Welcome to my world. I live about 35 miles east of what once was beautiful San Francisco. Now I won't go through the Caldecott Tunnel for love nor money. That side of the Bay Area is lost – and my once nice, quiet town is now 28% Mexican and most of those are illegal. Crime is through the roof and I don't feel safe here any longer. I noticed that towards the end of the video, at about 6:19, the camera passes a sign with immigrant misspelled. The "loving" group spelt immigrant wth an "A", as in "immagrant."

This is all pretty sad.
1. Those on the other side weren't just your garden-variety teapartiers. One of the groups involved is one that I'd imagine the teaparties don't want to be affiliated with. (Normally I wouldn't need to write this but because we're dealing with teaparties I have to spell it out: I'm not saying they should have been attacked; the opposite is the case. I'm just pointing out that this is another example of not knowing the full facts.)

2. All of this illustrates yet again the sheer stupidity of street protests. Let me be frank: if you're an idiot that seems like the only way to do things. If you aren't an idiot you might be looking for something more effective. In the latter case, find trial lawyers to go to politicians' events and try discrediting them on video. The guy with the Commie banner has no power; pols do have power.

P.S. I've been covering the wider issue since 2002 in literally thousands of posts. And, I've been doing it the right way. For instance, here's my list of immigration advocacy groups, with each number in parens being the number of posts involving that group. Compare that to those who simply encourage you to go throw tantrums and wave loopy signs.

Heck… offer to any Latino in AZ the opportunity to join California as a welfare recipient. If all states did that, they could garner enough votes in California to cede the state back to Mexico and make it a continual repository for all non citizens!

Truly. All we need to do is to take everything they can dish out. As with most bullies if you do not give them the satisfaction by letting them get to us they will eventually move to easier prey. They simply have more people with free time on their hands.

I don't know if it was designed to fail, but fail it did and I believe that it has kept minorities from climbing the so called ladder of success. After all why bother if the education and the government allow them sit back and suck on the tit of society.

I believe that you and I do agree. But I never said it was designed to fail. My observation is that it was destined to fail. I believe that it was designed for the distinct purpose of keeping a group of people dependent on the government in order to keep them on the voting plantation.

Obama just made life a little easier for his Mexican counterpart. His promise to tackle immigration reform this year ensures Felipe Calderon will not come home empty-handed when he visits Washington in two weeks.

Even so, it's a sign of commitment that Calderon needs amid Mexican outrage over Arizona's tough new immigration law. His government has protested the bill — even issuing a travel warning against the U.S. state — while trying to assure Mexicans that the Obama administration remains sympathetic to the plight of migrants.

"I like Obama because he is the first president of color and he wants to help the have-nots," said Rogerio Cantu, 51, who lives in Hermana, a small farming community in northeastern Mexico where many houses are empty because so many residents have left for the U.S. However, Cantu, who himself has lived illegally in the U.S. several times, had little hope for change.
"It was an issue that both sides were keeping very quiet in their bilateral discussions," said Andrew Selee, director of the Mexico Institute at the Washington-based Woodrow Wilson Center. "Calderon is in a better place now to bring this up now that it's back on the U.S. domestic agenda."

Even as the drug war has taken center stage in bilateral relations, life for migrants in the United States has become tougher amid police raids, tighter border security and job scarcity.

Immigration across the U.S.-Mexican border has plummeted, and with it, remittances sent home from migrants. That only makes it more urgent for illegal migrants to have a path for legalizing their status, said Mexican central bank President Agustin Carstens.

"In that sense, it's very important for the United States to reach a migration agreement as soon as possible … and guarantee the rights of our compatriots abroad," Carstens said Thursday during a conference on remittances.

"If Obama has already spoken about a reform it's because he knows the United States needs all those Hispanics who work in the fields and in construction," said Francisco Loureiro, who runs a migrant shelter in Nogales, across the border from the Arizona town of the same name. "I have faith Obama will achieve an immigration reform."

Others, however, worried about whether many of the 12 million illegal immigrants in the United States — the majority of whom are Mexican — would be able to meet the stringent requirements that any new law would require for citizenship. Draft legislation released last week calls for illegal immigrants to pay a fine and back taxes if they want to progress toward legal status.

"If they can make it easier for youths to get their papers, great, but all that about paying fines and taxes — how? All the money they save they send here," said Alicia Rodriguez, an Hermanas resident whose 19-year-old grandson illegally crossed into the U.S. three weeks ago.

An elementary school negro principal in Michigan is under investigation for authorizing a field trip last week for 30 black students to meet with an African-American rocket scientist. Students who are not black were excluded from the outing — a possible violation of a state law that bans racial favoritism in public schools.

"The district is investigating the allegations of violation of the State of Michigan Proposal 2,"

The principal, Mike Madison, who is black, said the trip was part of an effort to close the achievement gap between black and white students. But some parents whose children were not included say it clearly was illegal.

The controversy began last week when the 30 students, members of an African-American academic support group, were taken to hear the rocket scientist, Alec Gallimore, speak at the University of Michigan, where he is an aerospace engineering professor and propulsion lab director.

The goal of the trip, Madison said, was to close test score gaps and inspire the students to consider careers in the sciences.

But parents of students who were excluded protested, and the children who went on the trip were booed by their classmates when they returned to school.

“The intent of our field trip was not to segregate or exclude students, as has been reported, but rather to address the societal issues, roadblocks and challenges that our African-American children will face as they pursue a successful academic education here in our community.”

But Madison's explanation only fueled the controversy, and parental complaints turned into allegations that the school had violated Proposal 2, a newly enacted Michigan law that bans racial preference in public schools.

"If it was directed, guided, organized by the school district, they cannot say they are doing a field trip today for blacks only, or for whites only, or for Hispanics only or for Asians only," Leon Drolet, the former chairman of the Michigan Civil Rights Initiative, told the Detroit Free Press.

In a few more years it'll look like the set for the next 'Mad Max' movie.
