Big Labor in Massachusetts: Unhappy Days Are Here Again
by Sergio GorEarlier today, two independent reporters in Springfield, Massachusetts attended a Martha Coakley for Senate event. Prior to the candidates arrival, several union members surrounded the two reporters. From one of the reporters, Erich Heyssel:
The mood when we arrived was tense. They seemed to be an unhappy group of people. Dour, even. There were about 100 people outside the Teamster’s Local 404 building and, another 100 or so inside. We started trying to film the gathering and asked some basic questions. We were told we had to leave.
When the reporters approached the headquarters, several individuals tried to intimidate and prevent the reporting of the event. The union officals refused to identiy themselves and kept pushing the journalists, while taunting them to leave. Again, from Mr. Heyssel:
We told them we were reporters. They didn’t seem to care. They just kept saying it was a closed meeting and we had to leave. It was weird. Even their attempts at intimidation were pretty weak. They just didn’t seem to have their hearts in it.
Unfortunately for these union activists, their disorderly and harassing behavior was all captured on film, from two points of view. I work with a bunch of union guys and they're all pretty decent. I told a few of them that their union is dead, practically powerless. And it is, but only because it is tied to a private sector enterprise. Union and management are left to fight over crumbs.
We need to find a way to weaken public sector unions so the pay and benefits fall more into line with the private sector. I know a guy in his 50's that has taken retirement and gets 90% of the average of his last 4 years salary for life and is exempt from State income tax liability! $100,000 per year as long as he lives! If he makes it 20 years that is $2,000,000!!! for not working. Oh, and he got hired back as a part time consultant which more than makes up for the missing 10%. How is that for "Social Security"?
Can we consider voter fraud and intimidation an act of terrorism? That is how the thugs are using those tactics. Waterboard 'em all!

I am a Tea Bag, Conservative, Small Government loving person. Why? Because I was a union member in good standing. The problem was, from where I was standing I sure didn't like what I saw. I used to believe everything my union told me. Why? Because they were my "family" and they took care of me "to the nth degree". There wasn't anything they wouldn't do for me. There were things I wouldn't do for them or expect them to do for me.
The point here is that this isn't about them or us, it is about America. Do you love your Union more than your Country?

Union people in general have been passed by and they refuse to acknowledge it. I at one time was an Iron Worker, belonged to The Steelworkers Union and almost got into the typical union mode of task slacking, union meetings called to kill production time and only working as fast as the contract specified. The union was so strong management had to beg them to do certain jobs and these goons are so typical of the big dummies who can’t make it out there without a contract protecting them.

It's a little cold this morning, I think I will pull up the sheets and comforter and sleep a little longer, so I can get up just to make it to work today, as I'm dad-gum glad to have a job these days (and my heater is not working too good). I did not realize that you were so unable to draw a logical conclusion between the two acts of voter intimidation at the polls as the Democratic KKK and these Martha Coakley supporters display. Some do. There were SEIU INDIVIDUAL members holding "Scott Brown" signs and some among them holding up signs saying something like "SEIU members voting for Brown and NOT being paid $50 bucks to hold up the sign.
There were SEIU members across the street being paid $50 bucks to hold Coakley signs.

Is anybody here with me? If that would have been me, I would have started duct-taping one leg of the sign and criss-crossing it to the other, so as to replicate a "handcuff" of the sign. These two d-bags deserved nothing less. Democracy and freedom of speech apparently only applies if you're a progressive thug.
Reda, you seriously need help. When I first moved to GA, I was a temp and worked for a huge company which I will not name. I was a "girl Friday" who would go from dept. to dept., to fill whatever needs the depts had. This was to say that I could do that because I wasn't a union member. One day I was working the phones regarding upcoming shifts that would be overtime, and it was explained to me that my continued temp contract strictly relied on me providing PROOF that I followed the list of those who signed up for OT. I had to make one call, followed up by three subsequent calls if I could not reach the person on the first. I had a specified amount of minutes and seconds to allow a call-back by the union employee, and if I was 1 second early calling the next person on the rotation list, I would be let go.
Needless to say, a couple of employees said they did not get my voice message on their answering machines at home, and I spent one entire work day explaining to and showing my documentation of my call attempts to these 2 employees who said "she never left me a message about the possible OT," which was a violation of their union contract.
That was the most disgusting I have ever felt, and it wasn't my fault – I was disgusted by these d-bags' assertion at their RIGHT to a job! Who the fark did they think they were? I have to say they made me so glad I was not a permanent employee of that plant and union.
It was thuggery plain and simple. I felt my safety was in question as long as I worked at that place. I'm thankful to God it was only a temp gig.
