The Political Landscape: The Slobs Versus the Snobs
by Stephen GreenLast week, Dick Morris became the first pundit to predict a Republican sweep of both houses of Congress next year. Looking at Obama’s sliding poll numbers, and increasing voter frustration, Morris said, “This erosion of support makes the elections of 2010 look more and more like a rerun of 1994.”
Yeah, yeah, I know — it’s Dick Morris saying this, take it with a silo of salt and all that. But Mort Kondracke is one of the more level-headed pundits in DC, and he noted Pew’s study saying that “voters’ anti-incumbent mood is approaching 1994 and 2006 levels,” when Congress changed hands. Kondracke added that he thinks that “there’s reason to believe that the public’s anger is even deeper than Pew’s estimate because voters believe – correctly – that ‘the way things are going’ is not getting better.”

Kondracke was saying all this in the context of seeing “an opening” for a third party to make it big in 2010. But don’t be too certain.
Usually, third parties coalesce around a single candidate (like Ross Perot) or a single issue (like the Greens [no relation]). America’s current funk isn’t really about a single issue, but about a whole host of issues — and Washington’s inability (Democrat and Republican alike) to deal with them. If that seems like fertile ground for a third party, in this case it isn’t. Because what the country really needs is a second party.
Please, let me explain. You might want to pour yourself a lovely adult beverage, because I’d had one or two when this occurred to me.
Outside the Beltway, there really are two parties: Democrat and Republican. Inside the Beltway, there is but one party: The Insider Party. The right wing of the IP is made up of a few Republicans, the center consists of the bulk of Ds and Rs, and the far left wing features the current leadership and the Mainstream Media. As a whole, the Insider Party sits well to the left of the rest of the nation.
The Insider Party, by and large, puts Washington’s welfare well ahead of the country’s, but that doesn’t mean it’s at all exclusive. After all, joining the Insider Party is simple: Get elected to a public office serving in D.C., or have good looks and a journalism degree from Columbia.
None of which is really all that difficult, even though I refuse to have any work done to my nose. Anyway.
So, yeah, what we need is a second party. We need at least one party to represent the interests of the people of these United States. Because the IP represents little more than the parochial concerns of an otherwise forgettable city with little of note, other than surpluses of oversized egos and comb-overs.
But what about this TEA Party? Wouldn’t that make a good start?
No offense to my TEA partying friends, but no. I’m sympathetic to the cause, a booster even. But we need to work with the available materials, as distasteful as that is. In a poll just released by Rasmussen, the TEA Party out-polled the Republicans on a generic ballot — effectively splitting the conservative/libertarian vote and handing …everything… to the Democrats.
Which just goes to show that third parties almost always hurt their causes more than they help them. “Thirds” provide a nice outlet for voter anger, but if Ralph Nader had just stayed home in 2000, we would have seen President Gore sworn into office on January 20, 2001. I’m not saying that would have been a good thing, mind you — I’m just saying.
For years now, I’ve joked that mass-participation democracy wasn’t getting us very good candidates, and even worse winners. It seemed sometimes that the best way to hold elections would go like this.
- Jack up both candidates on Rodney King-quantities of PCP.
- Shut them up in a room together with a time-lock on the door, and a razor-sharp hunting knife on the floor.
- An hour later, when the door opens and the survivor emerges like a bloody, coke-addled groundhog — shoot him dead.
While it does have certain merits, my plan just isn’t very workable. But we do know one thing for certain: The Insider Party has got to be shown the door. Enter our Second Party, stage right.
Second Party candidates would be people from outside the beltway, who understand that their job is to represent their constituents back home. But how to pick these unprepared candidates? How to run them? How to get them to win?
If we want fiscally conservative/socially moderate candidates — and we do, don’t we? — then the TEA Party might have an important role to play, helping select outside-the-beltway candidates in primary races. And as we’ve seen the last few months, those TEA partyers know how to drum up support for a cause — so why not for candidates, too? Real grass-roots stuff. The TP could become kind of an ACORN group for people with real jobs.
If still we fail… if the TEA Party splits the rational vote and the country descends into madness… then there is one thing more we could try.
Move the capital to Topeka, Kansas, and don’t let them have air conditioning or central heat. That’ll give the bastards maybe six weeks a year when they’ll show up to do their jobs. Still four weeks too many, but it’s an improvement. That’s part one.
Part two answers the remaining question: What do we do with Washington, D.C.? We wall it up, in the middle of the night, Escape from New York-style. And we leave everybody in there, from the President on down to the lowliest freshman-Congressman’s unpaid intern. Within days they’d be reduced to cannibalism, which, when you think about it, is morally a step up from what they’ve been doing to the rest of the country.
But that’s the whole point, isn’t it? To a member of the Insider Party, it’s never a question of goals — aggrandizing Washington — it’s merely a question of timing and cost. So they’ve all got to go, and we’ve got the power to make that happen. At least for now we still do — if we’re willing to stop pretending that a 30-year incumbent Republican is any better than a Democrat who sees politics as a temporary civic duty. Or the other way around.
Kick the bastards out, all of them. We certainly couldn’t do any worse.
And if nothing else works, we can always nuke the site from orbit.
It’s the only way to be sure.

"… if the TEA Party splits the rational vote and the country descends into madness…"
That has happened, prior to the Tea Party emerging on the scene. The Maddness is what caused the birth of the Tea Party.

Cowboy is right; and the split was coordinated by the Insider Party. It was a very deliberate effort.
Personally, I think 2010 will make 1994 look like a Barbie Tea Party. So many of these scumbags are going home they'll need additional flights to get them all out of there.
"In a poll just released by Rasmussen, the TEA Party out-polled the Republicans on a generic ballot — effectively splitting the conservative/libertarian vote and handing …everything… to the Democrats." so, I figure what we need to do it to light a FIRE under the Republican party!! Let them KNOW that WE are not going to put up with any more of their b/s of siding with the Democrats!! If they do they are OUT!!!
"And if nothing else works, we can always nuke the site from orbit.
It’s the only way to be sure."
Nothing is sure and certain. Just as it has always been said that the wily cockroach is the one insect that would survive a nuclear holocaust, I'm sure that once nuclear winter was over, just like the groundhog in the spring, Harry Reid would poke is pencil necked head out of a hole, with Bawney Fwank wight behind him and the party would start anew………..
it seems that those close to, or inside of the beltway still don't quite 'get it'. the tea party movement is the result, and the cause being the unchecked growth of the federal government. as a part of the tea party movement, i couldn't care less about a third party. i want candidates that support my views and that will do what they say they will do! us 'ordinary people' will be imposing term limits on a great many incumbents!
For Republicans, voting party line is what gets us McCain, Snowe, Collins, etc. – politicians that have no conservative backbone. I can respect someone I completely disagree with if the stand by their principles. I vote locally for Democrats because I know they will be the best person for the job. We need to get back to voting for person instead of party and we need to make sure we have decent people to choose from. We shouldn't have to hold our nose to vote for the lesser of two evils because evil still gets elected and the America loses.
I hope the Tea Party brings the Republicans along with them and not take Voters to a new party. That would be disastrous and defeat the purpose. Having said that, people are mad and all bets are off.
Reagan said the same thing in ’76 about needing a true two party system, when he challenged Ford. Of coarse we didn’t listen, and we got the peanut. I agree a third party would be suicide for conservatives, instead field conservative candidate in the primaries, and as Reagan said have a true two party system. I agree, 2010 is going to be ugly for incumbents. I advise, if you’ve decided politics was going to be your “career,” you got another thing coming.
the problem is we have too many morons that voted for people like Obama and his fellow scumbags… what does that say about our population,,, Obama got their somehow. and even though Acorn got in a few thousand or even million illegal votes.. we still have too many really stupid people who voted… those people should not reproduce,,, what a travesty..
A third party on the right guarantees a leftie sweep. It would be secretly funded by Soros et al. and promoted by the media. Sarah Palin is ready-made for such madness. I hope she's smarter than to go along with it.
As much as i love the idea of a 3rd party, it will split the sane people an the left will mantain control in Government, therefore the only option in IMHO, is to elect no RINO'S .
How do we channel the anti-incumbent anger in the country into something that cleans house in Washington? It appears to me that we need to rethink how we look at candidates. This sounds weird, but maybe it time to start promoting candidates without 'Political Experience' and more common sense. The founding fathers were not experienced in government, and they didn't do too bad with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
Making new law should NOT be the benchmark for how effective a candidate is. Staying out of our lives, and supporting our freedom, I think, should be. Our current crop of 'leaders' continue to try to 'save' us from ourselves, by taxes and legislation that are supposed to modify our behavior. If you don't approve of someone's behavior, Educate, don't legislate! But that's a topic all unto itself.
Steve,
Could not agree with you more. Where to start? Well lets get the Arizona Tea Party to help throwout McCain, No Inside the Beltway man. He is vulnurable. We need to push JD to run against him. Can McCain be defeated in Arizona? http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/blogs/b...
"Vote ALL Incumbents OUT" is a great idea that has been bantered about for several years. The main reason that it has not worked up until now is that voters throughout the country have seen it as a great idea, just not in THEIR state or district. It seems that no group is brave enough to give up that senior politician, who sits on many important committees, and directs untold government funds in their direction. What we need is a group of strong-willed individuals who see outing ALL career politicians as the best thing for our country. Term limits are a must.
A friendly challange to everyone posting on this website! We're all complaining about the parasites in Washington. What are you doing about it locally? All politics starts at the grass roots level. If everybody who's commenting and blogging, were also active locally, we could clean house in 2010 and 2012,
I once saw a problem in our local community, and said "Somebody ought to do something about this!" Then I realized, "I'm somebody", and I did something about it. I got the ball rolling and others joined in, a few years later, much of the problem was solved!
Obama received support in large part because of a huge media effort to prop him up – how else could he beat Hillary? The media will continue to remain biased and corrupt and this is what we must overcome in 2010.
As Mr. Green correctly asserted, what we need is a second party.
While the leadership in Washington has been tone deaf to the concerns of the American people, I don't see much evidence that the Republican party has learned very much either.
When will we get a second party?
I don't think it's accurate anymore to talk about Zombie Reagan. He lives on in the hearts of true conservatism.
It's the GOP that is the walking dead, and far past reanimation. I lived through the results of Perot's bid, and we all survived it. We may not survive the merging of the GOP with the Dems, however, which is what Newt and McCain and all of the other worshipers of the Expedient Moment have given us. Perot was ill-timed, not ill-conceived.
As I posted elsewhere, every fiber of my being told me what I wanted to know after the November elections. Indeed, after the nomination of McCain: it's dead, Jim. Dead. Not pining for the fjords. Not resting its eyes.
I don't want a "new" GOP. I want to mourn the old one and then go to the pound and find some feisty, non-blueblooded, half-wolf halfbreed of a political party and name it "Spike" or some such. Tired of the baggy-pantsed, wrinkly, old elephant.
.
It's about time people see both parties for what they really are… Two sides of the same coin. Both aim to limit your freedom. One through war mongering and fake patrotism. The other through social justice and race baiting. I will not vote either of these collectivist carnival barkers….. Neither adds to my life, liberty or pursuit of happiness. They only know how to take.
I don't know, I kinda like the wall idea. Imagine never having to see some of those faces again.
Joking aside this article is right on. We need politicians who put the country first and who have real jobs.
Yeah but let's face it, all of this mess we are in took more than one year to do (I know more mess was created in 6 months than ever before) but just the same the Republicans have to be honest and admit they did not always do what was best for the country either. They also need to stop their stupid bickering and get down to what government was created to do. Set policies that promotes freedom and stay out of the way of a lot of what they meddled in.
Joan.
Excellent!
I don't want some pan-sexual, Metro-sexual with khakkis and penny loafers and no socks. Someone with coiffed hair like Boehner or Anderson Pooper Cooper. I want a mutt that will kick ass and take names.
The current republican brand? They run schit zu's or charpaie's as pit bulls, and call them Cujo…….
Don't get me started with the horrible label of "Tea Party" which continues to evoke the GOP elitist mentality.
I'm calling it the New Whiskey Rebellion!
The Dems have spent decades cultivating and nurturing their constituency; think "gimme gimme gimme" and plantations. They will lie, cheat and steal to win an election; think Obummer '08. I don't think much of their "principles", but at least they are consistent.
The Repubs have toddled along, mainly whining, sometimes winning (think Reagan and Gingrich). The Repubs mouth high-falutin' principles but abandon them at the first sign of resistance.
Movements such as the Tea Party arise because people get tired of the lying, cheating, stealing and unprincipled two parties that dominate the political climate. Those two parties represent the status quo and will do anything to protect it.
Running third party candidates at this point in time is a bad idea. That does not minimize the Tea Party as a political force. It could replace the vaunted "independent" as the voting block that the major parties need appeal to in order to win elections.
For 2010…THROW THE BUMS OUT! VOTE ON PRINCIPLES, NOT PARTY AFFILIATION!
When we vote them out in the primary elections. We have to really watch for voter fraud. They are going to do whatever they can to stay in power.
Whiskey Rebellion?
Everything is relevant. Do you know why George Washington took a larger army to put down the Whiskey Rebellion in Western, Pa, than he did to fight the Revolutionary War? Washington was the largest producer of whiskey in the Colonies. The first act of government agression to stamp out competitive trade………..
some people have ranted about this in new jersey for the past few election cycles. They even call it GRIP-Get Rid of Incumbent Politicians. Despite the shape NJ is in (right behind CA), people keep electing the same leaders. Thank God Christie got in-it should be interesting to see how he works with a democrat legislature. I don't see how it could be any different on a national level. I think people are correct in saying that it starts at the grassroots level and fielding good candidates in the primaries. I think that if someone is fiscally conservative they will have a good shot even if they might be socially liberal.
Yes, I am in command of my faculties and don't arrive at too many places by accident!
"Tea Party" is so weak a moniker as to make me think the AP named it, and not any real patriot.
However, Firefly Sweet Tea Vodka could be shortened to the Firefly Party and I'm all about misbehavin'. . .
I am 61 years old. This crap has been going on for 61 years before I was born. Throw these Bastards out. The Bastards from both parties, excuse me, and the Bastards from the Independent party to.
Then we pick some Bastards that we can control. Just remember – the new Bastards are pol's to
"The TP could become kind of an ACORN group for people with real jobs."A good line. And if we want people who still have jobs to continue to keep their jobs and get private sector job growth going the democrats have to lose control of both houses. This was a great article and a lot of good comments but for now we have less than a year til the next election.
In the rasmussen poll the democrats polled 38%.I don't see that staying that high by 2010 because what's happening in Washington will kill the financial situations of the majority of Americans.Republicans polled 18%,the undecideds 22% and the tea partiers 23%.I see most of the last three groups going with republicans. Most people in the last three groups work and pay taxes.Everyone's getting hosed by the democrats.
Starting work at the grass roots is a must to clean out Washington but Nov.2010 will be one of the most important elections in our history. This country needs to be yanked back to the right next year and a third party would hand the democrats total victory.
I share the writer's concern for third parties, and I'm not so sure the libs aren't just planning on doing another Perot/Nader effort in 2010 in order to split the vote and stay in office. After 2010 we'll have the redistricting, due to the census, and orchestrated by the White House, i.e., ACORN and the SEIU. Game over!
We need a redirection of the efforts of the Tea Partiers into a faction of the Republican Party. Quit complaining that "they're all alike," and join up, take over, and make the changes you need to put common sense back into your party of choice (the Republicans) and shove the thugs of the Insider Party out of OUR government.
To try to establish a third party will do nothing but shred our Constitution and end freedom as we know it in America!
The Tea Party needs to work within the two party system and plan for long term to ensure that our values are being implemented. First, score the candidates and promote those with their / our values, in the meantime it may mean choosing the lessor of two evils. Second, when the majority is achieved, work to remove those who do not share the individualistic ideals. Third, stay active, none of this 'lost our way' BS. Keep on these guys, make them stay the course. Stay a step ahead. Lastly, keep the movement growing, take back the institutions, schools, etc.
Thank you Mr Green, Actually, the idea of moving the Capital I was contemplating for my home state of WI, and to relocate our State capitol, as WI has become so Socialist, like the Fed Govt. Really now, we would have to pattern our actions after the Founding Fathers movements…1. The Pilgrims and following people escaped from the World Power. They separated and disconnected from them, similarly to a divorce…
Why do we continue to mouth the left's talking points here. Nader had absolutely nothing to do with Gore's defeat.
If a Tea Party ran a presidential candidate, it would hand a victory to Obama in 2012. Bad idea. But if a Tea Party only ran congressional candidates in RINO districts (NY-23 redux), then there could be more conservatives to put the brakes on crappy laws and appropriately spank the Republican establishment. With luck, the Republicans would return to conservative roots by 2012 — maybe even 2010 — and the Tea Party would have provided a valuable service. Good idea. In any case, if the Republicans run RINOs like McCain, I'd rather stay home than pretend I was advancing my principles by voting.
I think we should send them home in hybrid clown cars, back to homes with energy governing meters and mercury laden fluorescent lighting. They should be forced to sign up for medicare as their only health care option. Half of their wealth should be taken and redistributed. Any business they consider starting should be taxed into oblivion. A central authority should monitor their carbon footprint. Any poor eating habits, obesity, or adult beverage consumption should also be punished. If they complain, they should be ridiculed and silenced; their concerns ignored and their activities investigated. If they become victims of crime or terror, we should sympathize with their attackers. Their children should be forced into sub-standard, inner-city public schools so they can be more easily controlled for generations to come.
In short, we should do to them everything they are trying to do to us. And when they ask why we have done this to them, we should tell them this is our definition of social justice.
Steve G all others should read the Book of Daniel in its entireity to understand the Signs of the Times. This tells the beginning and ending of the 4 Major World Powers starting with Ancient Babylon and ending with the divided Roman Empire..The only thing left on the table now, is the last week of Daniel, or called Daniel’s 70th week…The book of Revelation is a more detailed future event explaining the last week…a time of Great Tribulation. The New Testament tells how to escape those things.
Couldn’t agree more. Although I think we the people should use your nuclear option first. Saves time and money.
I always agree with Cowboy. For our situation right now, we have to realize that we can’t put new wine into the old wineskin. Therefore, our solutions have to be creative and would probably seem to be outrageous at first. We can not afford to think like them or do actions like they have been doing. The soocialists always want a confrontation, so that there will some sort of compromise…We don’t want compromises, right? So, maybe we ought not confront them, and simply think anew and start anew and ignore them…They hate to be ignored as they are hooked on their own adrenalin, as their excitement builds up.
Count the Vote? – Do they intend have the "stimuli employment" people like SUEI, ACORN, etc. count OUR votes, ? I used to "vote", from overseas, in Polk County, FL (algore country), or thought that I did – via absentee ballot.
I have gotten to the point of where I do-not/can-not believe most/all reports "issued" by the govt! Actually – MOST of their propaganda – I hear (didn't say "listen to"!) after it has been "filtered", at least, three times – DOWN – to local level!
Ok, all we have to do, start LOL…Get the Islamist Terror cells extremely pissed off at Wash. D.C. Like ahh, tell them that the prison systems their buddies are in, are going to serve pork chops, ham sandwiches for many of the meals…and they are going to put little piglets in the outside yards…and maybe put one in the jail cell so that they have a pet.
Islamists will believe lies and rumors more so than Americans who are being fooled right now. Then they get pissed off and do something bad to Wash.
Or tell them that it is Harry Reid’s and Nancy Pelosi’s idea and they have more power than the pres. obummer. Sit back and watch the show.
Well, that's how CA got Schwarzenegger…we voted for a man who wasn't what he said.
Count the Vote? – Do they intend have the "stimuli employment" people like SUEI, ACORN, etc. count OUR votes, ? I used to "vote", from overseas, in Polk County, FL (algore country), or thought that I did – via absentee ballot.
The best thing in Steve’s article is he gave the nucleus politicians a very descriptive name, The Insider’s Party. Now that the enemy has a name and its members listed and categorized, we can work on getting them out of office, specifically them….Remember, when Pres Bush made a deck of cards with a picture of each of the Most Wanted Terrorists on them? That’s what we need, If a deck like this were available, I’d buy one right now. The IP is to be considered a puppet, too, and somebody’s pulling there strings.
Am I the only one who reads these articles and have Vince Fynn novels come into my mind?
Not too impressed with the article. Sorry. Nothing new.
As far as compromise… I think both parties are at a point wher neither want to compromise. Democraps are having closed door meeting, are shooting down proposals by Republicants… Republicants are blocking everything. It's rediculous, it's elementary playground behavior. And it's all being instigated by NObama. His partisan actions and policies are killing the nation. He's sooo partisan he wants all non-dems out of gov jobs. He's a soon to be Dictator.
Aside from armed revolt, Our only option is to take over the Republican party leadership and redirect the ship, or have multiple, strong third party candidates running at all levels of government.

Don't fall for a third party! It's a trick.
To be elected, each candidate should at least have business experience and be well-versed in the constitution.
Instead of whining, start pointing out real Americans who should lead this country. How about this man running for congress he is worth supporting.

He has been a leader and knows how to lead. He is running for Congress in Florida and you can support him no matter what state you live in.
Lt. Colonel Allen West for Congress – Florida District 22.

Most third parties on the last hundred years have been about one single issue, or one candidate as Steven Green writes. The Tea Party Movement is different than any other third party in many ways. One plus million people in Washington on 912 has announced the power of the American people. Polls show the people want their country back, no mo more “fisting” classes and politically motivated left wing misinformation taught in our schools. Leave our holidays alone, no more liberty robbing PC drivel, etc. The people are awake ant they are pretty red assed about the corruption in congress.
no need to make more than 500k per year, if the taxes we pay are…
39.4%+5.6(HEALTHCARE)+5.0(WAR TAX)+10.0(STATE)+2.5(CITY)=62.5% TOTAL TAXES BEFORE PROPERTY TAXES, SALES TAXES, ETC….THIS MEANS I WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT TILL SEPTEMBER?????
BEFORE I CAN KEEP ANY OF MY HARD EARNED MONEY?? TO PAY MY MORTGAGE, CAR PAYMENTS, FOOD, ENETERTAINMENT, SHOPPING?????SCREW IT….I WILL CUT BACK TO TWO DAYS A WEEK AND SEMI RETIRE BEFORE I DO THAT…..WHO THE HELL IS GOING TO PAY FOR ALL THIS CRAP??? NOT ME…………..

My calculus: If you want to see America 1 year from now under current regime take a peek at California (bankrupt). If you want to see America in 3 years take a trip to Detroit. If you want to see America in 7 years, take a trip down Venezual way…. I have not been that politically active before. Usually, but not always, voted Republican because they more approximated my views than Dems. We are out of time for third party, however. So, for firat time in my life I just contributed $$ to RNC. Not a perfect solution, but this is triage and we that is the only party in any position to stop the madness before it is irrevocable. From there longer-term change can be effectuated.
Good column, Stephen Green.
We need the Outsiders (And Proud of It) Party.

"Because what the country really needs is a second party."
Sorry Dude. We need a FIRST party.
And I've considered much this. Expect Soros & Co. to get shadow candidates in multiple races to muddy the waters. Expect violence IMHO once people figure out after election day what transpired.
I agree, we need to "Infiltrate" the GOP and take it over, not start a whole new party.
I think this is exactly right, using an asymmetrical assault take over the GOP and diminish the DEM's, after which you can change the GOP name to anything you want, the name is irrelevant.
Use Tea Party to vet candidates and hold the GOP to a standard, make the standard those willing to sign on to some basics, job creation via tax relief (major not minor), balanced budget to stop the bleeding of the US treasury, etc. major broad strokes that people will respond to and easily understand.
Probably have to overwhelm the caucuses of the GOP internally with Tea Party supporting rep's as well.
Strategic civil disobedience pre-election that catches the media's attention forcibly and calls out the democrats complete insanity (like the Fisting Czar, Over Spending ) etc.
The cherry would be to split the Dem's internally and infiltrate their caucuses to promote really nutty and bad candidates that people would be revolted at.
Let's face it the Profascists have declared open war and humanities survival depends on defeating them.
Now that our elected jerks are going to pass this abomination, how do we get rid of the whole mess after it's passed? Once we do that, then we can throw them all UNDER the jail.
Thinking Man – You got it! Poster who mentioned Palin as 3rd party candidate is hopeful, but wrong. She is lighting rod for Left and will drive their voters to polls in dorves. Some GOPs will not vot e for her and voila- Dems seep. No, we need to use GOP now and then change. With huge influx of new $ to GOP they will listen to the new money's agenda or they know funds will dry up. Besides, it is something evryone opposed to this crap can do now and have short term impact. the infrastructure for funds, PR, candidates is all there. Time to use it, because we are out of time. Join me in Project Hermit Crab…..
The Dems want us to start a 3rd party just so they can win by default. We got McCain because the Dems insisted he was the only one they feared; they used reverse psychology on us and had the playbook to defeat McCain already written before the Repub primaries…that he was old and another Bush. It worked. I agree with the poster above who said that we need to infiltrate the Republican Party. We also need to keep certain senators and congresspeople away from the TV cameras…Mitch McConnell was fine in his day, but he's coming off as doddering now. Fresh faces like DeMint and Thune, who sound knowledgeable and speak very fluidly; we need to give a new face to the party. Have Tom Coburn get up and talk about what a disaster Obamacare will be. Repub leaders right now have been in DC too long and are too gentlemanly; they don't know how to fight fire with fire. They give the Party an "older" look and we need to attract young people to make the party more appealing overall. Also some conservative minorities would help.
Several reactions: In my heart, I'd love to see a third party–but as has been observed throughout this thread, third parties generally make it easier for the "other side" to win (Bull Moose, Perot, etc). Unfortunately, I think it's impractical at this point; the nation will not be able to survive two terms of The One, and more immediately, the name of the game for 2010 is redistricting. If we can't produce massive gains for the GOP (not just in the House and Senate, but in governors' mansions and State Legislatures as well), we are going to see permanent majorities created for the Dems.
OTOH, part of the reason Newt and Dick Armey were so successful in '94, was that they managed to elevate 435 local Congressional races into one national referendum on Bill Clinton's presidency. Newt fashioned a tea-party like platform, and every GOP candidate ran on that platform (in addition to whatever local issues each one needed to address). Does anyone really think that John Boehner is capable of doing the same sort of thing? Do we really think that he has that tea party spirit, and the ability to offer himself up as a Shadow President, the way that Newt did? I think the answer is obvious. Give me an Eric Cantor or a Paul Ryan any day of the week, instead.
Running tea party-branded candidates against RINOs in primaries appeals to me quite a bit. However, it's going to require a heck of a lot of money, and a heck of a lot of organizational skill, something which tea party people are going to take a long time to develop. I live in an area where the local GOP are a bunch of hacks, had been out of power the past eight years, and have just come roaring back last month, riding this anti-incumbent, anti-Obama wave–but they're still a bunch of hacks. My own Congressional district has been in the Dem column for 10 years now, and I have often mused in the past year about running for the seat–but there is no way I could get the blessing of my local GOP to run for that office. I haven't "put in my time" with the hacks. The only way I could do it is to primary whomever the local GOP gasbags put up for the seat. That requires (a lot of) money, and an organization of true believers who will be willing to put in the thankless hours to work on a campaign.
I just don't know that there are enough tea party people in my area who are going to be willing (or able) to make that kind of commitment. Sigh..for right now, I guess I vote for the hacks, hope for the best in redistricting nationally, and pray that the RINOs can at least stand up to Obama long enough for Sarah to get elected in '12.
It was alleged that the Ft. Hood murderer (Hasan) had been appointed to work on the presidential transition team, ironically for the Homeland Security Task force. If so, no wonder why MaoBama was trying to sweep this under the rug and refused to call him a terrorist.
Does a tree falling in the forest when no one is around make any noise? It really doesn't matter what we think–perception is everything. Take back the media. Protest the media. Get a sign and stand next to the building. Until we can get our message out to the independent voters, we are doomed. Don't fall for the third party trick. Remember Perot.
We should vote out all representatives and senators up for re-election in 2010 and continue to do so in every election thereafter.
For those who say that would be bad, we need continuity. I say hog wash look what continuity has gotten us.
We need to create our own lobby group. It could be the tea party. But we have to build it fast. Unfortunately, this is the only way that the "people" will get any representation.
right on, sister!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!__We have made a huge leap in a short time and ARE a force to be reckoned with!__Thank God and yes, I said the word GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Damn, Stephen Green, that was kinda harsh, wannit, Dawg?
Well, umm, on second thought, no.
This is a terrific read, very entertaining and loaded with truth. The IP has to go.
Right on!
You've got that right, Thinking Man. If the Soros/ACORN/Alinsky communitards could bum-rush the Clintonites from the DNC in 2005, certainly constitutional conservatives can root out the Lindsey Grahams, George Voinobitches and David Brookses of the world. And it's not like we're going to burn them at the stake; THEY JUST DON'T GET TO RUN THE PARTY. What an awful fate.
Wait, wha?
Conservatives outnumber leftists 2 to 1, and the "moderates" are peeing in their pants at the sight of what Obama wants to do. So the numbers are on our side. But there are 50-52 hard-core Marxists in the Senate and a good 175 in the House – and why? Because the other side has a lot more ruthlessness, determination, courage and conviction than our people do. They're willing to do whatever it takes to win, and we're not. Part of that is because for a leftist, achieving political power over one's fellow man is like the culmination of a wet dream while for a constitutional conservative it brings on a slight pang of nausea. But recruiting quality people from the conservative movement is going to get a lot easier, because when the Democrats destroy the private economy most conservatives prefer to populate they'll have no place else to go but into the leftist rice bowl.
Well, that's how CA got Schwarzenegger…we voted for a man who wasn't what he said.
GREAT video!!
How about step #3….kill all the lawyers…..
Nah, "kill all the lawyers" would only take out about half the Senate and 1/3 of House of Reps.
Can anyone answer this question or direct me to factual information regarding it;
I recently heard that in some elections, if a voter leaves an area blank, not voting for either candidate – then the vote is counted for the incumbent.
It seems I heard this in the context of speaking about Pelosi and San Francisco. As in either it was something that had passed, she was trying to pass, or similiar? The discussion was about how these people keep their seats amid such low approval ratings. Is this something anyone is familiar with?
Rumors fly and I did do some research to see if I could locate this, but was unable to come up with anything. Anyone have input on this?
Wwith all due respect my fellow patriotic citizens on this thead, it is clear the some of you do not appreciate the magnatude of what is happening here. The Tea Party Movement is to quote Time's man of the year, "unpresidented". Let me try and put this in perspective no New Black Panther Party, ACORN, or SEIU member will remain on his feet very long trying intimidate people in front of my local voteing site, I'll guarentee many others feel the same way. No sir the enthusasium and motivation in this movement would make Saul Alinsky proud. The republicans are marching to the Tea Party beat, look at Rasmussen man. In a three-way Generic Ballot test, the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds Democrats attracting 36% of the vote. The Tea Party candidate picks up 23%, and Republicans finish third at 18%. Another 22% are undecided.
It may still be Wonder bread, but will be made with a different receipe…
Now that our elected jerks are going to pass this abomination, how do we get rid of the whole mess after it's passed? Once we do that, then we can throw them all UNDER the jail.
I've never been as concerned about our conutry as am I today. My business has been decimated by this recession so I may not have much perspective. I truly believe that we are heading for a cliff and if we do not change course we may not survive this. The GOP is probably our only hope and we'd better pray that the Tea Pary movement doesn't split the vote. But the GOP better wake up. The discussion needs to be about ideology and political philosophy, not politics. If this Congress has an open field until 2012, the 2nd amendment may prove to be the last firewall between us and the abyss.

At Linked In's new Centrists group, we believe that building bridges and reaching consensus is not only possible, but essential, in our current political climate. The extremists get the headlines. But most Americans want to work together for results, not stand on the fringes screaming at one another.
If you agree, please consider joining our new group. Provocative and fascinating, but cordial and respectful discussions. No ranters and ravers, script bots, or clandestine political operatives allowed.
Contact me at Linked In for an invitation.
Thank you.

Why has Mr. Obama spent over $1.5M paid to Perkins Coie Law Firm to keep his original birth certificate, college transcripts, passport and other records hidden from public view?
Why was his first order of business after the inauguration to sign an executive order ensuring these records are remain unseen?

I like the idea that we throw them all out, every last incumbent in Washington, DC regardless of party or lefty or righty. They ALL need to go and we need to start over again with people who understand that We The People put them in DC to work FOR us, their employers. The current crop of slugs seems to think it's our job to work for them.
VOTE THEM ALL OUT ASAP!
In order to ' clean out "DC youre looking at a ten to twelve year cycle due to new members being corrupted / co- opted. The plan of a clean out over the next four years is a great challenge due to the motivation factor of voters. The only way to speed the process is to target voters who regualry vote democrat, and challenge them on whether or or not they want to be associated with radicals / criminals , same process used in the town halls. Same needs to be done with the rich donors and companies that provide cash to these leftists. Make the average joe citizen defend the democratic party, they wont do it and dont want to be seen as radicals. Same for the donors, if publicly pushed about their support of radical / criminal groups or politicians they will fold.

Talk is cheap. We have to get on with the work of getting better candidates through the primaries, in one state after another, so that we aren't all left with a Hobson's choice again in November. We need to get out there and aggressively raise money for good candidates, and do the hard volunteer work to turn out the voters for them.
The Illinois primary is Feb 2. I'll be moderating a panel at the Feb 4-6 National Tea Party Convention in Nashville about "lessons learned" – with Tea Party folks, candidates, and political campaign experts. It's a reality check about the work ahead. Enthusiasm alone won't make it happen. We have to get organized and focus on victory rather than protest rallies. See you in Nashville. http://www.SurgeUSA.org

That's funny. In 1966, my family lived just outside the Beltway. I remember my father (God rest his soul) advocating walling DC up and bombing it way back then. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
