The American Automobile: Target of Climatism
by Steve Goreham
Environmental groups have launched a new effort, the Safe Climate Campaign, to radically transform the American automobile and fight climate change. Nathan Wilcox, global warming director at Environment America, states: “Americans want cars that go farther on a gallon of gas. They want our country to use less oil. They want our politicians doing more to address the problem of global warming, not less.” But the proposals are so extreme that the mini-van so loved by Soccer Moms may become an endangered species.
To kick off the campaign, nineteen environmental organizations, including Greenpeace, the National Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club, and the Union of Concerned Scientists, sent a letter on September 9 to President Obama calling for a Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standard of 60 miles-per-gallon (mpg). The memo also advocates a global warming tailpipe pollution standard of 143 grams-per-mile, both to be implemented by model year 2025. The memo states: “Setting strong global warming pollution and fuel efficiency standards for new cars and trucks is a key opportunity to put America on the right path.”
If adopted, these proposals will require that the average vehicle sold meet the standards or manufacturers pay a per-vehicle fine. Consumers will be forced to buy small high-mileage cars, primarily electric and hybrid, and forgo large vehicles based on the internal combustion engine, such as today’s mini-vans. Such emissions standards could significantly raise the price of our cars. Europe recently enacted similar emissions standards that are projected to boost prices by more than $8,000 per vehicle.

Congress is now an advocate of electric cars. The Promoting Electric Vehicles Act of 2010 (S. 3495), was introduced in the Senate in June. If passed, the act will direct state regulatory agencies and electric utilities to plan for electric vehicles and to deploy electric vehicle charging stations. The bill includes a “Targeted Plug-in Electric Drive Vehicle Deployment Communities Program,” authorizing the Secretary of Energy to grant $500 million in taxpayer money to each of up to 15 cities to “fund projects in the deployment community.” The goal is to achieve deployment of 700,000 plug-in vehicles at an estimated cost of $4 billion. A large share of these funds will be funneled to General Motors, majority-owned by the U.S. government. These subsidies will add to the $2.7 billion in electric car grants already provided by the 2009 Recovery Act.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is aggressively moving to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. On April 1, the EPA established a new 35.5 mpg CAFE standard and a vehicle emissions standard of 250 grams per mile, effective for automobile model year 2016. The EPA has also proposed new “window stickers” with an “A+” through “D” grade based on fuel economy and emissions. Consumers may soon be told that plug-in electric vehicles rate an “A,” while SUVs get a “B” or lower. In the eyes of the EPA and climate alarmists, safety, roominess, driving range, acceleration, carrying capacity, and price/performance rate a lower grade than solving the climate crisis.
The danger is not that the government provides incentives to develop an electric vehicle industry, but that these policies become a coercive effort to force consumer purchases. Hybrid vehicles now account for only about 3% of U.S. annual vehicle sales and plug-in electric car sales are negligible. According to a 2010 National Academy of Sciences report, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) with a 40-mile battery range will cost $14,000-18,000 more than a conventional car. Even with battery improvements, the PHEV will still cost $10,000 more by 2030. As an example, the recently announced sub-compact Chevrolet Volt has a 40-mile battery range and is priced at an expensive $41,000. Charging times are eight hours from a 120-volt electrical outlet, or a still-inconvenient three hours if a buyer purchases a 240-volt charging station for $2,000-$5,000. Coercive standards proposed by the Safe Climate Campaign will impose life-style changes and high costs on American citizens.
During the June Senate hearings on S.3495, “energy independence” or “reducing our dependence on foreign oil” were the often-stated reasons why we must adopt electric cars. Vehicles account for more than 70% of the seven billion barrels of annual U.S. oil consumption, 57% of which was imported in 2008. Advocates urge adoption of electric cars to reduce imports from nations such as Saudi Arabia, Libya, and Venezuela.
But we have a more practical solution available than forcing electric cars on Americans. By expanding imports from friendly nations, such as Canada (currently our largest oil partner), Mexico, and Brazil, and boosting domestic oil production, we can reduce our dependency on rogue nations. The U.S. Geological Survey estimates 10.4 billion barrels of oil are available from our Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), enough to replace imports from Saudi Arabia for 20 years. The continental U.S. also has 163 billion barrels of unproven reserves, but 85% of this total is currently in areas where exploration and drilling are banned. Yes, the recent BP oil blowout in the Gulf of Mexico was a tragedy. But the BP oil blowout in 2010, the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, and the Santa Barbara blow-out in 1969 add up to only three major spills in the last 50 years. Improved safeguards should be able to lower the chance of such spills.
The letter to President Obama closes with the phrase: “With these standards you can ensure we take this opportunity on the path to ending our dependence on oil.” Note that it says “dependence on oil,” not “foreign oil.” A visit to the websites of environmental groups finds opposition to any efforts to grow U.S. oil production. They favor a ban on offshore drilling, and oppose drilling in ANWR, expansion of drilling in the continental United States, imports from Canadian oil sands, and construction of new oil pipelines and refineries. Indeed, these organizations also oppose the use of coal- and gas-fired electrical power plants. Energy independence is the often-stated reason for the electric car push, but the real reason is that our gasoline-burning cars are blamed for global warming.
Climatism, the belief that man-made greenhouse gases are destroying Earth’s climate, is the ideology behind the attack on our cars. Earth’s surface temperature has warmed only about one degree in the last 100 years, but climate alarmists tell us that this warming is “unprecedented.” They demand that we switch to fluorescent lights, wind- and solar-generated electricity, vegetarian diets, and now electric cars.
Yet, geologists tell us that Chicago and New York City were covered by an ice sheet only 15,000 years ago. The Earth’s surface temperature warmed 10 to 20 degrees as the ice melted, providing the warm interglacial period we now enjoy. None of the post-ice age warm-up was due to emissions from SUVs, but alarmists are certain that the much smaller warming of the last 30 years is man-made. As a result, the American automobile is the target of Climatism.

Gee, why not allow our energy companies to develop our energy sources?
Unattainable CAFE standards and unneeded green regulations make all cars much more expensive than they need be and are a huge drag on our economy…
Like the old expression suggests, "as GM goes, so goes the American economy"….
How's that workin' out for y'all…?
The OVolt is an unmitigated flop.. further depressing the outlook for GM…
We should all ride unicorns. They are as real as global warming.
Nevermind that they require car seats that take up a substantial amount of space for every child under a certain age and weight. There is no way my sister could transport her three sons in one of those electric death cans. I'm not sure my husband and I would be able to take along our one son.
Nevermind that we have a president who publically stated that he wants to "necessarily" bankrupt the coal industry. Electric cars don't run without electricity and our nation's power grid is already overstressed. Since we can't build nuke plants, where will all that extra power come from?
I don't think they've thought this through unless they are completely bent on destroying our freedom to move about. Perhaps I should start looking over those fine pieces of Amish cart horse flesh rather than scoping out a new car?
It's not unattainable. Ford in the U.K. sells cars on par with our car prices and some of them get twice our mileage. The only reason they're not sold here is that unlike the U.K. the U.S. government doesn't demand higher mileage vehicles.
Note to radical environmental groups. AGW has been proven a fraud. Go sell you garbage elsewhere.
no, i do not want to pollute, but what is wrong with cheaper gas, due to domestic oil exploration, drilling, and refining? gas would be lower cost, if we were not held hostage to the likes of hugo chavez, or radical muslim extremists. sure a electric car would be fine, but here in the midwest we get electricity from coal. also why can't we build a nuclear power plant, like they have in iran and north korea? no, they want us to go back to the stone age, what a joke.
What a load of crap.
USAUSAUSA
Americans (most) like larger vehicles for work, families, camping, or just more comfortable.
We don't want to be forced by the Statists, to chose between the SmartCar or a VOLT…
I will probably never buy a Union made U.S. car.
I will never ever buy a car from government motors.
Washington actually wants $5+/gal gas to curb driving, and to force car makers slowly but surely into corporations ran by government, much like they have done elsewhere with banking, food, etc.
Republicans, its time you abandon your statist ways, and unite for liberty.
maybe gooberment motors could develop a car that runs on "crap". Congress and the administration could fuel it for years….
This whole "energy thing" is a suicide mission by the left.
These frauds are not concerned with the environment. Consistently, they show it is about power and money. Consider Al Gore burns more fossil fuel of 5 families for his residence and flies all around the globe on his private jet–he's a hypocrite. Consider Phil Jones, (Climate-gate) the director of the CRU, where between 2000 and 2006 Mr. Jones was the recipient (or co-recipient) of some $19 million worth of research grants, a sixfold increase over what he'd been awarded in the 1990s. We have obama's budget adviser Franklin Raines who owns a key carbon-emissions patent he developed as CEO of the government-sponsored mortgage giant Fannie Mae. All of this stinks as a big fat money grab by the power elite. They are trying to take your money.
Maybe in this case the environmental wackos are just plain lunatics……
I might have to find some cheap labor to peddle me around in a Rickshaw.
I wonder if the police would be bothered by my Rickshaw traveling down the highway?
They really don't like vehicles that can't be taxed, and work hard as the states agent in collecting said tax.
With a significant sacrifice to occupant safety.
One of the main ways to get the fuel mileage is by making the vehicles lighter but there is a side effect called physics, for every pound of weight lost to make the vehicle more efficient, the variations and severity of injuries and the likelihood of a fatality increase significantly.

It might be a good idea to look for an old diesel engine truck and I mean old. Just like the doomsday movies. Make no mistake they are coming after us. Buy farm equipment and study up.
"unlike the U.K. the U.S. government doesn't demand"
Precisely. This is (or claims to be) a FREE country- which means that the Government can't "demand" that I buy a pathetic little clown car.
Perhaps you could pedal a Flintstone mobile.
Ahh the greenies…what a bunch of jokes…do as they say not as they do….these dunbasses would'nt last a day in the woods alone…….we ought to have a little greenie island for them to starve to death on
TO HELL WITH ELECTRIC…………..DRILL BABY DRILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
.
Why not give each of these Marxist a suicide clown car of their own? See how long they live. Provide free burial with each suicide clown car.
I wonder do electric suicide clown cars run on ground oiled up pelicans?
Imagine a man, sitting on the branch of a tree, noose looped around his neck, rope going through an eyelet on the branch above, then through an eyelet on the trunk of the tree, and finally tied to the trigger of a shotgun pointing at the man, with its stock bolted to the trunk. He is proceeding to saw through the branch he is sitting on, the blade betwixt he and the trunk of the tree.
Now imagine that the man is wearing a shirt with "American Industry" printed on it, "Environmentalist Agenda" on the blade of the saw, and "Reality" along the barrel of the shotgun.
Discuss.
When we run the last of the progressive morons out of DC, I'm going to get me a Hemi Challenger and do donut-burnouts all day to celebrate, lol
Indy
Obama wants us all in a YUGO…
So when hit by the turnip truck, no health care will be necessary,
just the embalming and ride to boot hill..
Not entirely true. Most of the cars which get higher milage have significantly less weight. I would like to see a comparison of the safety standards in the UK to see what was sacrificed to get the Higher milage it was either weight and safety or emisions or could be both
That's assuming you can get the Yugo to run.
Lets all get Smart cars.
<sarc> +Hanzo+
If this great country was allowed to develop our own energy, there would NOT be this annoying trend torward small unsafe autos…
The choice to buy a small death trap(ObamaClownCar) or a safe comfortable pickup truck, would be up to the indivdual consumer…
You're for choice, right?
True. but for a long time we didn't have the choice. i loved my old s-10 blazer, but it killed me on gas. and when I looked for a more fuel efficient car only toyota and honda offered models that got decent mileage. and I totally want to buy made in the usa.
These people are even worse wnen they get more power. Their thinking costs us Billions of dollars.
There is one sure way to fight
global warmingclimate changeglobal climate disruption: Toss every socialist Democrat out of Washington. Just think how much hot gas we'd get rid of…Yep. But i don't think we have enough oil in our borders to supply all the fuel we need, and even if we did my guess is that the price for gas would go up a lot. when gas was $4 in california, i didn't do as much driving, and I bet a lot of people regretted owning trucks then too.
Most Hondas, Toyotas etc sold here ARE made in the USA. And by skilled workers, too, not UAW goldbricks.
All my cars are gas guzzlers and I am proud of it! Americans have the right to spend their money the way they want, and the right to drive what they want. Screw these leftists!
Johnny, you're in the positive for these comments. Quick, about face!! Long time no see, John.
+Hanzo+
Actually we do. Between the US and Canada we could be 100% independent—IF the price gets up to about $90/bbl and stays there, the price point at which oil shales become economically viable.
Makes you wonder why our government is giving billions of our dollars to Brazil and Mexico to drill for oil offshore so they can sell it to us! God I can't wait until November so we can get as many of these leftists out of office as we can and start working on 2012!
What good will an electric car do you, when your stuck in rush hour traffic in Phoenix AZ, in the middle of July?
Or, stuck in rush hour traffic in Detroit Michigan, in the middle of January. It's real easy to tell us what to do when your driven to work everyday in a limo paid for by US taxpayers.
Excellent.
Save the planet's economy! Kill an environmentalist!
Same reason they give our tax dollars to China. They as a collection of ELITES are really STUPID.
Can I have a Pink one please Sir?
It's not about climate, it is about destroying this country and sending the jobs to other nations. Brazil is booming, part of that boom is building US branded cars and parts….go figure
The same China that builds a coal fired electrical plant every week and we build windmills!
They're available in any color you can imagine, ma'am.
bullcrap ! I want a car with at least 450 HP . THAT GETS 8 MILES TO A GALLON . with a carb, that smells like raw gasoline when your behind it . so they all choke om my exhaust fumes ,
More environmental nonsense. Junk science dictates our society because the typical American has been deliberately "dumbed down" and mislead. Wake up America! Your liberties are being taken away by those disguised as environmental saviors. They are frauds. Want alternative energy? Go nuclear for our major land based needs. BUT you don't see it because it's a game. Wind turbines and solar? Just about useless as far as making a dent in our energy needs. Junk science needs to be considered a crime. Ultimately it hurts us all…
Great post. You are absolutely correct…
And does nothing to actually "help" the environment. It's bull.
And NUKE BABY NUKE!
It's time to defund the Department of Energy and to dump CAFE standards. If people want "green" cars, let them buy them.
Not seen any lately…
The japs and koreans turned them into Hyunadis and Hondas..
USAUSA
Putting to work NatGas and more nukes would take alot of pressure off the oil supply and demand…..
This is a no-brainer to get our own…
Only those with no brains fail to see it….(Congress)
"Climatism" is *not* the real reason for the environmentalist attack on the american automobile, or for that matter, on american energy sector (and hence the entire american economy). It is just an excuse. The real reson, often openly stated by these same environmental groups and individuals such as Van Jones. And it is twofold: (1) 'de-develop' america (2) 'Redistribute' america's wealth to other 'less fortunate' countries and 'redistribute' the american wealth to 'less fortunate' people within america. In essence, the entire 'green movement' is but a subterfuge that the Left was forced to adopt in lieu of openly communist ideas it promulgated before Kruschev exposed the diabolical monstrosities of Stalin in late fifties. (sixties saw the birth of environmentalism). The attack on automobile is manifold. (1) Make automobiles so expensive that not everyone can afford it (2) "Make fuel prices skyrocket" so its use will be limited The reason? Look at the west. After the railroads had done its wonder and reached a plateau, automobile came along and freed an individual to customized mobility. That event (along with trucking transportation) increased the productivity and prosperity of an individual beyond any ever dreamt of. It is this freeness of indivudal which contributes towards phenomenon productivity of the western coutnries, and america specifically, that the Left has been attacking. And this electric car boondoogle is not new. It has been around at least as long as the internal combustion engine. The Left has been trying to sell that white elephant to the West ever since it realized the freeing potential of the internal combustion engine.
Naturally, Left is an enemy of everything that sets an individual free. They would rather have you travel in hoards in trains and buses, if at all, and preferably on bicycles. Obama's Transportation Department has vowed to spend as much money on bike paths as it does on roads and highways. Can you imagine the entire population of america on bikes rather than behind the wheels of automobiles? That's what the Left would rather see. And why do they want to cut down america to size? America is the freest and most prosperous capitalist society, and has been, as such, the greatest impediment in the Left's global march in enslaving everybody and their cousins. Often explicity, and overtly, and actively, america has fought the Left. (Causing the demise of Soviet Union for example). But just being the shining example of what freedom of individuals can accomplish, it has been a thorn in the eyes of the Left. SO both strategically and psychologically, they MUST destroy america. That is the reason for this concerted effort of the Left on everything that makes america strong—the Constitution, the military, the free-market economy, the education system, the free and unbiased press, the connection of a mainstream american with his god and his church, the rugged individualism, the fiercely independant nature of an average american, his pride in his country, his patriotism, his love for his country, and his Constitution … his ability to produce goods and services, his ability to protect entire globe from the menace of the twin ideologies of Leftism and Islam …. every single thing that makes america strong is under attack, and extremely intensely under Obama/Pelosi/Reid/Kagan cabal.
Just another closet energy bill from the Department of Idiocy bent on stifling the economy.
It's war on all fronts.
another govt lie…I can if it in a week…convert all cars and trucks to CNG. Our govt won't let car companies do it. In mexico conversion cost about $300. Iran and Iraq has been doing it for years so they can sell us the gas. US law says you can't covert until your engine has 100K miles on it. CNG is abundant in the US…we have more than anyone…it's on average $1.25 per gallon equivlant…it's even easy to have a pump at home.
We have all the technology to lead the world with US auto production on this project right here at home…so why aren't we doing it? You should look up "who killed the electric car" it will make you sick.
Nathan Wilcox, global warming director at Environment America, states: “Americans want cars that go farther on a gallon of gas. They want our country to use less oil…."
Actually I want as many of the enviro-weenies to buy as many of those green cars as possible so it will free up more fuel for my personal use.
New bumper-sticker-
"Save the planet, harpoon an Environmentalist".
Also the EPA.
The government wants to control the people, so it determines which cars can be bought. And the environmentalists are happy to ride into tyranny.
Neither of them is going to be happy until everybody is driving a stupid SmartCar, which looks like a golf cart. Meanwhile, the government wants cars to be lighter and lighter. Many, many people have been injured or killed because the cars are too light. Let people buy whatever they want. The bigger, the better.
After reading this, I think I'll take the Mustang out for a spirited drive to nowhere and increase the size of my carbon footprint just to piss these little environazis off!! Al "manbearpig" Gore and the rest of the marxist horde can bite me.
There's no such thing as perpetual motion and the same is true for cars. Switch every automobile, truck, train and air plane to electric and you may save the earth from tail pipe emissions, but you will replace it with an even more deadly toxic soup that will kill us all. Next to atom bombs, batteries are just about the most toxic thing that humans produce, not to mention the massive amounts of energy required to produce them and the vehicles they would be used in. Just imagine all the factories, mining metals, plastics (petroleum) workers, related ifrastructure. It takes a lot to produce new cars……If you really want to go green, buy a used car and drive it forever. It is far more green to maintain a used car than it is to produce new ones even when factoring in the better fuel economy of the new one. Do the planet a favor. Pull your dads old 60's pickup out of the garage and enjoy driving something that is made in America by proud, hardworking Americans.
Forget about high fuel prices. Combine Cap and Trade with electric cars and we'll all be paying 50 bucks a day to charge our vehicles so we can drive to work the next morning. Never mind, they have that figured out too. There won't be any jobs, just govt checks in the mail to keep us all from starving.
I want a nuclear car!.
I want a nuclear car! get on it engineers!
President Obama, Rep. Hall, Sen. Gillenbrand, Sen. Schumer:
Washington, DC
May 31, 2009
Dear Sir/Madam:
Five months ago I sent a short letter with a simple suggestion. I made it simple because politicians are like small children; and require instructions in small portions so it may be understood. The main thrust of my letter was (and no longer is because the opportunity to do what I suggested is gone); “You must maintain the domestic auto industry, but you must do it so that what comes out the other end sells a product Americans want to buy, makes a profit, and is competitive in the marketplace.”
After five months what has the federal government accomplished? As of June 1, 2009 the once great General Motors will declare bankruptcy. I have to tell you I am impressed with your combined ability to take a company that was on the cusp of being a serious competitor in the domestic market, and by your actions have turned it into a steaming pile of horse manure. Bravo.
As it stands now, with our GDP continuing to shrink, and unemployment continuing to rise purchasing a new automobile is not high on the list of most Americans now. Americans are rationally deciding to maintain their present vehicle because they do not want to face the double whammy of unemployment, and a car payment.
When all of this is over – how do you expect a company to survive if it has been crippled by government largess and control while it’s competitors have had the freedom of innovation? They will crush it. Business is war with dollars, and the citizens of this great country benefit because the war has a great side benefit; an ever increasing standard of living via higher quality at lower cost. I get the feeling someone up there is going for the inflation cheat to hide all of this stupidity. All I can say is the few times I cheated in life – I only ended up hurting myself. In the past; Nixon made the economic bed then Carter wet himself in it on national television in a cardigan sweater, and then Reagan changed his diaper, and sent him back to the peanut farm; I suspect some of this parenting is on its way to some of your ilk.
As a small businessman making a mistake with a customer is an opportunity to work twice as hard to make it right. Toward that end, one final suggestion. Stop doing what your doing, say you are sorry for being so colossally stupid, forgive the loans(in any case, they will never get repaid if the federal government is running the company forcing it to build cars people do not want to buy); it is not working and making the situation worse all the while GM’s competitors are eating their lunch while the taxpayer, bond holders, and the union workers, are getting stabbed in the back with a knife sharpened by the federal government. I’d thought the day had past when a little intellectual elite in some far distant capitol can presume to plan my life for me, then I could plan for myself – I guess I was wrong. Not only are they trying to plan my life they think they can run car companies! I’ll say it one more time for the cheap seats “Did the Soviet Union ever export a car?”
Respectfully,
Joe Doakes
the radius on those donuts is gonna be huuuuuuuuge.
The Chinese build our Solar Panels too.
Well that is certainly bad news.
What is CNG?
Oh Goody Gum Drops now I can fly over DC and have a big pooper dropping a load all over the Progressive Idiot Elites. Bet when they see my Unicorn they all look up and open their mouths!
peel out at every opportunity just to get a little more burn in.
GM doesn't know how to build a car. last week I had the steering rack separate from the frame on my pontiac while merging onto a highway. No, I didn't hit anything, the piece of junk literally fell apart under normal driving conditions. There is no way I will ever under any condition buy another GM or UAW vehicle after nearly losing the lives of my wife and myself. Oh and I am far from the only person to have that problem with the pontiacs, yet no recall. Must be nice to be in bed with the government.
Not gumdrops, ma'am. Unicorns sh!t Skittles. lol.
They want us walking riding a bike, or riding a horse… In other words back th the 19th century!! What part of killing America don't people understand?? Jeese!!
One point that I have not seen brought up in discussions about electric vs. gas autos is tax. Tax on gas is a major source of government funding. When gas efficient cars started having an impact on gas sales, California freaked out. Does anyone remember the plan to start taxing miles driven using GPS? Governments will inevitably be levying high taxes on electricity. This, by itself is going to drive the price of power through the roof. And what about places like the Peoples Republic of California which have a progressive pay schedule? Does a $1000/month utility bill sound like a good idea, or a way for the greenies to force their ultimate goal of "de-industrializing" the world? We need to fight this nonsenes with everything we have and not fall prey to the misleading rhetoric.
YEAH!!!!!
Wind turbines are as about as useful as tits on a boar…
Why not step it up a notch and get a Dodge Viper. Just roar that v10 and burn some tires right in front of the eco-idiots or do donuts around a Prius.
Be very very quite, Im hunting Environmentalist. Hehehe
SO WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT????????????? THIS MUST, MUST BE STOPPED!!!!!!
Their ideology is NOT APG, it is Communism. All their pagan religious claptrap is simply propaganda for the young and the fools. They seek the destruction of the USA followed by their own totalitarian despotic rule of what remains. Our choice is brutally simple. Them or us. They have to go.
People!! stop bloviating and DO somthing about it!!!! GOOD GRIEF? BLA,BLA,BLA???
Oh, I'm around, I typically glance at most the articles, and haven't been commenting as much.
I'm looking forward to a historic election this November (note: as I have said a zillion times, it really won't accomplish much), however, it will be a treat to watch Chris Matthews, Rachel, and Obie crying on MSNBC.
Pro Tip: War is the Health of the State
Anti War
Pro Guns
Anti Washington
Pro Free Markets
Exactly! Let the market decide what people want, and for car companies to duke it out by being innovative and efficient.
I just had to check, your first post was 53 weeks ago.
12,000+ comments and over a year worth of bitching about Queen Pelosi, Zero, Reid, … lol
Even if November doesn't change much of the state control over us serfs and common folk, it will be enjoyable to watch the historic election results and atleast give one the feeling of satisfaction as some of these people get fired.
Every time I see a SmarCar, all I can think of is "if that gets into a car crash, everyone on board that thing is going to die." A little morbid, sure, but that's physics for ya.
Oh, in addition, when I see someone drive one of those, the people inside look like everyone who was driving a hybrid in that one South Park episode, or completely miserable that they're driving such a fugly thing.
Thanks for reminding me to smile!
the higher they raise the CAFE standard, the longer we will hold onto our roomy V8 SUVs that get 14mpg. and if they try to take mine away, mr glock will persuade them otherwise.
Thank goodness that some are made in europe, but better yet, I heard recently that there are some being made here in the good old USA.
My first comment, was on the first thread Breitbart had, on day one of Big Government. I have enjoyed being here. I was thinking a similar thought about a week ago. Once this election sets the stage for 2012, whatever will we have to converse about?
In all honesty, what we have done here, for the past year, is exactly the same thing that the left had done for eight years at the Huffington Post, and the Daily Kooks. Breitbart is to be commended, for at least trying to bring about a balance in the blogosphere. Further and beyond that, he is to be commended, for trying to make a difference.
Not quite sure what I should be doing about this at 11:30pm, but hey, rage on
names like Greenpeace and Sierra Club are all you need to know that this is all propaganda and lies from their hidden agenda to destroy the economy of the United States– in their book, if you were born in the United States, live here currently, and exhale carbon dioxide, then you are a scourge on the planet, and should be exterminated…….
Where do these dumbfucks think the electricity will come from for electric cars?
Maybe you should ride ostriches. They would match your head in the sand attitude about global warming.
Why can't you build nuke plants?
Where was it proven to be a fraud?
$5 a gallon gas would be a good first step in bringing your gas prices closer to what people outside of the US pay for gas.
Start new underground industry 'soup up' your engine and add cattle guard.
Better still, abolish the EPA.
The safety may be sacrificed for the occupant of the car as the weight decreases (particularly if your Prius gets smashed into by someone driving a Humvee), but the damage your car does to others also decreases. If the mass of all vehicles was to drop, I'm not sure if safety would be reduced or improved overall.
Read the numbers again, it actually still increases and even if all vehicles that share the road lighten, it doesn't soften the structural integrity of a tree, utility pole, guide rail or cement wall. The lighter materials have also made it much more dangerous in accidents where vehicles tangle with restraining wire medians, or as we call them in Emergency Services, decapitating wire because it will cut through a car and the occupants.
Keep trying, maybe someday you'll wake up and realize you are a lie.
