Obama and the Missing Nobel Prize Money
by SusanAnne HillerThe other day I pointed out the fact that President Obama has yet to donate the money he was awarded as the Nobel recipient. Obama stated he would donate the $1.4 million prize to charity. It’s been several weeks since he received the money and no one knows what’s happened to it.
The US Code is very clear in Receipt and Disposition of Foreign Gifts and Decorations. The code states:
1) The Congress consents to—
(A) the accepting and retaining by an employee of a gift of minimal value tendered and received as a souvenir or mark of courtesy; and
(B) the accepting by an employee of a gift of more than minimal value when such gift is in the nature of an educational scholarship or medical treatment or when it appears that to refuse the gift would likely cause offense or embarrassment or otherwise adversely affect the foreign relations of the United States, except that—
(i) a tangible gift of more than minimal value is deemed to have been accepted on behalf of the United States and, upon acceptance, shall become the property of the United States; and
(ii) an employee may accept gifts of travel or expenses for travel taking place entirely outside the United States (such as transportation, food, and lodging) of more than minimal value if such acceptance is appropriate, consistent with the interests of the United States, and permitted by the employing agency and any regulations which may be prescribed by the employing agency.
(2) Within 60 days after accepting a tangible gift of more than minimal value (other than a gift described in paragraph (1)(B)(ii)), an employee shall—
(A) deposit the gift for disposal with his or her employing agency; or
(B) subject to the approval of the employing agency, deposit the gift with that agency for official use.
While I have seen many dissections of how this code should be interpreted, as well as its history, there has been silence on it from the White House. And, there have been no further inquiries as to what Obama will do or has done with the prize money. I think it is fair to follow up–even if the 60 days have not passed–because the money, according to US law, should have been immediately turned over.
I guess we’ll just have to wait for Obama’s tax returns in April to see where the money went.

Some "explanations" of the missing $1.4 Million:
1. Since the awarding of the prize to hussein was clearly a loony-left joke, perhaps the prize money was just Monopoly money?
2. hussein sent it to his favorite charity: The Tony Rezko Politicians Purchasing Fund.
3. Congressional bribes and kickbacks for healthcare support
4. A new church for "GDA" wright, hussein's vile, racist mentor for 20 years.
5. and so on and so on……
What a great and "teachable moment" for Obama to give all the money to the Haitian relief fund at WhiteWash.gov. Just like he's asked all Americans to do. I'm quite sure this is exactly what he has in mind. Well, either that or maybe catching another Broadway Show on date night.
Planting a garden before the frost has heaved? Yeah, sure. The biggest plant here is the 'bogus'.
Acorn is a non-profit, so counts as charitable donation. It'll end up there one way or another.

By the law that is quoted in the article, the President cannot give the money to charity. He must turn it over to the U.S. Treasury.

Also, his acceptance of the prize, as stated in the Emoluments clause of the Constitution, needed to be authorized by Congress. (Not that they wouldn't have, but the Constitution is subverted… again…)

Nothing "takes time" when you have a staff as large as the Obamas do. All they have to do is say "get the money to (whatever organization)" and it's done for them. If they are waiting to see who they want to donate to, that's one thing. But a lot of us heard "the Obamas are looking for a church", and then "Obama prays at the Camp David chapel", and meanwhile it just seems like the gym or the golf course is Obama's Sunday church. I don't think the President (as a government "employee") has the right to keep or even donate the funds to charity, It belongs to the US government (we the tax payers) and should go into the general fund to pay down the deficit.

This is a great observation. We forgot about that in the avalanche of the news.Also the constitution meant that people with double citizenship may not be President of the USA. But who cares about the laws in out government.
