Mediaite’s Tommy Christopher’s Failed Defense of the ‘N-Word’ Lie Dismantled
by Larry O'ConnorTommy Christopher at Mediaite has decided to wade into the “Phantom N-Word” story and do the heavy lifting of the Congressional Black Caucus, Media Matters, MSNBC and all of the networks and publications that spread the false charges of racism emanating from the health care protests in Washington DC on March 20th. After reading Tommy’s lame attempt I see now why the other apologists for the Congressional Black Caucus have stayed silent for months on this issue.
Let me answer his two main arguments immediately and then provide detailed and sourced evidence to support me answers:
1. There is corroborating evidence from three eyewitnesses who said the racial slurs occurred
WRONG: There is one witness with no corroboration. And that witness is NOT civil-rights hero Rep. John Lewis. (more below)
2. The five videos showing the moment the slurs were supposed to have taken place don’t reveal what each and every person present is saying, therefore, it does not prove the racial slurs didn’t happen.
WRONG: The videos we have provided of the incident unequivocally prove that the scene described by the one witness is a complete fabrication. Furthermore, it is not incumbent on the accused to prove something did not happen, it is incumbent on the accuser to prove that it did.
To back-up his claim that there is corroborating evidence from three respected congressmen, Tommy links to two articles: The original report from McClatchy that started the “N-word” story in the first place and a subsequent piece in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution by Cynthia Tucker where she discusses the matter with Rep. John Lewis.
For three eyewitness testimonies to be “corroborating” they need to support one another’s version of the events. Let’s look at each person’s testimony:
First, Rep. John Lewis has never been quoted on the record by any publication saying he heard racial slurs. Even in the one-on-one interview Ms. Tucker conducted in the AJC, Rep. Lewis himself is not quoted.
Next, Rep. Cleaver’s testimony from the day of the alleged event is:
Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, D-Mo., said he was a few yards behind Lewis and distinctly heard “nigger.”
“It was a chorus,” Cleaver said. “In a way, I feel sorry for those people who are doing this nasty stuff – they’re being whipped up. I decided I wouldn’t be angry with any of them.”
Cleaver’s office said later in a statement that he’d also been spat upon and that Capitol Police had arrested his assailant. The statement praised the police, who Cleaver said escorted the members of Congress into the Capitol past the demonstrators.
The problem with Rep. Cleaver’s compelling statement and testimony is that he was no where near Rep. Lewis as he walked to the Capitol that day. Video evidence proves that fact. Watch:
Now that Rep. Lewis and Rep. Cleaver are eliminated as corroborating witnesses, Tommy is left with one man: Rep Andre Carson.
Rep. Carson inherited the seat his grandmother used to occupy and he has failed to denounce the anti-Semitic ramblings of Louis Farrakhan, the man who eulogized his grandmother at her funeral.
Now, let’s listen to Rep. Carson’s exact description of the events that day, moments after they allegedly occurred:

Rep. Carson says of the scene:
“…kill the bill’”and then the n-word [imitates crowd yelling racial slur] Lewis, his chief of staff, and myself (a former cop) I’m closer to Lewis… [we were] very stoic, looked straight forward, and Capitol Police got the idea. They started surrounding us. It was like a page out of a time machine.
This account brings us to Tommy’s second point which is that the videos we have presented don’t prove everything everyone said therefore they can’t prove the slurs weren’t shouted. Of course, we never suggested they did, but the videos do prove a couple of things.
You can certainly see from the videos we presented that the congressmen are given a wide berth as they trot down the steps at Cannon. They are not surrounded. There are no Capitol Police intervening because there is no need for the Capitol Police. It also hardly looks like a scene that one would anticipate rocks being thrown.
On this point alone the testimony of Rep. Carson should be seen as suspect since his description of the scene is false, let alone his account of what was shouted.
But, specific to the alleged shouts of racial slurs from the individuals in the crowd, let’s again look at how Rep. Carson described the chant:
Cannon….coming out with John Lewis out of the elevator with his chief of staff, and it was just the three of us walking down the steps — ‘kill the bill’, ‘kill the bill’…n – word fifteen times.
Rep. Carson kept repeating the same thing: ‘Kill the bill, kill the bill, N-WORD” and he says he heard it fifteen times. The way Rep. Carson describes it you would think there would be a cadence where the “N-Word” slur fits right in with “Kill the Bill.” And since it is coming fifteen times, you would think that the various camera angles we have offered would pick up the shouts of the slur from the top of the steps, the bottom of the steps, the edge of the curb as the congressmen walk past and the edge of the curb when the congressmen walk into the street. But our cameras don’t pick up anything like what Rep. Carson described.
According to Tommy, if we can’t tell exactly what each person in the videos are saying, despite the fact we have offered video from so many different angles, we must believe Rep. Carson.
Speaking of those camera angles, Tommy asks why we only have 7 – 9 seconds of footage (implying we have left footage on the cutting room floor). The fact is, Tommy only grabbed footage from our latest video (in a series of seven) that we have presented over the past three months. Finally, Tommy points to a man walking behind the congressmen. He calls him an “aide” and asks why he is pointing to someone in the crowd. Here’s your answer Tommy: He’s not an aide. He is Rep. John Shadegg from Arizona. And he is not pointing to someone in the crowd, he is giving a “Thumbs-down” indicating he is voting against ObamaCare. And the crowd cheers him for it. See for yourself:
We urge our readers to read all of the links provided here, look at the videos, look at the behavior and the credibility of the accusers and make up your own minds about this issue. The New York Times has already seen fit to correct their reporting on this episode. And it seems the readers of Tommy’s column have made their opinion well heard in the comment section of his post (Jim Treacher’s contribution is particularly entertaining).

Carson's lie was carried by MSM (including Fox News-up until Brietbart stepped up) and they have been silent on the rebuttal ever since. I am not too optimistic that this story by Mediaite will turn this around.

Call me silly here, but didn't anyone else get called names as a kid in school? Can we quit beating this dead horse? The accusers lost. Their stories don't match… no evidence… just their word and in all that tape of the incident not one N word used.
None of these people are going to issue an apology. Instead protesters just need to make sure those cameras and recorders and going every second especially near any democrat who might make something up.

It's quite obvious that this "incident" was all planned out: We'll get some black Congressmen together, walk through the people, arm in arm, pretending like we're civil rights activists, and hopefully someone will say the n-word. If they don't, we'll say they said it anyway and we'll use Lewis for cover since he's a well-known civil rights activist from the 60s. Have you notice that all leftists have consistently asked everyone to take the man at his word. Except that he never said that he heard it himself and hasn't he distanced himself from the whole thing anyway?

In fact it is just the opposite. Every one of us is a completely unique individual. None of us look alike, act alike, think alike or even smell alike (ask your dog). It is human nature to belong to subgroups for comfort. Not everyone hooks up based on the color of our skin. Some of us group together with fellow policeman, firemen, softball teammates or wherever your group comfort is. Just accept that we are all different and celebrate it. At the point in time during my adolescent age during the late 60's and early teen years in the late 70's, I certainly bought into the equality of all races. I recall my brother coming from kindergarten one day in VA and he started mouthing off with the "N" word. I pushed him up against the wall and got in his face and said that you never say that and told him we are all equal in God's eyes, so knock it off. He turned out to be a flaming liberal and I and the conservative–go figure.
What happened during my youth was that my fellow white friends and I bought up the equality thing, while the black leadership and those on the left rammed affirmative action down our throats. Affirmative Action turned out to be legalized racism. This has gone on for 50 years. It is so entrenched in the world that we get an indignant attitude when we call them on it. Affirmative Action has enslaved blacks to believe they require special help to succeed. With this attitude in place we will never rid ourselves of racism.

In response to your post, I agree for the most part. Although I really like what I see happening with the conservative black movement that is taking shape. I am a third generation Italian. When my Grandfather came to this country, the Italians were the lowest form of life. But like the Irish, Jewish and Germans, they banded together and worked amongst themselves to bring each other out of that stigma. The sad part of your post is the blacks really have been brainwashed by the progressives (slimes). So many blacks have bought into that line that they are and always will be the victim. Like so much of the progressive movement, they manipulate people to further their agenda. Unfortunately for the black community, they are the main tool.
I think she might get that in Nov when she sees the results. Hopefully no more parachutes or gavels for Nancy! Wouldn't that be gratifying.

4) Corruption within our agencies which are in charge of taxpayer funded entitlement programs.
5) Over taxing a nation in a world where every circulating dollar, is what’s going to pull us out, as opposed to giving it to the Feds.
6) An education system which is deteriorating just as fast as the left wing (collective) frontal lobe.
7) Selling our futures to China, at the expense of American factory (maybe union…pay attention, left) jobs.
9) Tying the hands of our troops with ridiculously restrictive “rules of engagement”. War was not meant to be pretty, avoid it at all costs…but when we agree to a course of action, we must be swift and overwhelming, whilst leaving the survivors with a sense of awe.
10) Our Senators and Reps, Judges, Presidents and Vice Presidents all work for us!
11) Backroom deals for executive appointments, which threaten to influence the outcome of an election.

This complete dismantling of Carson will eventually do some good. Whites are expected to overlook Carson et al, Al Sharpton, Tawana Brawley, the Duke rape case, and the false accusations of racism in the Connecticut serial murder, and numerous false nooses and racist graffiti proved to be perpetrated by blacks ( no charges ever brought either ) because blacks by virtue of their history of slavery cannot be racist. Thanks for that Jesse Jackson, who single handedly set back civil rights over the past 30 years. The good is that the narrative, as they say, is worn thin. Look up Congressman Tom McClintock (R)–he's my Congressman. You may remember he lost the CA Gov race to Ahhnold I'm a bigger failure than Barack Obama. Tom was the voice of reason but he lost to the movie star.
Tom has been the budget go to guy in CA for years. He's like a Paul Ryan–knows stuff inside and out. He is in his first term in Congress so he has not made headlines yet. I am definitely voting for him. He is NOT part of the Ruling Class problem–although he is a career politician. The man actually listens when his constitutes talk to him. He has "talk radio" style telephone town halls frequently and does in person ones when not in DC. he has brains and class too. My district is mostly Republican but the Dems put up a good fight. We'll keep him on his toes.

everytime one of these dirt bags is at a public event (speech, town hall, fund raiser) or out on the town with their wives at dinner in a restuant, etc, they should be publicly awarded the "Big Lie" statue along with an announcement to the crowd as to the meaning of the Big Lie award. Post the ceremony on You Tube—over and over and over….

Let me ask you this. If Rep. Lewis truly could prove that these words were uttered why wouldn't he come forward and challenge Breitbart seeking the $100k to provide to say…the NAACP? Wouldn't that be the true coup de gras to put AB in his place? Why doesn't he come forward and man up?
