Has Anyone Noticed that the ‘Damn Hole’ Is Still Not Plugged?
by SusanAnne HillerThe other day President Obama gave BP an ultimatum, he met with BP executives for the first time, and squeezed $20 billion from the company. He also made a prime-time bomb of a speech. Moreover, in that short period, Tony Hayward has been demoted, a part-time czar has been appointed, and it is now reported that claimants are being turned away.

The success the Obama administration had in getting the oil spill live feeds off the front pages of websites and cable news stations and cause the change in the narrative from millions of gallons of oil gushing to a seemingly more proactive, authoritative, and administrative role in managing the devastating situation is remarkable. At last, PR success.
There is, however, a major problem with all of this: the oil is still gushing from the well and now there are large amounts of methane causing dead zones. The “damn hole” is not plugged.
To review, BP confirmed that oil was gushing at a rate of 35,000 to 60,000 barrels a day, which would be equivalent to 1,470,000 to 2,520,000 (million) gallons per day (42 gallons equals 1 barrel). Presently, the oil continues to flow, but the rate is unknown as reported by CNBC on June 11:
Under the current system, a containment cap placed atop the gushing well pipe a mile below the ocean surface is funneling some of the escaping oil and gas from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico to the surface to be collected in ships.
An undetermined amount of oil continues to escape from the cap into the ocean.
Researchers say new figures for the blown-out well show the amount of oil gushing out may have been up to twice as much as previously thought. That could mean 42 million gallons to more than 100 million gallons of oil have already fouled the Gulf’s fragile waters.
It’s seems as though so many have forgotten that the well is still leaking profusely, even though some of the oil is being captured by BP. The MSM has adopted the Obama narrative once administration officials were able to finalize the PR maneuvers. There are two main factors that you must remember with this administration: they are PR masters and they will never let any crisis go to waste.
So, let’s get one thing straight: millions of gallons of oil continue to leak into the Gulf of Mexico. The leak has not been contained and officials cannot say for sure how many gallons continue to flow.
And what was the reason we didn’t accept the Dutch’s help within the first three days of the oil spill? Oh yes, windmills.

The damn hole is not plugged because Obama does not want the damn hole plugged…He wants another good crisis..The left DOES NOT REALLY CARE ABOUT PEOPLE only the agenda..if they can not offer help or solutions block efforts of the states to do things themselves it advances the agenda…THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU>>>GET IT THROUGH YOUR HEADS PEOPLE..I'm waiting for election tricks from the left in Nov
Every single conservative should record a TV Commercial with the oil bubbling behind them and ask the question: Can you trust the majority? Let's shove Rham's ever growing crisis down OBAMA's DEEP THROAT in November!
Have you noticed the Libercons don't really have much to say? I don't mean the MSM I'm talking about your liberal friends. They will blame this, blame that but they never will take responsibility for anything. Funny because it's how they live life too as well. They think everyone owes them something and anything that goes wrong it's always "pass the buck"…
I do believe that all the people down on the Gulf shores getting sick, are noticing! Obama does NOT want the hole plugged,….it goes against his 'go green' agenda!!
Your correct rckmom..the stupid libtards and enviro weanies did not want to do anything because it might hurt the environment ..so the oil washes ashore and hurts the environment..The truth is it's not about the environment…just to cripple the US….wake up and smell the coffee people
but obama is determined to solve the problem. He said so. So it should have stopped leaking all by itself.
Better yet, maybe obama could hold talks with the oil well. No pre-conditions, of course. Just convince the oil to stop leaking because it's in its own best interests. I am sure it will listen. Just like Iran did.

Your right MS if only we understood the oil well omitted that the US is a fault promise the oil well money and aid it would surely stop by itself….just like radical Islam has stopped
opppps not omitted my bad admitted
didn't the professors and nobel recipients figure this out yet? i thought if they couldn't figure it out, perhaps the swat teams sent early on could have figured out a way to stop. and yet all the lawyers sent didn't figure it out. did they send any other people to try and fix it. like the head of the plumbers union, or the head of the teamsters union? did obama try and contact acorn (or what ever they call themself these days) to stage a community protest to scare the oil back? has he sent jessie and al, i mean he did the shakedown himself, and didn't let jessie and al in on it, perhaps they have some spare time.
Shove it down their throats now, and continue to shove it down their throats maybe that will plug their holes.
The worst ecological disaster in US history and the twit-in-chief forms a commission! What leadership.
Maybe a beer summit with the oil well will work. Not knowing all the facts, it's obvious that the oil well has acted stupidly.
Never let a good hole go to waste.
SusanAnne,
You are not being fair.
The President is focused like a laser on the spill.
Or was that laser beamed on jobs?
Oh well. Lets just forget all that oil and stuff and have a good time!

0bumbles is milking this particular crisis for all the political capital he can before he's either forced to admit that they're months/years from capping this well, or until someone comes up with a simple solution to stop it in spite of the Dim administration's roadblocks. Last week, the Coast Guard wouldn't even let the skimmers out to try to soak up some of it in spite of Gov Jindal's exhortations. I agree with rckmom above in thinking that 0bumbles and the rest of his merry band are trying to shove their green agenda down our throats using this particular crisis as the reason.
Obama needs to study the situation, discuss it in the faculty lounge first.
IMO "someone" doesnt want it plugged too soon. This disaster has open the flood gates to all kinds of opportunities. Legislation, unions, power grabs use your imagination the list can go on and on. That obamanation in the WH is going to make leaps and bounds with this thing and we the people are going to pay the price.
He creates a commission with nothing but folks who are book smart no street smarts let alone oil industry experience. He decides to go after every angle possible about the leak vs stopping it. I have seen this vid and that vid of ppl with ideas on how to stop it but what happens they get stopped. Or folks who want to help with the cleanup and they are railroaded like Kevin Costner. Its a massive disaster and the guy wants to help let him try his devices he fails and makes it worse take every penny he has, and the same goes for anyone else who wants to help. But to shut the door on what 13 nations offering help and going the route of investigation and legislation vs plugging the hole shows ones true intent. They dont want the hole plugged anytime soon. Pay attention to the players involved who will benefit, we already know, thanks to that guy labeled a "loon", that Soros is positioned to make millions even billions who else is waiting? Cap & trade gets through using this as a vehicle who else profits, Al Gore, Fannie/Freddie…. we all know Crime Inc. (yep that "loon" exposed this a while back too)
Bendover and hold onto your ankles kids the radicals are going for a ride and its your ass they are going to tear up via this disaster!
I can only lead this "American horse" to the water… take back America through http://www.savingtherepublic.com
I think the smell of coffee has been replaced by the smell of oil in their nostrils!
Gibbs is a joke of a puppet! He is NOT allowed to answer any real questions…
maybe the justice dept should sue the oil well. That will stop it. And then they can talk about how they can't do anything about all of the undocumented oil wells.
When someone on the right has something to say, they instantly show their stupidity. Although the left benefits from the right’s stupidity, it does not result in what’s best for our nation. We need two competent sides to keep each other on our toes, i.e. “checks and balances.” The sooner the right stops being stupid, the better off we’ll all be.
The refusal of the Dutch offer is a typical red herring that professional agitators use to fire up the less intelligent on the right for their own gain. (Being a right wing pundit sure beats working for a living.) So it all comes down to the bottom feeders with no ability to think need to stop falling for the myth that big corporations and weak government is what’s best for all of us.
Dutch oil skimmers were not and are not the solution. There were enough oil skimmers in the area already. It’s OK to hate Obama, but quit lying about everything just to make Obama look bad. All it does is make you look stupid and phony.

The administration does not want the hole plugged. Plugging the damn hole would not support their agenda to take us all back to the stone age: living in harmony with and worshipping mother earth until the end of our 41.5 year average lifespan. Well, I guess the dear leader knows what's best for us all…
I spent every summer on the Gulf watching Pelicans fish, feeding Seagulls, watching dolphins hunt in the shallows in the evening. All of my life.
There are no words for that picture….
Everything that you have said is false.
Must be time for Malia to kick some Ass.
Now Mr. Welk! …calling people stupid, is uncalled for. You know you could hurt someone’s feelings, and that would be counter to the liberal ethos, of (faux) compassion. Now that you’re back, would you please play the accordion, and the bubbles…dig the bubbles man!

Has anyone noticed that the Damn Hole has not been plugged?
I have.
Has anyone asked the questions why it has not been plugged?
Np. They are too busy gaining political traction from the spill.
Has anyone truly answered the question, why it has not been plugged?
I can.
But there is no point in adding to the furor…………..
I always liked the Accordions you just don't hear them anymore.
John,
Have the American people ever "sued" or sought reparations like in the world court? Can they? Sue the US gov't for failing to regulate and protect our ocean and inter-coastal waterways?
This tragedy is so NOT about only monetary damages. This constant spew of crude, propane, Benzene and God alone knows what else…if it goes for too long it could kill off so much marine life as to make the Gulf a "dead ocean."
If the disaster reaches that proportion do "we the people" have any recourse for OUR loss? Money that could be used to clean that water and then re-establish marine life? Has it ever been done? Is it legally possible for the US to sue in the World Court or the Hague?
Yep.
Thats was my ex-wifes theory………….
It's too bad Hussein didn't pick up on my idea of plugging the hole with Moochelle's 'junk in the trunk'.
Worst US natural disaster (?) ever meets worst POTUS ever!
There's always Weird Al….
Might be about time to launch some cruise missiles at an aspirin factory in some God forsaken country, like Big Billy did, to divert attention.
As usual when someone like cheereo here feel the need to expose perceived stupidity on the right, they instantly turn to lies and misinformation in order to "prove" their point.
Dutch skimmers were in deed offered three days into this mess and because of some "Stupid" EPA rules like the ones that got us drilling at this depth in the first place the US had to say no.
We said No because
A. BO does not understand how to do what Bush did three days after Katrina
B. BO WANTS a Crisis so he can use it to the lefts advantage.
C. Shit happens let me go back to watching American Idol.
Skimmers were not enough and are not "the" solution you say Cheereo…more misinformation.
Do the math.
If we had started using those skimmers after the 6th day we could have skimmed 321,200,000 gallons of oil from the water before it ever hit land.
Thats a lot of water to cary for your Master there Cheereo
Libs love to ban things, maybe we should ban future oil spills. Wait a dang minute, that could be the big plan, if we do not drill anymore, we will not have anymore spills. Damn sneaky regressives.
Yes! Dr Chu, who won a Nobel Prize for Laser Research has the solution!
Yes… Sharks… with Lasers…

Obama, on commisions… past and present…
That's because American LIBERALS never grow up; they're stuck in an age grouping of between 2 and perhaps 6 years old. They throw tantrums that would make a two year old ashamed and blame everyone and everything else for their own mistakes and problems. Yet these are the people who believe, with all of their hearts, that they are superior to the rest of us.
The other day I was listening to the radio, and the host said…."Remember during Katrina, Bush was
asked why he hated black people"…….Then he said, "It's time to ask Obama why he hates Southerners"….
I thought it would be a good question for the MSM to ask him…..(Sorry, I forgot who it was, so I can't give
proper credit.)
"…the oil is still gushing from the well and now there are large amounts of methane causing dead zones. The “damn hole” is not plugged…"
Surely, the 20 billion 'consolation' dollars (in singles), Obama and the BP CEO could be used to plug the hole? Even if that effort failed, LA, who actually knows what they're doing and have the professionals to do it, could finally end this thing.
Now there's a win-win situation if ever there was one.
Obama not only wants to invoke Marxist tyranny, but has now unequivocally proven he is incompetent to boot. This is a very DANGERSOUS situation for We the People Citizens to be in right now. King George was only a tyrant, not incompetent.
If there is any poetic justice in the world, Jimmy Carter is doing the biggest dance of his life now that he has been demoted to the 2nd worst president in modern US History!
VOTE NOVEMBER FOR THE CONSTITUTION, NOT IDEOLOGY!!

Cuba and Mexico could sue the US soon…
Then get a bf. Of course, I'd blogger.
That's one country suing another. Can the citizens of a country sue their own gov't? After all, it's OUR Gulf, not Obama's or BP's. It's outrterritorial water, not Obama's or BP's.
Can we sue them for failure to protect it?
Anyone else heard the story of King Canute who tried to stop the tide simply by yelling at it?
Tides don't change when kings order them to any more than oil wells stop leaking when presidents order them to.
Oh dear and gee whiz……………………."stupid" are we, dd?
The only STUPID person is you; lying about what if well know FACT and hurling all kinds of patently ridiculous ad hominem statements around.
It would be nice to have "two competent sides"; sadly, your side has been so completely and utterly incompetent for the past 150 years, with the last 70 or so being shamefacedly even worse than previous decades, that there is no hope for that.
Please look up the definition of "RED HERRING",since it is mordantly obvious that you have less than no idea the meaning of the term.
Not allowing berms to be built, nor aid from 28 European and Canadian firms and organizations who have dealt with massive oil spills before, not to mention also completely ignoring suggestions/help from Americas, is what makes Obama and his administration far worse than just "stupid"! Once the oil reaches the shores, entire ecosystems will be destroyed forever ! Shutting down ALL other drilling in the Gulf is also beyond "stupid". Having a "committee" composed of people who have NEVER dealt with this kind of problem, outside of some IVORY TOWER, is indeed beyond "stupid" as well !
It is YOU who are incapable of thinking!
And FYI………………BIG GOVERNMENT is NEVER the answer for anything.
I can't help but notice the parallel between this oil well catastrophe, and the 2008 election of barack hussein. Just consider for a moment the conditions that preceded and led to both national disasters.
For decades we allowed unaccountable, national authorities to shape the policies that left the American People little choice. In the political arena, we had Party insiders rigging the nomination process so that their own preferred candidates won the nomination. With the oil industry we had the insiders at MMS awarding drilling leases to their own preferred, and highest paying companies. In both cases it mattered little to those in charge what damage their actions might lead to, as long as their "candidates" prospered.
And of course there were the supposed "watchdogs." Those people like the inspectors general who are charged with investigating and exposing abuses within the regulatory agencies like MMS, EPA, and even the SEC for that matter, who criminally failed to uncover the corruption and outright deception of BP and the federal government. Likewise, those supposed "watchdogs" formerly known as the MSM, the press, who purposely looked the other way regarding the background and real agenda of barack hussein and the "progressive" left, while cynically manipulating the Republican outcome that delivered us the unpalatable John McCain.
But then came the inevitable dates, April 2010, and November 2008, when the unthinkable occurred. The rupture and destruction of the deep water horizon oil well, and the election of the marxist usurper, barack hussein. In the case of the oil leak in the Gulf, although some experts were warning that the effects would be catastrophic, most of the media reports downplayed the danger and underestimated the rate of contamination into the ecosystem. And again, just like the election of the anti-American leftist to the White House and the majorities in Congress, as many experts were rightly warning about the catastrophe that had taken place, most of the media reports downplayed any of the damage that would come of this.
Now, both of these disasters have proven themselves to be impossible to control. Damage from the oil leak has begun to reach our shores, with the absolute assurance that the contamination will take decades to clean up. This while the source of the contamination continues to spew forth its poison into the system. And again, from the political arena, as time has passed we are seeing the destruction of the hussein agenda reaching our shores, with the absolute assurance that its contamination of the American way of life will take decades to clean up. The oil spill has caused more unemployment, just like the hussein agenda. The oil spill has begun to destroy the ecosystem, just like husseincare has begun to destroy the health care system. The oil spill has proven the incompetence of the federal government, just like the hussein regime has been proven incompetent in dealing with the recession, iran, north korea, russia, china, or the national debt. Just as the only response we have seen to the oil spill in the Gulf has been pointing the finger of blame on others, all we see in response to domestic and worldwide crises is the same finger of blame pointed at everyone else.
The list could go on and on showing the parallels between these two tragedies. But maybe it's just enough to say that come November we must plug the hole and stop the leak. And after that, we must commit ourselves to cleaning up the contamination and restoring our political system; holding to account the leftist, "progressive" democrats, as well as the MSM, to pay in full for all the damage that they have caused.

Many foreign offers to help with oil spill still hanging, website indicates
WASHINGTON — Some 28 foreign countries and international organizations have offered help in responding to the Gulf of Mexico oil spill, but the bulk of those overtures remain "under consideration," according to a tally posted on the U.S. State Department's website.
On May 10, for example, the United Arab Emirates offered to send oil skimmers, dispersant and containment boom, along with human and technical support, the website says. As of Friday, no decision had been made on any of those propositions, the site indicates.

Be very careful TS when considering the idea of utilizing the World Court in any way to judge a case against the federal government. This is not to say the American People don't have justifiable grievances against the federal government. We do. But you need to keep this one thing in mind. As corrupt and culpable as our government has become in the destruction of the human condition, they have only now, through the "leadership" of barack hussein, entered into the level of utter contempt and disregard for human life that has existed in the world since time began. The Hague was set up for countries to bring charges against the leadership of other countries, and there are conditions that make that necessary. But when working properly, the American system of justice would be far more effective at dealing with our internal affairs. I would not trust the outcome, nor the precedent that it would set, of bringing a case like this to the World Court. That would only serve as a platform for the enemies of the United States to coalesce against us.
It would be better for us to correct our political balance starting in November, and pushing our newly elected leaders to begin investigations into the malfeasance of the current leadership. Even now, Darryl Issa is making news by announcing he will begin those investigations in earnest should the Republicans regain a majority in the House. If that should happen, I think you will see just how powerful our legal system can be, even bringing down an administration, and jailing the perpetrators for high crimes and misdemeanors.
You have to wonder if the OBAMA is trying to use this disaster to further his leftist Cap and Trade bill?
Folks, brand the Gulf spill into your minds. We are seeing a perfect example of an over-bloated government and its inability to function in a crisis. Remember BO wants bigger government. With bigger government comes corruption, inefficiency, stupidity, and conflict. What I'm seeing is a replay of the Keystone Cops at the federal level. All it can do is stumble over other agencies, contradict, point fingers, refuse responsibility, and wring its ever so clean hands while Americans suffer both physically and economically. And it's not funny. Not to worry. The govt is here to help. BS. They are there to impede, bloviate, and strike a pose for the photo ops. Yep, they are there to help their campaigns. Just another example of the Law of diminishing Returns and the Peter Principle in action.
Everyone accept Obama, all he can see is away to try to get Cap and Tax passed or another failing stimulus and to top that off he keeps looking for ways to destroy the small business as well as take over our corporations. Have you noticed how business is evil but Obama can save us.
He is the disaster, he does not know how to govern but if he can he will talk you to sleep.

The Gulf of Mexico disaster looks eerily manufactured. Never let a mismanaged crisis go to waste. Whether it was manufactured and magnified by deliberate and or stupid obfuscation and error of the US Government, it is obvious that our government had no contingency plans either, and they are still slow to react. Katrina was a kiss compared to this Really, to be fair, there has been a rush to judgment against BP. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. If the cause of this disaster was underwritten by US regulators giving blanket approval to everything that BP put in front of them, then our US Government is to blame. Lack of oversight. Regardless, it is essential to ensure the cooperation of everyone, worldwide, to diminish this ever growing ecological disaster. Our government's response has been a totally innefective presence since day one. In the meantime our government has eliminated the thousands of jobs of those oil employees, who have been effected by the drilling moratorium. It seems that our government is creating a crisis.

No. Red Adair died.
There are some good people at Wild Well Control in Houston. Frankly, I have talked to some friends who are real well connected. As they say at NASA, the infamous words: "Houston, we have a problem"……….
My own personal opinion, is there is mechanical integrity failure; whether at the wellhead itself and the Christmas Tree, or the integrity of the casing string itself has been compromised.
In any event, simple logic would have one deduce that:
1. If the well could have been shut in, it would have, at any cost, even at the risk of losing the well. I believe it cannot be shut in. The two relief wells being sidetracked into it, are an "iffy" proposition at best.
2. Simple business economics dictates, that rather than wait 60 days, and be shaken down for 20 billion by the government, that BP would have plugged the well, at ANY cost. They could have spent a billion in the first week, closed the well in and saved 19 billion.
3.. That well was a "tight hole". In oilfield terminology that means everything is top secret. I believe BP just drilled into a monster field, ans was trying to play it down and keep it secret
You know I have been pretty quiet on this topic, but something doesn't "feel right." There is one thing that both BP and the Obama Administration have in common; they both have that deer in the headlights look.

Wow….learning curve's steeeeeep today John. I'm learning more and more with every post. So the American people as a class CAN sue the Federal Gov't and Obama IN AMERICAN COURTS over this?
I just assumed we had to go outside our country to a world court to even do it. I'm no fan of the world court but I didn't know who else would be legal to hear the case. Not that I have the same faith in US courts that you do…..seen too many just stupid decisions.
Our luck the suit would end up in the 9th circuit, O.M.G.
I'm thrilled Issa is pursuing this. The Gulf does NOT belong to the gov't. It belongs to America. And it needs a voice to speak for it as do the citizens of America, not just those with legitimate monetary claims….this is an national loss.
I also fear what the "gov't" and courts might come up with. Looking at the law of "unintended consequences" re agencies like the EPA and FCC…I'm not too trusting.
Anyway glad to know Issa believes there is an accounting due. Hope it doesn't just die a quiet death the way so many such "projects" have in our zombie congress. For all they've accomplished since HC they might as well have been in a permanent recess.

I was excited when they sent lawyers down to New Orleans, but they didn't shove them down the hole to plug the pipe. What a shame.
I am still amazed that BP agreed to the $20mm. Stupid, they could beat this in court because with enough skimmers the oil would have never reached land. Obama and the gang stopped the skimmers. They stopped Gov. J and any attempt to stop the oil from reaching land. Obama can not stop this oil well and he probably hopes it keep pouring oil out for the next 20 years. He really is anti American.
