Reason.tv: Interview with Reason Cartoonist Peter Bagge
by Reason TVPeter Bagge is the pre-eminent libertarian cartoonist. An intelligent, anti-authoritarian streak runs throughout his canon, especially in his hit comic book from the 1990s, HATE , a hilarious and politically incorrect series focusing on the semi-autobiographical slacker-misanthrope Buddy Bradley. Bagge frequently contributes his own brand of “cartoon journalism” to the pages of Reason magazine where he also serves as a Contributing Editor.
Bagge discusses how he came to define his libertarian political worldview at a young age, and laments his frustration at being an artist who’s political views are frequently mischaracterized as “right wing” by other artists, simply for failing to be in lock-step with the rest of the predominatly progressive-left art world.
He also discusses a recent Reason assignment which took him within the walls of a women’s prison, and how the experience led him to question his own preconceived notions about the drug war and involuntary incarceration for drug users.
His funny, outrageous and often introspective anthology of Reason cartoon journalism, “Everyone is Stupid Except Me (And Other Astute Observations)” is available from Fantagraphics.

Love this guy's stuff.
I feel pessimistic about what's coming next too….
When I want a "picture" and not "1000" words, I take Pete Bagge..
I love P Bagge. I was reading Hate back in high school in 1993 and followed him ever since. He turned me on to some other funny and great cartoonists like Johnny Ryan.
I'm just amused at how un-liberal the so called elite Libs are that they can't, or perhaps won't is a better word, even recognize a true liberal like Bagge when they see one.
I can live with a true liberal. Its these useful idiots, like Garafalo, or Maddow, that are irreconcilable.
Ron Paul and supporters are ground zero for this movement.
Paragraph 2, line 2: "…frustration at being an artist who’s political views are frequently mischaracterized…"
Of course, it should be "whose," not "who's."
Perhaps we should spell it "hooze," and use it interchangeably, so as to relieve Big Government contributors of the burden of looking over a piece before publishing it.
