Democrats Continue to Loot Food Stamp Fund, Now Helping the SEIU

Medicare is broke. A record number of Americans are on food stamps thanks to all of the economic stimulus being thrown around by the Obama administration and congressional Democrats. So, what do Democrats do when they are finished looting Medicare; they move on to the next and hope no one notices. Not so. The Hill reports the Democrats’ plan for the Child Nutrition Act and the best way to fund Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move“ initiative is noted as:
The House will soon consider an $8 billion child nutrition bill that’s at the center of the first lady’s “Let’s Move” initiative. Before leaving for the summer recess, the Senate passed a smaller version of the legislation that is paid for by trimming the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as food stamps.
The proposed cuts would come on top of a 13.6 percent food stamp reduction in the $26 billion Medicaid and education state funding bill that President Obama signed this week.
Food stamps have made multiple appearances on the fiscal chopping block because Democrats have few other places to turn to offset the cost of legislation.
Obviously, cutting the food stamp program when it’s needed is irresponsible on the part of the Democrats. So, then we must ask, what are the other motivating factors within the Let’s Move program and the Child Nutrition Act and who ultimately benefits?
It’s difficult to ignore the front-group for the SEIU, the Campaign for Quality Services, a major supporter of the Act and states the following on its website:
Children need school meals to get adequate nutrition. As more and more families struggle to put food on the table, strengthening school meal programs – one of the most effective hunger fighting tools in America – is the right thing to do.
We can do better by choosing to:
- Increase the reimbursement rate, which currently stands at $2.57.
- Improve Training for Workers on Food Safety and Nutrition.
- Mandate Fairer Standards for Food Service Workers.
- Broaden the School Breakfast and Summer Programs.
- Expand Enrollment and Eligibility.
- Raise the Bar on Nutrition Standards.
- Increase Accountability
The habitual nature of the Democrats to use children to advance their pro-union agenda is wearing thin with the American people. Voters need to be aware that it was Democrats who killed the successful DC voucher program, looted the food stamp program to fund the teacher bailout, and now want to further loot the food stamp fund to ultimately provide a taxpayer payout to the SEIU.
Finally, Pelosi’s House appears to have to walk the plank–again–and face another difficult vote:
But House liberals are balking now, saying that while they swallowed the food stamp cuts to pay for urgent funding for Medicaid and teachers, they will not vote for more cuts in the child nutrition bill. In a letter sent this week to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), 106 House Democrats urged the speaker to take the House version of the child nutrition bill, which does not slash food stamps, rather than the Senate version.
No doubt, this will be another vote that the Democrats will be held responsible for in November.

Why not spend more and loot any tax payer funded programs. I believe they are of the mind that it is funny money and voter won’t know the difference. We do and they will be asked to fund these programs personally from their own labors after they are removed from office.
Seems like food stamps has become the new "slush fund". What do you think people are going to do when you take away their ability to get free food? Poke the bear, poke the bear.
Next time one of them says "But it's for the *children*!", remind them that unions are not children.
And it's time to get them off the teat, before the sow runs dry.
I guess people on food stamps need to organize, join SEIU, so dues can be scraped off the top of their benefits…

The idea that the federal government is envolved in supporting unions is insanity. Efforts should be to support the American People in their responsiblities in being productive citizens. Citizens creating small business. Not the free loading, blood sucking unions employed by the taxpayer and subsidized to their death.

I'm a Republican by my years of voting, but I'm against cutting foodstamps to the needy at this time. Especially when Obama wants to fund the Unions (his Brown Shirts). He doesn't care about any one group, he will buy off the Unions only to get their muscle and voting power, that is all this is, pure and simple. Everything this Administration does is wicked.

Was there an old post showing how Child Nutrition Act benefits Campaign for Quality Services and thus SEIU? The author alludes to such benefits but fails to give any information on them. Or am I just completely missing it? I'm not saying they aren't benefiting from it, I'm sure they are or they wouldn't be pushing for it. But more information please. Anybody have better links?

Campaign for Quality Services will use the taxpayer funds cut from food stamps to line their pockets. It's all about the unions.
Take note at all the programs where the budget has increased by 100% or more.
These are piggy banks just waiting to make withdraw.
Cut off food stamps because that demographic is already solidly in the centralized govt voting block. When those families don't have enough for food, instead of going to work, they will clamor at the feet of Uncle Sam, prostrating themselves for more crumbs from the table. Then there will be a hew and cry for year-round school so the "children" can eat. With all the nation's children in govt schools pushing pro-centralized govt propaganda and not accurately teaching our history and omitting American Exceptionalism, we have a guaranteed successful future ahead for Unions and Centralized Government proponents. That means American Exceptionalism is no more and how to grovel for your keep becomes the new Manifest Destiny.

The cuts don't kick in until 2014 or maybe 2013. Of course, they will find a way by then to either eliminate the cuts or blame it on the Republicans(who will likely be the majority by then).

It's amazing how corrupt Washington is. They don't even make any attempt to hide the corruption any more. I'm one of the dubious people who don't see it being fixed by an election cycle. When a house becomes to rotted (corrupt), it makes more sense to knock it down and build a new one then to try and repair it !!!

This is also a tried and true prog strategy, FDR used it all the time to win four elections. If the state ( or demographic if you will) is solidly in your win column, you don't waste resources there, you move on and use your campaign ( read patronage dollars here ) dollars where you really need them. Nothing new under the sun. they've been using the same playbook for 100 years. We are just now catching on.
