A Different Malik Shabazz and Jeremiah Wright? What Are the Odds?
by Larry O'ConnorAs a frequent contributor to Big Hollywood and Big Government, I was so proud to read Andrew Breitbart’s full-throated correction posted front and center at Big Government the other day. I was not proud that we had made an error that required correcting, but I was proud that we treated it up front and loudly for all the world to see. It is a stark contrast to corrections in the New York Times that are hidden somewhere between the crossword puzzle and the obituaries (which soon will include the Times, itself).
But, the more I thought about the story that prompted the correction (the fact that our headline stated that ACORN CEO Bertha Lewis visited the White House but it appeared that it was a different Bertha Lewis), the more I kept thinking to myself: “What are the odds?” You see, it isn’t just Bertha Lewis who has a name doppelganger out there. The White House also claimed that the Jeremiah Wright who visited there was a different Jeremiah Wright. And, even more credulity-defying, a different Malik Shabazz visited the White House this year as well.
I was discussing this on my internet radio show when I began to wonder what other names on that list could possibly be duplicates. For instance, me? If there is some other Malik Shabazz walking around out there and HE visited the White House, well surely there must be another Larry O’Connor who visited too. I went to WhiteHouse.gov and searched the on-line list of names. Nope, no Larry O’Connor. (By the way White House: it’s culturally insensitive for you to not use an apostrophe when spelling my last name. What have you got against Irish people, anyway?)
So, I opened up the search to my listeners. I asked them to search the data base at WhiteHouse.gov and see if someone else with their name visited the White House this year. Most of my listeners have pretty common names. But, they are not as common as Malik Shabazz, apparently. Gary Eaton, Jill Walter, Meredith Dake, Kellie Jane Adan, Adrian Guillory, and Michael Broderick… all names of my listeners and none of their names appear in the White House log, but Malik Shabazz and Jeremiah Wright’s names do. In fact, only one of the listeners to last night’s Stage Right Show had their name appear on the list. It seems that somewhere out there, another Yvonne Lee visited the White House, not the Yvonne Lee that listens to my show.
This just couldn’t be true. How could there be another Malik Shabazz who HAPPENNED to visit the White House and there not be a Jill Walter? I expanded the search to other names. What about our team here at the Big Blogs? John Nolte, Adam Baldwin, Mike Flynn, Gary Graham, Don Loos and Dana Loesch all are without imposters travelling the country with their name and visiting the White House. Oh and by the way, Andrew Breitbart’s name is not on the list either.
So, here we have a White House posting this data under the Orwellian title “Transparency Like You’ve Never Seen Before.” When names like Bertha Lewis or Malik Shabazz are questioned, the White House claims they are DIFFERENT people with the same names. And, “Big Journalism” buys the story without any further investigation. Whatever happened to getting a second source on something? What happened to “speaking truth to power”? And, most importantly, why am I, a regular American citizen, following up on this story and investigating the oddity of the White House claims instead of someone from a TV network or one of the hundreds of newspapers whose are supposed to be doing this for a living?
Allow me to answer that last question. I am doing this because I am highly skeptical of the White House’s explanation. It defies logic and reason and, I think that it belies the false myth that is the “Open Government” and “transparency” show that the Obama Administration is trying to propagate. The fact is, the people who run the networks and the newspapers in America do not have the same inherent skepticism for this White House or this President. They have supported him every step of the way and they accept an explanation like, “Oh that guy? That’s some OTHER Malik Shabazz.”
But, it’s not supposed to be that way. America’s Free Press is supposed to speak for all of the people, not just the ones that agree with them. Here’s hoping that BigJournalism.com is a place where questions are asked on behalf of those of us who don’t believe the answers we’re hearing.
Oh, and by the way… Eric Boehlert’s name is also not in the logs… what are the odds?

I have thought this all along. Why don't these people with the same name step forward? Does anyone know who they are? I don't buy the White House line on this at all. It should be looked into. It would be quite easy for them to produce the actual people who supposedly visited the White House.

So the odds it is him are low. This administration is rightly in hot water for breaking its promise to CSPAN to televise the reconciliation of health care. But this isn't necessarily the fault of the white house.
Also, even if the nastiest Malik Shabazz visited, it may have been a standard tour.
Interesting that the page to view the names isn't available anymore. I have one of the most common names around (I went to school with two other girls with my exact name, first and last, and have met several more over the years), so I'd be interested to see if my name is on it.

If I were a journalist I would be trying to prove where some of these people really were at the time of the visits. If Bertha Lewis was at a meeting with other people on the day she was supposed to be at the White House, then okay, maybe it was some other Bertha Lewis. But if I could never place her at any other event during times a Bertha Lewis had signed into the White House, then there would be reason to doubt her claim that she wasn't there.
NO ONE buys it. But the Obama WH has nothing but contempt for you and me and everyone else, and the media thinks it's sooooo awesome.
Imagine if I came back to work after just taking a day off without calling in. When pressed for an explanation, I offered that I was whisked away to the state capital for a consulting gig that had implications for national security. And that Obama could vouch for me. Your link to the visitor records gave a 404 error. I went to whitehouse.gov and clicked on "disclosures" and got a 404 error. I put "visitor records" in to the search, and got "the web page cannot be found."
You not only cannot access the records, you can't even SEARCH for the records.
I was a frequent visitor to whitehouse.gov during the eight years of President George W. Bush and not once in eight years did I get a 404 error.

I just did a whitepages.com search and it came up with 55 different ones from all over the US and it came up with 61 listings for Jeremiah Wright and over 100 for Bertha Lewis. What does this mean to you? May I burn in hell but I am going to say this anyway, it is possible that the White House was telling the truth. Now I have to go and wash my mouth out with soap. My guess is that whenever a truly contraversial name comes up the list they have decided that they are going to blame it on an evil twin who just happens to have the same name as the contraversial person. Indeed, what are the odds? It is a fair question and one that likely has an answer. I am no statistician, but something tells me that if statistics will be able to determine what the earth's temperature will be in 100 years, surely there are those who can tell us with reasonable certainty the odds that the "Bertha Lewis" showed up at the White House for a visit or that Malik Shabazz, Jeremiah Wright, and Bill Ayers were just unfortunate coincidences. My guess is that the "odds" will not be favorable to the current administration.

The real question, of the other Bertha Lewis, is how can she get a tour for 1061 people in the party from 10 am to midnight. that's either a long tour, or a party. Now searching for the social calendar doesn't list any party listed, but there is a DC event the week prior for the association of black colleges and universities. As far as the white pages search, Bertha Lewis is listed several times, including 3 in NY that are the 3 Jobs that she holds. ACORN(VP), Working Families Party(executive), and New Democracy Project(Executive Director). The majority of the remaining are household names, that I gather would be hard pressed to invite 1060 other people to go to DC and attend a function for 14 hours.

Larry, I hate to suggest this idea but I believe it has merit… Either the logs are inaccurate and folks are being coy and writing "Mickey Mouse" or, say Bertha Lewis when they visit the White House or this another Administration generated distraction. Given the tremendous immaturity of the White House gang, I would suspect the later. They probably sit in the Oval Office and giggle all day long how they punked all of us over a list of names. It stands to reason that if they entered the white house then they are on video/film somewhere. Then all you need to do is use the freedom of information act to request a copy of the video on the days in question. And like most places I am sure that they had to wear a visitors badge while they were there. Which ment they signed something and were most likely photographed or on video recieving said badge.
I tend to agree with you…this Administration is certainly known for slight of hand tactics, and with Rahm Emanuel in the game throwing curve balls, or is that dead fish? I think we get the picture of their maturity…and again I agree, the whole bunch is disgusting and an embarrassment to America!

Ok now search the database again but specify the visit start date 2009-07-25 , only about 11 people total on that day, only 9 took a tour, no other groups of 311, but the other groups are largish to one degree or another as well

Actually, it's only the claim that all three names belong to 'other individuals' that makes this so hard to swallow. That, and the growing general belief that this Administration has no credibility, and worse, simply doesn't care what we think. It isn't difficult to believe there are other individuals named "Bertha Lewis" and "Jeremiah Wright" besides the ACORN Lewis and the Liberation Theology Wright. Both surnames are quite common, and neither given name is exceptionally rare.

My own given name, "Merry" (derived from the surname of the person I was named for), was rare enough (back in the day) that I didn't meet or know of anyone with the same first name until I was in my 40's.
Then, in the 1990's, I was manning a library booth at a local Chamber of Commerce Expo event; next to my booth was an eye-doctor, born on a Christmas day, named "Merry," my daughter with the same name stopped to say hello, and a library board trustee and her granddaughter, named "Merry," were there. Four of us, within 10 or 15 feet of one another. Since then, I've found online 3 other people with my same first and last name.

I vehemently believe the White House is lying – no second guesses.
I'll give $3000 to the REAL Malik Shabazz that visited the WH. All you have to do is come forward and give reasonable and accurate proof that it was actually YOU, and not the Malik Shabazz of the racist genepool.This is a calling to all news outlets – will the REAL Malik Shabazz come forward for your $3000?
Maybe some brave investigative reporter will call those with the name Martha Lewis and Malik Shabazz and ask if they visited the White House!!
Personally, if my name was in the logs, I would hold a press conference and confirm that *I* did not ever make a visit – approved or not approved – to the White House.
I would be embarrassed if any of my doppelgangers did/do, thus the reason to clarify that ME of Flyover Country has not traveled East since 2005.
The problem is accepting the coincidence that ordinary folks who happened to be named Malik Shabazz AND Berta Lewis AND Jeremiah Wright AND Bill Ayers all show up. The odds of that are roughly 5×10^24 against.
Occam's Razor at its most basic.
