#OccupyWallStreet Builds Tent As ‘Safe House’ To Protect Female Protesters

Spurred by a spate of sex attacks in Zuccotti Park, Occupy Wall Street protesters built a “safe house” for women on Friday. The 16-square-foot military frame tent is designed to shelter up to 30 women from the predators lurking around the lower Manhattan encampment.
“It will be used to protect ourselves from people out there,” said Nan Terrie, 17, a protester from East Oakland Park, Fla. “I’m sick and tired of women getting taken advantage of, raped and murdered. “We need to take charge. We can make it happen without men telling us what to do,” said Terrie, who heads a protester subcommittee called Strong Women Rules. Terrie said the tent, erected along the southern edge of the park near Cedar St., will be outfitted with bunk beds, drawers and a welcome table. A second tent will house a computer.
“I think it’s a great idea, especially for a movement like ours, to show we’re supporting each other,” said Bieje Chapman, 37, of Park Slope. “Certainly women are the first target for any type of crazies, but I live in Park Slope, and the rapists there are more scary. I feel safer here.”

Call me crazy, but reporting sexual assaults to inside people with no real authority, and a desire to maintain a certain image of the protests, while keeping the police who can actually do something about these animals out of the loop, is absurd on almost every level. You are creating the very environment that will lead to a proliferation of these types of crimes, and it's only a matter of time before they start escalating to horrifying proportions.

i kinda remember the tea party, they had special safe zones, the whole rally was safe. we didn't need special safe places for women, children, sexual orientation, or race. we just made the whole thing safe. the easy way to make it safe, don't invite democrats, communists, socialists, or progressives.

What I am so worried about is their behavior becoming "white noise" to our lives. They are already turning ugly…Oakland, Denver, and Washington DC. That stuff that came out of DC last night was flat disturbing, children used as shields and Occupy'ers not allowing a woman in a wheelchair to leave through the handicap entrance/exit. They are doing much more harm than good and the progressive politician like our fearless leader, Obama, are holding their banner high. I want these creatures removed….I am more than happy to go down there and do it myself….kind of like, I got my city, you get yours. In a Conservative community it is expected that a woman can safely go wherever she pleases, whenever she pleases. If some culprit attempts to molest her almost any man in sight, and probably any woman too, will be offended and violently defend her. If her father and brothers hear about it before the b@st@rd is arrested, they'll have a go at him too. I have participated in such civilized brutality; it is messy, but an effective deterrent against future degenerate behavior.
Like this OWS community, women in many Islamic societies have a "safe space" too – their own home. If they stay in it they're safe. They can go outside for brief periods if they don't drive, stay away from males, and stay inside a sort of portable "safe space" known as a burka. If some culprit molests a woman, males who share her belief system will beat her. If her father and brothers find out before she is arrested they may kill her to protect their honor. This is an effective deterrent against other women thinking about venturing outside their safe space.
In a progressive, liberal, community there are special "safe spaces" where women can hide. If some culprit molests a woman, liberal men in the vicinity will take pictures and post video on YouTube. A group led by several women may confront the culprit and "talk to him", i.e. educate him that raping people is wrong and makes them feel powerless, and maybe suggest that he apologize. If he is not too big and mean they might take away his blanket. They might even tell him he is no longer welcome. This is not deterrent at all against future degenerate behavior, but it makes the leaders feel very progressive.

Yeah, I think these liberal obamavilles are very educational; better than Animal Farm and Lord of the Flies. I was hoping that they would keep going for a while. They're very amusing. Exactly, feminism could only come about in a society that has a high standard of living, strong law and order and an educated population. So it has only taken place in western democracies after the industrial revolution and the concept of social welfare had made life easier enough that people had the time and money so that they could do absolutely nothing productive with their life and still afford to eat. This also works for homosexuality, especially lesbians, they could never have had the same type of lifestyle in any other system.
