Occupy Oakland activists vandalized a Whole Foods store on Grand Street this afternoon during their “general strike” march:
Occupy activists painted “STRIKE” on the building’s walls and windows, and damaged a fence, among other acts of vandalism–ignoring those few who cried “non-violence.”
Fights appeared to break out among activists as some attempted to discourage further damage to the store, and were attacked themselves.

UPDATE (8:45 p.m. PDT): Activists are claiming on Twitter that a passing vehicle collided with several demonstrators and killed one of them. Police have reportedly released the driver.

UPDATE: Activists are now reversing their earlier claims, tweeting that the protestor who was injured in a car collision has non-life-threatening injuries.

That's exactly when I was thinking. Remember when we vandalized the . . . that place on . . . .
Yeah, I don't remember that either. I do remember respectfully marching, listening to instructions from the D.C. police not to block a road between the Capitol Grounds and the beginning of the Mall. I remember after it was over, passing by the area where the rally was held and seeing not ONE LICK OF GARBAGE, but rather tons of neatly tied up extra garbage bags next to the public garbage cans, bags that were brought by those in attendance knowing that the public garbage cans would not be able to handle the number of people there and the garbage that would accumulate.
Nothing was broken or vandalized; no arrests were made.
Yeah, it's just like the Tea Party.

I think most people in this area, even if liberal, wouldn't put up with it. My "town" is kind of big (over 160,000) so it's hard to say how many real honest to God toe tag crazy leftists we have living here, but this is an area that people move to so that they can live better than in L.A. – house prices are generally lower and the schools are better. So whether one is a liberal or not, they probably wouldn't want to see their town destroyed by morons.

I can see being a little mad – both the Greeks and the college students. But people have to start thinking for themselves. Even if you were told that that is what you were "supposed to do", perhaps we should still have critical thinking skills and realize that 4 years and $150,000 studying "victimology" or "grievance studies" is not going to get you that 6 figure a year job with a corner office.
When I got out of school in 1997, things weren't even that bad, but I chose a competitive profession in a highly competitive state. I didn't really think it all through and didn't listen to my parents who tried to tell me that there were other options. So here I am, badly in debt and was never able to procure that high paying job, and then finally realized that I wouldn't want it anyway because I prefer spending time with my family. So I take the hit – work an average job, try to make ends meet and probably never be rich.
And I think it's fine to be mad. But that feeling should be used in a productive way (I think you do agree with that much) – work whatever job you can find to pay your bills and work towards fixing the problems by paying attention to politics, getting involved.
That's what the Tea Party did and we made some headway in 2010. Although the GOP is still hopeless IMHO and needs some serious spankings and purgings.

What a MESS! Oakland PD called for cops from other cities crowd stopped shipping work in the port and protester hit by car. Several crowd areas of thousands.
