And it may be about to get a whole lot worse for the Obama 2012 campaign. The White House’s worst-case scenario for the economy on Election Day next year has become Wall Street’s baseline scenario. After looking at a string of weak economic reports and Europe’s growing fear of debt meltdown and contagion, JPMorgan – led by Obama pal Jamie Dimon – has just come out with a politically poisonous forecast.
The megabank now thinks the economy won’t grow much faster over the next 12 months than it did during the first half of this year — and that’s assuming Europe doesn’t go all pear shaped. It sees GDP growth at just 1.5 percent this year, 1.3 percent next year with unemployment at … 9.5 percent heading into the final days of the election season. “The risks of recession are clearly elevated,” the bank said. Here’s its reasoning:
Consumer sentiment has tumbled and household wealth has deteriorated. Survey measures of capital spending intentions have moved lower and the housing market shows little sign of lifting. Small businesses, retailers, builders and manufacturers all report a weaker business environment. Global growth has disappointed and foreign growth forecasts have been taken lower. In response we are lowering our projection for growth, particularly in the quarters around the turn of the year.
Team Obama had better permanently shelve any plans of running a “Morning in America”campaign. In fact, if a) the economic forecasts of Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan and Goldman Sachs are accurate, and b) voters behave as they usually do during bad economic times, then c) Barack Obama will be a one-term president. No president in the modern era has been reelected with the unemployment rate higher than 7.4 percent, much less two percentage points higher.
But Obama’s political folks are clever, far more than the guys who ran Jimmy Carter’s horrific 1980 campaign. And maybe the Republicans will nominate a candidate that scares Midwest suburbanites silly. Or perhaps Obama’s plan for “winning the future” will imbue the gloomy American public with a a bit more hope that whatever Republicans offer. Perhaps. But if Obama wins four more years with this economy, it will be almost as historic as his win in 2008.

Don't underestimate the Republicans' noteworthy ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of all-but-certain victory. Much will depend on the national nominees. If the GOP is unwise enough to nominate Romney or Huntsman, the conservative "base" will largely stay home. Obama could win re-election decisively — enough to persuade him that he has an affirmative mandate for his schemes.
No one who suffered through either 1996 or 2008 should doubt that the possibility exists.
Unfortunately it means WE will be facing the worst case scenario.
I don't believe that Obama or the left will give up power this time without violence. Now that they know that circumstances will be too bad for them to convince enough voters to re-elect The Regime, they will resort to the "persuasion of power" to borrow a term from Emperor Hussein's favorite union, SEIU.
Here is how I see 2012 playing out:
1. Obama's campaign will be the dirtiest, the sleaziest of all time. We are going to know everything about the Republican nominee, including stuff they just make up. The media will, of course, do everything they can to help. I think this won't work, and indeed, will cost them votes this time. A President with a double-dip recession, record deficits, and >9% unemployment just simply doesn't have much standing to attack his opponent, especially if it's someone with a track record of doing the opposite (such as governor Perry). As bad as conditions are now, they will be WORSE in 2012. For one thing, the power plants the EPA is shutting down next year will cause utility rates to start "necessarily" skyrocketing.
2. There will be more and more widespread vote fraud than any time in our history. The democrats know they can manufacture A LOT of votes, particularly in urban areas, using the usual methods. The "margin of democrat vote fraud" will be larger this election than any in our history. We HAVE TO BE PREPARED to fight dirty over this and not allow them to steal this election.
3. This is the one I am most afraid of. I hope I am wrong, but I don't think that I am. There will be violence. The left will attempt to suppress Republican voters on election day by rioting. They will blame it on us, of course, and may even stage some false-flag riots to give the news media the pretext to buy their line. The left knows that this election could very well mark the beginning of the end of 60 years of creeping socialism, the end of the union monopoly, and the end of the welfare state. Just the likelyhood that the next President will be able to appoint 1-2 more supreme court justices ALONE will cause them to riot.
Even if they don't riot during the elections they certainly will when Hussein loses.
America is unique in that we have an unbroken 230+ year history of peaceful transitions of power. This string will be broken next year.
In other words Obama has succeeded in his project.

Isn't anyone paying attention to his de-facto amnesty for illegals. He is not going to deport them and just before the election he is going to give them amnesty and create a constitutional crises. How many illegals do we have here? Twenty-five million? How many are going to vote for Obama? Twenty-five million. And the GOP is sitting on the fence because they want the voters too.

We've been hearing for the last 2 and a half years, even from GOP pundits, just how smart this guy is. I'm still waiting to be fooled. Granted, he's sure to come up with some stunning boners for the campaign but he's deflating faster than a hot balloon in the stratosphere.

It could also be his salvation. Imagine 15 or 20 million additional votes from formerly non voters who are no longer afraid to be out in the public. The Electoral College permits "strange things" to happen. Bush beating Gore in 2000 even though Gore had more votes. Bush came close to losing, if he had lost Ohio or been close enough for the Democratics to steal the election.

It is a frightening book. It results in the same as Orwell's 1984 but gets there completely differently. In 1984, oppression is imposed externally by "Big Government". In Brave New World, rather than banning books and "knowledge", we just quit reading them because the incredible amount of often useless, trivial information, meaningless details and plethora of distractions eventually result in our not caring about the loss of autonomy, history, culture and reason. Obama has just issued an executive order giving what amounts to amnesty to illegal aliens. I question executive orders that do a run around the legislative process, whoever is in office.
Who's to say that a Congress full of statists (whether they have an R or a D after their name), wouldn't vote him "emergency powers". And in fact there are already laws on the books giving the President a certain amount of "emergency power". That's how state National Guard get "federalized" to deal with certain situations.
We've ceded a lot of power to the federal government over the years. There are plenty of ways it could happen.

Unfortunately, I agree with most of your outlook. It's impossible to know the specifics, but from the past three years, we have seen enough patterns of leftist behavior to discern a disturbing outline of things to come.
Look at things from the Obama (i.e, the radical) point of view…
The stakes in 2012 are pivotal. The radical left have nearly pushed things past the point of no return. 2012 would seal the deal on efforts for "fundamental transformation" that have been underway for decades.
Per the gospel according to Alinsky, the radical left has NO moral restraints. "Ends justify the means", remember?
Given the critical stakes, multiple looming crises (opportunities), and an utter lack of moral constraints, there is no depth to which the left will not sink to retain power in 2012.
Initially, they tried to play it straight. They tried making an argument. Reality exposed the dishonesty of their arguments, and the Tea Party has driven the point home relentlessly. Americans increasingly agree with TP as evidenced in November 2010. Obama's arguments have only grown more pathetic as the economy continues falling apart in 2011.
Since argument was betrayed by economic realities, the left segued to a blame-game approach. But this ploy has grown ridiculously obvious after three years of repetition.
Leftists will certainly try to cheat their way to victory. It will improve their results, as always, but probably not enough. Opponents are certainly more conscious of attempts at voter fraud, and while ACORN survives, it has been exposed and thus weakened by increased scrutiny.
Where does that leave us? "All of the above" is unlikely to provide needed means to radicals' ends. So they must dig deeper into their bag of dirty tricks; namely, violence. We've already seen large-scale riots erupt in other countries under economic distress. In America, we have so far only had small pockets of random violence. But listen to the rhetoric of Obama supporters as their prospects dwindle. It has grown increasingly provocative and laden with violent metaphors. Tea Party "holding a gun to the head of America", "terrorists", etc. We know there is a receptive audience for this among Obama supporters, between their union goons and the entitlement-addled perceiving a threat to handouts as the country goes bankrupt. So the tinder is already strewn about, and we increasingly see Obama and kind strike a match to it with their choice of rhetoric.
We are definitely in a danger zone for the next year or two.

I believe that the underlying culprit of the present economic downturn, and the S&L debacle, is that government induced the moral hazard by insuring reckless behavior.
There should not have been any government guarantees behind any loan products.
Up here in the Great White North, we didnt' have a housing collapse because our Liberal government in the late 90s refused the chartered banks' requests to merge and become bigger in order to take on more risk "like the American banks."
We don't have a secondary mortgage market; if a bank makes a loan it has to keep it on its own books, it cannot fob it off ten minutes later to a government sponsored enterprise which is guided by political goals.
I dont' know this final point from personal experience, I am admittedly just repeating something I heard on my second favorite radio host's program (Jason Lewis). He says that the US has an unique feature to its financial system in that a borrower can walk away from the house and now it is the bank's problem, I believe he called it a non recourse loan; in his examples of Canada and Australia, if you take out a $200,000 mortgage and you walk away, you still owe the bank the money.
You have probably seen Inside Job. I was prepared to not like it because Matt Damon was narrating and I thought it was going to be an anti Bush screed, but I watched, and I am happy that I did. It covers much the same ground as Reckless Endangerment does, but nonetheless it was even more sickening to actually put faces to those responsible and to see the revolving door that goes between Wall Street and the White House (of both parties).
Big Business is a greater threat to our well being than a laizezz faire (sp?) system, because a true free market doesn't suffer fools gladly. In a free market system, T Boone and Algore would have to prove to the market, to investors, of the quality of their product and consumers would be free to decide whether they want to pay more for the same thing in order to make them feel good.
