#OccupyOakland Protests Wells Fargo, then Opens an Account

Last week, one or more Occupy Oakland protesters smashed the windows of a Wells Fargo branch.
This week, the group’s general assembly agreed — in a near-unanimous vote Monday — to temporarily place $20,000 of the group’s money in an account at the country’s fourth-largest bank holding company, Wells Fargo Bank.
Whether the decision was an abandonment of the movement’s opposition to big banks or an ominous affirmation of the hold that big banks have on Americans, Twitter was ablaze with outrage last night, as news spread about the 162-8 vote, from which 16 people abstained.
“I am so disgusted right now. the hypocrisy of it all is just amazing,” wrote @GiveMeThatJuice.
“ARE YOU F—— SERIOUS?!,” wrote @graceface.
“I can see the ad now: ‘People’s money is so safe here at Wells Fargo, even our sworn enemies use us for their banking needs!’” wrote @davidcolburn.
And indeed, Wells Fargo spokesman Ruben Pulido went out of his way on Monday to notify reporters about this development via email. “If this report is true,” he wrote, “it demonstrates that even Occupy Oakland understands — firsthand — the value and service that Wells Fargo provides its customers. Wells Fargo welcomes the 100 percent of Americans to allow us to help them meet their financial needs.”
According to meeting minutes posted on a Facebook page for the “Oakland General Assembly,” the group’s lawyer, Tim Fong, will temporarily keep a $20,000 donation from Occupy Wall Street in a Wells Fargo account, until he can finalize paperwork needed to open a credit union account for the group. The move is necessary to expedite the money’s availability for bailing out jailed protesters, the minutes said.

Mindless loons. Why protest Wells? They were financially secure and didn't need TARP. Wells tried to reject it, & Paulson made it clear that was not an option….their CEO was not allowed to leave the White House until he signed up for TARP. It was reported in painful detail in the Wall St Journal. Wells wasn't allowed to repay the money they didn't need until Timmy Geithner said it was ok. So where were these protestors when this crap was going on and why weren't they protesting it back then? As I recall, they were very busy calling those of us who objected to TARP the stupid party of NO. And now they're protesting one of the banks that didn't want it. Mindless, clueless loons.

Remember how a Saudi prince bought up a significant amount of News Corp stock a while back? He's not a majority owner, bit still. he owns the second largest number of shares. Fox seems to have become a lot more unwilling to do stories hypocritical of, say, Sharia law, or Saudi Arabia since then. Oh sure, the commentators haven't really changed much, but the actual news service? That's another story. Remember that big documentary on Sharia law in America Fox put together a few years ago? I'm not sure that's the sort of thing they'd air nowadays.

The protestors are not against banks. They are against banks that operate as brokerage houses, invest all of your money in risky financial instruments, and then place bets in the futures markets that the investment will fail.

If that's for me, Hank, I can't give you an answer. It just "feels" that way to me and I admit that's pretty flimsy! Nevertheless, at least one TV in my house is on Fox News all day and I'm not ashamed to admit it. The other TVs may be on CNN or the alphabets, for the Helens out there. I don't wholly depend on Fox for my views but, I have noticed something about Muslim reportage there.
