The Green Regulation Machine: Saving the Planet or Killing Jobs?

“The State of California says my trucks are killing people,” says Whitney. “What do you say to that?”
In a few years, new air quality regulations approved by the California Air Resources Board will render Whitney’s entire fleet illegal.
“New CARB rules are putting me out of business,” he says.
CARB claims that diesel particulates, a type of pollution emitted from buses and trucks, contributes to 2,000 premature deaths in California each year. But UCLA epidemiologist Dr. James Enstrom says the number should be closer to zero.
In 2005 Enstrom authored an extensive study that found no relationship between diesel particulates and premature deaths. He says his study, as well as other evidence that agrees with it, have been ignored by an agency bent on passing ever more stringent regulations regardless of their effect on California’s economy.
Enstrom blew the whistle on CARB for, among other things, failing to publicize that the lead author of the study that was used to justify the new regulations falsified his education history (he purchased his PhD from an online diploma mill).
But UCLA didn’t come to Enstrom’s defense. In fact, officials informed him that, after 34 years at the university, he was out of a job.
“The environmental regulation machine in powerful in California,” says Adam Kissel of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education, which is defending Enstrom in the fight to keep his job. “When Dr. Enstrom went up against that machine he was retaliated against.”
A hearing that begins on April 4 will determine whether Dr. Enstrom keeps his job, and the final decision rests with UCLA Chancellor Gene Block.
Says Kissel, “If Dr. Enstrom loses his job because he exercised his academic freedom, then it’s a message to other researchers that you’d better not rock the boat because you might be next.”

Big Green = Big Rip-off.
It's a Money Maker for Flaming Liberals…… and a new way for Government to take over the lives of Citizens.
If Liberals cared so much for Human Life they would not rip the babies out of their Mothers and toss them in the trash.
Since the small impact man has on the environment is supposed to be so bad, every time I hear of a volcano becoming active I cringe, expecting mass fatalities all over the globe. You see, a volcano has MUCH more impact that man does. When nothing happens, I feel so let down. They must be lying.
Progressive Spain went green, and now, the people are suffering.
Going Green costs more than not going Green. Most people can't afford it and now since alot are out of jobs, they're more concerned about keep the roofs over their heads, food on the table , their vehicles running and making sure that their kids' clothes are good to go for school. So, as of right now, going Green isn't the priority for most people.
Green is the new "red".
Anything green that is not supported in the marketplace MUST go on the ash heap of history like the old Soviet Union, Berlin Wall, and ObamaCare.
Liberals tell us they are all about choice. OK…..I chose oil, nat gas, nuclear, and coal.

Obama stifles energy production, then uses the manufactured shortage as a rationale for the green economy. That benefits corporate cronies like GE. In return, they contribute big bucks to his campaign, and own Obama lapdogs NBC and CNBC. Finally the economy suffers as a result of all this, which provides fodder for left wing radicals to stir social unrest.
It's a virtuous cycle…if you're a marxist radical.
This is not Obama incompetence. His "fundamental transformation" is to demolish America like a wrecking ball, and expand leftist power in the process.

Green energy is decades away, and only half of it is viable. How are those toxic mercury light bulbs, and electric cars working out?
I like clean aire and clean water. Some of the concepts are good, but they have to be phased in over decades. Not made into the PAY DAY for the entire Socialist Democrat Party! No. Meanwhile we can't drill, or cut down lumber or develop our resources? Stop the insanity; fire the Dems! Start with obama, Reid, Pelosi and Holder !
The science is settled. Yes, that's right, settled. We've settled on the scientific fact that the global-warming alarmists LIED and manipulated the data. Sure, clean, renewable energy is desirable, but until the socialists get out of the market and let market forces work, it will never be economical. As long as there is a tax credit, or a tax incentive, there is no reason to make green energy affordable.
The EPA is responsible for more deaths than all the wars combined. For example DDT, scientists said they would eat it, no scientific proof it was harmful in any way. Banned, and countless people have died. The car emissions decrease caused auto makers to make little more than tin cans on wheels, countless deaths. Green energy does not work. It is just a way to get votes and pander to the left and weed out the human population.
But the people here know that they are smarter and can 'learn' from the mistakes of the Spanish. Of course the goal of a Green Eeconomy isn't about jobs it is about control of the economy and the people so to some the Spanish plan was a success.
It's really nice that Liberals want to save the planet and everything. But they all seem to forget, the Saviors name is Jesus Christ, not Al Gore. ALL of these green technologies are being forced on us, because there is a lot of money to be made. Plus the power they can gain over your life is incredible, just pass environmental laws to control the citizens of America. That's really the end game here. This is also Obama's way around the Constitution.
If the Greenies' argument is that our pollution is causing climate change and it's killing people; shouldn't our argument be that their policies are killing more people than pollution and causing mass suffering. Of course, expecting those looney tunes to listen to or understand reason is probably a long shot.

When will the EPA regulate pigeons?
"Pigeon Droppings can contain e-coli bacteria. An artical in Northampton's Daily Hampshire Gazette of Oct. 29,1999. The town of Belchertown, MA had a boil water order. The reason was pigeon droppings washed into towns water tower and test prove that the droppings contained E.coli."
"An estimated 2,000 people a year in Britain are catching infections from wild pigeons, which carry up to 60 diseases. In five years the number of pigeons in British towns and cities is estimated to have doubled."
A population "bomb"?
"Tony Higginbotham, 32, who works for a pest control company, contracted a bacterial disease from pigeon droppings. "I was wearing full protective equipment but I still got it. I had flu-like symptoms and headaches, couldn't stand the light and was off my food," he said. "I was off work for almost a month, but it was six months before I was 100% again."

"Dr Gideon du Marchie Sarvaas, who treated the family, said: "The fire escape at the back would get pigeon debris on it and was cleaned regularly by the mother and one child at a time. Frankly, I though Stink Eyes's little story was one of the best metaphors of statism I've ever seen, because it will briefly fool many thinking persons, who will then grasp its truth, once they realize they've been had, and be fairly PO'ed.
It's also understandable, because there are so many Obamabots out there, who will read this, praise Obama for his beneficence, and repeat the fiction as if it were fact. Sometimes it hard to tell who's playing dumb, and who's just plain dumb.
I'm much more concerned with a sustainable economy. As long as the natural human inclination toward selfishness is efficiently guided to cooperation and service through the mechanisms of capitalism, the dollars (or turnips) will, as they say, take care of themselves.

With the collapse of the USSR, the communists thrashed around trying to find a home. They found one. This reminds me of when I used to live in California: I was replacing an engine in a 1983 Pontiac Trans Am that I had as a weekend project/fun car, and I had a choice between a direct replacement, 1983 engine (Older, higher-polluting carbureted technology), and a 1994 engine (much lower polluting, much more efficient fuel injected technology).
The C.A.R.B. rules meant that I could drop in the 1983, higher-polluting engine without any inspection whatsoever, aside from the smog check. The higher-polluting engine would only have to pass the (higher) 1983 pollution levels. But if I wanted to drop-in a much cleaner-running 1994 engine, I would have to take my car in for several inspections, and pay several hundred dollars in fees, fill out massive amounts of paperwork, wait weeks for authorization, etc.
So in that case, C.A.R.B. penalized people for wanting to pollute less, and gave people an incentive to pollute more.
Now you know why 5 years ago, I went over the wall and got out of California.
