The House Has Done Its Job-It Is Time for the Senate to Do Theirs
by Seton MotleyTo the unrestrained amusement of the completely disengaged Democrats in the Senate and White House, the House Republican Leadership spent all day yesterday, indeed all week, beating the heck out of their conservative, Tea Party contingent to vote for an ineffectual debt ceiling plan from Speaker John Boehner.
There aren’t the House votes for it – as demonstrated by last night’s postponements. There aren’t the Republican votes for it – there aren’t even the five Democrat votes for it that were cast for the far, far better Cut, Cap and Balance (CCB) plan.
Why is the House Republican leadership going to such great lengths to get this far lesser plan passed? Working far harder for it than they did for CCB?
When the Boehner plan faces the same defeat as CCB in the completely unproductive Senate. A defeat with less Senate votes than CCB received.
The House has done its work. Twice – CCB and the Paul Ryan plan. It should not spend one more second contorting the arms of their own to try to pass a third, tepid alternative to the two fine plans they have already put forward.
In a sane, good world, the House leadership would first thing this morning issue the following statement. Then adjourn and go home.
“The House has passed two plans which had unified Republican support. Cut, Cap and Balance had, in fact, bipartisan support.
“We are not going to spend another second beating ourselves up to try to pass a THIRD plan – versus the Democrats’ ZERO plans.
“A third plan which has zero Democrat support in the House. A third plan that the Democrat Senate has – just as they did with Cut, Cap and Balance – preemptively said they have zero intention of working on to make it more to their liking.
“We’ve done our job. We’ve passed the only plan that actually addresses the short-term debt ceiling situation and the long-term debt problem. We have passed it with bipartisan support.
“The Democrat Senate – which hasn’t passed a budget in over 800 days and has offered no debt ceiling plan of their own – has two options.
“They can do what they should have done in the first place – debate and amend CCB to their satisfaction and send it back to the House. To where actual legislative compromise occurs – in the conference reconciliation process.
“Or they can finally pass a plan of their own, which we will happily give what they have never given any of ours – serious, sober consideration.
“But we as Republicans are through beating each other up in yet another round of negotiating with ourselves. In yet another attempt to satisfy a non-participatory Democrat Party that has yet to offer a plan of any kind.
“The House has done its job. Twice. To the Senate we say: You have our plans. Choose one, and start – finally – your portion of the legislative process. Debate and amend, rather than summarily dismiss.
“Write or shape a bill your body can pass, and send it back to us. We promise, we will take your effort seriously.
“It’s time – finally, please – for the Senate to get in the game. We’ve done our job – we anxiously await you doing yours.”

Boehner, who has demonstrated his pension for standing down, should stand down his standing down to media (democrat) meme of "compromise".
Republicans were not sent to majority to spend a little less in deficit. They were not sent to Majority in the House to add to the debt a little bit.
They were sent to STOP THE SPENDING to STOP THE DEBT INCREASES.
We The PEOPLE know that the HOUSE is responsible for the MONEY and without it, NO DEBT can be incurred. We Said NO! to more debt. We, the governed, DENIED OUR CONSENT for more debt. Period.
If the Senate will not relent, so be it. Then the DEFAULT position built into the Constitution happens. The PEOPLE win.
Enough is Enough.
Cut Cap Baloney got more votes but even it allowed the government to used measures that would be no more accurate or true (depending on the party in power). However, this view of the President and Democrat senators bellowing for more compromise from the House when they don't even have a plan is stark in the way it shows the Republicans as squishy. How many times would you go back with new plans when your opponent doesn't offer one? Time to go home and wait for their plan.
I wish this is what Boehner would say, but alas it is probably going to be more of the same. The old Washington political establishment doesn't seem able to do anything different than what they have done for decades. We just have to replace them.

Great article. Too bad the MSM won't report it like it is. The House republicans have done all they should to this point and should demand the Senate do their's. Of course all you will hear on the MSM is that the republicans, and especially the Tea Party freshman are the cause of the crisis. Really?!? 800 days without the democrats even putting forth a budget (unless you count the lame plan Obama put forth that even his own democrats completely rejected), and it is the republican's fault.
At least Clinton did some leading. 0bama is still acting like the community organizer that he is. He couldn't run a lemonade stand successfully.

I read a good article about this topic from Thomas Sowell. I think he states our situation very well. We need to look at how far we have come with only 1/2 of 1/3 of the government. We are still headed for the cliff, but essential precepts have been accepted and we are in a good position to build from here. The commies in our midst have spent the last 50 years getting to their Obama moment. And we, the American People, let it happen right before our eyes and in the dark of the night. We need to be patient as well. For us, it will happen much faster because we have the weapons of common sense and reality by our side. Fiscal responsibility will come back to Washington if we continue our RATIONAL push forward.

I have been thinking lately that I will be living in a foreign country soon. Not that I am moving mind you, just that my home will no longer be in the United States of America. There will not be "a big bang" or "a big solution," merely that on August 3rd, as the debates continue, we will wake up that morning and it will not be my home.
Cut, Cap and Balance was a better bill than this current one they are working on.
Too bad they didn't have more time, they could keep re-writing watered down, weaker versions, until they could deliver a Bill to the Democratic controlled Senate that Harry Reid would gladly approve of………..

Let's do something big here. Let's all e-mail this letter Seton Motley has written to the Speaker. Tell him he needs to send it to the Senate Leadership. Tell him he must do so since the Democrats all want to simply sit back and keep from getting their hand dirty.

I read Thomas Sowell this morning after noticing Walker’s post below us. Mr. Sowell makes very good sense regarding the entire matter. I share the opinion, these freshmen have made a tremendous difference in the House for sure and I believe with that, we’ve forgotten what most of us have posted in the past that it will take more than just one election cycle to literally “clean house”. And there are many important matters before us that will not always succeed the way we’d like. I am trying my best to comprehend whether this is compromise or submission. In my heart, I don’t believe it to be the latter. We can’t let our impatience rule our common sense. But our voices are making a difference, and many are taking notice.
I can accept that a better description than mine……that pic still makes me want to punch my computer screen……

I try not to get wrapped up in the emotion of it all. And I don’t believe the current mantra being put forth is capitulation. What many of us discuss of what possibly lies ahead, the outcome by the deadline would likely not make a difference regardless of the results. But despite all the rhetoric of “the Tea Party is dead”, “Republicans the party of no”…..America is waking up…..some media’s are reporting against the narrative (not much, but subtle is better than none), and Obama’s reputation grows weaker by the day. We do have many battles ahead, and we need all the troops we can get to focus the target and place a bullet into the heart of the progressive agenda……until that ideology is dead……

Wether or not Boehner gets this third bill to pass, I would suggest he make the following statement to the Senate, POTUS, and the American people:
Since Article 1 Section 7 of the Constitution states:
All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills.
Since raising the debt limit definitely is about raising revenue. We in the People's House have "Constitutionally" done our part of the job by putting forth multiple plans it is now high time for the Senate and POTUS to do theirs. We will only consider a bill on this matter if it was originated in the People's House.
Send the CLOWNS in the senate CUT CAP AND BALANCE and tell them to take it or leave it! NO COMPROMISE AND NO RE-WRITE. Then leave it to the LOONS in the senate and the MARXIST-IN-CHIEF to pass it or create a "TRANSPARENT VERSION" we can all see before they try and ram that one down our throats!
It is that simple. Why doesn't Boehner get it?

Last night, I caught Senator Lindsey Graham on… maybe Greta Susteren's show while playing with the tube's remote control. IIRC Graham was advocating elevating the debt ceiling to a point that would get the Republic through to the end of the traditional Federal fiscal year while standing firm on a balanced budget amendment and staking out and defending the CCB bill as the battle ground. The reasoning was to use the time between now and October to make the case for the balanced budget amendment and the CCB bill. Graham said that at least 10 Dem senators have voiced support for the BB Amendment and the time spent in their states lobbying the electorate would, if successful, finally put the bit to runaway government spending.
Lindsey Graham! Whoda thunk?

Absolutely. 2010 was not in vain, not at all. The Freshman class proves TP made THE tremendous difference. Time to finish the job in 2012 now. It won't be easy, but failure is not an option.
Looking at that picture I can only see a den of Marxist snakes. The deal passed by the house smells allot worse than a pile of elephant dung. The bill does absolutely nothing to reduce the deficit and it does not even guarantee a balance budget ammendment. Is Boner a Democrat? He sure looks like one. When you look at the spending baseline we are adding 9 Trillion to the debt over the next eight years. This bill is only an illusion to keep everyone from seeing the that we are adding more debt rather than cutting it.
Think of it this way.
Imagine a morbidly obese person going to the ice cream store and ordering a 1 gallon banana split. He does this every day. Doctor says he will die in 5 years if he does not cut back at least 3/4 of the 1 gallon banana split he is eating every day. However the obese person tells his doctor that he will order 2 gallon banasplits now. Doctor argues with him not to do that, otherwise he will die sooner. After a heated debate the obese man says that he will cut back 1/15 lb from the 2 lb banasplit he is going to eat. The doctor then says he will compromise with that and the obese man goes back home to his wife to rave about him cuting back on how much ice cream he eats everyday, never telling his wife that he is actully eating over 1 3/4 pounds of ice cream instead of the 1 lb banana split he used to eat. A year later the obese man dies.
Our government is the obese man. Boehner is the Doctor. The wife is the american people who have been deceived by the obese man.
