tell it, CNN’s stuck in humiliating fourth place behind FOX, MSNBC and their own Headline News because they’ve made the mistake of not appealing to the great unwashed who prefer partisan bickering and echo chambers:

With the proliferation of media across platforms these days, there’s less shared knowledge among people, who are increasingly heading to niche outlets for information. At the same time, there’s a large appetite for the new media world where the MSM gatekeepers no longer hold as much clout, and “he said, she said” journalism gives way to strong point of view. …

There’s no doubt that the over-the-top, and politically partisan, hosts are having more success attracting viewers on nights when there’s no major news event. (more…)

Obama Presidency: Bullying from the Pulpit

by Chris Berg

There used to be a certain level of decorum incumbent upon the office of the President of the United States.  After all, the office is more than the man that occupies it.  It’s also more than his politics or platform.  In many ways the Presidency is the embodiment of America.  It’s the face we put forward to the world.  With the election of President Obama the presidency has also awakened dreams in many children who never believed the White House was attainable.

saintobama

The mandates of the office dictate how those entrusted with its power should act.  The Obama White House has failed to maintain the high standards of this office.  Rather than operating in a dignified manner the staff has desecrated the office by resorting to old-school Chicago-style politics.  That is to say they’ve used the Presidency to reward their friends and single out and attack their enemies.

Axelrod and Emanuel Help Shape ACORN Coverage?

by Larry O'Connor
While I know it doesn’t rise to the journalistic importance of the “Balloon Boy” story, I would have thought yesterday’s press conference at the National Press Club featuring Hannah Giles, James O’Keefe, Andrew Breitbart and the latest video featuring the Philadelphia office of ACORN would have gathered a little more main-stream media attention.

This past Sunday, David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel made unprecedented statements on the Sunday morning shows.  They both echoed the same two talking points which were essentially:
1.  Fox News is not really a legitimate news source because it has a ‘point of view’ and
2.  We encourage all legitimate news networks to stop treating them as if they are legitimate.
The ACORN press conference and new video have been news for over 24 hours, and as of now, the networks’ coverage is as follows:
Fox News – ran a story within an hour of the press conference and duplicated coverage on their web page
NBC – nothing
MSNBC – nothing
CNN – nothing
AP ran a story late yesterday.
CBS – has only re-run the AP story
ABC – has only re-run the AP story

I’m just wondering…  do you think the networks got the White House’s message?

PHILLY VIDEO IS MORE PROOF: Liberal Smear Merchants ‘Media Matters for America’ Will Slime Anyone Who Takes on ACORN

by Matthew Vadum

Throughout the ACORN undercover sting video saga, no one has been more willing to assassinate the character of ACORN’s opponents than the hired guns at the left-wing group Media Matters for America.

Headed by former journalist and confessed serial liar David Brock, the extremely well-funded Washington, D.C.-based defamation factory has gone out of its way to attack conservative activists James O’Keefe and Hannah Giles, online news entrepreneur Andrew Breitbart, and this website – the truth be damned.

Agitplakat

It’s worth noting that even the New York Times describes Media Matters as a “highly partisan research organization.”

Media Matters is only interested in generating a body count and won’t let facts get in the way.

Nothing better illustrates the depths to which Media Matters is willing to sink in order to protect its allies and smear its opponents than its outrageously irresponsible commentary on the ACORN undercover video saga.

Remember that ACORN provides the “shock troops” of the left. ACORN gets the vote out. ACORN wins elections. Those Democratic politicians who don’t love ACORN fear it – and for good reason. To the establishment left, ACORN must be defended at all costs.

No More Nukes: The Fantastical Dream of Barack Obama, Aged 48 and 1/6

by Daniel Kalder

When President Obama first announced his desire to rid the world of nuclear weapons, I laughed out loud. After all, what’s not to chuckle at?

UN Climate Talks

Would he next offer future generations the gift of flight, like Britain’s Natural Law Party, or promise to abolish death like would-be Russian presidential candidate Grigory Grabovoi, shortly before he was jailed for accepting money to reincarnate a non-existent victim of the Beslan Tragedy?

Of course not, I thought. It’s just the usual political waffle, nothing to waste time thinking about. The president was striking a pose, attempting to sound statesmanlike, that sort of thing. All politicians indulge in this type of empty, grandstanding rhetoric and Obama’s personal weakness for it is well established. Meanwhile he had presented Russia with an opportunity to get rid of a lot of old weapons they didn’t really want any more, without losing face. Perhaps that was the plan: a conciliatory gesture to the Bear in the hope that it would help in other areas. Good luck with that, by the way.

Outfoxing New York Times

by Publius

From the editorial pages of Investors Business Daily:

That’s why the Times got scooped by outlets such as Fox News, for which it has nothing but contempt, on revelations that led to the fall of community organizing behemoth Acorn.

The wound was self-inflicted, rooted in little more than the partisanship of protecting a favored president. It left the field clear for a couple of journalism students to show that Acorn staffers openly encouraged pimping, child prostitution, human trafficking, mortgage fraud and tax evasion.

It’s right there on tapes posted to Andrew Breitbart’s BigGovernment.com. Unlike the disdainful Times, Fox ran with it, toppling a behemoth of political power.

James O’Keefe Chats With Fox News’ Chris Wallace

by Publius

On Fox News Sunday, anchor Chris Wallace named James O’Keefe the Power Player of the Week. For those keeping score at home; the Census has cut ties with ACORN, the House and Senate have voted overwhelmingly to cut off federal funds to ACORN, the IRS has severed its ties and placed tax liens on the organization, the Treasurary Department’s Inspector General has opened a review, and numerous state and local government have opened investigations of the troubled community organizer. Better yet, a certain leftist organization continues to spin itself far beyond any credibility it might ever have possessed.  Yes, that adds up to a Power Player in our book.

NY Times Editor: Paper Was Too Slow to Cover ACORN Scandal

by Publius

From New York Times Public Editor Clary Hoyt:

ON Sept. 12, an Associated Press article inside The Times reported that the Census Bureau had severed its ties to Acorn, the community organizing group. Robert Groves, the census director, was quoted as saying that Acorn, one of thousands of unpaid organizations promoting the 2010 census, had become “a distraction.”

Clark Hoyt

What the article didn’t say — but what followers of Fox News and conservative commentators already knew — was that a video sting had caught Acorn workers counseling a bogus prostitute and pimp on how to set up a brothel staffed by under-age girls, avoid detection and cheat on taxes. The young woman in streetwalker’s clothes and her companion were actually undercover conservative activists with a hidden camera.

It was an intriguing story: employees of a controversial outfit, long criticized by Republicans as corrupt, appearing to engage in outrageous, if not illegal, behavior. An Acorn worker in Baltimore was shown telling the “prostitute” that she could describe herself to tax authorities as an “independent artist” and claim 15-year-old prostitutes, supposedly illegal immigrants, as dependents. Breitbart and Giles Talk ACORN Lawsuit on Fox News

by Publius

In the first two of what will inevitably be a multitude of ACORN Baltimore lawsuit related media hits, Andrew Breitbart spoke with Bill O’Reilly on Fox News Channel last night while Hannah Giles (and her attorney Kelly Shackelford) spoke with Sean Hannity:

The clips give a basic overview of a lot of arguments that we’ll be seeing as the case unfolds. Breitbart chastises ACORN for infringing on free speech, Giles finds ACORN’s arbitrary $5 million dollar figure “funny,” and both make the case that it is at least a bit ironic that ACORN plans to waste more of our tax dollars in a law suit against the people who exposed the extent to which they are wasting our tax dollars….

Fox News: White House Met With 60 Artists Months Prior to NEA Conf. Call
