Politics, Not Science, Drove White House to Release Rosy Gulf Oil Report
by Robert BlueyThe National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s controversial report on the Gulf oil spill was not finished when the White House chose to release it, a government scientist told congressional investigators.

The Obama administration hyped the estimates at an Aug. 4 press briefing with White House energy czar Carol Browner and NOAA Administrator Jane Lubchenco. The report immediately sparked controversy among scientists for the rosy projection that three-quarters of the oil in the Gulf of Mexico had disappeared.
Bill Lehr, a senior scientist at NOAA and an author of the report, told congressional investigators that data supporting the study is still unavailable and the peer review remains unfinished. Lehr also said the decision to release the report was made by the White House, not the government’s lead science agency for oil spills.
A spokesman for NOAA did not respond to a request for comment.
Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), ranking member on the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, called it irresponsible for the administration to release the report before it was done.
This is yet another in a long line of examples where the White House’s preoccupation with the public relations of the oil spill has superseded the realities on the ground. It is deeply troubling that White House officials apparently preempted the completion and review of a scientific study on the oil spill by NOAA scientists in order to tout conclusions that many experts believe may be deeply flawed.
The government report instantly made headlines for the astonishing conclusion that approximately 75 percent of the oil had been collected, burned, skimmed or simply disappeared. Given the magnitude of the spill — the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history — some scientists concluded it was premature to draw such conclusions.
Another independent study released this week estimated as much as 79 percent of the oil remains in the Gulf, beneath the water’s surface.
Lehr’s admission that the peer review wasn’t completed in advance of the report’s release undermines the administration’s claim that it was. In fact, his boss at NOAA first made the statement at the White House’s Aug. 4 briefing.
“The report was produced by scientific experts from a number of different agencies, federal agencies, with peer review of the calculations that went into this by both other federal and non-federal scientists,” Lubchenco said.
Browner, who would go on NBC’s “Meet the Press” days later to trumpet the report, echoed Lubchenco’s comments.
“This has all been — as Dr. Lubchenco said — been subjected to a scientific protocol, which means you peer review, peer review and peer review,” Browner said. “You look at what the inputs are. You look at what the models are. All of this has been made available.”

What a surprise. Yesterday dear leader signed an Executive Order to seize power over the management of Ocean and water resources. http://bit.ly/ccGQlc I'm sure they will apply the same great stewardship that they applied to the Gulf crisis.
"Politics, Not Science, Drove White House to Release Rosy Gulf Oil Report" Really??? Say it ain't so!!! And here I thought our government had our best interests at heart.. I feel so used.
CBO and OMB live in fantasy land just look at the recent 10 year budget projections…
Nobody in their right mind running a business does "hard budgeting" ten years out but whoever said the Chairman or his henchmen were in their right minds…
So they lied…again, and when the truth comes out in the forest of MSM is there any sound??
These are the same people who now are trying to claim global warming is causing global cooling. Of course there's no science. It's religious zealotry fueled by piss and hate, the trademark of liberal philosophy.
The trouble is now BP can collect just the amount of Oil that the Government said went into the Gulf, and just call it a day.
A very wise scientist told me, "Nothing in science is proven. The nature of science is to challenge our knowledge regarding hypothesis. We as scientists always look for ways to qualify and quantify what we think we know. This is why we have made the strides we have."
I always defer to this when I hear someone say, "Let me be clear."
It just disappeared……….
Amazing how the environmental fringe just accepted that without any challenge or request for proof.
No comment about such a ridiculous statement from the global warming loon Al Gore?
o…it disappeared?..o..okay…..if you say so…….hey why dont we jump in our private jets and go see what that mean Sarah Palin is up to………………………..
Drill baby drill….Sarah Palin Rocks…………….
Elections have consequences and the first consequence of liberal government is always the truth.
Bumbling, stumbling, fumbling white house. Now, if only commie "O" can disappear!
The lefties are giving Obama a pass on this for their deluded passionate version of the Greater Good. Look for a push for Cap & Trade to reduce our standard of living to improve War Lords standards in the 3rd World Nations.
The reason they do this is because science cannot presently get a handle on things like the environment. Leave it to Obama and the dems to exploit it to their kleptocracy's end.
Watch what "he" does, not what he says….. tells you all you need to know. Full time campaign mode 24/7.
"….told congressional investigators that data supporting the study is still unavailable and the
peer review remains unfinished."
Could we be waiting for Dr Mann from E Anglia U to be available to add his special touch?:-D
.
Sort of sounds like the Clinton era:
"The President has kept all of the promises he intended to keep." – George Stephanopolous, 1996
And as an added bonus, Stephanopolous now has a cushy job in the MSM.
Since when does a Communist care about truth?
Somebody wake me up when something really unusual hits the news… Like "White House tells the Truth!… Breaking story at 11 PM"
ps. His over the top use of Air Force One is probably causing more damage to the environment than the Gulf Spill.
Where the HELL WAS CONGRESS WHEN OBAMA JUST SNITCHED ANOTHER POWER AWAY?
At this rate….since they appear quite happy to let Obama just take what he wants, how bout we PARE CONGRESS DOWN SINCE THEY AREN'T EVEN WORKING AND IT EVIDENTLY ONLY TAKES TWO SENATORS PERIOD TO PASS A MAJOR SPENDING BILL.
SEND THE F'ERS HOME IF THEY AREN'T GONNA WORK.
btw, tucon, it's DATED JULY 19, 2010? And apparently if you read this thread, congress was aware of it but got no answer. Why did Republicans NOT TELL US ABOUT THIS? WHAT'S IN IT FOR THEM?
When it fits his agenda…which ain't often!
"The Obama administration hyped the estimates…"
Come on guys.
Is this really a surprise?
I'm stupid and even I realize this administration is nothing but an add campaign.
People bought into this Mountain Dew commercial of a president and now we have to pay for it.
Right. I've had enough of all Caesars and their executive orders. I've had enough of the executive branch and it's century of imperial expansion. The executive branch is out of control. This isn't just Obama.
This shit needs fixing.
It's been renamed by executive order to "Air Force The One".
This bunch of losers have to go! I can't believe these people are allowed to even pretend they're doing their jobs! NO thanks to all the idiots who voted this guy in.
This water control thing will be the straw that breaks the camels back, here in the SW, where
there would be NO industry or farming happening without water rights. The West half of Texas
up through Eastern Colorado, Western Kansas, Nebraska and the Dakotas will become a vast
wasteland. This is where the wheat for your bread is grown folks. This is were the corn is raised
to feed the cattle and hogs for your beef and bacon. Without the ability to irrigate and raise hi-yield
crops we will experience at least a minimum of forty percent drop in food quantity.
But you don't think this will affect you, do you? WRONG, buffalo breath!
These eco-freakin-nuts have the US consumer by the testicles courtesy of this EO yesterday and
we are talking about a gawd-damn f#( I( in mosque at GZ, are we INSANE? No issue or group of
issues is more important than WATER RIGHTS. The speculation over secession will arise again.
The LONE STAR State will not bow to any other authority on water issues.
This is what we mean when we say always watch out for what the other hand is doing!
BTW, thanx insolublog for the link
.
.
cornpone,
which congressional investigators knew about this BEFORE it just BECAME LAW? I'd like to, uh, DISCUSS WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE their dereliction of duty!
And why they hall hasn't congress just DEFUNDED THIS along with every other air head EO obama cranks out like King George the Arrogant?????
Our Fed Govt & BP have a love/hate relationship. When things were good, they were lining each others pockets. When things went bad, partly because our Fed Govt minerals mining division did not do their job either, they began to blame ea other. Both are at fault. Who do I trust LEAST?….. OUR OWN Federal CORRUPT marxism Government!
Why? because any Administration that, week after week ROBS our Treasury & plunges U.S. into $13Trillion in debt is out to DESTROY THE United States of America (Cloward & Piven!) Get the Marxists out of our White House!
I like that one rain.
Dr. Mann (may he be cursed with bed bugs) works at Penn State. You know, the university that used to have a firm basis in scientific principles…
Interesting article here.
Further interesting was I watched Glen beck last night, and his material was thought provoking as well. He was talking about when Government, Commerce, Religion and Science mix, there are problems.
About the only thing missing in the Gulf disaster, to totally blur the lines, is a TV evangelist preacher in a lizard skin suit, selling snake oil. Or was that James Carville……………………..?
I suppose you're speaking of the water issue since you mention the EO. We in agriculture knew
this was a possibility all through the current session. We had been hearing rumors and BS threats
that it would be hidden in one of those huge bills Congress has become so fond of. I think that
after 'shopping it around' for a host bill o finally became worried about the politics getting too hot.
There may be more EO's we learn of when someone/anyone begins to dig.
I'm so damn infuriated I'm ready to stomp the dog (thank goodness I no longer have one), so I will
be contacting my Congressman, Randy Neugebauer TX-19 to ask many questions when I calm
down sufficiently to formulate them. Right now all I can think of is "You dumbass, why did you not
raise HELL about this EO". That prolly wouldn't go over very well, we can get more action from
calm reasoned outrage than we can from name-calling and blowing off steam.
.
They think we are stupid and can't read all the reports that are out on the internet about the water in the gulf.
Obama, BP and the lying socialists all know that the waters will never be the same. This rig explosion was a mastermind "crisis" in coordination with everything else to destroy this country. I'm sorry, but 2012 will be too late. Enough political correctness, enough civilized opposition. These monsters have to be removed form office before the next convenient "crisis".
Mountain Dew commercial of a president! There's been a few really good new one-liners here today.
Beck needs to add another area to the four. It should be: Government, Commerce, Religion, Science and Media. Without the media colluding with the other sectors it's hard to pull this BS on the American public. Applies now and was applicable since before the founding.
And Carville doesn't wear a lizard skin suit, that's his real skin.
OK, I've read the damn thing now twice and it seems to exempt, by omission interior water sources.
We all know how we may rely on what SEEMS to be, from these power-grabbing b@$t@rd$. i am
sure they plan to revisit the matter and exert control over ALL water at their earliest opportunity.
Everyone should click that link and read the EO.
IT IS AN ENVIRONMENTALISTS WACK-O'S WET DREAM !
Sounds to me like the Fed Gov't may be requiring us to obtain a permit to go to the beach or use
the coastal waters for sporting. It's just an absolute nightmare. I began making a list of quotes
to include in my comment here, but as it turned out I was quoting the entire thing as it is a damn
mine-field in it's entirety. It is so full of buzz-words I feel like Winnie-the-Pooh now.
C F ALERT
.
Thanx LG, that story was 'cold' in my mind, therefor I should have resisted naming anyone.
No, LG I was not aware of Penn States "firm basis in scientific principles". Here in TX we
know little of Eastern Univ's, other than their football programs.
.
Hey…..my daughter is in Neugebauer's district, cornpone.
They live just outside of Big Spring on a small spread off Colorado Hwy. Son in law raises goats down there for 4H. He teaches it in high school, daughter teaches kindergarten at the local elementary. Small world, eh.
She likes Neugebauer….says every time she calls about an issue he's been very helpful and he also puts out a news letter to keep folks apprised. So it's totally fair to ask him why nobody heard from him about that, especially if you get his news letter.
Knowing does not appear to be helping us out since we only find out about it AFTER THE FACT.
Where the hell is congress? Why are we payin these clowns? They clearly have abdicated.
That said I'm sure my call to Grijalva will make ooodles of difference on this EO. Just ooodles. He's such a little patriot.
This White House needs to understand that the people who are always in favor of his policies will remain that way. Most of the rest of us know what propaganda is, and we see it with nearly every word from this administration. This surely is not what Oblowhard meant when he said he would be transparent.
We better make the price of our votes a signature on a declaration promising to do NOTHING IN THE LAME DUCK SESSION THAT ISN'T ESSENTIAL TO RUNNING GOV'T AS IT WAS ON ELECTION DAY OR TILL JAN WE WILL BE HIT WITH THESE EO'S RIGHT AND LEFT.
HELL AT THIS RATE HE CAN EO THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION AWAY AND NOBODY WILL EVEN HEAR ABOUT IT FOR A YEAR!
They really think us some kind of stupid.
AT THE RATE HE'S USING IT IT SHOULD BE CALLED SHUTTLE ONE.
Another frikkin vacation???
What are the American people THINKING to give him a pass on this during the worst economic crisis in decades???? His rating is 40% so where the hell is the SHOUTING 60%?????
sheeple…..is still comes down to sheeple.
Go to his site and look at that gerrymandered-all-to-HELL district map, it's a hoot.
Hey if I find myself in need of a 4-H goat I'll look them up.
Yep Randy also holds tele-town-halls fairly regularly. I love to play 'stump Randy' in those
forums. We certainly are fortunate to have him as he is straight line conservative. I have
yet to find an issue we don't see eye-to-eye. He could be a tad more assertive would be
my only criticism.
Hey you do realize they are down there in Mikatollah's neck of the woods? HA, HA, HA
.
.
"Mysteriously disappeared" now thats science I can believe in! I wondered what was going to happen as they were using that dispersant at the well head. The subsurface cloud of microscopic oil droplets down 3,000ft and spreat out 20 x 60 miles (we don't know how thick it is) isn't breaking down as fast as they assumed (Ass + U + me) it would. My guess is because of the extremely low terperature 3,000ft down but I'm just guessing (Like Oblabla is). The good news is it's far enough down and out to sea not to be a problem with the fish they assume (Ass + U + me).
Thanks White House for that inspiring message of "We need something good to report" even if you had to make it up! I am adding this to my read again on 1 Nov. list.
I missed last nights Beck, but it sounds like a continuation of Wed's show. Did you see Wed's
Beck? I thought of you, as well as my spouses forebears all through that Wed show. It was
powerful.
.
The "independent" report came from an environmental organization wholly committed to the idea of man-made global warming. The report seems to be filled with "could"s and "suggests" judging by the descriptions of the report given in the media.
The fact is that the spill amounted to about 2 to 3 million barrels oil. That sounds huge until you realize that the Gulf has so much oil that somewhere around 1 million barrels seeps into the Gulf every year naturally. Obviously, since the oil does not accumulate in the Gulf there must be processes that eliminate it. So it doesn't appear so crazy that much of the oil has already been removed by those natural processes.
The administration was using the "catastrophe" to push for cap and trade as well as a cessation of oil drilling in the Gulf. It really wasn't in the interests of the administration to downplay the effects of the oil spill.
Just because the Obama administration is one of the most dishonest gang of Mussolini wannabes to come along in years doesn't mean that everything they say is wrong, although we have every reason to suspect ulterior motives for everything they do.
Oil in the Gulf of Mexico is important to America. If the worst disaster caused by the most inept and careless oil company on the planet had little long term damage then there is no excuse to keep the drilling ban.
To make things worse, the "new" ACORN is now running the $$$ compensation fund. SHOCKING report at:
http://spnheadlines.blogspot.com/2010/06/new-acor...
Peace!
I saw part of becks Wednesday show, and part of yesterday's. I hope to see it all today.
The Indian Mounds that Beck was talking about on Wednesday, in Newark, Ohio? I've been there a number of years ago. All through that country, and up and down the Ohio River Valley, there are those mounds. Beck did some good research.
I saw a documentary on those mounds and their similarities to the Asian mounds many
moons ago. Wish it would be re-aired as the details have gone cold in my mind.
"Good research" but not sufficient time devoted to quench my thirst. In another life I would
have been an archaeologist.

I M P E A C H M E N T
SORRY FOR THE ALL CAPS BUT I'M TRYING TO CATCH YOUR EYE.
I JUST GOT OFF THE PHONE WITH SEN KYL ABOUT THE EXECUTIVE ORDER DEALING WITH US COASTAL WATER ETC, THAT OBAMA SIGNED JULY 19.
EXECUTIVE ORDERS ARE NOT LAW, AND SIGNING THEM MEANS NOTHING. THEY ARE A PRESIDENTIAL WISH LIST. WHAT OBAMA WOULD LIKE TO SEE DONE. NOTHING MORE.
SEN KYL SAID HE DOES NOT THINK THIS PARTICULAR ONE, AND FRANKLY MOST OF OBAMA'S EOS WILL EVEN MAKE IT ONTO THE CONGRESSIONAL CALENDAR.
IF FOR ANY REASON THEY MAKE IT TO THE CALENDAR THEY WILL STILL HAVE TO GO THROUGH EVERY RELEVANT COMMITTEE AND BE PASSED BY A MAJORITY OF BOTH HOUSES.
THEN CONGRESS STILL HAS TO FUND THEM AND CBO HAS TO SCORE THEM.
IF THE LAME DUCK SESSION PASSES ALL OF THE EOS OBAMA HAS WRITTEN SINCE HE WAS IN OFFICE, THE NEW CONGRESS WILL SIMPLY TAKE THEM ONE BY ONE AND ANYTHING LIKE THIS WATER PLAN THEY WILL JUST DEFUND, SO UNLESS FOLKS WANT TO DO NOTHING FOR NO PAY, THESE AGENCIES WILL NOT SEE THE LIGHT OF DAY, EVER.
NO NEED TO WASTE OUR TIME WORRYING ABOUT EOS TILL ONE BECOMES A SEN OR HOUSE BILL.
heck ya'll all probably know each other, lol.
I hate it that we have to be so anonymous on the web for fear of hackers. Hell you could be right next door to my kids and we'd never know it, bwahaha.
look for my all caps post on the next page. wish we had known this SOONER. we're jumpin through hoops callin congress, our heads are exploding all for nothing if it's just an EO.
OH….AND THAT BILL THAT TWO SENATORS PASSED THE OTHER DAY…..ANOTHER OUTRAGE WE ALL RAISED HECK ABOUT……
HERE'S THE DEAL ON THAT ONE.
SENATE ORIGINATED A SPENDING BILL. BAD BAD SENATE. SO THEY PASSED IT WITH 100 VOTES AND SENT IT OVER TO THE HOUSE. THE HOUSE, IN ORDER TO MAKE IT LEGAL, HAD TO TWEEK IT IN A COUPLE OF PLACES. THEY DID SO AND SENT IT BACK PASSED BY THE HOUSE.
SINCE IT PASSED BY EVERYONE IN THE SENATE, THE TWEEKS WERE SENT TO SENATORS WHO FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THEM SO BY PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE RULES TWO COULD PASS IT, OR ONE FOR THAT MATTER……
LONG STORY SHORT IT WAS APPROVED BY EVERY SENATOR, SO THIS WAS JUST A TECHNICAL DOTTING OF THE I'S AND CROSSIN THE T'S.
SOOOOO…….WE WERE PLAYED ONCE AGAIN BY MEDIA, THIS TIME FOX, WHO MADE A HUGE DEAL THAT TWO SENATOR'S PASSED A BILL WHEN REALLY THE WHOLE SENATE EVEN REPUBS APPROVED IT.
I'M GETTIN SICK OF THIS "LET'S SEE IF WE CAN MAKE THEIR HEADS EXPLODE AGAIN" MEDIA RATINGS GAME. REALLY SICK. WE GOT ENOUGH ON OUR PLATE.
SO MSM…..YOU CRY "WOLF" ONCE MORE AND I'M NOT GONNA LISTEN.
THAT'S ALL I FOUND OUT ON THESE TWO THINGS SO FAR. SHUTTIN UP NOW, LOL!
We're further North, between Lubbock and Amarillo Stomp.
I was slowly gathering tiny tid-bits on that troll and was planning to do some p. i.
as Gabby Hays would say.
on him when he vanished, dag-nab-it;
.
.
Keep repeating the lie that so called "climate-gate" disproves global warming. You might get a few more prople to buy in.
Thank You, TS.
LOL……
My favorite one was, "Well cut mah legz off an call me Shorty1"
good ole gabby.
Hey, Fox is on my shit list now too. First there was the Steve Centani report on the 'teacher' bail
out as he phrased it. Not the teacher RETIREMENT fund bailout as it should more accurately be
described, which will ultimately become an o slush fund for his 012 campaign.
Then there was the Loren Greene report a couple of mornings ago, defending o's Christianity, as
if she worked directly FOR the White House. Didn't see her skinny little ass dissecting the cult
called Black Liberation Theology during o's campaign, where the HELL was she then? That was
all left to Hannity to handle. She's spose to be the Fox Religion Correspondent, WTH?
Won't surprise me if we find out Fox has had FED Govt 'minders' on sight for some time, some day.
.
No worries, Boris,
I'm just furious we don't KNOW more about how this stuff works so we won't jump at every piece of chum that floats by. It ain't like we're not kinda busy vetting candidates and getting ready for primaries!
Natasha
)))
It also ain't like Fox News shouldn't know better than to report inaccurately too, although
I must say Stomp once that EO has been created it lies around DC forever waiting for some
nut-job to resurrect it. Maybe we need a good house cleaning in DC with a big bon-fire on
the east lawn just so some of this shit never again sees the light of day.
Disclaimer;
I onecornpne do not advocate torching DC.
.
I wish I could say it was 'my pleasure', but as you can see there is no pleasure in it.
Yeh Fox is gettin jiggy, frankly. But then Rupert's in bed with Bloomberg et al so what do we expect.
As for the EOs if they don't make muster, just like bills that fail, the all hang around lookin for a toe hold. The only remedy is good people with a sharp eye out.
That's why READ THE BILL and POST ANY BILL ONLINE 72 HOURS BEFORE IT'S VOTED ON are the best watchdogs we can have. Especially posting it on line. That puts MILLIONS of eyes on every bill without makin us all have to micromanage everything we PAY these clowns to do.
Rush said the oil spill was much ado about nothing, Bobby. Are you some kind of a durned Commie?
ocp, we need a TV backup to Fox News. Mr. Murdoch won't live forever, some of the Murdoch "kids" are big-time Libs, and a Saudi prince is supposed to be a big investor.
Agree TR, perhaps AB will be able to launch something by then. Someone posted about the
Saudi's involvement and it wasn't as extensive as I had imagined. Of course I don't mean to
imply they have no influence, but the percentage ownership was much less than I feared.
To tell the truth I've pretty well quit FNC anyway. Everything they air I've already read here
or heard on radio through the day.
.
I've said it before, and I will say it again. The candidate we field can run on nullifying every EO and piece of legislation touched by this regime. Landslide potential if we get someone with a set.
or "The science is settled".
Well this fiasco does show us one very important point. If government cannot manage one incident like this, how can we expect them to stop some supposed global warming? A global incident is many orders of magnitude bigger than the gulf incident. With this fiasco track record why are we to expect throwing billions at the gov to deal with AGW is somehow going to fix the problem?
Isn't that the truth! You just know the news shows scour these sites for their stories.
Rush seems to be taken with the "nature took care of it" way of thinking about the oil spill, but right away I thought something was up. I was surprised he of all people didn't see the angle that was being played. It is the mainstream media's goal to ensure this is not "Obama's Katrina". By making the oil spill no big deal, then it's not a disaster, thus it's no big deal how Obama handled it.
Good Lord TR…….3:12AM?…….Insomnia much?:-D…….
Agree with your point above, they all use the same sources, several of our Bigs brothers
and sisters mention multiple sites they read for news. I just don't know how they find the
time? Evidently I'm a slow study, I can only manage to watch the CBOT corn pit trading
and the Bigs. I have almost all our projected corn production contracted now so I need
to get on with some canning and other work around here before corn harvest begins.
We have 'maters as far as the eye can see, so it's salsa making time.
This corn market strength is very unusual for this time of year, it's usually stagnant in
August. I jumped out of the chute a little early price wise in this recent surge, so I'm hold-
ing on to the tail end trying to hit the yearly high. It's VEGAS baby, and I'm white knuck-
leing now, actually more of a pride thing on my part, which usually causes pain in the
end. But I'm a grown-up, I'll cowboy up if I get it wrong. If this $#!t goes up to $5/BU,
I'll be one depressed heifer, since I started contracting at $4.
We have some corn that is showing to have been pushed along to maturity much more
..
quickly than is normal, by the warmer and more humid nighttime temps we had in June.
Normally we cool off to low 60's at night in June and mid 60's in July but this year was
weird. We woke up to 68 and 70 degree temps many mornings in June, as well as 50%
and above humidity. We didn't see our normal SW winds kick in until mid-July. Kept on
having S and SE breezes, and little rains twice a week until the beginning of July. It was
too weird to be believed, I felt like I was living in E TX. It must be climate change
Fall is in the air up here in the S Panhandle, I can smell it every morning when I walk out
the door. We've had two or three in.of rain in the last week so that has given us a break
from the normal rat-race of irrigation 24/7. The daylight hours are shrinking down to a
length we can survive now, and I noticed the sun was even coming in the South windows
of our house ever so slightly too. All those little signs that Fall is in the air, my favorite
season.
BTW I apologize for having a case of the brain scours this am.
.
Gentle Readers,
Mr. Bluey wrote that the BP blowout was "…the worst environmental disaster in American history…. ". This is simply not true. It was not even the worst environmental disaster in the Gulf. The biggest source of human pollution in the Gulf is run-off, eutrophication, and it is an ongoing disaster which each year is more than 10 times
greater than the BP blowout.
There are many other far worse ecological problems here in the U.S. and around the world.
Perspective is important.
Kindest Regards,
John Lepant Brighton CO
ocp, I like reading your "brain scours." After my late night, everything I'm doing today is fairly well "scoured." Sometimes I get hold of a tiger by the tail in the evening, and it clamps its teeth into my forearm, and first thing you know – it's Late-Thirty.
I think it's safe to vouch that I am "dragging my tail feathers" today, but too much to do to slow down much.
I miss the Panhandle South Plains falls! I know exactly what you are talking about in your description. In my part of the state, the next week's forecast is hot, Hot, HOT with 0 chance of rain, so as you said, it's irrigation nearly 24/7. Think the lowest daytime temp is supposed to be 101, with our nights being mid to upper 70s.
I miss those PSPlains early fall strolls in the evening after supper, when it had cooled down, and you could sense that the trees were reconsidering their leaves. Here, the trees mostly give up around late October – November and just look irritated.
I think you should congratulate yourself on your corn prices and quit looking at further reports! As with all of farming – Ya rolls the dice, and ya takes yur chances!
Better half talked to his cousin from Terrell and she said they were fighting to keep
their garden alive, same as you…..NO rain chance and 100+ temps. As high as 110
in the last couple of weeks. They have livestock too, although not much. I'll be try-
ing to wish some of this rain and cool, (80 on Wed) we're getting next week ya'lls
way.
Tigers?……… Seigfreid and Roy?………..Stay away from those tigers TR.
.
It answers lots of questions for me because this whole process is really incompetent. The US Coastguard asked for white papers to help with the oil and we submitted on helping with detection on as well as under the water day or night. After many weeks a response saying no thanks, don't write us back but they didn't show media one infrared image of the plumes under the water.
There needs to be a thorough investigation including health ramifications as a spill in Equador has 30,000 sick years later with oil fighting it.
