Dear Wealthy: You Can Always Donate Extra Money to the Federal Government

I keep reading that wealthy Americans state that they want to be taxed more for the fiscal well-being of the nation:
More than 40 of the nation’s millionaires have joined Patriotic Millionaires for Fiscal Strength to ask President Obama to discontinue the tax breaks established for them during the Bush administration, as Salon reports.
“For the fiscal health of our nation and the well-being of our fellow citizens, we ask that you allow tax cuts on incomes over $1,000,000 to expire at the end of this year as scheduled,” their website states. “We make this request as loyal citizens who now or in the past earned an income of $1,000,000 per year or more.”
To my fellow Americans who want to be taxed more, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is and I have found your opportunity. If you would like to donate to the federal government, all you have to do is mail a check to the US Treasury at this address:
Citizens who wish to make a general donation to the U.S. government may send contributions to a specific account called “Gifts to the United States.” This account was established in 1843 to accept gifts, such as bequests, from individuals wishing to express their patriotism to the United States. Money deposited into this account is for general use by the federal government and can be available for budget needs. These contributions are considered an unconditional gift to the government. Financial gifts can be made by check or money order payable to the United States Treasury and mailed to the address below.

Dear Wealthy Americans (those who have incomes of $1,000,000 or more),
Please stop asking for higher taxes and instead put your money to work for the country by investing in and creating businesses that will in turn hire unemployed Americans who are seeking work to feed, clothe and house their families through their own labor and not from some government dole. The dems in Congress can NEVER get or spend enough money. Even your vast riches will be squandered in a fortnight, and then what? No politician can do better with your money than you can. If you have it to burn, if you have it to risk, risk it on an American worker. That's a cause you can be proud of.
Less money in anyone's hands means less economic activity or growth. The government has indebted the people of America to the tune of $14 trillion or so – at least so far -so why is giving them more money a good idea? However, if some folks want to share their wealth, I don't mind. But crippling the economy further by restricting the money supply and curtailing the hiring of new employees because businesses have to pay higher taxes, is foolish and will result in less growth – if any – and more unemployed. Why is this a good thing?
What will the "Stars" do if they're forced into redistribution of wealth? Will they chip in or will they apply for a waiver??
So when is this stupid twit going to follow with a story about how the government pays its bills?
We already have enough pols dueling to drop our tax bill. It makes them feel all warm inside. So much power.
They go through the same machinations as this bird brain. It won't stop the day of reckoning.

This needs to be broadcast to all corners of the internet. The morons who signed up for this just don't have a grasp on economics at all, one wonders how they came about their millions in the first place.
I say just tax all dems…anyone who voted dem in the last 2 election cycles get 80% income tax rates at all income levels and 100% death tax rates on anything $50 and up. Repubs and independents get 50% tax cuts. At least that way we are arguring about their money instead of ours!
They should go all Huey (The Kingfish) Long, when he proposed something to the effect of, “anybody with 10million plus are forced to surrender 90%, nobody needs any more money than that.” One of his many harebrained ideas.
Those rich enough to donate are the ones that need to help clean up politics.

Wealth isn't income. If Bill Gates's Microsoft stock goes up and makes him $1 billion richer, how much income tax will he pay on that $1 billion? I've heard that Oprah makes more than $200 million a year. How much of that do you think ends up as taxable income on her 1040? The billionaires love an income tax because they know that it will mostly be paid by other people who work and live on income, not by people like themselves who live extravagantly on a tiny fraction of their tax sheltered wealth – whose taxable income is a tiny fraction of a percent of their wealth. How would the billionaires feel about a tax on wealth? Say 95% on all net worth over $20 million.

NPR has experience with fund-raising drives and could be put in charge of organizing periodic campaigns with celebrities and incentives for citizens to make pledges to the U.S. Treasury." Slick " Clinton would make a superb master of ceremonies for such a telethon. Private banking firms could be assigned to manage and trade the pledges on the international market. George Soros could play a key role here as well as elsewhere. I have never been quite sure exactly what rock concerts for social causes do or are intended to accomplish, but now that the U2 singer Bono is on a presidential advisory committee, he and his pals could use their expertise to organize some mega-concerts to help in some way.

there is no law that forces them to take advantage of the "loopholes" they decry, is there? They could always forgo the home mortgage interest deduction, for example (I know, a simplistic example – I'm not rich enough to know what loopholes they take advantage of.)
