Art Laffer Calls Obama ‘Very Poor President’, Expects Defeat in ‘12
by Rick AmatoWith the unemployment rate at 9.2%, a contentious budget battle underway in Washington and small businesses- the very backbone of the U.S. economy- burdened by an ever growing list of government regulation, many might wonder what would Ronald Reagan would do today.
Well Arthur Laffer the famed economist who served as economic adviser under Reagan, tells me the Gipper would go after burdensome regulations to stimulate the economy, starting with President Barack Obama’s health care plan.
Laffer also says Americans should applaud Obama’s life story but reject his policies.
“He would repeal Obamacare. Obamacare makes no sense at all frankly. Remove Dodd-Frank, bring spending down and minimize government regulation”, Laffer told me in an interview.
“Obama is an example of an American success story but he is wrong on every issue. He is a terrific person but a very poor President”, he told me.
It’s that record in office that makes Obama a vulnerable incumbent in next year’s election, the former Reagan adviser added.
“Every election in my view is a referendum on the incumbent. I think Obama won in ‘08 because people were fatigued over the war and all that and Bush quite frankly was not a very good President. I think Reagan won because Carter was so bad. I believe Obama faces a very steep uphill fight in 2012 regardless of the opposition.”
Laffer said he believes that if “people have good, high paying jobs then all the social issue differences find a way of working themselves out.”

We were very deep in debt before Reagan took Office and used his common sense to save U.S. Art Laffer worked with Pres Reagan and created Reaganomics which was common sense & Americanism, and they turned America around because they are both loyal and patriotic Americans!

Certainly after his performance at tonight's presser, I would argue against saying he is a good guy. I happend to watch the Fox panel and agree with Krauthammer. Obama arrogantly demanding Congress to come to the White House is the height of arrogance and rudeness. These are co-equal branches of government and the president seems to think he is their boss. We need him out of the picture. In this one respect, I like the British government 's method of calling a "no confidence" election, because it would be a landslide.

I've had the misfortune of seeing what happens when you get government regulations involved. A simple contract between two companies can easily be less than ten pages. That same contract with a government agency or one of their suppliers instantly bloats to nearly a hundred pages! Generating and reviewing that much paperwork, alone, is burdensome. It would be fine if companies could just refuse to do business with the government, but the IRS gets kind of pissy about that.
Headline should read: Senate Democrats Defeat Debt Ceiling Increase.
If 3 Democrat Senarors had voted for Cut, Cap & Balance, a debt ceiling increase would be on Obama's desk to sign.

I'll admit, I didn't get past your second sentence. "We were very deep in debt before Reagan took Office and used his common sense to save U.S." Do you know anything? Are you a complete tool for mainstream Republicans? The national debt tripled during Reagan's two terms. The current accounts balance went negative halfway through his eight years. Reagan fought to raise the debt ceiling on multiple occasions. The first time was spring of his first year in office. When Reagan took office the debt ceiling was $1 trillion, and when he left our debt was up to $2.7 trillion. That doesn't sound like a common sense way to save America.
The Laffer Curve has some merit in a common sense way because of course taxes should be kept low and if they're too high your revenues will go down because people won't be as productive or they will withhold money from taxation. But the LC was used in a perverse way. It was held up to us as a way to increase revenue by cutting taxes, therefore convincing the people that spending didn't have to be cut. There's a reason the national debt grew by 300% during Reagan's eight years in office. I think Reagan's economic team actually convinced themselves that if they just cut taxes the deficit will magically take care of itself and they can keep spending. The LC is common sense, but it was twisted, distorted and passed off to Americans as a miracle worker by a bunch of monkeys in the White House.

Yes, neither party is good with the debt. I don't see why people think the repubs will be any better. If anything the repubs slow roast us into debt.
Although Laffer is well-known for a good economic idea, he still voted for Obama. He told Neil Cavuto that last year. Sorry, but I don't listen to anyone who voted for Obama.
It's amazing how quickly they absolve themselves of responsibility. Krugman boasted long-winded sappy articles at the Times about Obama's savvy on everything economics. Today it's "what evidence do we have that Obama knows what he’s doing?"

I am late in writing this but I about vomited listening to Laffer and needed to get this out of my head. BHO "a phenomenal" person? ! Are you kidding me? Why do these guys (and I've heard this from other conservatives) always have to qualify their "bad policies" with "nice guy". The man criticized our country and the American people when campaigning and while in office and he planned on doing what he said "transforming America". He's smart enough to know his policies were going to bring this country down. And set about on that path. That's not a "phenomenal" or "terrific" guy to me. BHO is a Marxist and I would not say any of them are "terrfic". Your policies are part of your construct. You are your policies.
OBAMA's 'success' is an example of 'fooling some of the people all of the time', and 'fooling all of the people some of the time'…at least enough of the people (and a compliant press) to get elected in '08'.
While I mostly like Mr. Laffer, I've NEVER applauded Obama's life story…unless you appreciate the tale of an 'indulged' spoiled brat, raised by 'wacko' grandparents, and a mother of 'dubious' character, who does not like white people and couldn't care less about the USA….except for what he can TAKE (steal) from it.
I'm beyond disappointed that Mr. Laffer voted for the OFRAUDA. Didn't Laffer do any research about this guy?
