THE SPEECH: The BIG Reaction-Updated
by PubliusFor the past several weeks, as the economic situation has deteriorated, the Obama Administration has shouted that they “get it,” they would have a plan, finally. Obama had two years with complete Democrat control of government and didn’t do anything to turn around the economy but now, when he is facing reelection, he would finally reveal the “grand plan” to get America working again. There was a bus tour, a vacation and some disagreement over a specific night. All that is behind us. Tonight we would get the vision.
So, how did that work out? Comments from Breitbart-opolis below the fold.

The sometimes quasi-conciliatory tone in his speech contradicts his and Big Labor’s Labor Day declaration of ‘war’ against GOP ‘barbarians’ and ’sons of bitches’. Looking to get mommy and daddy (Congress) to open up its checkbook again will cause some behavioral modification. His presidency is effectively over. But that doesn’t mean the press can’t go full-court press to pretend otherwise as it goes to hyperdrive trying to turn the country’s ire on the Republicans.
Mike Flynn: Tonight we witnessed the end of a Presidency. To say the speech was a rehash of failed ideas is an insult to failed ideas. Even the Democrats seemed bored. I almost set up a side bet on when Joe Biden would fall asleep. As we witnessed last night, the media will squander whatever shred of credibility they have to prop up Obama, but it is now beyond them. The speech was petty, petulant and highly arrogant. Worse, it revealed, for the entire nation to see, that Obama has no clue what to do. A poll-tested line here or a focus-grouped policy there isn’t up to the challenges at hand. The GOP should pick their nominee carefully, because that person WILL be President.

This speech was an unmitigated disaster. To paraphrase “Animal House, ” angry, desperate and patronizing is no way to go through life. Welcome to “Stimulus 2: Electric Fail-a-too.” Furthermore, it’s a shame it took the President nearly three years into his term to figure out taxes and regulations hurt job growth. Who knew! I’m glad that after frittering away 30 months on boondoggles like ObamaCare and all those vacations, that he’s finally got some energy towards, you know, the economy — but no one trusts this president anymore. He’s feckless, incompetent and adrift. This is a man who got everything he wanted passed for full two years and in turn put us in this position. More of the same is not the answer, nor is talking down to everyone when the pile of rubble you’re hollering from is your own doing.

He called a joint session of congress to rehash his Stimulus 2009 speech. The admin proposed to seize capital from job creators to pay for the reduction of private sector jobs and the increase of public sector jobs. He proposed nothing short of a game of cups. Every job mentioned tonight was a union job. Richard Trumka, who was a guest of honor while earlier 500 of his members took six hostages in Washington, told the President today on TV that he better “go to the mat” for them. Obama did.

“Pass this bill now!” Have you ever noticed that every one of Obama’s “Big Ideas” is presented to Congress with this sense of urgency? ObamaCare, Dodd/Frank, Stimulus, now this. Always urgent, always ram it through. no need for committees, no need for debate, no need for deliberation. Pass it now.
This was not a president acting with urgency, this was a president pretending to act with urgency. He has lost all credibility. He has told us from even before he took office that jobs would be his top priority and yet here we are three years in and he is acting like this has to be passed or else the economy will fall apart. Well, guess what Mr. President? The economy has fallen apart despite you whistling pass the graveyard telling us that things have turned around and we were entering yet another recovery summer.
The desperation and whining that emanated from the podium tonight was the last death rattle of a failed presidency. He is done, no matter how much he emphatically thumps his fist for effect.

Obama’s address was the worst major presidential address I have ever watched.
Substantively, Obama presented a “jobs” proposal that is more socialist than anything that even the most far-left Democrats have recently proposed as a new stimulus.
Also–if Congress must pass this jobs bill right away, why did Obama wait weeks, months, years to propose it?
Rhetorically, Obama’s speech was a shameless and breathless litany of straw men and partisan taunting. Republicans were right not to dignify this event with a rebuttal.
Overall, an insult to the American people. Barack Obama has diminished the presidency tonight.

This is a union bail-out speech, plain and simple. Billions for teacher's unions, state employees' unions construction unions and od course, the SEIU.
Obama claimed the scheme is paid for. How?By shoving it off on the Debt Commission, that's how.
But nobody has accepted that commission's previous recommendations. So nothing has been paid for yet for all the old spending.
I really think a bag of hammers would have given a better speech.
Well, let's see…in the past two days, the cost of this "plan" has increased by 50% – from $300,000,000,000 to $450,000,000,000.
Par for the course, and all anyone needs to know.
Sadly, not everyone has the same opinion on the great and powerful "O". On my ride home from dialysis, the bus driver and antoerh passenger were talking about how great the speech was going to be, how Obama was the only one working for the people, how republicans were just racist (both driver and passenger were black), I just kept my mouth shut. Till I got off the bus, and told them that they are willing to be serfs to the state.
There will always be bootlickers who think Obama is the tops. No matter how much he screws us over. There will always be those who thinks he's "working for the people".

BTW, the Republicans need to change their mantra slightly. Instead of being "focused on creating jobs" they need to be "focused on clearing the way so jobs can be created".

after reading the editorials, i am so glad i did waste my time on this. i apologize to those of you who had to endure this horrible task, of listening to obama drone on. i hope you can get back the time you wasted on listening, yet again, to the president of the united lying to anybody who is listening to him speak.

It amazes me that Trumka basically ordered his union thugs to harm American citizens because they dare participate in the political process. Look how quickly the Union responded to his call to violence in Washington. I find it telling that President Obama invited Trumka and that he isn't bothered by Trumka's rhetoric of violence. So much for the civilized conduct meme. I fear that the violence will escalate as we get closer to the 2012 election. Notice too how the MSM gives Obama and Trumka a pass on their relationship as well as Obama's dismissal of Trumka's violent speech. I bet if a Senator or Congressman had invited Sarah Palin or some other controversial person, the media would be relentless in covering the story.

2. I guess we were notified either right before or right after Obama's speech that there are 3 terror suspects in the U.S. and they could very well be here to carry out a terrorist attack on or around 9/11.
So are you here to defend the particular points of Obama's "plan," or just here to make stupid comments like usual? Don't bother answering… I already know the answer. Don't know about anybody else's plan, but my plan would be to completely stop taxing everybody that works and takes care of themselves and their families. Whether you are just getting by, or have enough pocket change to buy your own island, you pay no taxes.
If you are a freeloading mouch, always with your hand out, then you should be taxed to the hilt. If you can't pay, then off to a work detail for you. Ten hours days 5 days a week until you have a job and start taking care of your own miserable self.
Then you too can become one of the untaxed. Accepting responsibility for yourself and those whose lives are dependent on you.

I noticed from the transcript of the speech that Obama kept repeating that his ideas were ones that Republicans had previously proposed or agreed with. He's setting them up to take the fall.
That is when theh Republicans have got to get the message out:
"Yes, we made some mistakes in the past, just trying to slow the drive over the cliff. But we hear the People now and we are done trying to slow it down. We're slamming on the brakes and turning this bucket of bolts around and putting it in the RIGHT direction. So no, Mr. President, we will not agree to your proposals. They will not work and they are bad for the country."
When I hear something like that, then I will know the GOP is fully awake and ready to put this all back together. If they just give in to the narrative, then we're likely finished as a Republic.
As does the possible terrorist plot. My hackles are up.

In the speech, I heard a common theme-
Spend dollars on construction projects. Get construction workers back to work. (Union).
Spend dollars on rebuilding school infrastructure, Put teachers back to work. (Union).
All he was doing, was pandering for his UNION CONstituency.

There was plenty of clever blackmail included in his speech. I fear the GOP will feel pressure to pander re the unemployment extension and the payroll tax cuts. I think both are a total waste of money…… but they are a 'gift' to the masses. The GOP is afraid of becoming unpopular with the masses and losing 2012 votes. No wonder we are in such a fiscal mess. The politicians keep busy buying votes – with our tax $$. They are afraid not to.
That was good, although I'm not sure that the tagline at the end that says he's "960 days late" shouldn't be more like "960 days and he's still trying the same losing policies." Not as catchy, but a bit more accurate.
