A Republican Primary for Sen. Lugar?
by Roger StoneHe used to be known as “Richard Nixon’s favorite Mayor” when he was Mayor of Indianapolis and while the New York Times says he’s a “conservative” there is little in his record to indicate this. Indiana Senator Richard Lugar has always been a “moderate” Republican and has drifted further left as time goes by.
The Times also speaks of Lugar’s “affection” for Ronald Reagan which wasn’t reflected in his Chairmanship of Senator Howard Baker’s campaign for President in 1980. While there is no doubt that Lugar is a decent man and dedicated public servant, thirty years in the Senate is enough. The election of Dan Coats to the Senate from Indiana is proof the state can sustain the election of a real conservative.
Lugar is defying his party on an earmark ban, a bill that would create a path to citizenship for some illegal immigrants, a military spending authorization bill and an arms control treaty with Russia, the Times noted on Sunday. He even declined to sign a brief supporting state lawsuits against President health care law.
Talk of a challenge from Governor Mitch Daniels are false.
Although a solid conservative, Daniels is a former Lugar Administrative Assistant and protege. Clearly it is time for Senator Lugar to face a Republican Primary. Lugar says he welcomes such a challenge. Let the people decide.

The poster child for TERM LIMITS!!!!
We need to primary every one of these me me me politburo first types.
Luger is a sellout, a communist in Conservative clothing.
Guess what Lugar, your on the list to be replaced.
Sorry, that disticntion belongs to Mr. Rangel. We can agree that Lugar deserves to be retired, one way or another, but please do not deny Rangel his Legacy!

One word can describe Luger…ESTABLISHMENT
Good grief, So many rinos; so much still to do in the house and senate. Sad to say some of the rodents are entrenched until 2014 and 2016. 2012 is somewhere close by where we can eliminate approx 20 dim senators and some rinos. Let's hope more voters wake up by then to the direction our country has gone and reverse it to get back on track to fiscal conservatism. The survival of our Republic demands it. GO TEA party movement!
Good-Loogie NEEDS to be primaried and REMOVED. Him and Orrin(tough guy on Sunday, wimp on Monday) Hatch.
Steve-what Rang Ho deservges is to have his PENSION revoked. That will get there attention.
In the spirit of gift giving this holiday season, I'd like to propose we re-gift Lugar to the Dems!
Excellent video. And it's 24 years old. Incredible. It definately applies even more so today.
“…there is no doubt that Lugar is a decent man and dedicated public servant…” Why does this kind of window dressing always show up when the offending Republican has never done anything good for the conservative cause?
In short, why pick a guy up, especially when you want him knock out before he does an “Arlen Specter flip to the left?”
Lugar is a member of Spooky Dude's Shadow Republican party…
I don't think term limits are needed. As the recent election shows, voters are perfectly capable of 'throwing the bums out'.
DUMP THAT DAMNED RINO!
http://theantiliberalzone.blogspot.com/2010/12/im...
The Anti Liberal Zone
Senator Marlin Stutzman. I like the sound of that.
All old time RINO's should retire gracefully and let the younger generations take over before they're primaried (I recently came across that word and like it a lot).
Lugar is 80 years old. The odds are high that he will not live through his next term. A republican will appoint a new senator. Unless we have a strong business owner who can walk, talk and chew gum, don't waste the ammo on this guy.
Most of, if not all, these RINO's are members of Spooky Dude's Shadow Republican party…
That has to include Linsey Graham of SC and Collins and Snowe of Maine.
And McCain is chairman.
One thing is clear……
It's a lead pipe cinch we need some other "fitness for office" test besides an EKG that shows a heart beat. After a decade or so, voters go all soft and mushy….sadly like we did with Reagan when it was evident to many that he was non compos mentis due to Altzheimer's in his last years of office.
If voters can't help but cast sympathy votes maybe term limits are a way to protect ourselves from doddering "old guys" who literally have to be carried around in a bucket from meeting to meeting and have porta potties next to their desks!
Seriously…..
I have to disagree. If you look at a Charlie Rangel, just forcing his Harlem constituents to choose between two unknown names would give them at least a chance to choose someone that might not screw them as bad.
Off topic: dims cook up yet another version of the nightmare act to shove down our throats…
http://michellemalkin.com/2010/12/01/document-dro...
Bingo.
"… thirty years in the Senate is enough."
He shouldn't need to be primaried, yet there seems to be a character flaw present in most incumbents. A great public servant would have stepped aside long ago.
compare with
When King George III of England heard that Washington was going to retire as Commander of the Continental Forces, he allegedly said, "If he does that, he will be the greatest man in the world."
We may not see that kind of greatness again, but knowing when to quit would be a start in the right direction.
"Guess what Lugar, your on the list to be replaced."
As far as I'm concerned, EVERYONE is on the "list to be replaced." Regardless of their tenure or political stance. If any of these people want to hold onto their position, they will have to EARN it.
I submit mclame, reid, boxer, and pelosi as the poster children for never to be reelected again.
Absolutely primary Lugar. He's my senator, but he's gone wobbly. Take a rest, sir, and let us move on to a more eager warrior. Please go home.
When RINO Season opens in 2012, Comrade Lugar’s ass will be in the crosshairs…
Bet on it..
Correct. I haven't cared for mcidiot and his self serving agenda for over twenty years. However, AZ, my home state, is great in spite of the Manchurian candidate and Grijalva of boycott fame.
Rangel's predecessor was hideously corrupt as well. Better politicians won't be generated by term limits, but by voters who demand that their elected reps live up to high standards.
I have doubts about people who spend us into oblivion with a smile. No honor amongst thieves and that is what it is theft.
Lugar is a progressive RINO.
What is is with these people? Take names and vote them out if up for re-election in 2012!!!
I'd say anyone named "Dick" needs to be challenged. But that's just me.
We should be out there canvassing for replacement right now. If we are going to transistion into a real political force, we need to sharpen our skills picking good quality Conservative candidates. It takes lots of work.
In Florida we took Marco Rubio from unknown to elected. It can be done. Choose carefully, support fully.
Excellent post.
My mother was a lifelong Hoosier and voted almost always for the GOP candidate–with very few exceptions. Back in the 80's, when Congress was considering even more taxes on tobacco in one of their misguided efforts to affect human behavior by use of the tax code, she wrote to Lugar voicing her objections to his support for the tax increase. He replied with a VERY arrogant letter, chiding her for being a smoker (she wasn't…she just didn't want smoking to be taxed in an effort to change smokers' minds…a gross misuse of the tax code.) and telling her that she should concentrate on stopping herself and maybe this cost increase might give her the incentive to do so. She was furious, to say the least, and, for the rest of her life voted for ANYONE who ran against Lugar. Her reply always was, "What business is it of HIS if ANYONE wants to use tobacco?"
We have to call them out, and dare them to deny it…
Me and P2O are restarting the old chat group, do you want in?
Hey John,
Me and P2O are restarting an old chat group, do you want in?
President Reagan NEVER stood for election after he was diagnosed with Altzheimer's, and he was NOT so diagnosed until 4 years AFTER he left the White House. Frankly, I'd match his mental acumen in 1989 against ANYONE who's run since from ANY Party.
Rangel's predecessor? Yeah what was that, 1950?
I understand that term limits won't change much. But if you want to wait for the "voters of Harlem" to "demand that their elected reps live up to high standards," you're waiting for a pipe dream. Maybe that district is lost for many generations, but there are plenty of other districts that aren't as poisonous as Harlem. For them, we may want to consider term limits.
Do a little research, and you'll find the trail leads to Soros…
BTW, isn't "lugar" another term for a giant glob of spit or snot? Just asking.
Yes Dick, it’s time to go.
That is it exactly, John. Nobody is off limits and their words mean little. ACTIONS are what count. They have to earn our vote with their record or be replaced by someone who demonstrates an understanding of what is needed. Voters have to handle this because it is our responsibility to handle it. It is our duty to handle it.
He has a new buddy thanks to Illinois.
Mark Kirk and John McCain are two peas in a pod.
If you want me in, I'm in.
I'll tell you one thing, this Indiana daughter will fight to get his butt on the road to retirement. His wife needs him home.
i submit Chuck "U" Schummer and Maurice Hinchey.
RINO: A species that should be hunted to extinction.
Lugar is long overdue at the Retirement Farm…He is killing Conservatives…Watch Bayh attempt to take Lugar's seat and keep it Progressive…Indiana is in the same boat as Illinois currently is..trying to rebirth without Thugs and Communist AzzzzBubbles….Indiana needs to remove Lugar, block Bayh and dump the Muslim Andre Carson. The northwest corner still holds democRapps and they need removal. Follow Illinois' lead…Illinois without Democrats will help America come back alive. Come on Indiana, you can do it, too. Follow Illinois…out of your democrat hole.
Nah, That's a Lugie.
Lugie: A chunk of snot with a certain viscosity or consistency which makes it able to be spit long distances as in "I just hucked a lugie on the window and it's really hanging in there…"
Wait a minute! I think you've got something there,,, the 34 year lugie!
McCain, Murkowski, Christ, Kirk. All are no different than Rahm Emmanuel.
Try living in Hell…………………………………..CA. CA just went "more" Progressive with this past election and elected MORE Democrats to office.
If not an EKG, but perhaps an EEG (electroencephalogram)…mouth breathing quasi functional brain stem bench warmers.
Sitting here looking out the window of my little cabin at a foot of snow, birds are in the feeder, the sun is out and glistening off the drifts. There are tracks leading off into the trees………………and I would be willing to bet even "those" lead to Soros.
or one of his people…
Just went out to put up a new Squirrelog…..should have put on a coat…
Yeah, I'm feeding the squirrels…..they don't crap on my car…
another new member of the Republican Shadow Party…
I agree, it is a long list. A few names have been added in bold type just this week.
This is somewhat related so hear me out folks.
I am a strong supporter of a Sarah Palin in 2012 however,……..
my biggest fear is that her entire presidency will be spent,………..
fighting off the Bush elitists and RINOS,……..
when she is not battling Lefty / Dems.
This Lugar story sorta reinforces a recent thought of mine,………..
mainly;…….. a Sarah Palin Republican Chairperson (instead of a presidency) for about four years,…….
would help install into the Republican Party roster a vast majority of,……..
Reagan / Palin / Rubio /Christies types.
By doing this, she may not be calling the shots in Washington, but,…………..
she sure would be training the shooters and,…….
the Dems /Lefties / MSM would not be able to touch her.
"……….Follow Illinois…out of your democrat hole. …………."
Are you sure you want to do that fadder,……??????
In May, 2006, Lugar Stock Farms, Inc., a farm owned by Senator Richard G. Lugar and his family, joined the Chicago Climate Exchange as a provider of tradable greenhouse gas emission Offsets.
From "Hoosier Daddy", Washington Monthly, Sept 2006:
"Old-school realist Richard Lugar, the five-term Republican senator from Indiana, has embraced new-school realist and rising star Barack Obama, the junior Democratic senator from Illinois. The relationship is admiring. 'I very much feel like the novice and pupil,' Obama has said of Lugar. And it's warm. Lugar praises Obama's 'strong voice and creativity' and calls him 'my good friend.' " … "Lugar, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, suggested that the younger senator aim for a seat on the committee," … "The two men grew closer in August of 2005, when Obama joined Lugar on a tour of Russia and Eastern Europe." … "Lugar and Obama introduced the American Fuels Act of 2006, an ambitious bill that would drive investment in biomass ethanol." … etc…
Senator Lugar is one of the faces of RINO/Entitlement Politics.
Their time has come and gone.
We must see to it that a real, Reagan conservative challenges Mr. Lugar for his Senate seat.
As they say, close enough for government work. Lugar or lugie seems about the same to me. He does seem to be or have been a chunk of yellowish, green spit or glob of snot – irritating, worthless, and a pain in the nose(pc word).
I do to. I want them fat, for a different reason.
OK, I'll see that and throw in a Lindsey Graham, a what's her face Feinstein and raise you a Stark and Waxman..
Not to be confused with a Luge, which actually accomplishes something.
"The time is near at hand which must determine whether Americans are to be free men or slaves."
George Washington
"Firearms are second only to the Constitution in importance; they are the peoples' liberty's teeth."
George Washington
Superb.
Let's hope it doesn't have to come to that…
I'll see your Graham with a David Peterson.
Unfortunately I'm running low on ante, NY has been tossing a bunch of these types out lately (a.k.a Spitzer and Bruno) but they've only replaces them with people as bad or worse.
Can you top an Andrew Cuomo?
Speaking of Boxer, I wish the General would have replied to her….
"Maam, I will call you Maam, because I am a Legal American Citizen, and it is MY right, Beotch!!!!
Nah, they don't want him anymore. He's done as their useful idiot since he got caught in the special VIP loan business. A successful dim never gets caught. That's why the dims(progressives) are also ready to hang out Rangel and Waters. They got caught with their hands and feet in the cookie jar..
Yup…..no bag limit…
That was my idea as well….
Sure. How many are in it?
lol
Papa,
I loved Reagan as much as any president we've ever had but as a physician I can assure you his dementia was evident long before he left office. Don't you really remember when suddenly this rugged individualist maverick man who listened but was managed by NOBODY suddenly started "issuing policy statements" or responding to the media through various others, even Nancy? Did you LISTEN to his Iran Contra testimony?
It's not a crime to become ill, but it's a travesty to "keep" people in office beyond their ability to competently execute their duties. Ever see "President Dave?" Well it should come as no surprise that many folks in gov't, congress and presidents, FDR?? have served beyond their years. I was just suggesting that term limits would give voters and even the people IN office an escape hatch with dignity while insuring the Rangel's and Lugers and, in my medical opinion another Senator currently serving who is clearly suffering from mental lapses, do NOT remain in power because we can't bear to vote them out after their long and illustrious careers.
This is so. Senator Lugar has gone way soft. He is my Senator as well. I can only hope that there is only one challenger when RINO season commences. More than one challenger has been mentioned locally. Otherwise he's in for another six years. We really need a better Senator…one that understands what happened in 11/10 and gets the battle we are waging.
Yep, I call with a CA moonbeam.
"After a decade or so, voters go all soft and mushy….sadly like we did with Reagan when it was evident to many that he was non compos mentis due to Altzheimer's in his last years of office."
The Senate is the perfect place for him to hide out. He will not attract attention.
IMO….
Just her motivational abilities alone would keep them in check. I'm also of the belief that she shouldn't run for President. They'd never give it a rest and it would be a daily distraction. And this country doesn't need unnecessary issues right now. It needs focus and hard work to earn our respect back. She's actually more powerful where she is but as you suggested CR and acknowledged Deuse, a chairmanship would be right up her ally……
I concede. As bad as NY is I can't top that one with out going back in history, and they're already dead.
Note that pose by the poser……
He's showing everyone how he got 12 stitches on his lip. (I wonder what it was like to be Decerega's elbow that day….probably pretty cool…)
Sadly true. In fact there is another Senator with overt signs of dementia. Watched him on several interviews, one with Greta in which even SHE got visibly uncomfortable when he totally lost his train of thought several times and kept starting the same sentence over and over but never did finish. Finally she finished it for him and he looked at her like she was from planet Zarquan and said absolutely not, lol!
Yup and that's just the two I've had an opportunity to see enough times to know the lights are on but nobody's home.
That's true you have six of a kind in Moonbeam, waxman, feinstein, stark, pelosi, and boxer. I forget who you new AG and state sec are. Not to worry though. BO will bail CA out; he needs the votes in 2012.
Doesn't matter. The progressives will see that they vote anyway.
Senator Lugar will be forced to campaign. It's all about the organization and unity of the challenger. If there is more than one challenger the incumbent wins. Many of the would-be challengers were mentored at one time or other by Senator Lugar. A lot of talent will sit this one out.
I actually received a copy of the Grace Commission Report shortly after it was published. Peter Grace was a friend of the owner of the company where I worked- Mr. Grace even had his secretary call to make sure I received the report and I was only a mid-level manager at that time. If you look at the top of the first page, you will see that the projected deficit assumption- without doing anything is very accurate compared to what we have today. Unfortunately things are worse than predicted, but we all know that.
Enjoy http://www.uhuh.com/taxstuff/gracecom.htm
Maybe he will do like Chris Dodd and get out while the gettings good. He needs to be replaced. All RINOs need to be ousted on their sorry cans out into the cold. And their memories spit upon.
Richard Lugar arrogance and self delusion were in full bloom when he ran for President. He posed himself as some kind of foreign policy genius/savior. It's hard to know what Hoosiers see in him. I see a Soviet era member of the Politboro, except that his gig is in Washington, DC. Someone should get him some Geritol, or embalming fluid.
This is disgusting.
Even so, he was most assuredly NOT non compos mentis during the 1984 elections. He made the Democrat challengers look like complete idiots during the debates. He MAY have had the beginnings of dementia during the Iran Contra hearings. All I remember of them was that he said, "I don't recall" a lot—but then, so did Hillary Clinton when SHE was questioned by a Senate investigating committee, too, so that doesn't mean much. His farewell letter (which HE wrote, by the way) was the most poignant, moving letter I've ever read. Someone deep in the clutches of dementia simply could NOT have written it, and it was written in 1989.
Does kind of rhyme with booger, however.
Step 2 in taking back the country is removing RINO's.
2012 is just a blink away.
He voted for Kagan.
Dan Burton is almost as useless.
Andre Carson is the new up and coming poster child for term limits.
As I said in another post, I have a campaign donation check ready for whoever his conservative opponent is in the primary.
A conservative president sitting in the White House and,….
a conservative maker in the chairman's seat.
As I said before, I hope Marlin Stutzman runs for this seat. He was the Tea Party favorite that came in second to Coats this past election cycle. Coats will return to the Senate, replacing Evan Bayh. He was fortunately able to keep Mark Souder's old seat Republican when he resigned due toinfidelity issues. I voted for Marlin in the primary, and I hope he runs for the seat currently held by the aging Lugar.
too bad you can't eat the meat or do anything with the fur.
