The Debt Ceiling Debate – Yet Another Example of DC Giving Us What We Don’t Want
by Seton MotleyThe entire political landscape is currently engulfed in debt ceiling flames, for largely artificial and concocted reasons.
This man-made inferno is now centered around and fixated upon the August 2 so-called “drop dead” date for reaching a deal to raise the nation’s borrowing limit.
If we do not by then do so, we are told, America will go into default.
Which is little more than repetitive absurdity.
Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has already given us numerous such “drop dead” dates. March 31? April 15? May 16? May 31? July 8? July 22? These were all “drop dead” dates with which Geithner previously tried to concern us.
Now we’re even being told it’s as likely to be August 10 as any of the others.
In short, on this federal government power grab disguised as a fiscal “crisis,” Lil’ Timmy Geithner is many times over the Boy Who Cried Wolf.
These ever-rolling “drop dead” dates prove (at least) one additional thing: conservative Republican leverage for a deal to their liking indubitably increases every day after the date passes – else Geithner would not be so keen on repeatedly moving it.
As with these myriad others, August 2 is only a drop dead date mostly in the minds of Leftists and the Media (please pardon the redundancy) – who wish to manufacture a crisis so that they can then not let it go to waste.
We can no longer borrow money after August 2 – we will still be collecting tons of coin via taxes and fees. To the tune of approximately $200 billion per month – not at all an untidy sum.
But that $2.4 trillion in federal money to be collected this year is dwarfed by the $3.82 trillion we are planning to spend.
(The latter number we’ve reached with a monstrous 29% increase in profligacy in just the last four years.)
And this is one of the many Alice in Wonderland moments in this debt ceiling debate.
We’re borrowing about 40% of the money we’re spending – but that is somehow not the crisis. The “crisis,” we are told, is our not granting ourselves permission to continue doing so.
Thusly do we go through the Looking Glass and down the rabbit hole.
But the other side of that coin is that we still have access to 60% of the money we spend. Which means we are in absolutely no danger of defaulting on our debt.
We can also easily cover the Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, military and veterans’ payments President Barack Obama and others have of late (yet again) shaken like a shibboleth.
So while we will not be able to cover all of the 80 million checks Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner says the feds cut each month, we can easily pick and choose our way around any potential land mines – both real, and fabricated for political purposes.
(And here’s another Lewis Carroll moment – 80 million checks a month? I will bet all the money in my pockets versus all the money in your pockets that the Founding Fathers did not design the Constitution and its government with the intention of it cutting 80 million checks in a century – let alone every thirty days.)
And here’s another dirty little secret the Left and the Media (again, apologies) vociferously insist on not sharing with us. We the People are overwhelmingly opposed to a debt ceiling raise of any kind, under any conditions – by about 2-1.
What we currently have in Washington is a Republican Party agreeing to raise the debt ceiling – the biggest of all compromises – in exchange for fundamental, structural budgeting reform.
Reform of which We the People are in favor – by about 2-1.
And a Democrat Party playing politics – disingenuously demagoguing these genuine, genuinely favored efforts, while offering no substantive plans of their own.
The Leftist-Media nexus is attempting to force-feed us demonstrably false stories – that we must raise the ceiling so as to avoid defaulting on our debt and stiffing seniors, the poor – all the “most vulnerable Americans,” and that the latest, overwhelmingly popular Republican proposal to repair the long-term damage is the “worst piece of legislation” ever.
We the People aren’t buying.

All of this is in ways very similar to how we arrived at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC)’s illegal December Internet power grab – so that they could then impose the absurd Network Neutrality.
Like with the debt ceiling power grab, the Leftist-Media nexus has been long force feeding us scary – and mythical – Net Neutrality stories. About evil corporations that would block us from the Web content we wanted.
Like with the coming – and going – of the many debt ceiling raises, we kept waiting for the alleged Internet terribleness to transpire – and it never did.
Like with the debt ceiling power grab, Net Neutrality was woefully unpopular with We the People. In fact more so. 95 Democrats signed a pro-Net Neutrality pledge in advance of the 2010 election – and all 95 lost.
And in substantive ways, the Net Neutrality power grab is in fact even worse.
On the debt ceiling, you have representatives from both political Parties going along with the terrible joke – pretending that we must raise the roof by this latest “drop dead” date to avoid alleged default.
On Net Neutrality, you had 302 members of the then overwhelmingly Democrat Congress telling the FCC not to do what they ended up doing.
(Not to mention the Democrat-led D.C. Circuit Court – which ruled unanimously that the FCC doesn’t have the authority to do anything to the Internet.)
On the debt ceiling raise, you have several large Democrat-paragon unions fighting on the side of increasing Huge Government.
On Net Neutrality, you had and have several large Democrat-paragon unions vocally opposed.
Not to mention myriad others that are usually almost always in Democrat lockstep – including seventeen minority groups, several racial grievance groups and an anti-free market environmentalist group.
See? Net Neutrality is – even worse.

Both the debt ceiling increase and the FCC Net Neutrality usurpation are insufferable federal power grabs.
That are incredibly unpopular with We the People.
We who have to repeatedly cede our freedoms and our coin in acquiescence to our alleged “representatives.”
Who routinely, rigidly flout or will – rather than represent it. And dictate – rather than listen – to us.
The lessons of 2010 were clearly never learned. They must be retaught in 2012.

This "crisis" was engineered lock stock and barrel by Chairman O, Soros, Geithner, Bernanke, Reid and Pelosi.
The deceptocrats held all of the levers of power for four years straight and yet they passed only one budget since 2007 because they were too busy hiding all of the money they took for themselves.

Obama and the left view the crisis as that we aren't borrowing enough Trillions of dollars for all the spending they want.
And there is the inseperable divide. The rest of us see the crisis as that we're already borrowing too damn many Trillions of dollars and runaway spending needs to stop NOW, not at some mythical future date that never seems to arrive.
This is simply a question of which money we use, and who wants to help or hurt America: For example:
- Do we use money that is sitting in this bloated Socialist Government with wasted duplicate Agencies that are over-controling US? YES. That would help America.
OR
- do we let power-hungry career politicians scheme to borrow more new money? NO. That would further hurt US.
Just say NO, and see how fast the Obama Admin finds excess money! Give them NOTHING. It's the only tactic.
Then watch these ficticious dead-lines come & go and they will find money. Obama can't risk it. Call his bluff.

The only reason anything is being discussed about the debt ceiling and cutting spending at all is due to the TEA party folks. Not the alleged leaders but the hardworking folks on main street America who are fed up with washington's BS, the chicken littles, and the doomsday criers. Americans should be proud of those folks; but, instead, the unions, progressives, and the useful idiots(seems redundant doesn't it?) demean, insult, and attack them continually. Even the old boys club doesn't like us since we are going to hijack the repub party and throw those rino parasites out on their ear(PC for posterior). After that we will take the dim party back from the communists. Yes. The most effective thing we could do is GROW the economy which would automatically increase tax revenues. As some have said – we don't need more taxes, we need more taxpayers. Meanwhile we need the govt to CUT spending. There are way too many lawyers in DC. We need more folks with a business background.
It's only a matter of time until this crisis is too big and martial law will be declared. No more elections and Chairman O will remain the supreme ruler, I mean president, of the Divided States of America.
If the US Government were to default on their debts that would be a bad thing indeed. But as the author points out, we take in more than enough tax revenue on a monthly basis to service our debt, meet our entitlement obligations and take care of the military and veterans. From reports I've read that would leave about $30 billion per month to fund other "essential" services of the government. The problem is that the left view ALL government as essential and are unable and unwilling to decide which parts get shutdown if that becomes necessary. Who are they going to send home without pay? The EPA, DoE, FCC – I mean, how are the people supposed to get along without these bureaucrats controlling their every move?
One of the left's biggest fears – what if the government shutdown – and no one noticed?

There is lots of truth in that statement. Seems that every time the toddler passes gas or dirties his diaper, he has to execute another executive order. The EPA should be fining the brat for polluting the environment. And the environmentalists should be screaming about the unnecessary number of trees being turned into paper to satisfy his selfish, narcissistic needs.
It is much more than Washington giving the American people what we do not want.
What it boils down to, is Washington giving Washington what Washington wants, so that they can in turn have the cash, to go out and buy votes.
And the circle continues.

Considering the lies that this President and his minions are orchestrating, two can play at this game.
If I were the Republicans, I'd:
-EDUCATE the American people that the bills of this country will be paid, that we WILL NOT default, that there is tax money to pay for it.
-then, pass a bill laying out the priorities for gov't spending should the debt limit be exceeded;
-offer the President a 3 month extension on the debt limit in exchange for immediate cuts with more negotiated within the three month period;
-try passing a Constitutional Amendment to balance the federal budget
-should the amendment fail, issue a call to the states to request a convention for the purpose of proposing a balanced budget amendment bypassing Congress and the President;
-pass individual spending cuts ONE AT A TIME and send them onto the Senate. There may be 100 maybe 200 individual bills. Once again, the pressure must be kept on them.
Could this work??? Could the Republicans, themselves, take advantage of a crisis promoted by Obama and his gang of opportunists???
The electorate is asleep. Its attention span is a soundbite in length. Bread and circuses is what they want and this is what Obama is counting on. It is indeed sickening to see how many people have no idea as to how the government works.
In 2008, they were sheep. They were caught up in the American Idol moment and NEVER asked the hard questions or considered Obama's policies or looked at the people he associated with. They gave him a pass and wanted to make history electing the first Black as a president. Will he ge gone in 2013? I wouldn't trust this electorate to do the right thing. we've known about this debt ceiling limit since the last time we raised the debt ceiling… that the Dems keep parroting the idea that this somehow snuck up on us and requires us to drop everything and deal with it is disingenuous. Dems have done everything possible to shirk their responsibility and have tried awful hard to pin this "failure of leadership" on the Repubs.
My question is why haven't Republicans called them on the carpet? Why haven't Republicans continually reminded Americans that no Federal budget has been passed since the Dems took over Congress? Why haven't they continually noted that Democrats have delayed this issue for the point noted in my previous paragraph? Why haven't Republicans put the Dems on the defensive for a change?
Watch for Bernanke to send Geitner an electronic transmission of about 1 trillion dollars in the next few days. That would have a pronounced effect on the "managed decline of the dollar".

Congress, when controlled by the dims, had the opportunity to take care of all this; but, as usual, dallied and failed miserably to enact a budget and raise the debt ceiling. Can we expect more from them? Heck, they don't even read the bills coming up for a vote. They have to pass it to find out what's in it.

Each and every morning my husband and I get up and work harder and harder for less and less money…..
We in the middle-class (ha that's a joke title) the, we pay for everything class…. are exhausted. For over 40 years we have given away taxpayer money to "Help" the poor gain equal access to the "Mainstream". We've gone from issuing HUD housing projects to living in luxury condominium complex's, with pools, ac and cable tv 24-7, single family dwelling's full paid rent to the owners at market rate for section 8 housing. Free groceries, Free breakfast's and lunches at school (which makes no good sense in that we just bought their groceries for the month). qualifying for the free lunches also gives you open gate access to the many other FREE government gimmies we the "Middle-Class" pay for.
Don't get me started on the free Medical and Dental services this same POOR are handed while I just get the bill. Have you noticed just how many "Smiley Dental Centers" there are? I understand fixing a kids broken tooth in an emergency, or putting in a filling… but why am I paying for $5,000.00 braces for every kid that qualifies for free lunch, etc.?
Hum…. where to cut… where to cut? Maybe it's time to get a full breakdown on just who and how much each of these parasitical needy citizens are collecting a year? Why is this not a short term loan that they will and should PAY BACK? It would be an amazing eye opener for the collectors of all things FREE to get a bill or statement at the end of the year pretty much the same as I get my W-2 that states, how much from ALL agencies combined they received FREE…. I would bet you what I have left after taxes, that the POOR of America receive upwards of $80,000 or more a year just in accumulative "Incentives and services". That is why we are broke.

In my view he “may” want to cause a Alinsky style “Manufactured Crisis” by driving America off the financial cliff by NOT compromising on the debt ceiling and pushing the US into a technical default. The sad fact is that Obama is responsible for the MASSIVE deficits over the last three years that have singlehandedly put the U.S. in this exact position. He got the USA to this point the old fashioned way, HE DID IT.

Barack Hussein Obama and other Statists are talking about invoking the 14th Amendment claiming it gives the President the authority to raise the Debt Ceiling and by-pass Congress. I guess they are referring to Section 4 of the Amendment which states: …The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned…
Who is questioning the validity of the debt? No one. Many people are questioning the amount of debt and the need to cut spending. The debt has been incurred and needs to be paid. The Government has the money to pay the debts that would not cause a default without raising the debt ceiling.
I am not an attorney, however I can read and I do not see where in the 14th Amendment it gives the President the authority to by-pass Congress and raise the Debt Ceiling on his own. We are not living in a Dictatorship, at least not yet.
Nevertheless, since Obama and the Statists want to invoke the Constitution they may want to check out the following: Section 3 of the 14th Amendment states: No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
Article 2 Section 4 of the Constitution states: The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
It is considered an Act of Treason to give aid and comfort to our enemies. The Obama Regime has been funding the Taliban and wants to fund the Muslim Brotherhood. The Taliban and the Muslim Brotherhood are enemies of the United States. The Muslim Brotherhood is a mortal enemy of our civilization. Their slogan says so openly, their way is Jihad, and their method is death. The Muslim Brotherhood calls for a “Civilization-Jihadist Process,” in which they would destroy the Western civilization from within. Nevertheless, Barack Hussein Obama has opened formal contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood and wants to support them with $3 billion.
Therefore, wouldn’t this act be considered giving aid and comfort to the enemy and considered an act of Treason? Wouldn’t Obama be violating his oath of office he swore to, which is to uphold and defend the Constitution? After all, the primary responsibility of Government is to protect its citizens from its enemies. Furthermore, the Constitution specifically states the President can be impeached for an act of Treason. If Obama decides to go through with supporting our enemy, The Muslim Brotherhood, will Congress have the COURAGE to impeach him?
