If Pelosi Has the Votes, Then Why Does the House Need the Slaughter Solution to Pass ObamaCare

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is bluffing here when she says:
“Yes,” Pelosi said when asked if she believed the House would end up having the votes to approve healthcare.
“If we took it up today, yes,” the speaker quickly added.
The speaker still cautioned, though, that the timing and actual vote count on the bill couldn’t be entirely set in stone until the final legislative language was finalized and until the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) delivers its score of the bill’s impact.
There is no chance Pelosi has the votes to pass ObamaCare and she knows it. If she did have the votes, she would have already had the vote and wouldn’t need the “Slaughter Solution.”
House Rules Chairwoman Louise Slaughter is prepping to help usher the healthcare overhaul through the House and potentially avoid a direct vote on the Senate overhaul bill, the chairwoman said Tuesday. Slaughter is weighing preparing a rule that would consider the Senate bill passed once the House approves a corrections bill that would make changes to the Senate version. Slaughter has not taken the plan to Speaker Pelosi as Democrats await CBO scores on the corrections bill. “Once the CBO gives us the score we’ll spring right on it,” she said.
The Slaughter Solution has one very large obstacle–the Constitution Article I, Section 7–which states:
All bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate may propose or concur with Amendments as on other Bills. Every Bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the Objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, to the other House, by which it shall likewise be reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House, it shall become a Law. But in all such Cases the Votes of both Houses shall be determined by Yeas and Nays, and the Names of the Persons voting for and against the Bill shall be entered on the Journal of each House respectively. If any Bill shall not be returned by the President within ten Days (Sundays excepted) after it shall have been presented to him, the Same shall be a Law, in like Manner as if he had signed it, unless the Congress by their Adjournment prevent its Return, in which Case it shall not be a Law.
Every Order, Resolution, or Vote to which the Concurrence of the Senate and House of Representatives may be necessary (except on a question of Adjournment) shall be presented to the President of the United States; and before the Same shall take Effect, shall be approved by him, or being disapproved by him, shall be repassed by two thirds of the Senate and House of Representatives, according to the Rules and Limitations prescribed in the Case of a Bill.
Clearly, this Congress is so desperate to pass ObamaCare, despite the American people’s utter hatred of the bill and everything it represents–including the path to socialism and government control of the people. However, if this Congress continues down this path of violating the Constitution, the “people” will have a viable case, class-action or otherwise, in the US courts because it is going to be extremely difficult for a judge to ignore that the 111th Democrat-Progressive led Congress violated Article I, Section 7 to the most obscene extent.

Point out the Constitutionalty of any piece of legislation, (from this WH), all you want. It's clear they have no respect for this document. I see two reasons why they are pushing to get this "reconciliation" passed as soon as possible First is they are hoping they will buy enough time between now and the November elections to thoroughly distract the ignorant American people. The other reason IS the distraction. They will move to immigration reform in the hope of placating the minority voters. They are hoping to deflect the fact that they are willing to trample on the will of the people by, once again, pretending to champion them.

Currently, according to the debt clock medicare costs the taxpayer 762 billion. (2*)
So we are only 402 billion over the CBO projections on medicare for 13 years from now. Paying more than double the projection made as the WORST CASE for 2023 in 2010.
Forgive us ignorants for questioning the validity of a CBO projection. And just another little fact, medicare was sold in the same fashion, that it would reduce the deficit. It is currently the single largest item in the federal budget, costing over 100 billion more than the DOD budget while fighting two wars.

Your assertion is more than a bit misleading. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is a good example. Most of the Democratic votes against this bill were from representatives and senators from southern states. These states are now represented by Republicans. Had they been represented by Republicans then, the number of Republican votes against would have been much higher and the number of Democratic votes against would have been a lot fewer.

Because the HCB isn't unconstitutional. People talking about it being unconstitutional doesn't make it so. Even if it were, signing legislation that is ultimately found unconstitutional is not grounds for impeachment. It's not that unusual for laws to be declared unconstitutional. A president can be impeached for "treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors." Art. II, Sec. 4. I'm sure you have an "informed opinion" as to what this language means. Whether it's correct or not is another matter. Good luck with your pain.

We have allowed our Republic to become a Democracy (pure majority rule), the most vile form of government devised by man. When a secure enough voting majority (51%) propose tyranny, who cares what the Constitution and the law says; the only ones protesting are the demasculated voting minority (49%) who are helpless to do anything about it.
If the courts will not enforce the "natural born" clause of the Constitution, why would they enforce any other provision of it that is not conformable to "public policy"? So far, they have ruled that the "People" do not have "standing" to question the qualifications (or Constitutional violations) of those they elect to public office. That is the position we are now in.
Perhaps being in a "State of Emergency" (which suspends the Constitution) is the answer to this dilemma.
I think in this day and age, it doesn't have to be "blood" in the literal sense, but energy, work, the use of technology, and the continued speaking up and speaking out against the Progressives that are ruining our country.

The Goldwater Institute has offered to file suit on behalf of states against the Healthcare bill if two states pass Freedom of Healthcare amendments. Virginia passed today and I think it has to be on their ballot. Missouri which is my state has a bill that has passed the state house of representatives and is in senate now. If passes it will
be on the ballot on Nov 2. This would be states rights vs Federal government with hope of Supreme court hearing it.

He can give his green friends assurances that there will be no drilling, etc., and it could affect private property rights. And he is not doing it through a law. No, he is doing it through an executive order or signing statement – no approval necessary.

1) The CBO is forced to double-count hundreds of millions of dollars. There is an assumption of cutting Medicare payments to doctors by 21%, and the current "Medicare Fix" bill is in the works seperately, this completely wipes out any perceived savings.
2) The number that the Dems so often quote, 31 million, includes not only Americans, but also illegals who are here. A good portion of those people are willfully uninsured, myself included.
I would propose cutting the defecit by cutting your sorry a$$ off of the welfare rolls. For the uninsured I propose this: get a job with benefits, or at least one where you can pay for benefits yourself or if some extenuating circumstance exists, go to the emergency room, they can't refuse you care.
Even if it did exactly as advertised, $118B reduction over a 10-year period, that number is insignificant considering that the defecit increased by almost twice that amount last month alone. Gee, 10 years to make up for 2 weeks of spending.
I guess if whoever is paying understood capitalism, they would pay a few bucks a post and find people that could actually sting together a coherent position in defense of whatever they happen to be talking about.
