New #OccupyOakland Violence: Police Injured, 100 Arrested as Left’s ‘Mostly Peaceful’ Movement Returns

The Associated Press reports:
Police were in the process of arresting about 100 Occupy protesters who failed to disperse Saturday night, hours after officers used tear gas on a rowdy group of demonstrators who threw rocks and flares at them and tore down fences.
Police Sgt. Christopher Bolton said the arrests came after protesters marched through downtown Oakland a little before 8 p.m. Saturday. Some protesters entered a YMCA building.
Meanwhile, about 100 police officers surrounded City Hall while others swept the inside of the building to see if any protesters broke in….
Police used tear gas and “flash” grenades on the group Saturday afternoon after some demonstrators threw rocks and other objects at them. Police said three officers were hurt, but they released no details.
Police said the group assembled at a downtown plaza Saturday morning, and demonstrators threatened to take over the vacant Henry Kaiser Convention Center. The group then marched through the streets, disrupting traffic, officials said.
The crowd grew as the day wore on, with afternoon estimates ranging from about 1,000 to 2,000 people.
The protesters walked to the vacant convention center, where some started tearing down perimeter fencing and “destroying construction equipment” shortly before 3 p.m., police said.
Police said they issued a dispersal order and used smoke and tear gas after some protesters pelted them with bottles, rocks, burning flares and other objects.
The Occupy Wall Street movement, which President Barack Obama and fellow Democrats supported last fall, has provided the Obama campaign with the “99 percent versus 1 percent” meme which has supported its attempts to target Republicans as the party of the “rich.”

The guy filming it also tells the occupiers to NOT throw things at the cops so they were instigating it for sure! Watch the vid closely you will see their shields that have anarchy symbols on them and they move as if they were trained on how to engage the police!!
This is the key to unlock folks who is organizing them where are they learning this? When I saw it the first ting that came to mind was the scenes from 'Gladiator' how the slaves were being organized by the former Roman General Maximus. I dont care what anyone says these troublemakers are getting training. This is just the beginning IMO they were also "probing" the police etc while eyes around the country watch and learn. It appears they amped it up their tactics.
True, it has turned out to be a case of "better late than never". But if they had of nipped this thing in the bud the moment it started then we wouldn't be having issues still with these idiots. They have gotten used to breaking the law and getting away with it, not they are pissed off that they are not getting all the special "hands off" treatment that they got at the start and the only way they know how to deal with their anger and frustration is by breaking stuff.

Honest, just, and equitable representation. Must be the goal of our republic or it is only a corporate counterfeit where liberty and justice is only for those who can pay the extortion. Serf: most of the things you rail against are Democrat ideas. While some Repubs go along to obtain more power or wealth, the proportion of Dems to Repubs is overwhelming.
It is easy to say vote them all out but then who do we end up with? Not enough votes for a government position doesn't mean they will abolish that post. We will get someone who has offered more largesse because the freeloaders will still vote. We can't not vote for politicians since they are the only ones running.
What you are advocating is status quo – a decline into tyranny by government and soviet style control of our economy since the very people who control it (Marxists) will have run it into the ground.

The have targeted Oakland because there is a very weak mayor, who was put into office by a "ranked choice" voting system – she didn't have the most 1st place votes but was declared a winner based on second and third choices – and a PD that has been under DOJ scrutiny for some former cops who tried to clean up the armpit of the SF bay area (not that there are very many places in the area that aren't right up there) but were declared to be too forceful and too willing to cut corners to get the desired result. Oakland being just south of Berkely doesn't help.

I had a USTREAM view of the protestors who were kettled up by the YMCA going for about 4 hours last night. Mostly peaceful. There was one gang-banger who stole a camera. The sat on the curb for more than 2 hours waiting for arrest processing. They were hauled out in full size buses from several counties. No less than 6 bus loads at 50 to 60 per bus. So, I think the arrest numbers were a good bit higher. Time will tell. There were more arrest locations being talked about as well.
One thing I do know is that today will be another round as they try to occupy vacant property again. They were talking of another FTP gathering today. FTP stands for F**K the POLICE. All such nice people!
As of 7am MST Yahoo New says 200 arrests and Fox News says 300 arrests. The OWS came from the entire West cost and as far east as Boston. They also got into City Hall and burned a US Flag and tried to do damage before the cops got them out. My guess is that was not very peaceful.

This is exactly why I cautioned so much about referring to what happened as the TEA Party movement and said it should be called what it is – The Liberty Movement. I find it mind boggling, Oakland is the LAST place you should want to protest! The city is in the financial dumpster, business is almost non existent, the city is very far left, the gang problems are extreme, The city boasts the top murder rate in California and the cops are used to working in a battle field.
Of all the cities in the Bay Oakland has been facing the worst of this occupy movement and that city has the least to offer the protesters in the way of services or victory.
Even Occupy SF has been knocked on it's heels and SF is far more leftist than Oakland! Occupy San Jose is non-existent. And the occupy movements in the other cities are so tiny no one even knows they are there. And yet Oakland, where poverty is not only a reality is it a virtual calling card for the city, is treated like it is the epicenter of the occupy movement.

You raise valid concerns and I do not claim what I advocate is perfect or will solve all our problems, but it is solution based on freedom and capitalism. The present polarizing forced collectivism is more socialistic than capitalistic and is the source of our problem. We are not a two party republic, but our republic has been manipulated to prevent freedom of choice.
Registering unaffiliated does take power away from the corrupt parties and lays the ground work necessary for a successful third party. This is only natural and necessary. To use government to suppress the freedom of the people is socialistic.
To advocate suppression of freedom even during trying times is to kill the freedom necessary to provide real solutions.
The old and corrupt must move aside or the young energetic can never bring forth the innovative ideas and justice necessary to save our republic. It is true a new party will overtime become corrupt, but power always corrupt and it too will die, when a new party rises to take its place, thus keeping in check the corruption and providing justice we are currently lacking.

Whoever tries to say that the protesters were "peaceful" and it was a "peaceful protest" needs to be shown this video. I was wondering why they cornered the protesters at the YMCA, and the organizers/supporters were upset that the police didn't let them March…. I have ALWAYS stood with the Occupiers' RIGHT to redress of grievance as well as their right to peaceful protest… THIS IS NOT THE CASE with Occupy Oakland…
That video will show you why, the crowd was pretty much violent FROM THE BEGINNING. Also, if you watch the video, I would take that as the police "issuing the order to disperse", which organizers say never happened…The Occupiers might have watched "300" one too many times w/ the way they were "advancing" on the police…

I am sure the November election is a risk Obama does not wish to take, and Obamaos Occupy will do whatever their boss needs to create the environment ripe for the elections to be suspended.
I'm in Southern California, in a suburb about 40 miles north of L.A. and there was an "Occupy" thing that went on ONE DAY, something about the bridges in the area needing fixing. Never heard from them again. They weren't violent, I'll give them that, but it certainly didn't take off. We've got a much bigger Tea Party.
Plus, an "Occupy" moron tried to interrupt Mass on Thanksgiving last year and was escorted out.
Things like that give you hope.

Besides the selection of the electoral college is a state matter. Obama can not stop an election in ANY state. And he lacks authority to declare martial law due to simple civil unrest in some Democratic Party controlled city or state. Go ahead suspend the election in all Democratic Party controlled cities. The rest of us will still vote. Your delayed votes won't be counted fool!!
Anyone who colludes with a delusional call to suspend an election needs to be immediately brought into custody in whatever state they are residing in. The local sherrif's will be our defense against the Federal tyrant.

we need to make it clear—the POTUS can not suspend elections. This is a state issue. The POTUS has no authority to suspend a national election due to lawlessness in some Democratic Party run cities.
Go ahead and suspend the election in Democratic cities. The rest of us will run our elections on time as per the Constitution. The foolish Obama voter who does not vote because his highness said game off that day is a chump. his votes will not be counted in determining Electors for the Electoral College.
Any politician or other civil servant who agrees that Obama can suspend a state election should be immediately arrested by their county sheriff and held for trial.
