Clinic Offers Free Pot for Registering to Vote

A Lansing medical marijuana dispensary is offering medical marijuana patients a choice of a half a gram of medical pot or a marijuana-laced baked good called a “medible” in exchange for registering to vote.
On the dispensary’s website, owner Skekina Pena writes:

All dispensaries are doing a voter registration drive. If you sign up at Your Healthy Choice, we will assist you in filling out the registration form and will mail it out for you. We believe in power in numbers and everyone taking a stand. So in appreciation, we will reward legal patients with a .5 gram free or a free medible! I’m planning an event for the preliminary voting that will have shuttles to the polls! We have to amend our Lansing ordinance! May God bless our efforts!
The webpage then encourages readers to support Lansing City Council candidates Derrick Quinney, A’Lynne Robinson and Harold Leeman. It also encourages readers to vote against City Council candidates Carol Wood and Jody Washington.
But in an interview with Pena Wednesday, she denied she was offering free pot or medibles in exchange for registering to vote.
“If they fill [the voter registration form] out, we are offering a compensation of a discount on their purchases that day,” Pena told Michigan Messenger. “That’s it. To help out those who wasted their gas to come in here.”
The dispensary is located on Michigan Avenue, six blocks from the state Capitol.
A spokesman for the Secretary of State says that while ultimately the decision about whether or a not crime has been committed is up to a local prosecutor, Michigan law does address situations similar to this.

Unfortunately, all of the "patients" got the munchies and ate their ballots.
That seems like a seiu or acorn ploy – register as dim and get high. BTW, her comment does not match with her web site posting. Could that be misrepesentation in advertising. I distinctly saw the word, "free".

If MJ, #13, marijuana is ever decriminalized, there had better be statues already on the books regarding levels of impairment(intoxication). Seems according to some stats, accidents caused while driving under the influence have increased by 6%, and there is not one mechanism in place to dictate level of impairment. There are levels established for drunkenness, but not for smoking or eating dope.

Unfortunately, I can't argue. Had this story happened 30-60 years ago, it would have been FAR bigger than Watergate. Now it's just a nuisance getting in the way of the reality show du jour. America has lost its moral fiber. That signals the beginning of the fall.

You all can thumb me down all you want but I've watched several family members die from cancer and if it weren't for medicinal Cannibus, they would have died long before what they did. Cancer is a horrific thing to deal with and pot makes it better for them. Also, as I'm not a drinker, I have a problem with alcoholics bashing pot smokers. Drunks have a higher risk of dying and killing someone else while drunk. There are zero statistics about pot killing anyone whether it be by car accidents or anything else. Put it this way, God made pot, man made booze, WHO do you trust? You take ten people from different walks of life, put them in a room with a half gallon of whiskey. Within an hour you'll hear fighting as the alcohol removes all inhibitions. You put the same ten people in a room with an ounce of pot and an hour later, you'll have pizza delivered and every person in the room will be happy. Look at this with an open mind. After smoking their medicine most of the stoners will forget on which day they are supposed to vote. If they make it to the polling place they won't be able to remembe all the names listed on the web page. So Pena's efforts probably won't change the results of the election.

There shouldn't even BE registration to vote to start with. There should only be proof of ID (Citizen and district where you reside) when you go vote.
I despise the entire premise of required "permission slips" for the exercise of what are RIGHTS. That they are rights means each INDIVIDUAL controls the decision and cannot BE required to gain "permission" from government.

Impairment is not the issue in need of serious addressing. The personal responsibility for damage done, lifelong damage done, has to be assigned instead of allowed to be wiped away as if it never happened. Please understand, the kid you maimed me lives his life today as if he never hit me. He never paid me a cent but boy howdy he sure paid government. Imagine that.

You are on the right track, but it isn't the "impairment" it is what they do. Remember, guns don;t kill people. People kill people. The same is true with booze and pot to. Drinking and smoking by themselves doesn't kill another, actions taken by people who mix those things with other things do. It is not the "level of impairment's" fault. it is the person's fault "impaired" or not.

Unfortunately, the NRA is one of the largest and most well disguised gun control groups in the country. Folks get upset sometimes being shown this, but true it is. Read the legislative history of that which the NRA has supported, and that which it has opposed ( LIKE THE HELLER VS D.C. action AND Privileges or Immunities incorporation in MCDONALD VS CHICAGO).
