The Consent of the Governed
by SusanAnne HillerKnowing that the 111th Democrat-Progressive ruled Congress is indeed tyrannical in its endeavors to ram through ObamaCare, the Left continuously touts that the American people want this bill. Now, I have seen the polls and so have you, and so have the Democrats, including Obama, and they clearly know that they American people are vehemently against this healthcare takeover.

This leads me to my next point. I search through our Founder’s words in the Declaration of Independence. I’m searching for guidance, for the Founders must have known there would be tyranny lurking at every corner to deconstruct the nation that they had instituted. So many of us read the founding documents today, dusting them off, reading every word, clinging to every word. And there it is:
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. emphasis mine
What’s missing is the how. We have the Right. But, does it go further? An obligation, perhaps? Do the Founders leave the door open to any effective means? The people have the Right to abolish an oppressive form of government. Because we do not consent, we have the Right to institute a new government–to abolish all that exists and start new. All the entitlements, bribes, kickbacks, deals, unfair taxation–everything. They give Americans the Right, directive, and ability to dissolve the current tyrannical government. They knew this would happen. That is why they give us the “Right” to guard this great nation against future tyranny.
In addition, our Founders, as only Fathers could to, give us the directive in the Declaration of Independence:
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security. emphasis mine
It is our duty to ”throw off such government.” Not optional. An obligation.
It appears that there is a difference in the working definition of “the consent of the governed.” While the Obama administration keeps saying, “We won,” so shut up and deal with it to lawmakers and the American people, is that how they are qualifying the consent of the governed.
Now, we have an impasse. Is the consent of the governed based on the elections of representatives sent to DC to represent the will of the people? Or, does the consent of the governed mean that once legislation has been offered, dissected by the American people, and their opinion voiced to their representative, only then does the representative vote according to the will of the people in their district?
Presently, Rasmussen reports that only 21% believe the government has the consent of the governed.
How does Congress obtain the consent of the governed, when the entire Obama campaign was a lie and you’ve got Anita Dunn admitting:
“In a campaign, you’re not held to the same standard of actually doing what you say you’re going to do,” said Anita Dunn, a former White House communications director and Obama campaign adviser.
It appears that we need to have campaign promise reform more so than campaign finance reform.
At this very point in time, when Congress ignores the consent of the governed, subverts the Constitution to an obscene extent, and attempts to enforce a healthcare takeover designed to obviously trigger a socialistic society to control the people, what recourse are the American people left–liberal judges that this administration can influence? It is apparent that the Founders gave us instruction when the “consent of the governed” is not adhered to.
To the Democrats in Congress elected who truly thought they would represent their districts and believed in the oath you swore, do you even realize that your vote–the people’s will–is becoming obsolete and usurped by the executive branch. Just look at the EPA attempting to enforce cap and trade legislation, the power shift to the HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the healthcare bill, the czars, and the remaining power landing directly on the executive branch and the Obama White House. Why do we even need you anymore? Clearly, you are not representing the people and do not have the “consent of the governed.”
And because you–the Democrats in Congress–have not read any of the ObamaCare legislation, you wouldn’t even know your power–the people’s power– is being stripped. Obama is making Congress obsolete–with willful enablers–the weak-kneed Democrats. Even the Blue Dogs have gone the way of the Dodo bird. We don’t even hear talk of the Blue Dogs anymore–guess they were masquerading as conservatives–as socialists tend to do–to hide their true intentions. The shift in power from the legislative branch to the executive branch by Obama is unprecedented. It is also the foundation for a socialistic state–a strong, centralized government (via the executive branch in this case).
Another newsflash to Congress, the power shift is not accidental or a coincidence–it is intentional and, ultimately, destructive to the country.
My fear, among many, is that like most outrage, it eventually dies down. The Obama administration may weather the storm and the American people and press (who actually report on it) go silent. We scream for a few days or weeks, then once we get used to it, like bad medicine, it eventually tastes ok.
How do I know this? Well, the czars are still there–including Cass Sunstein and Kevin Jennings–the EPA is still grabbing power, the healthcare bill is alive, the Slaughter Rule is breathing, and the WH is still managing the census for starters. This administration cuts loose only those it truly doesn’t need. Van Jones resigned without the WH disavowing him, and Anita Dunn resigned, but how important was she? The EPA is taking over where Van Jones was needed. It seems that those who are needed to continue the framework for Obama’s core plans for America’s “transformation” are still in place.
Now, what do Americans do with all of this information, because the Founders have made it clear that no matter what, the “People” retain all of the power.

Sick people with pre-existing conditions cant get insurance because the cost on the free market is astronomical for them. Obama says his plan will provide insurance to those with preexisitng conditions and somehow costs wont go up. So sicker people who require more services and medicine will be added to the insurance pool and that brings costs down. It dosent make sense

If the health care bill passes, Democrats are doomed. Even in the best possible scenario, i.e. unemployment falls significantly, the economy experiences a vigorous expansion, come November, liberals have lost the battle for public opinion.

It will be interesting to see how many Democrats revolt against their own party.
That's the question, how can we eventually stop all of this. My guess, if Obama gets health care, student loans, and a few other things nationalized, he'll come for our guns and weapons next. Why? Once he has more financial and governmental control, our personally held firearms are all that is stopping his goal–the complete takeover, I mean "fundamental transformation" of this once great county. I think back to 1976, when all of us were so proud of our America. I was only 12, but remember it well. In fact, I thought it was a little pro-US corny–how wrong I was–I wish this type of patriotism existed by the masses today as it did then. What has historically been pro-American is now chastized by the MSM as being fringe "right." That's crazy. I believe the fiscal conservatives are a majority and hope we can regain control of the country. Once we get control and focus the US back on the right track, we can then start complaining and arguing about the social issues. Let's keep the focus on the money and corruption for now, please.

All other forms of alternative energy even if we max them out – wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass – do not have the horsepower to do the job. Even if they did we cannot transport enough power from those areas that create it to those that will consume it.
The only way out of our current situation is to determine what is absolutely necessary and to use the organs of the federal government to fix the damage it caused, and take the rest, and throw it away. In doing that we will end the constant cycle that creates one crises after another. In doing this we will be able to rebuild our banks, our military, our communities, and fund restructured entitlement programs via a vibrant and growing economy. Building modern nuclear power plants, using that clean power to convert domestically produced coal to domestically produced liquid fuel; and continue to support applied science to research solar panel technology to shrink the cost of production, and increase its capacity to generate power and batteries to store it on cloudy days.
We did it before and we will do it again, I have not a single doubt in my mind as to our ability to overcome this manufactured fiscal disaster or any other for that matter, real or imagined. We know that when we harness everyday wisdom, and apply it to seemingly complex situations we solve them. Since this Nation’s founding we have overcome every single challenge that has been placed in our way – we innovate, we compete, we overcome. And at times go to war to restore the peace or our liberty, and families all across America bear the raw cost of those battles – including mine.
In fact, I think this nightmare will be fertile ground for any politician, Democrat or Republican, to advocate for fiscal soundness, insurmountable national defense, restructured entitlement programs, and individual State control of the rest. Sir, politics ought not to be about who wins and who looses, or what party prevails, it ought to be about who can best articulate, and promote our shared values, and principles and in doing that lift all citizens up, not a few at the expense of the other. Remember, as President Reagan said, “If we lower our standards we lower the flag.” I say we put the shovels away and grab a bull dozer and a half track and get to work. I say we take our eyes off the politicians and put them back on the business leaders, the engineers, the scientists and the service members who preserve this great country, and all those men and women that make this country move everyday without so much as a thank you. This is where our attention should be, this is where our hope will turn to reality, this is where change will hone the granite that is the impenetrable American spirit.
This is what we the people, need most of all.

Forgive me, but the Founders did NOT "give" us this Right. They recognized that people possessed certain unalienable Rights, including the Right to handle the abuses of government in whatever manner we should deem appropriate.
Government has never "given" a Right, because it cannot. It can either protect our Rights, or in failing that charge, it can and must be replaced.

SusanAnne – very good post! One thing I don't get is how anyone can modify any bill passed by the Senate. I mean, it already PASSED, so how can any tinkering be done on it? Isn't it required that the exact same bill be passed by the House in order to go to the President for signature into law?

If Health Care passes unemployment is going to rise empirically! Consider the additional cost burden on any business, 10 part time positions will consolidate into 1 full time position (think Walmart, Home Depot). The construction industry which is entirely labor dependent will almost cease to exist. Think about a simple service call from your plumber, he will have to double his rates in order to stay in business. If you think the economy is bad right now you have not seen anything.
The changes that are happening in this country are astounding. I do not want to live in the "new" progressive America. I also choose not to move to another country. We have called, faxed, emailed, protested, voted in Senator Scott Brown and still they choose not to listen. Anyone have an idea how to make them listen? Any ideas? I feel that without a strategy to get their attention that this country is going to explode! Hey Washington get your hands out of my wallet and leave me alone. I decide how much of my money I get to keep. I will not tolerate any new taxes as you waste what we pay in taxes now. States that raise taxes to offset deficits end up with higher deficits, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, CALIFORNIA! When Congressional actions are nullified by this "health care" legislation with the parliamentary trickery being developed by the White House maybe, just maybe Congress will awaken. Thanks for writing an encouraging post. There is truly hope, real hope, not the fake, self serving, slimy kind put forth by this Admin. GOOOH (pronounced GO) is refreshing. We have to act to impact. The American Revolution was won by local farmers, making up a rag tag brigade, standing up to tyranny, and going to battle. We must do likewise. I believe GOOOH is a good place to engage in that battle.

I think they've already done that… I was shocked in the first month of Obama as prez, he was calling out private individuals by name like Rick Santelli, Rush Limbaugh, and others. Then demonizing protesters, the snitch site, and FOX news.
There are also many many daily calls to anything they don't like, and I'm sure pushing things they do like. Scary stuff.
