Joe The Plumber Running for Congress in Ohio

The Ohio man who became a household name after questioning Barack Obama about his economic policies during the 2008 campaign has filed paperwork to run for Congress.
Samuel “Joe” Wurzelbacher’s statement of candidacy filed with the Federal Elections Commission last week says he plans to run as a Republican in Ohio’s 9th U.S. House district. The filing means a campaign committee can raise and spend funds on Wurzelbacher’s behalf.
The seat is now held by Marcy Kaptur, the longest serving Democratic woman in the House.
Wurzelbacher rose out of obscurity in 2008 after questioning then-candidate Obama about his economic policies, leading the Republican opponent, Sen.John McCain, to repeatedly cite “Joe the plumber” in a presidential debate.
Wurzelbacher later campaigned with McCain and his running mate, Sarah Palin. He also wrote a book, spoke at conservative gatherings and has worked with a veterans’ organization in Alaska that provides outdoor programs for wounded soldiers.
He has been an icon for many anti-establishment conservatives. He drew cheers at a tea party rally last year in Cincinnati when he told the crowd not to let “a bunch of liberal pansies” take away their rights.
His district, which was redrawn this year and stretches from Toledo to Cleveland, is heavily tilted toward Democrats. Republicans said this summer that they were recruiting Wurzelbacher to make a run, thinking he could raise enough money to mount a serious challenge.
Cuyahoga County Republican Chairman Rob Frost already has announced he’s seeking the GOP nomination. Kaptur and U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich,whose district in Cleveland was lumped into Katur’s [sic] territory, will face each other in a Democratic primary.

I also wish him the best (being from the district). Unfortunately, he will lose – the redistricting makes the situation even worse for district 9. Sad, but true.

Good question. I don't think Kucinich has a snowballs chance in a primary. For some reason people around here are uneducated about Marcy. They're the type who could overwhelmingly vote Republican for other candidates, but not her.
I don't mean to be pessimistic, but the elections are not even close ( 60+ percent) – not since 1984 when her first term was up.

I remember another occassion when some plumbers got involved in some political process… and despite himself, I still like G Gordon Liddy. Now, as to Joe and the congress, could he be less than any of those haters in the CBC? Of course not. Would he be anything like those moonbats from California? Would he flee from Ohio like the Wisconsin senate-sissies did to avoid dealing with the political process? Nah. My intuition is that Joe is very much like Ohioans from his district, I'm glad to see those folks have a choice between a real Ohio resident and a beltway insider.

For a 'regular Joe' I would say he is quite smart. He nailed Obama's ass as soon as he saw the organizer waltzing down his neighborhood street. I'm still incredibly impressed with his performance that day. Go Joe!

Kaptur has a habit of moving toward the center just prior to an election, and running on her most recent voting record. Once elected, she always swings back left until time to campaign again.
Obama has trouble being the smartest guy in a room by himself.
It's a shame that room is so often the Oval Office….

I had the pleasure of meeting Sam and talking with him a couple of months ago at at fund raiser for a delegate of the Maryland House. He's a straight forward guy. His book, "Fighting for the American Dream" isn't bad either.
He'd make a good Congressman. He'd be a lot better than most of those characters who currently occupy the House.
