Mount Vernon Statement: Conservatives Revive The Movement
by Sergio GorYesterday afternoon conservatives gathered on land once owned by George Washington to commit their organizations and members to a renewed set of principals.
Known as the Mount Vernon Statement, the document includes the following:
- It applies the principle of limited government based on the
rule of law to every proposal. - It honors the central place of individual liberty in American
politics and life. - It encourages free enterprise, the individual entrepreneur, and
economic reforms grounded in market solutions. - It supports America’s national interest in advancing freedom
and opposing tyranny in the world and prudently considers what we can and should do to that
end. - It informs conservatism’s firm defense of family, neighborhood,
community, and faith.

Definitely a step in the right direction. The time is right to get back to the Constitution!
Yep, time to return to what the founders laid out.
Women voting. NOT!
Elect Senators with an election. NOT!
Slavery. OK!
Landowners only voting. OK!
Interstate highways and National Parks? Gone!
Air traffic controllers. Gone!
SEC. Gone!
God you people are stupid.
"anon?" "anon?" You don't have a name? You don't have a face?
It's no wonder you don't have a clue.
I recommend reading Michelle Malkin’s “An inconvenient question about the Mount Vernon Statement” before you sign.
http://michellemalkin.com/
The "statement" says nothing concrete. Not sure the hubbub. Until something definite is proposed what's the use of signing such a vague document? Is it just to make people feel good? The Constitution is a flawed document, and until the incorporation doctrine and the commerce clause are fixed nothing will change. A constitutional convention is what is needed. Also, the Declaration as a guide to action is, today, questionable at best, especially with its statement "all men are created equal." Divorced from its limited historical context this statement is completely untenable and remains the genesis of liberalism with all its attendant contradictions and all the horrific results we see today.
JohnK144 said "It's no wonder you don't have a clue."
Really? Really?
Which one of my claims is false? Slavery? Women not having the right to vote?
Or did I miss the part of the Constitution that grants the government the power to tax us and build interstate highways. Or the part that grants the feds the right regulate and control air traffic?
God you people are stupid.
Many founders were opposed to slavery. Even though slavery unfortunately persisted after the revolution, the principles laid down in the country's founding did sow the seeds of slavery's eventual demise. Of course, it would have been better if slavery, an abominable practice originally imported by European settlers, had been ended right away, but it didn't, it took a while. This is an imperfect nation but we got it right within a century, a relatively short period in historical terms. If you want to only focus on the country's mistakes and define it s character in only the most negative possible way, go right ahead. The founders enshrined in law your right to freely spout any nonsense you wish.
"If you want to only focus on the country's mistakes"
No you idiot. I'm simply pointing out the absurdity of this stupid "Mount Vernon Statement".
It's simply red meat to convince the ignorant teabagging rednecks to vote against their own best interest.
Actually, the universal franchise began the decline of the nation as a nation. You see, many people do not have the insight to govern themselves, much less a nation. Coupled with the massive immigration of people with no Western heritage and, therefore, no genetic or philosophical ties to an existing tradition, we are thus witnessing the transformation of the electorate into something marginal and less than enlightened. Something tyrannical and opposed to anything rational and traditional. Also, it would be a good thing if only landowners (or at least net taxpayers) voted. After all, they are the ones paying the bills.
Interesting comments above.
And exactly what is wrong with any of the premises stated above?
Gots to hand it to you there anope…. you do know your facts……..
OK everyone…proof positive….. so lets just dismantle the whole dam thing….
Ah but wait ANON has a way out here… thanks buddy for the hint
All we have to do is NOT…"vote against their own best interest"…. OK there ANON
What is our best interest and which way do you want us to vote now that we know the Constitution is the phoniest document ever created by our FLOUNDERING fathers????… Please tell us
michael says "Actually, the universal franchise began the decline of the nation as a nation. You see, many people do not have the insight to govern themselves, much less a nation."
Good one. Spoken like a true communist. The party knows best. No need to vote on anything. I appreciate your honesty.
I'll say. Wonder what nursery school let out so early.
Party knows best? He never mentioned a party.
None of the things you mentioned in the first post are supported or proposed by the Mt Vernon Statement. Then again I expect facts are not something you care about.
Lower taxes and a government that doesn't bankrupt the nation is against our best interests?
What red meat? This is was a vague and generalized list of ideas.
Many founding fathers were abolitionist. ANON is not smart enough to realize that forming a nation was goal number one, not fighting another war that instant.
This statement is meaningless. Its a watered down list of conservative ideas. It doesn't do anything.
Its a wet noodle flogging a rock. Its a vague and watered down recitation of principles with nothing specific at all. I was very disappointed.
F-off, let's go through some of what your Facist/Progressive buds in the WH are currently up to.
ACORN/SEIU attempting to influence and indulge in fraud? YES!
Attempt takeover of 1/6th of the economy through healthcare?YES!
Nationalisation of Auto and Finance Industry?YES!
Hand over sovereignty to UN under AGW?YES!
New, massive taxes and regulation under Cap&Trade?YES!
Allow illegal immigrants to be counted in the Census in order to gerrymander districts?YES!
I could go on and on, with just this administration in power.
Did the FF's approve of any of these policies?NO!
BTW, asshole, who was on watch when income taxes became permanent?Progressive Democrats?YES
Who started the end of slavery, and passed Civil Rights?Republicans?YES!
The fact that Senators were elected by State Legislatures was evidence of States Rights to have a voice in the Federal Government, in order to prevent a bloated bureaucracy, as we have now under your god, BHO, damn are you STUPID!
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Sorry, had me up to the last bullet. A free people will manage their families, neighborhoods and faith quite well without a political voice, if they are just left to their own pursuits. If conservatives think they are going to make headway on "traditionalist" politics as they tried in the previous administration, we will find ourselves enmeshed in familiar quarrels. Put your crosses down and lets unite on common ground: liberty. If you think that it's god-given and I think it is based on reason, who cares? We can win the day against statists if we find a common theme in Liberty. The Founders did.
The US is not soley to blame for slavery, its amazing how we're the only country that still talks about it ad nauseum. I think there is still an African country which still hasn't ended legal chattel slavery and others have not stopped it in anything but writing.
I do not believe them. As I have warned in the past politicians will soon start to side with public sentiment for re-election. They are just playing along. This is a game to them and WE are the game pieces. This is why countless numbers of us are calling out to all Americans to vote OUT ALL OF THEM. They cannot be trusted, its too late. To me this is like a their going in to a quickie mart holding it up and then before leaving saying Im sorry and leaving the money. fact is they still committed the crime, they are criminals and must be punished. Same goes for politicians, they have been giving the American people the shaft for years, some holding political seats for decades, NOW they are going to get back to the Constitution?! No sorry ladies and gents your all outta here. I implore all of you to ignore moves like these, these people can no longer be trusted while Rome continue to burn. Burn by a fire they started!
My reaction is that it is sad that we have to keep reminding statists in both parties that there is so such thing as a rule of law and that they can't keep railroading people's individual rights. Alas, this will be just another Declaration for the despicable statists in Washington to violate. The only declaration with teeth is the declaration every election that we are going to kick progressives to the curb every time they rear their impudent faces.
There is no common ground between those who want freedom and those who want statism. Attacking Christians is not going to encourage anyone to unite with you either.
I think it was all over when George Washington led troops to put down the "whiskey rebellion"
Hanzo…. when the shooting starts, I'm in your foxhole.
It's all for naught, Joe. Hardcore Christians are absolutely convinced that the signers of the Constitution were the twelve apostles and the first president was Jesus Christ. That is almost how revisionist it is getting on the right. Were most of the founders Christian? Yes, one way or another. Does that mean we were founded as a Christian theocracy? No. Madison, Jefferson, and Adams were quite clear that this nation was founded in FREEDOM. This business about the country being for a moral people is all well and good, but that doesn't mean the government is authorized to "legislate morality" or act in ways that violate individual freedom of conscience.
Get your 'talking points' from olbynut, the supreme jackass racist hater asshat, today, dumbass?
And you can disagree with me all you want, Christians. I have read what appears to be all of your predictable arguments and I am not convinced. Read, "Moral and Remonstrance Against Religious Assessments" by Madison, The Treaty of Tripoli, signed by Adams, and The Virginia Declaration of Rights. But of course that won't stop you from spinning that up is down and down is up because your arguments are driven by faith and emotion and not reason and evidence.
Actually to the early Americans the idea of a woman's vote was redundant. Why would a woman vote different than her husband? Many a divorce still is initiated by the two who are supposed to be one voting different.
Amen.
I totally agree.
Why are my posts being held for moderation? I haven't written anything that would cause that, unless this became some leftist site in the last few minutes?

What a dolt you are. A Constitutional Convention? So we can let every special interest group and Progressive freedom hater try to sh!t on the most perfect, inspired document of governance in Earths history? You are such a moron, as if you could do better than the FF's, you POS. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Please, don't even respond to anon. I know him, he lives right down the street. He had to have his little sister read him "Rules for Radicals". He only remembers two words, "Stupid" and Idiots". If you ignore him he goes away.
I'm still just as befuddled, as before, about the timing and intent of all of this…Posturing and the least, albeit on a good premise. Still a lot to prove other than a collective clap-fest at a CPAC meeting however. Their starting to get the idea, and it's a step in the right direction perhaps. But these kinds of actions aren't what, I for one, would think to be necessarily prudent come time to choose a candidate. There are much better ways to prove your adherence to the founding documents other than signing a completely new document, that holds no real water. We'll see…
Women in the Plymouth Colony already had more rights and freedoms than they had back in England, did everyone know that? There were women business owners in the colony and they had standing in court… both were not allowed back in old England.

We had some good football teams at my High School….
The games back than were mostly played on Sundays… but the Pep rallies were always on Fridays…
Don't remember ever winning any football games on Fridays…. but if you would have been to any of our pep rallies…
I wasn't on the football team…. but I sure would like to believe my screaming and yelling sure pepped up a win or two.
Michell, Americangirl….. the game is going to be played in November…. in the mean time…….
Rah, Rah, Rah……..
Here, here……….Right-on HanzO
We need to see a few specific proposals

(anyone having problems posting and editing this my 5th attempt!)
They leave Anon's posts but I noticed a couple of mine seem to be deleted. How strange is that? I have written nothing inflammatory or hateful nor do I ever use profanity. Very strange.
Ditto. Scoot over a bit… I need room for the scope..
All jokes aside, I really hope we don't have to go down that road. But people like "anon" will force it.
Where did Anon go????
Hanzo?????
It's not all pretty, but you have to start somewhere. It'll get distilled down over time to what matters.

I encourage everyone to go to the link provided by – Americangirl1974 – in her comment.
A good reminder to stay alert to the games (political) people play.
Don't trust until you verify, then spread the word.
Thanks Americangirl.
Thanks for the link
There is a long history of reasons not to believe them.
Well, a sidelong glance in the general area of the right direction.
"God you people are stupid. "
Le sigh. I thought we already went over how lame that was for an ad hominem attack. Do you new trolls not -learn-? At this rate I'm going to have to go back to the troll factory and train the new ones myself just so I can see a creative troll here ONCE!
Did Hanzo scare away a troll? That naughty ninja!
Those who worked to abolish slavery and provide franchise to women looked to the Constitution as their justification. (We are a government of Laws, not Men.)
Because of their experience with an oppressive central government the States gave up some powers (e.g. make treaties with foreign governments or print currencies) in return for a VERY limited set of powers granted to the Federal government.
The House of Representatives was intended to be the voice of the people. The Senators were to be representatives of the STATES to provide direct communication with those States and to insure that the balance between the States and the Federal government was not usurped.
By having TWO representative bodies and NO voice of the states we were destined to move to an unconstrained Federal government. Bad move.
We are now reaping what we sowed.
Maybe you should find another country to live in. My family and millions of other families have lost family members fighting wars to protect our freedom and constitution. I swore an oath a long time ago (as have millions before and after me) to protect America from all enemies foreign or domestic. What you have brought up Sir you will find is where we draw the line in the sand.
The USA, as it has evolved, is divided beyond repair. Politics and governing is like watching a high school football game. DNC is the blue team. RNC is the red team. Games, games, games. To understand how very destructive this absolute wide-spread division is, coupled with "a nation divided", the prevalent corruption by and among the government and the media conglomerates, many now believe the only real "hope" or "change" for their families and communities is in state and county governments. If the weight of the tea party grass roots advocates came down on the side of those governing in the state capitals, they could replace all incumbents with non-incumbents. Do that, and the states will bring an end to this era of huge central government.
I see no mention of the US Constitution . Another bunch of Anti-Constitutional elite just trying to get in on the side of the wave of anti- government citizens ,
Women not voting, everyone in favor say aye. AYE!
Slavery, AYE!
Close airtraffic control, AYE!
SEC? Does that exist? Hmmmm.
Everybody in favor of closing the SEC. AYE!
AYE's have it.
Flowery legalese that means nothing. All lawyers know is WORDS. If a problem can't be solved with
words, they can't solve it. It's all FEEL GOOD BS. Don't tell me, "well it's a start". No it isn't. It is a smoke-
screen. If you are so gullible as to buy into it, I'm sorry for you. You must be quite desperate. I WILL NOT
support any Congressmen or women who sign this piece of as$-wipe. #1. It is meaningless tripe……….
#2. They will not honor their word. Nuff Said!
I usually like Michelle, but it is informative that she bashes the authors and not the statement.
Nothing in the statement endorses the views she dislikes (in my mind, appropriately).
The best tactic for an opposition is to have consensus about what it is we disagree with those in power; don't get trapped in infighting before we have defeated the enemy. (Part of that consensus is a list of principles in opposition to theirs.)
A lot of our founders we less than perfect citizens (see Adams, Sam) but what they collectively created has stood the test of time.
It's probably filter software accidentally blocking your posts. I've had comments blocked from threads altogether, but it's usually for profanity, hateful and inflammatory rhetoric.
You know me. ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
If this is conservative why does it preach open borders, amnesty and tolerance of Islam/Sharia law? This is a progressive tool and those that signed it are tools as well.
Try to post something with context or cogency, please Floyd?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Well, first off, who in the hell are you to tell us what we think of the FF's? Who ever compared the FF's to the 12 Apostles or GW to Jesus? That is , in and of itself, one of the most ASININE statements ever posted here,EVAH!I've never seen anyone post a comment that stated they were in favor of a Christian Theocracy, are you related to mikatrolla?Just who is trying to convince you of anything, like anyone gives a crap what you think.
If this isn't a Nation founded on Christian morals, values and principles, why does the Declaration of Independence state that our Rights are God-given?Jester, yes.Reason, not hardly.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
That's right! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Hanzo, my reaction is the same as yours – the 12 Apostles? really? So now it's just throw anything out there to see if it sticks?
We all know what the GOP means to us, nothing. The DNC, even less. That being said, it's interesting to note all the trolls who take the occasion to trash the TPM, the Constitution or Conservatives in general. As if we're going to obediently fall in lockstep with the RNC now. All true TPM members are too smart for that. We're going to watch, wait and see. That they are giving us lip service now is a sign we're making headway.
Obviously we're not going to roll over and get in line as good Republicans. But it's a start. Now we must demand even more. Much, much more. Put the pedal to the metal and let it roar.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Hey Ralph, lock and load, buddy! ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Watch what they do, not what they say. These are a group of Washington insiders, and it’s real important that we all go home fat and happy, quit paying attention and they’ll take real good care of us…don’t you know?
"put your crosses down" if I'm not mistaken you can worship Uncle Ned's Worm Farm in America and call it a religion the Constitution gives you that right. This nation was founded by Christians and Christian principles and beliefs. Thats not gonna change no matter how much gibberish you spout out. Go back to your Worm Farm and let the big kids handle the important stuff.
That's right Stan, both parties want us to go home fat, happy……….. and stupid.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Malkin is 100% correct on this score. Grover Norquist is anti-American, and seeks to put one over on us. The TPM is not supposed to be up for sale to anyone, let alone to Abramoff's partner. Trying googleing Grover Norquist's name, and learn a bit more. He doesn't respect our sovreignty or constitution.
My first post in this thread (it was several paragraphs long) was deleted, as have been others I read the first time this evening. Please don't tell me that Big Government is adopting the same mindset as the HuffPo.. or is it that as Huffington has Soros, Breitbart has Norquist, and we're all just being duped here as well?
"ignorant teabagging rednecks" huh?
Fuck off.
He got one out of me but you are correct.
Do not feed the troll.
Shaddap, dummy. You embarrass yourself with everything you post here.
Agreed. Most of the document is quite good, but the part about civilian trials for unlawful combatants is quite obviously Norquist's contribution, and it's a loser with both the conservative movement and the American people as a whole.
The faster the GOP and the conservative movement can shed Norquist, the better. He's bad news and his message is wrong for us. That he was included in Mt. Vernon and contributed substantially to its product is a shame.
Actually, Fred, there are several African countries that still advocate slavery, and guess what? Most of them are Muslim! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
No, no! I don't want to have to try, as it is, it's not even a challenge! ;^) ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Right on! ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
he/she/it is less than worthless, no need to argue with a fence post. Don't waste time with a moron.
And you are a fool.
Man, go back off in your own jackyard.
If your post was deleted, it will say "deleted by user" or "deleted by site admin", believe me, I know. Are you sure your post wasn't too long?,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Here's the deal. I'll decide what my own best interests are and I won't presume to tell you what yours are. The hallmark of every tyrant and meddlesome busybody is that they think they know what is in everybody else's best interest.
Frightened of tackling Illegal Immigration? No mention of abortion?……..what else is missing?
If this is a statement to be taken by a Conservative seriously, these two issues can't be ignored. Limited terms, and NO lobbyists would be nice to add as well. Can't assume anything, and have to question everything. (THE PEOPLE will be the lobbyists….Congress already gets a paycheck, and marvelous benefits!
I seem to remember several troll posts, in several different threads, all under the name "anon," all closing with the same phrase.
its the only one they are able to come up with
a fleeting thought of a sidelong glance in the general area of the right direction
Humorous cartoon about "job creation" at http://drawfortruth.wordpress.com/category/obama/
You just made my day! ROFL!!!
I agree. The TPM was begun because people had enough of the double speak of both the GOP and the DNC.
The TPM should and will continue to hold feet to the fire.
I havent known of the site doing that.
are you sure it was in this thread?
Something most folks would not even think about or consider, except for you constitutional pros.
It would be great to not forget about your idea, address it and fix it – if that's even possible…
I found un-inspiring. Committees can't write. These guys have been in Washington since the 80s, they've lost or never had touch with the Tea Party Movement and grass roots conservatism. They grew the government at 2x the rate of inflation 2001 – 2006. Why should we trust them now?
Illegal immigration. Do they not understand the meaning of the word illegal, or only when it's convenient? Bah.
so, Anon, there were interstate highways back during the days that the constituition was written? Or air traffic? please explain.
We had to pay back the money we borrowed from the french to finance the war for our freedom. How, pray tell, would you have taxed the electorate other than with distilled liquors? Hell, Thomas Jefferson was the Largest distiller within a 300 mile radius. He paid his tax.
who said I was a christian? I am an ATHEIST who happens to agree with most of the 10 commandments. I just think that organized religion doesn't work for my beliefs. MY moral compass is SOLID. Is yours?
