GOP National Security Debate Open Thread
by PubliusTonight, CBS and National Journal team up for another debate of the GOP candidates for President. The debate is reportedly focused on national security and foreign policy. It is safe to say this could be Rick Perry’s make or break moment. The fun starts at 8pm EST.

It'll be a miracle if Herman Cain doesn't have to answer questions about his unsubstantiated allegations, and how they affect foreign policy, or national security for that matter. CBS is the king of hit "journalism", just ask Dan Rather.
.
I find myself eagerly waiting for Newt to give another MSM smart-mouth the proper smack-down they deserve.
I would never have thought I'd be having that to look forward to from any GOP candidate. What a world. Old Newt Gingrich being described as "refreshing." Heh.

Seconded. I was driving my car when I heard Rush play that clip. I had to resist the urge to give Newt the "Like a Boss" salute!

Make or break for Perry? He has had enough "break" moments already – unless he is ready to break away and make his way off stage…
You can't, won't and shouldn't win. Go back to Texas… And take Flip with you, please!
Some combination of Newt and Herb seems most palatable at the moment…
Is it safe to say when Iran and Israel are brought up Paul will be putting the final nails into his run for the WH coffin?
The guy has some great ideas but is very weak and a bit concerning on others.
Let's see if Newt and Romney square off tonight. If Newt's serious about winning Romney's really the only guy he has to contend with unless all the polls are skewed and Ron Paul is really doing better at the precinct level than being credited.
Besides this I'm also highly interested to hear if Ron Paul is going to be asked anything at all tonight, seeing how much he's been marginalized in all these Q&A sesssions (I refuse to refer to these events any longer as "debates" since they most deffinitely are not). Let's hear if he gets the chance to show us why his neutrality stand in foreign policy is actually what the Founders (you know, those guys the Tea Party people always like to refer to) liked and wanted for this nation, and why "entangling alliances" will continue to hurt America's reputation around the world and dampen her long-term success and happiness.
I still like Newt and think he's got a chance to upset Romney but we'll see. He's going to have to be more aggressive and clearly distinguish why he's the better choice.
Let's see if Iran and Israel have any place at all in these questions and answers, too. Maybe Israel will be as marginalized from the discussion as Paul has been.
It will be a miracle if Cain doesn't say "999" tonight in response to a question on Iran, Israel, or national security.
Someone please call out Romney the RINO.
Mr.Cain , Would you allow a woman to drive in America if you were president?…And would they be required to wear skirts?….
Yeah….I can imagine the hit job questions already…..
I am posing to a question here and would like to hear your responses:
Which country in the world poses the greatest threat to the United States?
That comment will get you a bunch of Thumbs Down from the Paul Supporters. I don't know how Paul can win in a national security debate because he is opposed to most Military action. Isolationism isn't a winning policy.
I'm clearly on the side of Cain when it comes to National Security, it will be interesting to hear what he says.
He is the only one so far that has outwardly said he understands that the Constitution and Shariah are diametrically opposed. With the smoking ad, he told me he is not going to wallow in political correctness and invite foreign beliefs into our system that will compromise The America Way of freedom of speech or freedom of religion.
trick ques? The "country of Washington DC" is the real threat
I think Islamic Iran is on the radar. They have the most to loose by not making a move as soon as they are able against Israel. They have an aging population with slowed growth (was 7 kids to mom, now 1.5 kids per mom) with a leader that is willing to sacrifice his people to gain a foothold and be a power. Iran will be the first task of our new president in conjuction with Israel.
I'd say New Zealand. That's probably where my family and I will emigrate to if things don't turn around soon. I'm probably not alone, and that's probably all part of their plan.
He'll say 9/11 was an iniside job and throw Israel under the bus.
His campaign was finished when he joined up with his fwiend Bawney Fwank to legalize pot.
." It is safe to say this could be Rick Perry’s make or break moment. "
Only a weak minded liberal would say that and it ranks up there with your "R.E. Lee is a traitor" comment Publius.
I'd STILL vote for Perry in the primaries because he has a track record of 10 years of conservative votes. Herman Cain on the other hand DOES NOT.
I'd also say that most anti Perry people on this board are either PaulBots or anti Christian bigots.
If we are grading debate skills than Newt Gingrich wins hands down.
Is that Major Garrett at the desk? If so perhaps we will have some probing, non-got'cha questions. I miss him since he left Fox. Come to think of it, we both left about the same time.
Certainly the Liberals at CBS will attack Cain for the Axelrod/Rahm assault on Herman Cain.
Liberals love Muslims and Shariah law right? Then they should demand 4 witnesses to each of the accusers. Should the women be stoned?
Comedy or Parody of what it's like talking to a RP cult follower.

Lead off questions to Herman Cain in both of these last two debates.
Nice tie in b/w our energy policy and putting pressure on Iran.
RP is a crackpot and so are his followers.

Major is the only reason I'm watching this.
Thumb suckers! Moonbats are out early!
Romney notes that there might have been a Persian Spring if the US had shown support.
I thumbed ya up and I wish I could thumb ya up more but I can't. It's too bad for them that I don't even care about rep scores and I know that neither do most of us REAL conservatives.
They constantly throw around the word neo-con at us but in reality they are anti Semite muzzie sympathizers.
"Dan Rather here -"
"Mr. Cain, what's your favorite pick-up line ?"
"Mr. Perry, what 3 countries would you like to eliminate ? "
It will be a miracle if the MoonBat Paul doesn't call for the reopening of the Jew ovens.
Newt ..You are so smooth!
I am doing the best I can for you ForConstitution!
Don't trust him as far as you can throw him.
Perry criticizes Obama's call to pull out of Afghanistan.
Wow, I was surprised at Flip's hawkish stance on Iran. LOL, not quite "in character" for him… but he can always change that tomorrow ; D
**Beep da da da beep dada beep beep**
FLASH!!! This just in Ron Paul wins CBS/ National Journal straw poll before it has even been run!
Santorum would aim to neuter the military effectiveness of the Taliban. And has been working on Iran for a long time.
C'mon Rick, somebody needs to tell the truth on Afghanistan.
The truth? We need to tell them that we have given enough, and they are now on their own. Pull another situation where a Bin Laden type is allowed to operate? Total war, and no "nation building". If they choose to be savages, let them suffer a savage's fate…
Is Santorum always mad?
Thanks! Backatya!
Let me see if I can dig this article up, but the moonbats were caught somehow cheating at one of those polls.
Wow! Michelle did her homework. Too bad she isn't really as bright as she seems at times.
Regular little pretzel, an't he?
Jon Huntsman wants us to come home from Afghanistan. Major objectives have been achieved.
Or better yet, if he finally admits he's converted to Islam and burns an American flag.
Huntsman: GET OFF THE STAGE – NO ONE CARES WHAT YOUR IRRELEVANT @$$ THINKS!!!
Huntsman is nutzzz! Wonder why the HELL he doesn't run out of time in mid-thought???
He strikes me as more passionate than angry. Scrappy lil' sucker!
Oh gawd! Huntsman has now swung toward wackoville. Wait, he was already there. Nevermind
Cain/Gingrich or Gingrich/Cain, I'll take either ticket gladly.
Newt makes the most sense on Iran – Pakistan… No surprise there…
another one from the Tea Party Rocker jamming "Wagon Wheel" w/ Sen Ric Santorum this morning in SC. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mh_YupKFuAM
YEP, and Newt is smooth with his second opportunity on Af-stan.
.
Gingrich says Afghanistan can't be considered without taking into consideration its more strategically important neighbors, Iran and Pakistan.
Cain is not solid on his discussion of Pakistan, but he has a knack for ending on time.
Perry wants to zero out foreign aid to all countries.
"Foreign aid will start at zero dollars for every country." NO aid if you don't support America."
Perry.
Dang……Ricky hits one out of the park!
musician Chris Holly to perform w/ Newt Gingrich Nov 28th-Charleston SC 7pm- music vid here- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AokBQwrn6u0
I agree with Perry on foreign aid. Starve them into submission.
He did didn't he and I just put his quote under my header.
I LOVE Perry's idea on foreign aid!!! Every country starts at $0.00!!! GOOO Rick… Same for MEXICO, Rick baby???
IMO Governors make the best presidents.
Bachmann reminds us that there are nukes in Pakistan. She seems to have firm command on Mideast political intricacies.
"world-wide nuclear war against Israel"?
Really Michelle? I would think it would only take one little rogue group. Silly statement…
I'd like to ask him what is the difference between foreign aid and a college education for illegals.
Gingrich agrees start foreign aid discussions at $0. He is concerned about an "anti-Christian Spring"
That was a stellar moment for him.
Did you read the article today about Thomas Jefferson being a bad public speaker on the Bigs today?
Mr. Santorum is done: "Pakistan must be our friend".
Whatever dude, seems you forgot who we are…
Go home…
No $#!t Sherlock, but he'll never be asked about that.
.
Santorum agrees with Bachmann that we must maintain ally status with Pakistan. Be selective of which elements of the Pakistan government we support.
Turn Pakistan into a sheet of glass then finish up in Afganistan. Diplomacy will never work with fanatics. They will tell us whatever we want to hear as long as we keep sending the money. Period.
We should be moderators.
Oh, wait….Nah….we'd scare 'em all off.
LOL, that was a little silly. As small as Israel is I think it might be hard for a war with them to go world-wide.
Good interview today that someone posted of Perry on the Bigs.

I don't see anything wrong with that policy at all. Especially in the middle east.
Gingrich declines to criticize Romney. Wants to take on the UN and Agenda 21. Apply 6 sigma to Pentagon.
NEWT! NEWT! NEWT!
Now, if we only knew if we could really, really trust him…
Hmm…
Not, yet. I'll go back to it after the debates. I did read somewhere that TJ was a lousy speaker.
Cain describes his decision making process concerning military action. Could have used a personal example from his extensive business leadership experience.
Thanks. I'll check it out.
I will be right behind you. And I'm not just saying that.
Santorum outlines top priorities in foreign policy. Starting with arresting Iran's nuclear ambitions.
Rick Santorum:
http://buddingculture.com/wp-content/uploads/2011...
LOL see Perry has a sense of humor!
Wow, Perry made a funny…
Perry says other departments besides Energy can take care of US nukes. Perry touts his executive experience. Nice exchange on his memory lapse on Wednesday.
I've heard Rush Limbaugh tout Costa Rica.
Cain defends waterboarding as an enhanced interrogation technique. But Bachmann gives a more effective defense. Don't let the ACLU run the CIA.
Uh, Michelle? Barry doesn't arrest terrorists – he blows them up with hellfire missiles…
Paul calls waterboarding torture. It is immoral and illegal.
Ron Paul is a moon bat! Listen to all the druggies clapping!
Ron Paul accepts the principle of international law……….ugh!
Moderators? NO, I want to be a heckler in the audience!;-D
Huntsman is grateful for 30 seconds, but will run over before his second sentence.
Hey Huntsman: Your "standing" in the world is meaningless if you are brought to your knees…
Idiot…
He just said waterboarding is torture and all of the druggies agreed.
Bachmann has more to say on waterboarding, but she should save it for her next response.
I always wondered if when Huntsman was an ambassador, if he creeped them out as much as he does me. ?
