Decision Week for Chris Christie
by PubliusFrom Reuters:
Republican Chris Christie discussed a possible run for president with top advisers over the weekend and needs to decide by week’s end, a Republican familiar with the discussions said on Monday.
Christie, the New Jersey governor, has been wrestling with whether to jump into the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination and is under strong pressure from many donors and party activists to do so.
“He is thinking about it,” said the Republican, who spoke on condition of anonymity. “He did meet with the advisers this weekend. From the way it’s characterized to me, he’s still not planning to run unless they give him some kind of compelling argument.”
A complication for a run at this stage would be the challenge of organizing a national campaign with the first U.S. nominating contests, the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, about three months away.
Read the whole thing here. A bigger complication are looming filing deadlines in several states. You can’t win if you’re not on the ballot.

Can we please stop posting about Christie?? Everytime I see him being touted as a RNC candidate I get that weird McCain vibe, like I do about Romney and Perry.
Christie may not have all the best views on all topics, but I'd support him over Romney and Perry anytime. Governor Christie at least shows some courage on union issues and seems to speak honestly unlike Perry or Romney who just play to their audience with rhetoric.
Didn't he already decide and make that decision clear? Anyway, if he did he would be wasting his time and money. He and Romney are somewhat similar in that they are both fairly liberal Republicans from very blue states and as such would be fighting over the same votes.
But, it may help Herman Cain out and if it does I say, Run, Christie, Run.
Proud member of Honkeys for Herman.
No THANKS Governor.. You are doing a good job in NJ but we need a CONSERVATIVE in DC. You are only semi-conservative in a SOCIALIST STATE.
Alerics right.
I have a feelling "somebody" wants him to run so they can beat the crap out of him and color New Jersey blue again
Leave him alone, he's doing fine where he is, we've got enough candidates already, and somebody has to take care of the states anyway.
I keep thinking of Fred Thompson who was encouraged to run and got nothing for his trouble.
Cain is getting my vote and monies… Christie if he got in would just show me he isn't a man of his word.
Can someone explain, please, why Christie has time to think this over until the end of the week – and thus it wouldn't be too late for him then – but Palin ought to have decide simply ages ago, according to the meejah, and it is already too late for her to announce now, according to them?
Oh – and why is she 'a tease', but Christie isn't?
Am just trying to get my head around this …
Chris Christie = Donald Trump on steroids.
HOW ABOUT FOR A COMPELLING ARGUMENT THAT THE COUNTRY IS GOING DOWN THE TUBES!! AND WE NEED A STRONG LEADER???
Yes, Christie is on the more liberal side but he is far superior to Romney who we will be stuck with if he doesn't run. Don't believe Cain will be ALLOWED to win with the RINO's. They are worse than Obama.
FOR CHRISTIE
1. strong leadership
2. Took on the teachers' unions
3. trying and has made progress in balancing the budget
4. Pro-life
5. Ann Coulter knows what's going on and she endorses him
NO ONE is all things to all men but compared to Romney he is preferable. I predict that if he doesn't run Obama will be re-elected. Think about it.
UNBEATABLE Christie/Cain !!!!
Right now Cain is my guy too. Business career Wikipedia
After completing his master's degree from Purdue, Cain left the Department of the Navy and began working for The Coca-Cola Company in Atlanta as a business analyst. In 1977, he moved to Minneapolis to join Pillsbury, soon becoming director of analysis in its restaurant and foods group in 1978. He was assigned in the 1980s first to analyze and ultimately to take the reins of Burger King, which at the time was a Pillsbury subsidiary, where he managed 400 stores in the Philadelphia area. Under Cain's leadership, his region went in three years from the least profitable for Burger King to the most profitable. This prompted Pillsbury to appoint him President and CEO of another subsidiary, Godfather's Pizza. Aiming to cut costs, Cain over a 14-month period reduced the company from 911 stores down to 420. As a result of his efforts, Godfather's Pizza finally became profitable. In a leveraged buyout in 1988, Cain, Executive Vice-President and COO Ronald B. Gartlan and a group of investors bought Godfather's from Pillsbury. Cain continued as CEO until 1996, when he was asked to resign by the board.
Later that year he became CEO of the National Restaurant Association – a trade group and lobby organization for the restaurant industry – where he had previously been chairman concurrently with his role at Godfather's.[10]
Cain became a member of the board of directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in 1992 and served as its chairman from January 1995 to August 1996, when he resigned to become active in national politics.[11] Cain was a 1996 recipient of the Horatio Alger Award.[12]
Cain was on the board of directors of Aquila, Inc. from 1992 to 2008, and also served as a board member for Nabisco, Whirlpool, Reader's Digest, and AGCO, Inc.[13][14][15]

EXACTLY!!! FAR SUPERIOR!!!
BREAKING NEW PICTURES ………………..
Here is the proof with pictures! Barack Obama is and has been "aligned" with the Black Panther Party all the time. Will the MSM, along with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson report this to the public? Here is the reason why Eric Holder did NOT follow up on the prosecution of the New Black Panther Party members during the Philadelphia voting intimidation fiasco during the Presidents 2008 election. As we all say, "the proof is in the pudding" and here is the proof! This is a "White-Hate" organization, through and through!

CHRISTIE is no MCCAIN!! Not by a long shot. If he gets in he will win!!!

Can you see Romney facing down the Brooklyn Bridge/Denver/Alabama/etc etc etc crowds??? It would be a joke!!!
Chris Christie isn't going to run. I find it sad that so many republicans are practically BEGGING him to enter the race. Sorry, but you guys are stuck with the losers that are in the race now.
Romney 2012 !!!
He's definitely not perfect, but I say run, Governor Christie … the debates will be a lot better — and it will give Chairman MaObama something else to think about for the next year.
Christie is Obama's worst nightmare.
Chris Christie isn't teasing. He's said he's not going to run a thousand times over. It's the desperate republican's and the media that won't stop this silly speculation.
As for Palin. She IS a tease. She has NO intention of entering this race yet she still plays her usual game of " will she or won't she?"
She's not gonna run. Period!
Yeah, I agree, but I still don't want him to enter the race. He's perfect where he is. I'm from NJ, and his departure will just throw that state back into the jaws of the commie left. That won't do the country any good.
Beyond that, we already have a couple candidates that are more roundly Conservative, and that are capable of beating obama. If we can win with EITHER Christie or a more Conservative choice, why choose the less Conservative?
Memo to Gov. Christie:
Before you run for POTUS…how about doing a great job as Governor of New Jersey, so that we can see a track record of how you govern…and so that we can observe your SUBSTANCE, as well as your style.
He is not the answer.
I'm not sure I see how it would help Herman Cain. I support Cain, he's the only candidate that I've actually sent money to. Not because he's my ONLY choice, but because I want him to maintain his momentum. I want him front and center getting tested and vetted. Christie entering the race would just suck all the oxygen out of the room, and quite possibly take Cain out of the headlines. (What few they're giving him)
Exactly. He's PERFECT for NJ. Right down to his personality. But like you say, we need a solid Conservative. We have a couple to choose from, and THEY are capable of winning. Why should we trade a Conservative win, for a ambiguous win?
Romney is a loser
Because the country is going down the tubes of the Wall Street agitators and the Black Panthers! That's why.
I'm thinking that it's the establishment republicans that want him in, just so we don't nominate a REAL Conservative.
Stay out…we don't need another RINO in the race. Go Cain!
The loser is in the White House.
Rinos, rinos everywhere, Christies entry I do not care. I wonder why the establishment republicans are getting all wet over Christie? Hmmm…
It's time to wonder if those who built the nuclear fallout shelters aren't ahead of the game.
If some of the GOP are casting out feelers to see if Christie is the answer to Obama then the nation is already dead.
Is it really any wonder why I'm pessimistic about the GOP and have given up on them?
They all are! Bingo. But Romney will win the R nom and face off against Obama.
I get the same "vibe" about Romney and Perry, but not as much with Christie. Let him jump in and make his pitch. We are more educated and aware than we have ever been. He's not on my shortlist, but is free to make it on it. No candidate is perfect, nonetheless, right now, there are at least four areas (illegal immigration, assault weapons, anthropogenic global warming, and Obamacare) he needs to clarify before he could be considered. You can't but love his determined yet playful and candid personality.
Hey! You liked Huntsman on "Global Warming?" You liked Perry on Illegal Immigration? You like Obama on Off-Shore Drilling?
YOU'RE GONNA LOVE CHRIS CHRISTIE!
PS, for the record, I'm a big fan of Christie's: for New Jersey.
Conservatives could beat your boifriend barrie with a ham sandwich…
All these progressive nitwits in and out of the Government are just whistling past the graveyard…
In little over a year, all this fundimental transformation trash will be removed from the curb…
You are witnessing the greatest conservative ascendancy in my lifetime…
Thank You Comrade Obama
BINGO
I hope he stays out. Keep that promise you made to New Jersey and run in 2016, Governor.
Meanwhile, has anyone else noticed the new war that's erupted over which state gets to be the first to hold its Primary / Caucus?
That the states are now fighting tooth and nail over which gets to be the first to hold its primary should reasonably establish how important this position is in determining the relative ranking of the candidates at the beginning of the official campaign season. Do you think it's about time that individual states stopped being able to determine the initial ranking positions of candidates? Do you think it's about time we ended open primaries?
Tater…Rush is talking about this as we write. He said he read it on Brietbart. Yay Andrew.
"……UNBEATABLE Christie/Cain !!!!….."
YES,..YES,…YES and,…….
Christie's obesity disables him and,…..
Cain takes over two months into the term.
Hmm….do you guys want someone who is against the 2nd Amendment? That would be Christie, who I like but…..
Beware of media endorsed candidates ladies and gentlemen….do not forget who the medias support….we've been down this road more than once…..
Keep your eyes on the prize…..the presidency along with the House and Senate…..
Taking Marine 1 to watch high school baseball games would be sweet!
It is absolutely well past time to end open primaries. With the system as it is, most states allow them. This has the effect of letting voters who have no intent to vote for a GOP candidate in the general election be given a Republican party primary ballot (the reverse is also true, of course–but for the 2012 cycle, it appears that BHO faces no primary challenge, so as a practical matter, we have the situation I describe here this time around).
IOW, Dems can go and vote in "our" primaries, exercise disproportionate influence over our nominating process (e.g., voting for the candidate whom they believe is least likely to beat BHO), and then just turn around and vote Dem in the general.
I live in the People's Republic of New York, which has many problems in the governmental and political arenas. In this one specific area though, we get it right: You enroll in a political party (you do not "register", as so many phrase it) when you register to vote–but you must have been enrolled in a given party SIXTY days before the prior year's general election in order to vote in the primary in the current year. You want to have a voice in the GOP nominating process? Fine, go ahead–but you have to be on file as an "R" for quite a bit of time in order to do so. No same day registration, no "well, I'll just take a Republican ballot–no point in rubber-stamping Obama" type shenanigans.
If the RNC could somehow influence the state party organizations to institute this one reform, we would immediately be greeted with much more acceptable candidates (and not only for POTUS–this would effect gubernatorial and Congressional candidates as well–especially Senators).
Someone like Christie (or McCain, or Giuliani, etc) would have a rougher go of it in red states, for sure. We'd go a long way toward offering "a choice, not an echo".
chris christy = what you get when you combine "The Grass is Always Greener" with "Ignorance is Bliss".
If christy runs, he'll go down in flames faster than "I coddle ILLEGALS" perry once conservatives and other responsible Americans understand his position on key issues.
Christy positions: PRO-AMNESTY FOR ILLEGALS, PRO-ABORTION, PRO-MAN-MADE GLOBULL WARMING HOAX, PRO-GUN-CONTROL, DOESN'T WORRY ABOUT SHARIA LAW….
No wonder RINO TRAITORS like AMNESTY-JOHN mccain, the lunatic-left d-cRAT socialists and their stooges in the lamestream socialist media want him to be the GOP candidate!!!
What you wrote sounds reasonable enough. You didn't offer an opinion on ending the one-state-leads scenario with primaries, though.
The RNC would need to be heavily pressured by the GOP electorate in each state if a reality like you describe were to become a reality in the several states.
Christie has said numerous times that he doesn't want to run and he is not ready to run…why is the RNC pushing this guy? Because they don't want the Tea Party to have too much say in choosing a candidate. Well RNC, too late. You blew your load with McCain, and we are much wiser 4 years later.
Gov. Christie is looking like a fella who can't make up his mind. Make a FREAKIN' Decision and stick to it Already!!!!
Heard on Rush today that,…….
Many of Christie's big donors,…….
have been summoned to Trenton (NJ),…..
for a Thursday announcement.
PART I –
Don't bother…Bubba…you won't go anywhere from there…except back to where you are!
You want to know why…America…that "I" would never, ever vote for him? Because he foolishly appointed to the NJ court system a Muslim lawyer. A lawyer that represented several of those detained after 9/11.
Islamics always, always swear allegiance to the cult of islam before anything else. Christie likes to say he took an oath to America? Come on…now…Christie…did you hear about the Ft Hood shooter…the young military man who shot up his fellow soldiers on that march into Iraq or the newest young American born Islamic…who also swore an oath and planned to send explosives by small planes into key positions in America?
Even the existing Bilderberg…Obama the Bush…in one of his foolish books about 'himself' declared that when push comes to shove and 'he' had to choose….'he' would choose Islam over any other!
GOVERNOR CHRISTIE APPOINTS ISLAMIC AS A JUDGE…

PART II –
And he declares that Sharia in America is crap…that statement is crap…Christie…and you need to get up to speed on what is truly going on in America!
You will have to have Adobe Reader to read the article at… Civil No. 08-15147 http://www.saneworks.us/uploads/news/applications.... –
And this excellent and thorough piece on Sharia Compliant Finances… http://bigpeace.com/mpolege/2011/09/25/sharia-com....
WAKE UP…AMERICA…THIS IS ANOTHER POSSIBLE CANDIDATE…THAT IS NOT QUALIFIED TO LEAD US OUT OF THIS MESS!
What's the rush? How about being a Governor for one term.
What is with these people?
Romney isn't much, but he's about a million times better than the loser there now.
Egos…big egos…and desperation! The Republican 'fence sitters'….want a candidate they can work with…and he is it!
Conservatives had better do their homework…because anybody that the 'fence sitters' want…is not what we need!
I would love to see Christie as president, but I think for now he should stay as NJ Governor for two reasons. One, he has been doing a great job there, and there is a lot more he can do, and Two, We already have an excellent candidate: Herman Cain. I hope Cain can get a 2 term presidency, and then Christie can take over in 2020.
Poop or get off the pot, why don'cha?
Didn't know I was required to offer an opinion on all topics you addressed..
But I'll bite:
I don't live in NH or IA, but I can see why some people would feel aggrieved in that these two states have a disproportionate influence on the candidate selection process. Nevertheless, I don't know that there is any better solution out there. If different states are given the right to hold their primary/caucus early in any given election cycle, there will be so much political wrangling over that process that it will make gerrymandering look like honest politics.
A set of four or five "regional" primaries on a rotating schedule? Yuck. Puts even more emphasis on the ability to raise money early, guaranteeing that we will never get to see the occasional dark horse without deep pockets be able to catch fire (I don't know if Herman Cain is a good or bad choice yet, or that he will be able to go all the way–but can you imagine the Herman Cain boomlet happening in a regional primary type situation?).
I think the greater problem is the tremendous elongation of the election schedule. Wasn't there a time when the NH primary was held in March, kicking off campaign season? Now the primaries are getting pushed back to an earlier and earlier point each cycle. With a shorter election cycle, might it not be the case that Romney would have been the nominee in '08 (the supposedly more economically savvy candidate, as the financial sector started to swoon)?
As it is now, the candidates of both parties tend to be locked up by April or May–then they sort of fade from the scene until the conventions after Labor Day (nobody pays attention during the summer, after all). Elections are supposed to represent a snapshot in time. Nowadays, we have the first debates well over a year before the general election, which essentially kills the ability of the federal government to accomplish anything, with so much focus on positioning for the election.
On balance, I think the current primary schedule is the least bad structure possible. I would just argue for both parties to exercise some real discipline and impose a shorter campaign calendar, and perhaps tweak the schedule for the post-NH primaries a bit.
Just say no to the RINO.
I see it helping Herman because it dilutes the number of votes that Romney will receive, given their similarities. The fewer votes he receives, the less likely he is to become the nominee and the more likely someone else will, namely Cain.
Sounds complicated.
Several states now are fighting to be the first primary. To me this indicates this coveted position exerts a goodly amount of influence on the campaign as a whole. And when were those primary rules written again?
