Worse Than Scrooge: Gladney’s Brother and Public Advocate Fired by St. Louis County Hours Before Christmas
by Larry O'ConnorAs bad as Ebenezer Scrooge was, at least he didn’t fire Bob Cratchit right before Christmas. I can’t say the same for the St. Louis Dept of Health. Animal Control Officer, Keith Gladney was fired on December 23rd, less than 48 hours before Christmas Day.
Regular readers of Big Government will recognize the sur name of this unfortunate soul who finds himself unemployed just as the holidays are upon us. Yes, Keith Gladney is the brother of Kenneth Gladney, the man who was assaulted by leaders of the St. Louis SEIU outside of Rep. Russ Carnahan’s Town Hall for Health Care on August 6, 2009.
Considering the fact that government work seems to be the only growth industry in this economy Keith probably thought he was in a stable job, serving diligently for the Animal Control agency, a division of the St. Louis Dept. of Health. And, considering he was just given a positive job performance rating as recently as October, it must have come as a heartbreaking shock to learn of this Dickensian turn of events just he was preparing for his Christmas.
So, what changed between September and today? What could have been the reason for Mr. Gladney’s termination?
Could it be that Mr. Gladney was outspoken in his support for his brother?
That he called on the County Prosecuting Attorney to bring justice to his family for the assault that had been captured on video and detailed in a 23-page police report?
Is it a coincidence that the same Prosecuting Attorney that Keith called out in his statement is also one of the highest ranking officials in the government structure that Keith worked for?

Is it surprising to learn that the Department of Health (the department that oversees the operations of Keith’s agency) works very closely with SEIU Local 1 on County Health related issues and policies?
And why now? Of all times? If they really wanted to punish Keith for his statements in favor of his brother’s case, why wait until now?
Is it a coincidence that this happens hours after the Senate finally got Pres. Obama’s Health Care Scheme passed through the Senate cloture vote and on its way to final ratification?
Could it be that the power structure in the county was waiting for the cloture vote so as to act from a position of political safety with no potential negative repercussions?
These are questions many of us have been asking each other since we heard this sad and disturbing news. Rest assured that Big Government is gathering much information regarding the stated reasons for Gladney’s termination and the facts involved with his job performance. We plan to answer all of these questions in the coming days.
But, for now. All that matters is that a man is suddenly out of work right before Christmas Day. Please, now more than ever, keep the Gladney family in your prayers and let us all hope that 2010 shows them real justice and, dare I say… hope?

i'm not at all surprised. this is how this chicago thug gang does business. but, you know what? this likely will turn out just fine for mr gladney. i know that may sound sick and twisted, but i would be very, very surprised if some local conservative-types don't find some work for him there. i'm an optimist. i believe that good things happen to good people.

As difficult as government employers often are, for good reason, to pull the trigger, Mr. Gladney's firing is indeed striking. At this moment there are an untold number of government employees still taking in taxpayer money despite horrendous performance and/or having committed terrible acts.

Same here, in my State there have been employees that have committed adultry using government buildings/vehicles while on the job, stolen material, used state vehicles for personal trips out of state etc.
Aal manner of other things that would get you canned from most union jobs and yet they are still collecting checks.
Getting fired from a Government job is pretty hard, and they rarely lay people off (and never in onesies)

I suggested some time ago that Kenneth Gladney should persue a civil law suit against those who injured him. Is this not possible? Has anything happened since then? Looks like Keith could do the same.

Yes sir, something good will come of it, I hate to say it, it's an awfully unjust situation and blatant at that, but the silver lining occurred to me as well. Hopefully some locals will network with him and at the very least, he isn't stuck under their thumb. Chances are good the city is broke and who knows how much work was left for him regardless. Also, personally it might be a good time to gtfo of Illinois while he at it, I understand it's probably home but then theirs your sanity and quality of life to consider.

He can always sue his assailants in civil court. I'm sure that he has lawyered up, and he has time for that suit. Each state sets a time frame and the conditions for civil filings. He should have at least a year to file.

Eliminate the taxes you have withdrawn from your paycheck. The government won't be able to use that money from now till April 15th. And if you're not chicken like I was last April 15th, you can NOT pay those taxes when due.
Join in the January 20th protest. Don't go to work, school or wherever. Don't drive anywhere. Don't use the phone, TV or Internet. Don't buy ANYTHING. Stay home and read, sleep or play games/talk with your family.
Join your local Tea Party and actually do something to change politics as usual.
Email, call, fax or visit the media and their editors (TV, radio, newspapers, magazines, etc.). There seems to be a weakening of the Obama messiah worship in some, let's exploit it.
By MAIL cancel your subscription to your local MSM propaganda rag. Tell them why. Note who their advertisers are and send a few of the bigger ones a copy of your cancellation letter (be sure to cc these advertisers on your letter). Tell these advertisers you will not patronize them any longer because they are supporting political propaganda which you object to.

The smell is so foul, that no sane thinking person could tolerate it for any stretch. There's plenty of true believers, partisans and kool aide drinkers, they do command legions of the ill informed follower type, but they do not have the courage of their convictions, which we do.
I think so many people are so startled at what's transpired, and that without knowing all the seedy little anecdotes we feast upon here at BG, that there is a significant opportunity for seriously reigning these maniacs in. I'd caution anyone about getting violent, or insinuating that violence is justified here or elsewhere, it's only going to work against you and for them, and draws attention to the issue. Principled and civil objection to the situation is key, lest we add plausibility to the notion that we're somehow the fringe in this dance, a notion I object to strenuously. The vast majority of people will not be willing to support such an insurrection and it's too easily suppressed along with solidifying the caricature of conservatives and libertarians.
Also, folks won't get behind a damn thing unless their comfort is removed. People are still comfortable. Kill the lights and shorten up the food supply and see how fast people want this shit sorted properly.
